veggie problems.. warning may be TMI
Ok so since I started counting calories I've really been trying to make sure I'm eating good nutritional healthy calories and not just empty ones.. there for I've increased how much veggies I'm eating. especially since I cant eat A LOT for very few calories.. anyways My problem is ever sine I had my gallbladder out when I was 21 (I'm 29 now) I don't process veggies very well and especially raw ones I pretty much head to the bathroom with in 15-20 with bad IBS.. I've also been eating more bananas and yogurt to try and help that issue and I'm not having any success Any advice does any one else have this issue? I do also try and get fiber in as well and any starches I eat are whole wheat or whole grain. I really don't' want to cut out raw veggies since they give me the most nutritional value in their uncooked state. I seem to do better when they are cooked which is fine but doesn't come in very handy for snacks like carrots sticks or celery sticks to munch on or for a nice filling salad.. any suggestions?

I'm not sure how this would work with the gall bladder issue, but I have had IBS issues in the past and taking a probiotic suppliment has helped tremendously. Philip's Colon Health is a good, affordable one. You have to stick with it and keep taking it because you won't see results right away but in my opinion it has been worth it. Besides bathroom problems, the probiotic has helped with stomach bloating, so I feel thinner

I was going to say that same thing! I don't have IBS but my BFF does and she takes Phillips daily, and it's helped her so so much. After she was taking it for 3 or 4 weeks, she started peeing like MAD lol, and hadn't even realized her body was holding on to so much water and random other "crap" lol... She tells me she "feels more normal" than she did before.
Good luck to you!

I hate that I traded one evil for the other I got rid of my gall bladder issues when it got taken out but instead I traded it for IBS! ughh I thought this was something senior citizens suffered with not people still in their 20's! anyways thanks again!

I have a lot of problems digesting raw veggies. The only ones that do not seem to bother me are celery, cucumbers, lettuces, mushrooms and baby spinach.
Since getting older my digestion seems to have changed and I cannot tolerate a lot of foods anymore in thier raw state so I cook them.

What are you drinking? I have found that diet colas really trigger my ibs. I have also found that going to long between eating triggers it. I take fiberchoice daily and it really helps.

I'd eat them cooked. Because they aren't doing any good if they are flying out of your digestive system before they are digested. I eat all my veggies cooked because I don't like the texture of raw ones. I don't worry about the nutrients, because they are more nutritious than if I was avoiding veggies altogether.

I was drinking quite a bit of diet colas But I have cut back A LOT in the past week only having maybe a can a day or some times only every other day before I'd have 4-5 a day. I've really been trying to develop a taste for water and tea and since I've been drinking more of that I have noticed a big change!! for the better!

I can drink the clear diet drinks and they dont seem to bother my ibs, just the colored one. So if you still feel the need for a diet drink daily try a clear one.

I don't have IBS, just gallbladder-less but I know what you are talking about. Mine isn't as sudden in onset but it can be painful and an urgency a few hours later. I really try to balance in meats, cheeses, and some carbs when I eat salads and things like that. It has improved over time and my digestive system has seem to adjust so it's not as bad as it was at first. I remember having to baby my digestive system for a good while. I also remember the first time I'd eaten fruit salad all by itself and discovered the new issue... That was when a good gallbladder-less friend suggested I eat proteins and carbs with my fruits and veggies b/c it helped her.
I haven't head of the Phillips colon health but it's worth a shot. I might give it a try myself.
