How much carbs are you eating

  • Just trying to get some ideas I use to be on Medifast but it got too expensive and now I'm trying to mimic it. My guidlines are cal 1000/carb under 85/protein 110 but I usually go over/Fat 35-40 g of fat. I'm starting to think the calorie intake maybe too low. Any suggestions please????
  • How much do you weigh? 1000 calories is WAY too low. I get around 1500 calories/day and around 100 grams of carbs per day.

    Typical menu for me is:
    Breakfast:
Omelette with veggies and protein (today ham and onions and peppers)

    Lunch:
Large salad with red leaf lettuce, chicken, turkey, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, 2 tbsp ranch, tomato, etc.

    Dinner:
Grilled marinated steak, peas, 1 wheat dinner roll with some butter on it.

    Snack:
Watermelon or cantelope or strawberries, some sort of fruit at least for dessert
  • I started at 210
was on Medifast lost 30 pounds
    Now I'm at 180
    My goal weight is 145
    I'm 5"4' tall
  • Beerab your menu sounds so delicious what is you average weight loss?
  • 1000 calories is pretty low, especially since you may need to drop them as you lose weight and you're not really going to have too far too go. maybe up your calories a bit? I do lower carb too, trying to stay under 100 per day, but I can't imagine trying to eat that low in calories and carbs. I would up your calories a bit if I were you, most people can lose quite well on 1200+ calories. I'm not an expert or anything, just my advice.
  • Eh, it comes and goes- right now I'm sort of maintaining- but when I was actively pursuing I was averaging 1-2 lbs a week. I've got too much going on right now but plan on starting the P90X with my hubby soon. From January to like July I lost 20 lbs- but I have PCOS so it makes it a bit harder to lose weight IMO.
  • I'm not sure there's any reason to keep your fat cals that low. How about an avocado?
  • My goal is health first, then weight loss. I have been gradually lowering carbs for the past month due to a pre-diabetes diagnosis. For the first few weeks, I just ate, but excluded all refined carbs. When I plugged a typical day's eating (I eat the same breakfast and same lunch pretty much every day), I was averaging close to 2000 calories a day and just over 150g of carbs. I have since lowered my carbs to about 100g a day and increased my fat, and am eating fewer calories (closer to 1600 or 1700).

As far as weight loss, I guess I would say it's about 3 pounds a month. I know that sounds slow; I am a slow loser. You should know that I was losing at this rate the last time I tried to lose weight on a low fat, calorie restricted diet. I was not successful because I was hungry all the time. Limiting carbs and increasing fat has been wonderful for me so far.
  • I average 60-80 carbs a day, I eat about 1800 cals a day. I eat meat, eggs, veggies, and lower glycemic fruits (berries yes, watermelon no) I eat coconut milk, and very little dairy. I never eat grains, or legumes and NO sugar and NO processed foods. I am rarely hungry and have lost over 10 pounds in a month.
  • This is just my opinion but I don't think that how many grams of carbs another person is eating is going to be very helpful. Current weight, metaolisim age, how much weight you need to loose and how long you want it to take plus many other factors have to be considered.

Again, this is just my opion...If your goal is effecient weight loss then you should consider starting out on the lowest amount of carbs you can tolerate.

You can do this on a plan like the Atkin's "inductions" diet and then after a couple of weeks you can slowly add carbs until you get to a week (or two) without any weight loss then you can cut back to the number of carbs you were eating when you were still losing weight.

I seem to have a very low threshold. I could be health related or just that I am getting older. I am not really sure.

I have to keep my carb intake UNDER 60 gr to lose any weight. Or I can stay low carb, count calories and keep under 1,200 per day which I did for a month (NutriSystem), but I felt hungry all the time!

For the past two weeks I have been having 15gr (or less) of carbs per day and losing about 2.0-2.5 pounds a week.

I could probably loose 1.5 to 2.0 a week on 30 gr of carbs but my blood sugar goes up if I am over 20 gr. Right now controlling my BG's is critical as I am having four joint replacements in the next 10 months.

I know that BG's going up on 20 gr of carbs not "right" so am going to see an endocrinologist about this in October. (the appointments were 6-8 weeks out!)

Where's the like button? Olive oil, butter, and cream would work as well

Really, we do need a "like" button! Yay for primal, Mikki!!!
  • Primal seems good. I'm going to do some research!
