High Protein, Low Fat, Low Carb dieters, how many Carbs do you have per day?

  • I've been calorie counting, and it is working well. I got to thinking maybe I should keep the carbs a little lower. I currently only have the "good" carbs anyways, but was wondering how much you all watch the carb intake and if there is a specific number you try to keep it to? Thanks for the input!
  • I eat three single serving carbs a day. I worked my way up to three over a month and a half long period.
  • I resistrict carbs while losing weight, and it works for me. When I started I was doing 100 or less, but I am now doing 60 or less grams per day of carbs. I must note, however, that I find it difficult to do low-carb and high-protein and also doing low-fat, so I am not as much of a stickler on the fat grams. I keep my carbs under 60g and protein at 120-140g.
  • I also restrict by servings rather than a specific gram level. I use an exchange plan, and all of the exchanges (except meat, fat, and veggies) contain about 15g of carbs, veggies contain 5g, and meat and fat less than 3g.

    Veggies, unlimited (3 minimum)
    dairy, 1 to 2
    fruit 3
other carb (grain/starch/beans...) 0 to 2 (in theory)

I have considered dropping the "other carb" category, because most of those I have a hard time controlling after even just one bite. It may be more productive to eliminate the "other carb" category entirely.
  • As a diabetic, I eat about 130-160 grams of carbs a day. I eat six times a day with about 20-30 grams per meal. For me, this is a necessity, as I have to keep my blood sugars from going too low or too high. My calories are about 1300 daily - so far I've lost 42 lbs but still need 20 more to get to my pre-pregnancy size (6). I think this is actually considered moderate carbs...I went down to 80 grams a day when I did Medifast, but I did not feel my best.
