turkey neck

The skin issues around my mid-section I can deal with as this is hidden by clothes and I think most of this might improve. The same with under the arms. However, I absolutely hate the turkey neck! I have a flap of skin there that no amount of weight lifting will help. I highly doubt that I'm going to get a face lift, so I guess I just have to live with it and accept it.

I'll attach a photo (sorry it is sort of looking up my nose) ;)

For the long time maintainers, has the skin on your face improved over time on its own? Did you also have the gobble gobble gobble neck?

You are young and have other good facial features so I think it will be a combination of:
-yes it will improve
&
- people will not even notice or focus there

Exercise practices like yoga and pilates that by their nature improve your posture and carriage help lots. I am much older and have observed that it is less noticeable now.

I was told to look at the ceiling and do kiss faces to tighten that area up. I tend to thrust my jaw forward and make icky faces that move that area when I am sitting at my desk and it is pretty tight in there. I don't think you look bad, though. Beards are good camo.

Matt, I understand that you're self-conscious about it, but, honestly, I think it's hardly noticeable.

I sympathize with how you feel, though. I now have a wrinkly, crepey wattle that may not go away and probably makes me look 10-15 years older. I'll take it over the extra 115 pounds, though. ;)

Matt, I really do understand the struggles of body image issues, but on this one...I honestly can't see what you're talking about in that photo. It looks completely normal, what am I missing?

Eliana 12-26-2010 07:05 PM

I agree with ncuneo. I do not see it. ;) You have a man's angular neck. :dunno:

Here is another picture (taken with a crappy cell phone). There is a flap of skin on my neck that hangs down.

ubergirl 12-28-2010 11:19 PM

Matt-- I'm not sure what you are talking about either. I wonder if it may be less noticeable than you realize....

KellBell135 12-29-2010 12:26 AM

We are definitely our own biggest critics. You look great :)

Eliana 12-29-2010 07:33 AM

Don't all men have that?

I would try Rachael's exercise idea and give it time, but really I think for a man it's not noticeable.

matt Im going to give it to you absolutely straight here!

1) look at skinny people that are not formerly obese, its actually pretty normal (even though it may be undesirable to you) to have a little bit of hanging skin there.

2) I have always been very, very concerned about that area myself and Ive noticed an improvement even in the last month...so it can/will improve some.

3) I truly believe building up muscle all over reduces hanging skin issues all over, even in areas like the neck that arent super muscley.

4) I also truly believe a regime that has high antioxidants, fish oils and other super foods improves skin condition.

You look great though. I can only see what you mean in the pix because I have so harshly criticized myself in the same way. 99.9% of the world will not even notice.

cherrypie 12-29-2010 09:59 AM

I can see a little bit there. But honestly, If you hadn't pointed it out I would never have noticed it, and wouldn't even have contributed it to weightloss if you did point it out. It simply isn't that noticable.

rachael 12-29-2010 03:54 PM

It really isn't noticeable. We notice a lot more on ourselves than anyone else ever would.

ncuneo 12-29-2010 05:58 PM

I would have still have to go with it's completely normal and I wouldn't have even given it a second thought if you hadn't pointed it out.

MissKoo 12-29-2010 06:09 PM

I'm saving up for a mini lift when I reach goal . . .

That being said, you look very good. No, you aren't 20 years old so don't expect to look like it!
