Do I Look As Terrible As I Think I Do??
I'm totally serious.
After losing 41 pounds since January, every time I see a pic of my face....I think that I look sickly and gaunt.
I am not looking for empty praise, just reassurance that I look fairly healthy and not "too thin". That would be impossible as I am still in the overweight BMI for my age.
First pic is this weekend, second pic is a month ago, third pic is almost one year ago. Sorry they are in backward order.
Thanks for reading.

I don't think that you look sickly or gaunt - you look just fine to me.
Body image is a tricky thing.

Not at all - how long were you used to looking at your face before you lost the weight? Perhaps that became the "normal" in your mind? You look wonderful!

you don't look gaunt at all.
and as a general rule of thumb I would say no, we never look as bad as we think we do.

You look fine to me- not sickly at all- your skin looks good to so that definitely shows you aren't sickly.

Thanks! I'm not particularly vain, I just can't believe the difference in my face. It is startling every time I see a pic of myself.
I suppose my brain hasn't quite caught up with my weight loss. I'm not complaining, I never want to be bloated and puffy like I was this time last year.
I took one in the mirror that is a bit more like I think of myself. This is the same day as the first pic in my original post.

Yeah look great! I WISH I could see the difference in my face. It is the last thing to go for me. Boobs being the first. yay. (insert sarcasm here)

You don't look sickly or gaunt at all. I think that we get so used to seeing ourselves that a dramatic change can make us look "wrong" somehow. Of course, I just decided to man up and take some before pics and when I saw them I was just floored at how awful and bloated I look.

Lioness-Yep, boobs go south so quickly. Mine don't have that "shelf" (roll of fat) to lay upon anymore. Not a pretty sight.
Sunshine-I bet you look much better than you did 15 pounds ago!!

You look great to me, and I have to explain that is an especially high compliment. In many before and after shots, I'll secretly think "s/he looked better in the before."
It's not something I admit often (and never to the person who's lost the weight). If I would have thought so in your pictures, I would have just kept my mouth (er fingers?) shut about it.
I think often it's just a matter of getting used to the new look, but I also think that sometimes it's more than that. Some people do seem to have shadows/bags under their eyes after weight loss (especially rapid weight loss) that are usually temporary. Also, there are some people who do look a little better with more padding to their facial features (but it's not all about beauty, and I'm not saying anyone sould gain weight just because the weight makes their face a little prettier).
In your case though, I think maybe you just have to get used to your "new" face.

Ummm - you look freaking awesome!
Your post actually reminds me of a famous quote from Catherine Deneuve, "After a certain age, you have to choose between your face and your ***."
I dont actually think you are at that point at all!!
But the subject matter did remind me that for women who have never been fat, they say the bodyfat% you need to maintain for facial fullness after the age of 40 is >15% (ok that is really low, seems easy!).
I have this feeling that for women who have been obese, the point is actually higher...

You look great, my dear, and good for you; you *deserve to look great.
Your post is the perfect lead-in for this anecdote:
About a week ago I saw a casual friend, a lovely lady, just one of those delightful sparks. She didn't have a lot to lose, but she has lost 20#s and I was telling her how great she looks and how *young, because she does. (and she *is after all a year younger than I am, so *young!) She said she asked her husband how much more she should lose, 5 or 10#s?? His response was to shrug and say, "Depends on how old you want to look." She said, "Really?", and he said, "Well, yah, the more you lose the older you'll look." ..Biting tongue, biting tongue..wanted to ask who the loser *really is!
C'mon. *NOT the correct response for a DH or anyone else, for that matter!
