When we were stationed in Europe in the Navy, we had the chance to visit England. We saw them eat some similar breakfast foods and some different from us.
They will broil tomatoes and mushrooms at breakfast - great for all phases of South Beach! They also eat baked beans - now I don't know of any ready made US brands without sugar (at least I didn't see any in Kroger's last night) but I think I saw a SBD recipe for baked beans on this forum.
They also eat smoked fish. They call them kippers or bloaters, all herring, name depends on how long they have been smoked and salted. I don't know if the real thing would technically be legal on SBD, haven't seen any in the States. Once in a while, though, I do see canned herring fillets called "Kipper Snacks." Love 'em! Canned sardines would work, so would any fish fillet broiled in the same pan with your tomatoes and mushrooms! Might not be authentic British cuisine, but a good phase 1 breakfast for those who want a break from eggs!
It reminds me of a bean paste recipe in a low fat cookbook, that was wonderful on toast (at any meal). I now make it fairly regularly. Any can of beans (kidney, garbanzo, pinto, butter, lima....) thrown into a food processor and pureed by themselves or with any or all of the following: seasoning blends, oil or salad dressing, aromatic veggies (celery, onion, garlic, bell pepper)...
i love english breakfasts hehe. For a healthier and nutritious breakfast, i usually go for high fibre toast with low sugar/salt baked beans on top.... yum
Well, my ORIGINAL suggestion was the fish, mushrooms, tomatoes and possible beans. I believe that is phase1 legal, just so long as you are not using baked beans that contain sugar.
If I wasn't too cheap to buy it for myself
Lox, Neufchatel, Tomatoes and dill or those lil flower bud things who's name escapes me!
I could eat Lox (smoked Salmon 24/7)
are those kinds of canned fish Ph1 legal TJ's has one that's divine!
The egg white buns might be in the atkins section. I didn't particularly care for them when I had them (BUCK NASTY, more like.) But then when I did Atkins a lot of people swore by them.
i'm a newbie here and just wanted to put my two cents worth in..
i am back to phase one and also dreading the eggieweggs so i appreciate all the alternatives offered. here's one of my faves: tomato/lo-fat mozz salad. you can use balsamico/olive oil dressing or top it off with pesto. guaranteed yummy and p1 safe!
