We have what's called a 'raclette', essentially, a 14" x 14" piece of granite, 1/2" thick, heated by an element underneath, on which you can cook meat and veggies at the table. There are also little trays that you can place under the element to gratinee items if you wish. It's sort of like a fondue experience.
Anyway, we want to try making our own pizza dough/crusts and I just read about pizza stones. This piece of granite is smooth and has been seasoned by multiple uses. It must be pre-heated before use, and this can be done by placing it in a cold oven and pre-heating it, like a pizza stone.
I have never used a pizza stone before, but am wondering if this piece of granite would work as one? Any thoughts, anyone?
