I am going to try for 2 miles tonight. If the kids will let me. It's Friday so the kids are home and full of energy and take over the Den in one big swoop and suddenly the treadmill no longer exists. -sigh-

Wow - I'm listening to the newest Jillian Michaels podcast and thought of this place. She's talking to a woman who lost her best friend a few years ago. Her friend died of a heart attack and these two women would drink, party, smoke, eat terrible food together. The woman on the phone is feeling guilty and regretful that she didn't do more to help her friend. But here's the kicker - she still smokes, she still hasn't made a full on commitment to living a healthier lifestyle and she's still making excuses for why she hasn't done those things. You can guess how Jillian responded..... I thought it was a great lesson on our attitudes and why it's never good enough to "try". Take a listen here. It's the newest podcast (Never Fear Protein) and the call comes up after the discussion of protein (which I also found incredibly informative) and CPR.

TWO great posters this morning! Is this a cool place or what? Thanks Rainbow and Cheshire!
I got my walkies in and have already downed a liter of water (water is one of my many problem children). I have printed out Jeanettey's Mid-Week Exploration of Masochism --- I guess I am going to try this. Eeeeep. I need to make some firm food plans for the weekend and get groceries, but I am finding out that I LIKE planning! Whodda thunk!
And we have a surprise guest today! Given how hard Sarge works, I figured she deserved a treat, so since she has always nursed a secret crush for this man, I managed to persuade her Special Someone to join us here today.....
Sarge Did you giggle? You know its worth honor points to us if we make you crack up, right?
Happy Friday, everyone --- go BIG or go BOOM!

Rainbow - That poster should go on the first posting of every thread! Love it
I read something interesting about whether warming up is necessary or not:
http://lifehacker.com/5832408/warmin...t-not-the-body
What do you think guys?
I am ok with a brisk walk before running but I really am not too happy about warming up before doing weights etc. I am never really sure what how to warm up. What do you do before weights to warm up and how long?

josey - Before running I warm up with front-back and side to side leg swings plus some walking every time. Before strength training I'll usually do something simple like arm swings, marching in place, or even just walking. Something just to get the blood flowing and loosen up.

Can we dub Fridays FUNNY FRIDAY?? I think the internet universe is trying to tell us something via the always hilarious comic XKCD. Be sure to hover your mouse over the comic for the extra joke.

Cheshire: love the poster this AM.
Jeanetty: For me I try and focus on my running and cardio. Sorry I haven’t done a challenge yet. In the next 2 week s I am making a goal to at least do one!
Rainbow: Love the poster!
I am pretty proud of myself. This last week I truly have worked out harder than I have in months. I hope it shows on the scale. THis morning I wasnt doing a C25k workout and am not around the gym so I had to make a subsitute. I took my c25k intervals and did sprints, backwards jogging, grapevines, and high knees for a minute each with 90 sec walking in between. I did it twice around the neighborhood wth a warm up and cool down. I KNOW i looked like an idiot, but hey! I was melting the BUTT-er, right?
Happy Friday!

Oh dear God, make it stop.
Crunch:
20 reps
20 reps
20 reps
Bicycle Thingie:
11 reps
Superman:
17 seconds (and I'm not sure I was doing it right at that)
Plank:
15 seconds
19 seconds
12 seconds
Side Plank:
0 seconds Yeah, you read it right. ZERO! I can't even figure out how you get into this one: start from a standard plank and roll? jedi powers? a crane?
normal Lunges:
3 lb x 10 reps
Keep these suckers coming, Jeanettey! I obviously need them. And they made my hubby laugh and laugh!

josey: If I kick off a walk at a (for me) high speed, like 3.5, I will often get charlie horses in my calves. If I walk sedately (2.7-2.9) for just a couple of minutes first, I don't. It might depend on the person. Thanks for the link!
rainbow: Booyah right back atchya!
MadamB: WOOT! WOOT! Another hardcore (pardon the expression) soldier taking those deadly pounds to the mat and WINNING! Sarge may be stronger in this challenge, but you look pretty dang awesome to me!
Peanutt: ROFL ---- I really, really have to check out this fitocracy thing. Although if it doesn't have something as basic as trapeeze sex, well, let's just say I probably won't be able to track most of my day's activities. Thanks for the link!
Iamerican: Way to ROCK IT, baby! The universe threw some obstacles in your way and you just picked them up, used them as free weights and threw them back! The neighbors are going to be keeping an eye on you, because you are starting to get dangerous.
How is your Friday progressing?

Sarge and platoon members,
I am dissapointed that less and less platoon members are interested in doing the weekly challenge. I'm wondering if you are you too pressed for time to get to it during the week? I'm wondering if I should go back to weekend challenges or if the platoon just isn't interested any more.
I would really appreciate some feedback. Thank you!

I thought we needed to do it every day since you posted it and then post on Friday.... So, Wednesday, Thursday and just now (Friday) I did:
Supermans: 10 sets of 20 seconds each
Crunches (any sort) - 10 sets of 30 each (Thank the ds-to-be hubby of mine for this. I wanted to do sets of 15 each.)
Planks - (Hubby assisted me by holding a towel under my belly to help support me... still healing from that damn C!) 5 sets of 20 seconds each
Side planks - 0. I tried, oh how I tried, but my core muscles are not supporting me there yet. Then again, 2 months ago I couldn't get my feet off the ground to do leg lifts, so there's been major improvement.
Rotating core lunges: 10 sets of 30 each, 15 on right side, 15 on left side alternating.
Excuse me while I roll over and die.

Skinny -- You are well on your way to melting Sarge's heart, if he had one! Your posts, right down to the reason you edited your last one are absolutely hysterical. I'm still thinking you might be my fitocracy nemesis so nice try on trying to disguise yourself. Jedi power, a crane for planks...
Peanutt -- FUNNY FRIDAYS sounds perfect for us! If we could include you tube videos of us trying to perform some of Jeanettey's challenges, even better!
Gooey -- Nice job on that challenge, but I'm left with this vision of you hunched over Quasimoto-style to the left because of the differences in your side plank times.
Iamerican--looking like an idiot when working out out is one of the best ways to determine whether you're a good fit for this platoon!
Love having Rainbow back in da house!
PacSun--OMG, a towel harness held by hubby! WE ARE ALL INSANE! This thread is just too funny today! And correct me if I'm wrong, your hubby is the one who wants to be a drill instructor, right?!?!?
Back to the gym...gotta leave Hardcore a little fitocracy sumpin-sumpin for the weekend.
