Default Calorie Discrepancy

Howdy,
(All for the Black Eyed Pea) On the Daily Plate Grilled Salmon is 382 cal while on Diet Facts it is 625. This is a large discrepancy. I was looking up cal for Grilled Cajun Fish which was 626 (which was too high and saw the daily plate suggestion of the grilled Salmon because it is lower in calories, 382. However on Diet Facts it is same calories as the catfish).

I will be going there with family and as is my habit, I figure out my meal ahead of time and not at the table.

What do you think? Which calorie count would you trust?

I'm guessing (and only guessing) that the higher estimate is assuming you are eating the skin, and the second one is assuming you are not.

My guess is what is used in preparing the salmon. Sounds like Daily Plate is counting only salmon and possibly some spices, Diet Facts may be considering other ingredients as well. check and see if the restaurant has a web site , many restaurants will show calorie counts for the dishes.

I emailed BEP as they didn't have nutritional count on their website.

What I do when I come across a big discrepancy is to average out the calories. I try not to get too worked up about calories on a meal that I may eat only once, but if it is to be a part of my regular diet, I find the best estimate I can find and stick to that number. I would add 382 and 625 for a meal of 503. Stay aware that restaurant meals are larger than we may have at home and the calories are reflected in that.

I think this is a fair approach and one I shall implement. Thanks for posting.

Default Calories for meal

Howdy,
Sometimes I feel like a newbie. I am still researching calories for Black-Eyed Pea and realized the calorie count is for 1 meal. Would that include the rice that comes with the dish? Still comparing Catfish & Salmon both (grilled). If it does then the 626 cal makes more sense, yet in the world of restaraunts, what makes sense?
Thanks,
Karen
