Default What a Dal

This makes really good dal. However, and this is a big however, I needed to add at least another cup of water after 5 hours. It was sticking pretty badly. Not sure if that was my crockpot or the recipe. I will definitely make this again but will start with 4-5 cups of water. If anyone tries this I'd love to hear how it works for you. I'd suggest making it when you are at home the first time.

from Fresh From the Vegetarian Slow Cooker

2 T olive oil
1 large onion
2 garlic cloves
1 t peeled, minced ginger
1 t ground coriander
1 t ground cumin
1 t turmeric
1/2 t ground cardamom
1/2 t dry mustard
1/4 t cayenne
1/4 t allspice
1.5 c dried brown lentils
1.5 c kidney beans, drained and rinsed
3 c water

1. Pour oil in slow cooker and set on High
2. Puree onion, garlic & ginger and add to cooker. Cover and cook to remove the raw taste. Add spices, cook & stir for 30 seconds
3. Turn to Low. Add lentils, kidney beans, & water. Cover and cook for 8 hours. Adjust seasoning before serving.
