cool.. I think you're talking to me, but not sure. In answer to your question, I lost my first 10 lbs just trying to eat healthy and exercise, I lost the first 10 pretty quick, then had some major life stressors and stalled for a few months.

Now that I'm ready to get serious about losing, I'm going the low-carb way, though I've done it before, years ago, and had success. I only started doing strict induction, low carb, in the middle of last week.. so no big results yet (especially since I blew it last night!)

Oh my gosh I know! I was actually at a much lower weight when I was going thru my "party days" and looked a lot healthier than I do now - but when I stopped drinking I gained a bunch of weight and my family particularly said "you really need to get back to being healthy like you were before" (which is when I was DRINKING all the time!!)

Only you knows whats best for your body...other people are idiots

When I first started Atkins my mother (she's a nurse) went on and on about how unhealthy it is and how all of the doctors she works with think its so unhealthy. But the proof is in the pudding! She's now a firm believer in Atkins and does it along with me. She couldn't believe that I'd lost 20lbs in 1.5 months with energy and good health to spare! So she gave it a try and also looked and felt better almost immediately... so we've both been living low-carb for years now (i've slipped up a few times, but I'm smartening up), and she's been busy converting the docs that she works with.

At any rate, I couldn't tell you how many people I've converted to this way of eating. They all want to know what I've done and they have since hopped on the low-carb train

However, if I ever feel uncomfortable about discussing low-carb eating, I simply say that I am pre-diabetic and for my own health I'm not able to eat sugars or carbohydrates unless they are natural, like those found in veggies. Anway, that's my story on that.

Really enjoyed reading this Thread late last night - lmao @ these are the same folks who don't know there's carbs in fruit juice! Can't tell you how many times I've represented middle aged men at work who have diabetes - RUN to the vending machine for large bottles of ORANGE JUICE 'cause "my blood sugar is up."

I've had many of the same experiences -if not all- as you all have at the mention of the name "Atkins." The most irritating to me in the last year or so is "You better be careful with that diet - Atkins died of a heart attack and/or stroke!" When I sometimes say that No - the Dr. died of a head injury when he slipped on ice and fell - the most persistent respond "Yeah, but he had a heart attack/stroke before he fell!" Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr -

As my body shape has changed and also energy level goes thru the roof - most want to know what I'm doing - I'm going to let the results speak for themselves too!

I printed a copy of Dr. Atkins death certificate I found online. I keep it in my handbag and when some totally ignorant person tries to insist he died from his own diet...this usually shuts them right up!
