WoooooHoooo!!! 100%

KittyKat - I am close to catching you!

Dzach - Have fun on your trip!

Chickadee - I was just looking at that yesterday, the funny thing is that I got serious about losing again on May 29 and started posting on Sarge's thread then. Out of the first 4 weeks I only made goal 2 out of 4 times. The 2 times I did not make goal, 1 time I was up .4 and the other I had not lost any at all. Since Anon made the tracking sheet, I have had steady losses on Sundays. All though some times I bounce up a bit during the week...like today!

Reso - I hope the week gets better for you.

pokey: I had been thinking about what you've been going through, and as I was playing with my BMR calculator this morning I put your stats in as well. At your current level of activity you're likely burning 3000+ calories per day - which means that if you're eating at/around 1200, you're creating something close to (or exceeding) a 2000 calorie deficit every day. Your body (anyone's body) just can't handle that kind of output without more fuel over many weeks, and your body is going to work to hang on to every calorie because it feels it needs it - and it does. I know that eating more has been discussed many times here before, and I know that as a result of those discussions you upped your calories to 1600 for at least a time, but even that calorie intake seems too low for your level of activity.

I am always hesitant when people tell me to eat more to lose weight, because I think my intake (1200-1500 cal/day) is very appropriate for what I'm doing. I eat lower calorie because even at my most active (pre-surgery) my exercise was at a moderate level, and that combined with my intake gives me an average deficit of around 1200 cals daily. This has resulted in losses without any stalls or plateaus, just the regular week-to-week fluctuations that are expected with weight loss. With the exception of the time around my surgery, I have never had a week without a loss in the 7 months I've been at this. If I were to increase my exercise to more intense levels (if I were to take up running, say), I would absolutely need to increase my calorie intake to make sure that I was properly fueling my body for that added activity.

I certainly don't wish to suggest that what works for me will work for everyone, but I do truly feel that you need to either eat more (1800 calories/day at least) if you plan to keep up your current level of activity, or you need to exercise less intensely. I honestly worry that you will do long-term harm to your body/metabolism if you do not.

I hope my post doesn't come off sounding harsh, as it's not meant to at all. I just want to see you succeed and be happy and healthy.

Morning Platoon,

Just got back from the gym. Ran a quick 2.5 miles Haha I love saying that like it's not a big deal, and the fact that it's really not that big of a deal to me anymore. 2 weeks ago it was a HUGE deal. Now I'm ready for more miles, longer distances, faster runs! Woo!

Josey -- Sweet on doing bridge to 10k. I keep thinking about it, but there have been a few days I decided to just keep running and have gone 4.5 miles and 55 minutes of running. I'm pretty sure that if my treadmill didn't tell me to cool down once I hit an hour of running, I could go 70 minutes without too much trouble, so I think I am just going to ask the people at the gym about disabling that function and just run it. I am kind of enjoying just pushing myself now and not being on a running plan, but I may be joining you in a couple of weeks if I find my running stagnates. Keep me updated, though, as that is seriously awesome. (Also, cross your fingers for me this week, I'm meeting a breeder about possibly getting on her waiting list for a puppy, and so I really need her to like me.)

Chickadee -- Thank you for offering to help with the spreadsheet; that will be hugely helpful for me! I'm glad you are actually looking at some of the statistics. I think that as we continue to populate it with more and more data, it will start looking really cool, and I am hoping people will be able to look back at a week and see how much they exercised versus how much weight they lost, and hopefully see trends.

Envelope -- I had to go check yours out, and you really have been kicking BUTT-er since we've had the spreadsheet. Wow. No wonder you need a rolling pin to roll out your muscles! :P Haha, I am buying one of those this afternoon, though, because that really seems like an AWESOME idea.

Reso -- Ok great! Haha I just always wanted your data in there because of the sheer amount of miles you put in. WHOAH! I checked last night, though, and you only need to put in how much trek under each day, and it will automatically sum the days to give your total for the week.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

KittyKat - 4lbs in 1 week would be a 2000 cal a day deficit. Over the last 50 days I averaged 1425 a day deficit. Sure the scale showed a 5lb loss last week for me, but the scale had owed me a few lbs. The most I could realistically expect to lose this week is 3. I will be happy with the 1.5 I pledged though.

Good Morning Troops

I got up this AM, checked the thread and low and behold; there was Cheshire's poster . . . made me soooooo happy . . . always motivates me more . . . (I don't know why, it just does. I so look forward her early AM post) All is right with the world!!

Cheshire: I know you're probably not thrilled school has returned, but I am!! Glad you like your door

CONGRATULATIONS

K3
PEANUTT
CELRAE

That is totally awesome . . .

Reso: Glad you showed your handsome face, I was worrying about you . . . Have you hit that 1 year mark for walking EVERY DAY???

Envelope: LOVE THE WHOLE ROLLING PIN THING. I figured that is what you were using it for . . . I may start using my rolling pin on my legs

SARGE: Phew is right. I wasn't sure if we'd make it or not. Now on to a new week

Looks like everything is going pretty well for everyone.

OK, I think I like this whole interval training. Biked today, 5 min warm up and then 1 min (excuse the expression) balls to the wall pedaling, then 1 min easy peasy pedaling (I did that for 10 cycles) then 5 min cool down . . .

P.S. I can't remember whose child(ren) have peanut allergies, but THANK YOU. I found sunbutter and am so excited to introduce to 3 year old neighbor's little girl . . .

NOW TROOPS GET OUT THERE AND MELT THAT BUTT-ER . . . Jeanettey's challenge coming up in two days . . . soooo excited!!

I will definitely keep posting about my running here and/or fitocracy. It's great that you can run that much longer now!! I thought about trying that too but I really like the workouts with the walking bits in there. And I love completing workouts on that app. Kind of like fitocracy. I added JM's 30DS and it is killing me today! OUCH! Still plan on doing it tonight and weights too though. I need more fitocracy points. Somehow I didn't catch on until recently but no I am all about points, points, points. Oh my supermans! I will add those too since I need a strong lower back.

Ohhh a puppy! I'll keep my fingers crossed! Let me know how it goes!

Hey everyone! Making a fun change today... I'll post later this afternoon. I said I was going to do it when I hit 50 pounds lost, but at 46.8 pounds and losing at a snail's pace, I feel like now is the perfect time to do it!

Talk to you later! (Oh and my surprise includes a 3-mile walk as part of it, so can't really beat that, right?!)

Chick - Thanks for the advice. Not harsh at all I'm desperately trying to figure out the calories in/calories out thing. I ordered a Body Bugg last night on the recommendation of my trainer. He says he thinks they're pretty accurate, so it'll be nice to get a (hopefully) accurate picture of exactly what I'm doing to myself. They seem to get really good reviews on all of the consumer websites as well. I would be so happy to get a consistent loss every week - even a pound would be something I would be over the moon about. I'm happy to hear you're feeling better, btw. Sounds like you'll be back up to speed in no time!

MadamB - Ohhhhhhh intervals. I do some days of HIIT at the boxing gym, and then 2 days a week, I run intervals. Haaaaaaaaate them.

Reso - Happy to see you're back. Being in a funk is no fun. I still feel a little "off" but am trying my best to see the positives. They're definitely there - and you have lots to be proud of!!!

I had boxing and running this morning, and am trying a new food tracking system (thanks MadamB!! ) so starting the new week off with a bang! I hope everyone has a great Monday.

I've done 6lbs in a week but at the moment 4 is kinda reaching. I would be happy with 2-3 just together me outta the 230's.

For those new to our Platoon Trek, we left base camp on 5/15/2011...

Leg 1: Trek Across America via American Discovery Trail: 5,048 miles
(Here's the link so you can think about how far each of you has trekked individually: http://walking.about.com/cs/beginner...walkingadt.htm
This leg completed on 8/1/2011 by 32 members contributing miles.

Leg 2: We left the Golden Gate Bridge headed to Osaka, Japan on 8/7/2011. Last week 20 platoon members logged in an amazing 543.69 miles on the platoon spreadsheet:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spre...IOe6aQF#gid=71

If you're name isn't listed here and you want to participate please let us know to add you to the spreadsheet, or please start using it:
Anon, Celrae, Chesh, Chick, DZak, Envelope, Iamerica, Joyful, Josey, K3, Kuri, MadamB, Maile, PacSun, Peanutt, Pokey, Reso, Rmc, Sarati, Sarge

Here's the current course:
Golden Gate Bridge across Pacific Ocean to Osaka, Japan (5372.218 miles)
Oasaka to Great Wall of China (1565.896)
Great Wall to Great Pyramids in Egypt (4298.751)
Pyramids to The Coloseum in Italy (1323.483)
Italy to Barcelona, Spain (1323.483)
Barcelona across the Atlantic back to Delaware, our starting point in Trek America (3966.18) for a grand total = 24,625 miles.

WORK HARD TO ADD UP THOSE MILES TROOPS! WE DON'T WANT TO BE IN THE WATER ANY LONGER THAN NECESSARY!
Here's our platoon Apache hovering at the Golden Gate Bridge

Question for all you experts in here. I am adding in jillian michaels 30ds and want to add biking into my exercise routing (plan on going out for a ride now) My calorie rang is 1200-1500 I notice though that if I go to 1500 for too many days I actually maintain my weight instead of lose. I know with adding this exercise in I need to up my calories My problem is i am looking at all the calorie counters and my head is spinning (i've never been good at math) I am thinking I should up it to about 1300-1400 What do you all think? more? Less?

Sarge : I will be joining you all in that trek around the world I will add my miles to the spreadsheet everyday myself. Tho I plan on averaging about 10-14 miles a week.

Dreamer -- Every body reacts differently. The best thing you can do for yourself is keep a meticulous log of your food and activity...that way you can watch which weeks worked for you and which ones didn't. Seriously, wouldn't you like to look back at some of those big number weeks you had to see what you ate and what you did that week?

Riestrella -- I was hoping you'd start logging your running on our spreadsheet. Watch out for that shark!

Pokey -- So glad to have you & Gooey hanging with Sarge!!!! United in juke jokes!

PacSun -- YAY 3mile walk...that much closer to Japan for us!

Josey, Envelope, KittyKat, Jeanettey and all you other side challengers....Sarge absolutely loves that you have found one another and push each other to achieve the marvelous numbers we've put up on the boards lately. Seriously, from week to week, this thread has dropped some extreme poundage! It is absolutely mind-boggling to me that a basic JUST DO THE FREAKING WORK attitude exists and actually works in a virtual community like this.

Sometimes Sarge doesn't say very much, but he does read every single post and notices all the subtle wit that goes into some of the comments. My favorite from all the weigh-in posts this last go around came from Spanky on her -0- lost report. And I quote,

Whiskey
Tango
Foxtrot

Have a great evening all...time to go open the mess tent.

Anon - a puppy!!!! I am sure the groomer will love you.

Sarge - Don't go making my eyes bleed.

Sms and Reistrella - Glad you are joining us on the Trek around the World or it could be called the Tango around Whiskey Foxtrot. Somehow I think changing the name around was much funnier in my own head. Spankys post about Whiskey Tango Foxtrot was hillarious...something I could picture a few teachers I know saying.

PacSun - looking foward to hearing about your day!
