I'm a second time around on Atkins too. On Tuesday, it will be one year to lose roughly 50 pounds - so an average of 1 pound per week. The last time I did Atkins was 10 year ago and I lost 50 pounds from January to end of May. It is much slower this time so it takes a lot of patience!! But I am much more committed to this change!! I'm 48. Best wishes on your journey!!

I'm in my 40s and like lulu I lost faster the first time I did low carb, and this time it's working but slower. I am also having to keep a lid on total calories in addition to carbs, I suspect due to a slowing metabolism

KAT welcome! Atkins has always worked for me. Maybe it was easier when I was younger as I moved alot more and was more active (so exercise is a good thing.. but not required to lose weight... but helps to tone and create a better looking body). I do walk 10 miles a week now and am losing about a lb a week. I would be losing more if I was more strict with my food (slipping alittle slows the loss down)... I am an old lady (LOL NOT!) of 55 and have lost 78 lbs in 1 year (Anniversary is the 6th)... So any age.. you can lose, maintain and live eating this way!

I think if you believe it will work for you.. well then you will work it and it will! That is my belief!

I've been doing it off and on for several years, always worked for me and I"m mid-40s. The doc just told me sister to do low carb and she's mid-50s...I read somewhere that 2/3 of the population is genetically programed to lose weight and lower cholesterol on low carb/high fat. The only thing you have to believe in is yourself....

began low carb 12/29/13 - had done it for a shorter time 10 or so years previously. Lost 50 lbs in 7 months. Have a nut problem and have only lost another 5 lbs since though still eating no bread, starchy veggies - I do eat about 2 -2.5 servings of fruit a day. The real reason I have slowed down is the nuts. Also I seem to gain and lose the same 3 lbs every week - thinking it is water weight. Still have 35 lbs to go. Not gonna give up this time

Like others in this thread I have attempt Atkins in the past, lost a great deal of weight, and have come back after gaining some of it back. I lost 80 lbs several years ago and have binge eaten my weight back up 30 lbs.

I am 40, I have been told that as you age you drop the weight slower. I also know from my own experience, you do not drop pounds as fast the second time around..it becomes harder but can work. Atkins is easy to follow if you can control yourself and eat the healthy foods that are allowed.

The reports on Atkins, ignore them. I have gotten to the point where I look at msyelf and say Atkins improved my life, lost weight, got health, exercised, didn't suffer from depression, and had a healthy relationship with food. A couple years of not following Atkins, weight is up 30 lbs, I am not exercising, not eating enough healthy veggies, not drinking water, and depressed. I also am just run down, sicker more often, and no energy. I know Atkins works, its just been so terribly difficult for me to stick to ANY eating plan lately without binge eating. I

I know we all want to drop it fast - but I think of it this way - we are doing this the healthy way and making changes we can keep for a life time. I did Ideal Protein and lost 75 pounds in 4 months - and have struggled for a year to stay on the program and keep losing more because it is not a program you can follow long term. So... this way I know I am eating like I will for the rest of my life and will keep it off. I am 45.

Couple things you can do to increase your metabolism that are easy.... Two cups of green tea daily, and sriracha hot sauce. Another thing try to avoid the Atkins brand snacks and stuff if you are have no weight loss and are eating those because they have so many sugar alcohols. Another thing as we get older we have to work harder to lose. The first time I was on Atkins I dropped 50 lbs in three months now that I am over 30 and doing it I just need to increase my activities and do the other things I have mentioned. Hope that helps!

I was very discouraged because of a 2 pounds gain....but Im not giving up. Reading your posts have motivated me a lot and I think I should try to believe in myself more. I lack that. Maybe I had super expectations. Also Im super stressed (cortisol too increases wt\) but have started walking to bust the stress. Whatever it takes! thanks all of you. hope you guys have a super weekend.
ps Brooklyn:: Im drinking green tea too. relaxing
