Default A little worried to eat carbs and such~

Hey everyone!

Um, basically, I've been calorie counting for a month now, and it's going great. As I'm a vegetarian, I enjoy making vegtables the centre of a meal, and for most days, I just have a stir fry with a variety of veggies or something similar for dinner. For lunch, I'm happy with soup, and a side dish of boiled veggies. The thing is, I realize that I'm not eating alot of carbs. I havent been eating bread or potatos, because I'd rather have those calories in something more filling and healthier- like a little dish of babyspinage and carrot sticks. I'm worried that if I have a slice of a bread with some soup- still staying in my calorie zone, it'll pile on the pounds because I haven't had any in so long.
Does this sound insane?

No, not insane, but I understand. I am totally a carb addict, especially bread. It sends me overboard and I usually end up in a binge. Any time I eat a carb I make sure to balance it with protein. Then I feel fuller and the carbs don't break down as fast.

VeeDeValentine,
Please remember, there are Complex Carbs, which gives our Body Fuel for energy, and then the Simple Carbs we need to steer clear of.In saying Complex Carbs gives our Body energy,I'm not implying to eat at lib.I don't follow ADA Diets, because the Complex Carb Counts exceed what I feel is to much for us Daily.

I've been wondering about this too, and whether I should look into to lowcarb caloriecounting, I already eat mainly wholefoods (am pescatarian) but think my diet needs some tweaking and so I'm planning to learn more about GI/GL. This is mainly because I binge on carbs too, and I've noticed that some protein at every meal, like an egg, a few tbsp cottage cheese or a small portion of fish seem to keep me away from the binges and more energetic too. I love beans and lentils too and grate carrot into almost everything to stay fuller for longer. I would never cut out carbs extremely low because I'm a great fan of vegetables and fruit, but I do wonder if there is a way to make better GI veg choices or combinations.

I completely undertand, I truly believe that people who at least a couple servings of carbs are healthier. Our bodies need them to run at their full potential. Hope this helps

Veggies and fruits are carbs, too. You're getting plenty of carbs. I don't personally eat potatoes, pasta, rice, or any grains, unless it's a cheat meal, but I try to avoid that since it sets off the simple carb cravings cycle and/or gives me what I call the carb hangover: insomnia and a headache and feeling like crap all the next day.

So what do you eat? I'm also trying to figure out what the carb intake should be. Thanks!
