Has anyone had armlifts (brachioplasty)?

IMHO, I AGREE!!! Scars fade, but batwings flabble FOREVER. IF I ever get to my ideal weight, I KNOW I will need to reduce some excess skin (after my 70lb loss, I have the delightful start of a turkey gobbler under my neck and I HATE IT!!!). Another 30 lbs, and I'll probably get SHOT by some avid hunter who mistakes me for Thanksgiving dinner...

I don't think I have much of a batwing problem, but I think I am still young enough that most of mine will bounce back with exercise anyway once the excess weight is lost. Frankly, I'd rather go for the tummy tuck instead. I figure I have all these little scars on my stomach from the lap band operation, what are a few more?

Hi..newbie here I had an arm lift in January of this year and I am very pleased with the results thus far...My scar is invisible because it is in my armpit. The scar just blends in with the natural creases in my arm. I also had a full tummy tuck too so scars don't bother me at all...naked, I look like a scarecrow hee hee!! Good luck on your decision!

I LOVE cheeseburgers, hence my avatar...I might have to change it, thou cause it is making me hungry too..
I actually had to talk my surgeo into doing my arms this way, he actually doesn't do armlifts unless you have batwings, and oddly enough I did not have them. My arms are very small but due to a bout of predinsone medicine, I collect a pocket of fat near my armpit that would not budge. I previously had lipo in my arms, and it was a waste b/c after we found out it was just skin. So he decided to do with my revision of my belly button (from my previous TT)...I couldn't use my arms for about a week...nor could use deordant (sp) for about 2 weeks...I was FUNKY. I had both disolvable stitches (inside) and actual stitches on the outside....I had in done Jan 27th and I am still swollen at times (depending on what exercises I do), but the difference is very noticable. My ps is Dr barry cohen (va, md) and he is terrific... Did I miss anything???

I agree with you. I want surgery after I lose this weight. The only problem I have is finding a surgeon who doesn't want to take half my arms off. I don't need my arms to look like pencils...I just need them to look normal. Most surgeons just don't understand that and therefore end up taking to much. So arm surgery scares me the most, but I am so looking forward to walking on the beach in a sundress! Maybe we could all research plastic surgeons together. I have been looking for over a year now and to be honest, it's a bit overwhelming. There's so many of them! lol

I'd never consider cosmetic surgery personally.
But I do just want to point out that after losing 120 pounds, my upper arms and legs were quite saggy. It's not 100% fixed or anything, but I am truly amazed at the improvement I've seen from strength training- arms especially. And I'm talking about the difference I've seen over a few months- not years. I'm really excited to see how my arms will look after a year or two at my lower weight. Just pointing this out because it might be worthwhile to do some strength training and give it some time. What do you have to lose, really? You could still opt for the surgery down the road if the improvements don't satisfy you, or you could end up saving yourself a lot of pain and money.

This is an interesting thread, and I see both points. But, I've known from day one, the moment I began my journey after letting myself get so heavy, I knew I'd have to consider plastic surgery at some point.
I've honestly made a list of what I know I'll want done. I will want a tummy tuck, an arm and breast lift. I'm not ashamed of having scars... I think they make for interesting stories. I don't know, maybe I'm just weird?? All I know is that this is something I will have to discuss with my soon to be fiance. I think he should know what I want, and know that there are risks with it, just like any other form of surgery and that, depending on the surgery I get first (once I hit and maintain my goal weight for at least six months, including major holidays) that he may have to take care of me for a short period of time.
I all ready call my arms elephant ears. =( And I still have 95lbs left to loose (for ultimate goal).

re arm lifts (brachioplasty)
Good evening-1st time on-I had my arms (fat cut off) then they stapled-the marks took a long time to fade-if you can do weights-then keep them tanned this helps-wear a cap sleeve-maybe a long scarf or necklace keep eye off arm.
I was in my 50's & caught a bug in the hospital so it was scary-as I have gone on- have a big smile people will not even notice-learning to accept yourself & not try tobe how people want you to be-a lot of weight is in the genes-I am partNative American Indian (which was kept from me) it would have made so much difference if I knew my ancestery-all the best Tiah Fawn hey we are really nice people
