This race started with a pretty steep down hill to the trail, then we ran out the trail to mile 7 and turned around and finished where we got onto the trail.
Last night I set out all of my clothes and put the timing chip on my shoe.
I woke up and ate some oatmeal with cinnamon and ½ a banana and drank a cup of coffee. Then I took a shower…I usually do not shower before running but because there were going
to be so many people, I figured it would be the kind thing to do.
My neighbor drove so on the way to the race I ate some yogurt. When we got there, we were a bit cold, but knew we would be warm enough in a little while. We walked around and
stretched until it was time to line up. The prerace packet mentioned lining up with others that ran the race at the same pace as you, so while I waited for someone to organize that I
talked with a few friends. We were all surprised when the horn blew.
I ended up at the back of the pack, and it was amazing to watch all of the runners going down hill toward the trail. Once I made it onto the trail, I was going to speed up a bit, but the
runkeeper lady was telling me I was going faster than I usually start out at. The entire first half of the race had a 1%-2% incline. So my goal was to see if I could keep my average
pace under a 14 minute mile. I stayed right around 13m45sec per mile average until the turn around at mile 7 then I wanted to be less than 13min42sec per mile average which I was
figuring would have me finishing right under 3 hours.
My average pace came down to 13min32, and I felt good and enjoyed the race all the way until the 11 mile marker. The last few miles I endured, and kept pushing forward.
I was DETERMINED to finish in less than 3 hours. The last time the runkeeper lady talked to me she said my pace was 13min36sec. The pic my husband snapped of me shows the
timer as 3hr1m11sec. I was so bummed. Then my neighbor told me that her chip time showed her being over 1 min faster than the timer…so I am hoping when they post the results
it will show me as under 3hrs.
This afternoon we decided to go to an air show. Instead of spending an hour waiting for the shuttle bus, we walked over. So today’s intentional mileage was 16.5 miles.
I have reached a personal record of over 34200 steps in one day, 5hrs and 15 min of moderate to vigorous activity and over 4000 cals burned in one day.
