Great app! I use it every day.

Kind word of warning ~ there is a poster here who put her numbers in and "loseit" gave her the wrong daily caloric intake. If you use it for that, you should definitely double check what other sites say in regards to your allowable daily caloric intake. Hers was set too low, like 900 calories a day which isn't safe. Not saying "don't use it" just saying to double check normal caloric intake with other sites.

Good point above. I double checked my recommended calorie intake on a couple of other sites, and the lose number was very close. I do notice as I've lost a few pounds, it decreases my calorie budget a little bit.

I did see the post by the other woman who was "told" to only eat 900 calories. I don't know if it's more inaccurate for someone who is already that small or what (i.e., there's no built in minimum calorie intake?)...but for me it seems to be OK.

Howdy,
Good point about calorie calculator apps. I use Loseit as it syncs to my iMac and Nutrition Menu. They help to corroborate my daily calorie logs. I like the ease of some things with Nutrition Menu and I started with it first, so I have a greater data base for it. It does not have a useful way to save data which is a big problem. Loseit does. I also have Restaurants, and GoMeals for greater food data base some not tied to internet. I travel a lot, and this information is quite useful for me.

And from time to time, I check with other food calcualtors. But in the end, my body does what it does, and that is the information I am looking for.

Best wishes.

I use this app too. I find it much easier than writing food down, especially after programming my routine foods in the database.

You can always edit your calorie budgets, so there should be no excuse for eating too few calories in extreme cases.

Use common sense kids!

Daily calorie intake?

Lose It told me I can eat 2650 calories per day. I've got a lot of weight to lose but this can't be right. Can someone recommend a website I can use to double check? I've started using a new program call Flat Belly Revolution which is suppose to track your calorie intake throughout the day and tell you if your off but it doesn't include a calorie intake estimator.

Any recommendations?

I use Lose It every day! Love that app. I was so glad to get rid of my paper journal.

It told me to eat 1800 a day which I knew was too high. I just adjusted what it recommended and set my daily goal to what I wanted it to be.

alicat17 02-12-2010 03:14 AM

Yeah, in the "Goals" section, if I select "2 lbs a week," my calorie budget is 1087, which I think is too low. So, I picked 1 lb a week, and it's 1587, which seems better to me.

Instead of perceiving the app to be incorrect, perhaps it's just recommending a healthy and productive pace for those in a certain weight range? Some goal-setting is unrealistic, especially when you're already at a healthy, normal weight for your height and lifestyle.

Lose It! has been a Godsend for me. Even if you have your own calorie goal and don't want to trust the app, it's great for tracking data. I include exercise in there, but I always underestimate calories burned a bit. It's just a good way to get a ballpark understanding of where you are. And it's free!

I've been using Lose It! It's been a great way for me to keep track of what I'm eating. I've tried tracking food on various websites before and always just ended up forgetting to do it, or something like that. The beauty of Lose It! is that I always have my iTouch on me, so I can add a food as soon as I eat it, and I won't forget to add anything until tomorrow when I maybe won't remember everything I've eaten today.

I think that's the key. Maybe not healthy, but definitely productive based on what one might input as a goal. The app probably just doesn't have minimum calorie settings so it gives whatever the numbers come out to.

Say we have a 5'0'', 25yo, woman who is pretty much sedentary. Her maintenance is only just over 1500 calories per day. If she puts in that she wants to lose 2 lbs per week to get down to 120 lbs, for instance, she's going to get some pretty whacky numbers if the app doesn't have low-end limits.

alicat17 02-13-2010 12:57 AM

I've found I do better if I put in my exercise at the end of the day, so I don't count on those extra calories.

Candi26 02-13-2010 11:12 AM
