Default Atkins cold remedies? :(

Can't have my usual buttered toast with honey tea :'(

Any ideas? Salad's not much of a comfort food :/

Celestial seasonings makes a honey chamomile tea that has the taste of honey but with no sugar, no sweeteners.

Hard to replace toast, however...

You can have lots of chicken soup just no noodles (and be careful of packaged ones, some contain sugars).

Chicken soup, for sure. You can also make "noodles" for it with egg whites cooked in a non-stick pan and then cut into strips. Throw in some spinach for colour and some veggies.

Toasted revolution rolls with butter would be the closest buttered toast substitute.

I'm sick right now, too. I'm sure you're better by now, but people googling, and maybe you next time you get sick (God forbid) might like this instead of toast.

I came upon it when browsing. It can either be used as bread, or in my personal favorite, PANCAKES. (yeah, i said it.)

4 tablespoons flaxseed meal, or you can grind flax seeds yourself
1 egg
1/2 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt
cinnamon (if you like sweeter pancakes, but it does raise the carb count)
2 tablespoons butter (or water if you prefer, olive oil works, too)

For bread, I hear 2 minutes in the microwave.
For pancakes, grease up the pan and get to cookin'! I like them better crispy, personally, but you know your preference!

This recipe is good anytime, Dr. Atkins states if you need extra fiber you can add psyllium husks OR Flax seeds (2 tbsp recommended by him) so if you're on induction and want to remain strict it's still okay, but i'd cut the recipe in half, or save half in the freezer. I'd recommend a re-fry to crisp it up. (I've never had any problems stalling from this though in induction)

Hope you got better soon!

I've been making my own chicken stock, every week or so. I save any chicken bones I have, in the freezer (sometimes beef if I happen to have those) and use my crock pot to make it. It sounds gross to some people, but I found some chicken feet at Walmart and those made an awesome stock. It gelled up and everything. It's comforting and there are lots of nutrients in it.
