Default Arrowroot as soup thickeners?

I've always used corn starch to thicken chicken soup but I do use a lot and it IS pretty high in empty calories. I've heard a lot about arrowroot and I was wondering if anyone has used it to thicken soups. Does it affect the taste in any way? Do you recommend using arrowroot?
