Just sayin'!

TBH, that's kinda irrelevant. The fact that some people have the genetics to live long regardless of how they live does not change what the rest of us need to do to increase our chances.

JMHO
Calorie restriction goes against everything I have read on this board.I have seen countless posts from people desperate for advice on how to make the scale move. The number one response is....up your calories. So, if that has been your stand on achieving health and weight loss, then I would expect that calorie restriction would be something you would be opposed to.Correct? With that said, I think supporting others choices are ok but there is absolutely nothing wrong with disagreeing with someone else....sometimes you just have to broaden you shoulders or thicken your skin.

The OP quoted an old, dead guy who lived a long time:
May I quote Miskawayh, an early practitioner of Calorie Restriction? He was a very early philosopher in the Islamic tradition who was into controlling food desire and lived to be 97 years old in the 10th century.
His longevity could be equally attributed to genetics, as may Eleanor of Aquitaine's. Thus making his calorie restriction lifestyle, well, moot. And the OPs example equally as "irrelevant". Maybe calorie restriction had NOTHING to do with his lifespan, he only THOUGHT it did. So why emulate a moot and unproven lifestyle?

But perhaps the real difference is that Miskawayh' life felt a HECK of a lot longer than Eleanor's did...

PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW: The present review discusses the current state of knowledge regarding the effects of calorie restriction in modulating metabolism and aging.

RECENT FINDINGS: There are currently no interventions or gene manipulations that can prevent, stop or reverse the aging process. However, there are a number of interventions that can slow down aging and prolong maximal lifespan up to 60% in experimental animals. Long-term calorie restriction without malnutrition and reduced function mutations in the insulin/IGF-1 signaling pathway are the most robust interventions known to increase maximal lifespan and healthspan in rodents. Although it is currently not known if long-term calorie restriction with adequate nutrition extends maximal lifespan in humans, we do know that long-term calorie restriction without malnutrition results in some of the same metabolic and hormonal adaptations related to longevity in calorie restriction rodents. Moreover, calorie restriction with adequate nutrition protects against obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension and atherosclerosis, which are leading causes of morbidity, disability and mortality.

Hmm, I should be more careful what I wish for. Deconflation doesn't sound like something I need more of after losing 60 pounds ...

Bobo, thanx for stopping in to share with us. I think we all do what we feel is best for ourselves. If cal restriction works for you then great. How many cals are you eating a day?

Your welcome Jasmine. The CR Society and others estimate that there are only about one thousand people worldwide practicing the Cron lifestyle.

For myself, Cron is primarily about achieving optimal health as I age.

By consuming a healthy nutrient dense diet, anyone can improve their health, reduce their dependence on prescription drugs, enhance their quality of life and expand their mental awareness and creativity.

All we have to do is give our bodies outstanding nutrition so that it has the building materials it needs to heal disease and rebuild itself from the inside out. Also, try to avoid all of the foods and food ingredients that cause disease. It’s been suggested that more than 95% of all chronic disease is caused by food choice, toxic food ingredients and nutritional deficiencies.

Hopefully, all recognize that calories consumed in excess may be responsible for elevated blood-pressure, blood lipids, insulin, and various growth factors, as well as increased metabolic loading. These markers in turn are early indicators for greatly increased risk of heart failure, stroke, arthritis, cancer, and diabetes.

Can calorie restriction extend human lifespan? Can calorie restriction with optimal nutrition improve healthspan? I believe so. By slowing or halting the aging process, the healthy human life span hopefully would be extended. Individuals will be able to remain healthy, vigorous, and productive at ages at which they would otherwise be dead.

Seems like not much of a sacrifice to make toward furthering our healthy existence by enough years to see the grandkids grow up to have kids of their own.

Best to you.

Bo

Added on edit: Sorry, forgot to answer your original question. Daily calories generally average between 1800 and 2100.
