Default Wednesday Chat - January 21, 2004

Good morning to all!

I was so busy yesterday, I didn't have time to post. There was also an ugly incident at work when a group of ladies pulled a sort of "intervention," sitting me down to tell me how horrible the Atkins diet was and how I was going to do some permanent harm to my body by staying on it. The hilarious thing was that one of them was munching on M&M's and another on Pringles while they were updating me on the perils of the low-carb diet!!! But knowledge is power, and I was able to hold my own and I even thing I made a convert out of one of them!

All is well here in the southwest, and I hope everyone out there has a fabulous day!

Spedmom that's hilarious! I can see it now, "you're gonna kill yourself with all that high fat food"...where's my bowl of trans fat hmmmm tastes sooo good. Some people just don't realize how contradictory they can be. My friend who had weight loss surgery gave me the same lecture, "you really shouldn't do such a dangerous thing to lose weight hun," need I say more? And she has to eat low carb too!

And the car update, lower intact manifold crack, heater core rupture and they haven't even found why my ABS light keeps coming on. But I have a new favorite word today warranty, all covered and my salesman is bending over right backwards making sure I'm happy, after all I've had the darn thing only a year! He's going to hurt himself but it's amazing to see someone touch their heels with the back of their head, wow! So things are looking up, even have a courtesy car but df doesn't fit in it very well, it's a bit too small for him being over 6ft and all. But it's nothing a shoe horn and some butter can't fix.

Good day ladies,
Tummy

Spedmom,

Hehehe!! My coworkers told me I was going to have sky-high cholesterol, then a stroke or a heart attack... One even went into the details of the heart surgery her boyfriend had.

But both love French fries, go figure.

I love the story! My sis-in-law told me the same thing! I figure I'm eating healthier so what's the big deal? um--now I just have to exercise more. lol. My car cost $375 to fix the timing belt broke. ugh@mechanics. Wish I knew how to fix things myself-would save me money!! oh-and they kindly pointed out the leak in the radiator (they wanted another $370 to fix that)-but told them it's been there for over a year and it can stay that way for now. lol I'm back to having to watch what I eat very carefully. I'm thinking somehow the extra cauliflower or something is making me go over the 2 (or 3) cups of allowable veggies. I figured if I measured I'd make sure

You all have a great day

OMG that is so funny....I just had my first Atkins attack this past weekend too and was thinking of all of you.

We went out on Friday night to this club we belong to...nothing fancy....an American Legion....and there is this one lady I know very well and she is sitting a little farther down the bar and yells out "Jane how is Mr. Atkins?" I jokingly responded "well he is dead but the diet is doing great" She then tells me "I talked to my daughter and she said you have to get off that diet, it shuts down all your organs and everything.....she's a nurse you know". (as this nurses mother sits and smokes like a chimney) I just told her that was not true and waved her off. I think she was a little pissed but when I saw her in the ladies room later I just pretended like nothing ever happened.

I actually felt like I had been christened into the Atkins family!

Morning Ladies

Well, I'm glad at least everyone's cars are going to be up and running! It's not easy being without a car these days (I know, I was without one for almost 2 years...although I did get A LOT more exercise then).

Sped...a diet intervention! They probably wouldn't be sharing this "concern" if you weren't doing well on Atkins. For some odd reason, people feel threatened when someone else is succeeding...Perhaps it makes them feel more like failures?

I'm a tad pissed off this a.m. My significant other had neck surgery a month ago and gave up smoking so his neck would fuse. I decided I'd bring lunch to work and guess what I found in my lunch box? You guessed it, a pack of smokes. (shaking head) Of course, I'm disappointed, but I do understand how hard habits are to break....but I'm pissed because I was lied to!! I just threw the cigs in the toilet and threw the box away. I'm not planning on even mentioning it *LOL* He'll know when he goes for that forbidden smoke.

Y'all have a great day!!

Good Morning everyone!!!

Nothing exciting going on with my day. I actually have tons more things I could be doing at home rather than sitting here at work being bored!! Oh, well, enough self pity. I've finally decided to accept that I'm in OWL. I tried and tried to stay on induction, but I just needed a change of pace. I purchased some berries (strawberry, blueberry, & raspberries) this weekend along with a can of mixed nuts!! I seem to have kept it under control, but on those days when you just HAVE to have a snack, those almonds sure are nice!!!

Anyway, hope everyone is having a great day!!

yeah, thats too funny, a diet intervention. yeah right!!! Next they will be escorting you to a 12 step program for Atkins addicts!!! "hello my name is..." too wierd that they were also munching on mm's and chips. Everyone does seem to have an opinion about it don't they? My dr. at my last physical exam, couldn't believe how low my cholesteral was when I told her I often eat 2 eggs per day and a fry up. A little bit of knowledge can be dangerous.

Theo's girl.......Hope Toad's surgery goes well and he's home before you know it.

StarPrincess........good luck with your marathon meetings today. Hope you have some high protein snacks to maintain your stamina.....no nodding off !!!

I'm off to the school now to have lunch with the boys. My 5yo was a little nervous to be passing out his birthday invitations to a couple of his classmates. Said he needed his Mom to help him.....so superMom to the rescue!!! He looks so cute now, he lost one of his front teeth 2 days ago, and now the one beside it is loose. But its dropped down on an angle and juts out over his lip. We call his "gappy gums" or "snaggle tooth". He really looks funny!! ahh, the joys of growing up!!! Last night I made some porkchops coated with crushed porkrinds...and OMG!!! I was sooo surprized at how good they were!! I was a disbeliever....YEAH!!! , I'm going to have left overs for lunch!!! Have a great day!!

Ok, back for a few minutes while I'm trying to run a report for my 10:00 meeting.

Ohhhhhhh happy, hyper StarPrincess here!!! Since I don't really drink anything more caffienated than green tea, that french roast I had this morning has really hit. I'm flying! AND to make me that much more "up", I just got informed that the co-worker I like the least gave her notice yesterday. Yippee!!!!

LOL @ intervention! The people I know don't try that crap since they know better, but there have been many times I've gotten lectures from strangers in the grocery store. Either from shoppers who see me checking out the low carb stuff, the sample people who notice I refuse to eat starch or sugar, or the checkout people who notice I just bought 3 packages of bacon. I tend to start cracking up, mumble something about poor, misinformed souls, and the wander away swaying my pilates/bellydance-toned hips as sweetly as possible.

Hi all.
I'm brand new to the site and to Atkins. I started yesterday. This is my first ever real diet and I'd like to lose about 40-50 lbs. I'm 25 and am a high school teacher. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Welcome Shimma!

I forgot to add earlier that DH and I got in a fight last night over the State of the Union address. We both know better than to discuss politics, but he kept pressing the issue and then got mad because I didn't agree with him. He was at work and yelling at me - not because he was mad at me, but because he felt pretty strongly about what he was saying. I told him to stop yelling or I would hang up. He kept yelling so I said "ok, I'm hanging up! I love you - bye" and hung up! Ohhhhhhh, he was pissed!

After an hour he called back to apologize for being a dorkwad and insisting on trying to debate politics with me when he know I won't do it.

All I can say is how funny it is friends and family have the hardest time when we lose the weight. They are always the first to say you seemed to be putting the weight on, the the first to say that diet your on is not the one for you. To funny. It is so great to have others to talk to, that like you just the way you are, and are happy for each successs you have. thanks to all for being there.. and to Shimma welcome.. I also am just starting my low carbing.. But loving it.. I have more energy than I can say. And for the frist time I feel full. I was so used to feeling hungry I can't tell you how wonderful it is to feel full..Thanks to all again..

Welcome, Shimma!

You've picked the right place to be. The girls here (are there any men?) are wonderful, funny and supportive. You're gonna love it!

Star - My other half and I did the same thing last night! I just gave him a peck on the cheek and said g'night. Leaving him to sit and stew.
