I have Bi-Poler

  • Ok I have Bi-Poler and I'm depressed. I'm on Citalopram (Celexa) and I've been on it for a month. I dont have a doctor (mom is trying to find me one). I dont know what to do. I think I'll call the place where I get my Citalopram (Celexa) from and talk to them. I'm stressed out because my coach is moving away and I'm in the process of trying to a new agency to go to.
  • Hi Tiffany,

I'm Amy. I have Bipolar also and it has been extremely challenging at times for me to manage it but here's what has helped me:

    1) Take whatever meds that your practitioner feels that you need. Don't hesitate to get a second or third opinion if you don't feel comfy with this doc.

    2) Have a good support system of your doc/np, therapist, friends and family who will support you when you need someone to talk to, even "warmlines" or hotlines are helpful to talk to someone when you're really struggling. NAMI and Depression and Bipolar Alliance have support groups in many areas.

    3) For me, occupying my time with volunteer work and spending time with my pet guinea pig are really helpful. Whatever works for you, if it is getting a pet or going to the pool, make good use of your time. Idle time is the Devil's workshop! If you have time, consider volunteering, there are SO many ways to reach out and help others and they will be ever so grateful, it is rewarding.

    4) Recognize when you are gravely depressed or manic and get help by calling someone on your treatment team if you don't feel safe. Take care of YOU!

I hope that this helps you. I am in Bucks County PA, where in PA are you?

    Hugs!

    Amy
