Hi Skinnycow!
Nelie's right, I had a lower body lift in 2003 and posted about my experiences
here. I'm still completely thrilled with my results and the scars are really faded at this point. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Like Nelie, I carried most of my weight on my butt and hips, so a tummy tuck by itself wouldn't really have dealt with the problem of all the excess skin on those areas. I lost 22" from my hips, which left 22" of folded up, wrinkled skin that just sagged from my butt. So a lower body lift was the only way to get rid of it.
One thing you should know, though -- a lower body lift doesn't deal with the problem of excess skin on your thighs. A thigh lift would be necessary to get rid of that skin. When you've reached your goal weight, visit a plastic surgeon for a consultation and he or she can tell you what results you could expect from different procedures.
