holy crap... I don't even want to BEGIN to think about it! Ha, ha, ha... thousands and thousands! I am a recovering total junk-food-aholic and most of my calories were consumed after dinner and before bed.
I'd like to see some numbers though. This is an interesting discussion...
I don't have an exact number, but I'd imagine somewhere in the 3000 calorie range. I have some "splurge" days that were easily that and then I have to watch it for a few days after. Given that I can still easily eat that much, I have to be careful.
Just for the "fun" of it I checked the Culver's Website. A typical meal at Culvers for me was a Dbl bacon Cheese Burger, Fries, Rootbeer, and a Banana Foster Sundae. We usually went to Culver's once a week. This single meal has 2341 calories. Tht is NOT including refills on the pop...I used to drink 2-3 glasses. A typical DQ meal is 1840 calories. Surprise a Mc Donalds Meal "only" has 1040 calories, but I didn't get ice cream there.
One of these would have been ONE meal for the day, then I would have "grazed" during the day too. OMG I bet I was eating 3500 to 5000 calories a day!!!
wow...umm lets see I was a binge eater/constant grazer...I used to eat 3-4 plates at a buffet..not including dessert. I'd say probably up in the 3000 range EEK!!!
I would have days where I probably ate 3000-5000 calories and then days that where pretty good probably around 2000-2500. I would eat a pint of Ben & Jerry's in one sitting no problem. I could eat a whole box of cookies in one day. Large size fast food combo meals where at least once a week sometimes more. I would have a day where I said I would go on a diet tomorrow so today I will eat everything I have to give up, those days were easily 5000 calories. Problem was either never went on the diet or only lasted a few days then the cycle would start again. I'm so glad I'm not doing that anymore.
Interesting... I read this thread and thought: "I have NO idea!" Fascinatingly enough, if I put my starting weight into a BMR calorie calculator, using a sedentary lifestyle, it says I could eat 2400 calories (give or take) and maintain that weight. There's NO WAY that's all I was eating... so moving my huge carcass around must actually have burned quite a lot of calories! I'd estimate I ate at least - at LEAST! - 3500 a day, and most days, closer to 5000, or more.
Thanks for the thread - food for thought. Pun intended!
OMG, I can't even phathom the calories that I was eating prior to my lifestyle change. There were days when I would scarf down pizza and ice cream (LOTS of ice cream) and peanut M & M's and multiple bowls of cold cereal and oy, oy, oy. NOT GOOD. I wouldn't be shocked if it was in the 5000 range on certain days. Appalled, yes - shocked - no.
I would estimate easily 4000+ calories per day, pre diet.
Most of my bad eating was lunches out with co-workers, a big dinner, and then post dinner snacking. My husband is big on cheese and crackers at night ... and it wouldn't be unusual for the two of us to finish an entire box of crackers and a pound of cheese at a sitting. Every night.
I'm guessing that it was at was around 1,600 - 2,700 depending on the day. At my highest weight I was 210 lbs and then my BMR was supposedly 1,831. I was pretty sedentary. The reason why it was kinda low some days and rather high on others was because we would go weeks without having any real food in the house and my mother would buy large fast food meals for us to eat once a day. But, when we did have food in the house, I actually didn't eat quite that bad.
I have no idea- but it was A LOT. I would scratch my head in wonder how the size of a box of pasta could suggest a 2 oz serving, when I could cook and eat the whole box, or nearly all of it (with some type of sauce). How could a box have 8 servings!? And "snacks" could be a 1000 calories if it were nuts or cookies or chips. Only a small portion of those already contains a lot of calories!
I started this long road to weight loss when I actually stunned myself by tracking on a calorie website -- not only did I average about 4,500 calories a day but it felt like every two minutes I had something I needed to enter!!
I hardly ever ate fast food but I was a binger. I'd agree with others, somewhere between 3000-5000 calories. I used to love eating lots of french bread with cheese (or any other type of bread). I'd also buy ice cream, dreyers cookies and cream. I also had no sense of portion control so it wasn't unusual for me to make a meal meant for multiple servings and eat them all.
When I first started dating my husband, we went out to eat all the time and both of us ended up gaining a few lbs. One of our favorites was going to Indian restaurants. Saag Paneer (creamy spinach with cheese) and Naan was my favorite meal. It is very calorie intensive.
I was a binger and a fast food eater as well. I could easily eat in one sitting...at least 4-5 slices of pizza, and entire order of breadsticks, and several pieces of whatever desert we ordered as well as several glasses of soda. I'd have to say on average I probably consumed 3500-4000 calories per day and somedays up to 5000+ calories. It's really eye opening when you plug in all the numbers and see exactly what you were eating before.
I really have to watch myself, because I'm a huge boredom eater. It's a horrible habit I'm attempting to break.
