You aren't doing awful! It's not a race and where you are in the weight loss also plays a role.
In the beginning, weight comes off easier. First there is the water weight thing and also there is the big loser high. It's easy to stick with a program.
As the months tick by, it gets harder to stick to eating less than you are burning AND, the body adapts, so weight loss slows down. And, of course, the lighter you are, the lower your BMR (takes less energy to sustain your weight) so you can create less and less of a deficit.
So, in the beginning months, I expect 10 pounds a month (as I'm nearly 100 pounds overweight). Probably starting next month I will shoot for 8 pounds, and then as I get closer to goal, 5 pounds. Heck, towards goal 3 pounds is a good month!
ETA: and big losses are from big changes (and still usually just the start of weight loss only). There is no need to make HUGE changes either. Everything is about making changes that are sustainable.
