Induction confusion

Ok, I started the Induction on Monday. But I wasnt aware that you counted cheese. I was wondering if someone could give me some hints on how to do this easier. I am signed up at Atkins.com and I dont have the book, but this whole thing has me so confusd, and I am worried that I am not doing it right. Any insight would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey NavyWife,

I started Induction on February 9. I don't think I would have even known where to start if I didn't have the book. Couldn't you run out and get it? Walmart usually has it for less then $10.

But at atkins.com they have the Rules of Induction under "How to do Atkins" that you can read and print out and it should clarify a lot of things. or just click on this and it should bring you there....

http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-325810.html

It gives you the list of acceptable foods for induction, but even tho a food is on the acceptable list you have to count the carbs in that item towards your 20 grams a day allowance.

About cheese, it says that "You can consume three to four ounces daily of the following full-fat, firm, soft and semisoft aged cheeses*, including: cheddar, cow, sheep and goat cheese cream cheese, Gouda, mozzarella, Roquefort and other blue cheeses Swiss. *All cheeses have some carbohydrate content. The quantity you eat should be governed by that knowledge. The rule of thumb is to count 1 ounce of cheese as equivalent to 1 gram of carbohydrate. Note that cottage cheese, farmer’s cheese and other fresh cheeses are not permitted during Induction. No "diet" cheese, cheese spreads or whey cheeses are permitted. Individuals with known yeast symptoms, dairy allergy or cheese intolerance must avoid cheese. Imitation cheese products are not allowed, except for soy or rice cheese—but check the carbohydrate content."

So count the carbs in your cheese and allowable veggies towards your 20 grams a day allowance.

Hope this helps!

You know, with the FAQ thread we should add a "carb count" thread. That way we could put cheats in there for like the cheese. Or chocolate whipped stuff  and other things that we'll all run into and wonder what the carb count is.

go to aktins.com and read their "how to do atkins" section from start to finish. Ignore their ads for low carb junk food...no you shouldn't buy low carb brownie--focus! lol The info is there, just stay away from the ads and such.

I have a book that really comes in handy. It's by Corinne T. Netzer and the title is The Complete Book of Food Counts. It give you the calories, carbs, protein, sodium, fat and fiber in foods and is over 700 pages long. It really is a handy tool.

Sometimes I don't have extra money to buy a book so I go to the library and check them out. This is also a good idea for CD's that way you get to test drive them for free before you invest!! WINK WINK ;)
