Default Planned Bingeing?

Are there others out there who are diagnosed bingers like me? Not just the kind where you over eat and snack too much? Do you have symptoms like these?

- you lie about your food
- you hide food
- you plan your binges days in advance
- you get angry if you are prohibited from bingeing
- you go out of your way to get the food you want, cost is irrelevant
- you eat secretely, always alone
- you have tremendous feelings of guilt

I have suffered for years and finally went to therapy about 6 months ago. I'm finally seeing that my eating disorder had causes and it turns out I'm not a bad person after all. If anyone has issues to talk about there are others like me here to talk to.

Oh, honey you were never a bad person!

I'm not diagnosed, but that doesn't mean I didn't blow wads of money on junk, pre-plan exactly what I could get to make sure I had enough of various kinds of crap and of course, I started sneaking food when my other half noticed how out of hand I was.

It was the worst when he would go to work and I would be off for the day -- hit the drive thru and supermarket and then I started throwing out the garbage before he got home so he couldn't see what I'd eaten. It was just nuts!

But it is a struggle and I'm happy you're finding a way to deal with it and help yourself get it under control. Hang in and just keep trodding along. We'll have to face food our whole lives, so I think it will get easier, but I'd be surprised if it totally went away.

I am glad you are here and that you have found a therapist. By no means are you alone in your struggles.

I can say a BIG yes to every one of your descriptors, I've done all of that and more. You are most definitely not alone! It is controllable, I'm glad you are getting help!

Absolutely. The hiding of the food, the eating, and the trash afterwards. And the fear of getting caught with the evidence. The planning out massive amounts of food to eat in one sitting, drive thru after drive thru. Everyone I know says, "I never see you eat, I can't imagine why you're heavy". Jeez, if they only knew what I was capable of eating...

Therapy has helped me tremendously too.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt and the diagnoses (EDNOS). But it doesn't define me or the choices I make today. Having an ED in your 40's is so boring, look at how much time I have wasted on this thing!

Good luck on your journey

I'm sure there is a way to stop. It looks like I'm stopping now, thanks to therapy. Do not be afraid to ask for help, this felt like something I needed to do on my own but since then I've realized that therapy is invaluable.

Exclamation re:

i have done this in the past...yes it makes you wayyy guilty...

I read a book about the carbohydrate addict's diet...and it explained alot.

I found out I was being set up by hormones in my body for bingeing...I strongly recommend the book.

Also....I have found that the only way to stop my bingeing patter is fasting! For some reason fasting sets my body correct again ( I have read that it resensitizes you to insulin) and I want healthy food and don't want to eat all the time after a fast.

I know the pain and heartache you feel about this, because I went through it!
