Question Raw Vs Cooked Weight, Calories?

I'm sorry if this is a silly question but I am confused about how many calories to account for with potatoes. Yesterday, I made some sweet potatoes and the raw weight was 14 oz but only 10 oz after cooked.

So, if I went by the cooked weight it would be significanly fewer calories than raw. I have noticed the same thing with rice?

Anyone have an answer to this?

Do I go by the cooked weight or the raw weight? (rice, sweet potato, veggies)

Thanks!

Eve

I personally always go by the raw weight. But as long as when you are doing your calories you have the correct calories for raw or cooked it shouldnt make a difference.

it doesnt really matter.. if you look up 10oz of cooked potatos or 14oz of raw ones, you should get the same kcals

Question

When I entered in my food on fitday the calories for potatoes, whether raw or cooked, is the same.

25 cals an ounce, raw
25 cals an ounce, cooked (sweet potato)

I had 14 oz raw and it made 10 oz cooked.

That is

350 calories (going by raw weight)
250 calories (going by cooked weight)

This is why I am confused

Thanks again!

if you eat it cooked - take the cooked weight
if you eat it raw - take the raw weight

But maybe I'm wrong here ha! I don't weigh food until i go to put it on my plate.

If the rice says a 1/4 cup = x amount of calories uncooked then that's what I go by. If and whatever that yields after it's cooked I use the uncooked calories.
