Newbie to Atkins

  • Hi all,

I was going to do the Dukan diet but after watching the documentary Fat Head (funny and informative) I decided Atkins would be better for me. So here I am on Day 3 of Induction. I did slip up a little yesterday but I'm more motivated than ever now and I didn't want to start over but just keep moving forward.

This is my first serious attempt at Atkins. I have the old book and the new one that just came out, so I'm reading through that now. The one thing I have found is that planning is super important. I'm going to shop tonight and this weekend I'll spend some time cooking up lots of food and portioning it out in containers (some for fridge some for freezer). I have to head myself off at the pass because if I get too hungry I will eat anything and LOTS of it!
  • Hi and welcome!

I like the saying that goes "if you fail to plan you plan to fail" so shopping is important but even more so is cleaning out your kitchen of any trigger foods or binge foods. The first time I started a LC diet I didn't do that because I have a son who I cook for too and that is the primary reason why I failed. When there is a box of cereal you can bet I will binge on it. Now if my son wants to eat the foods that I don't keep around he goes and obtains them himself and keeps them in his room. Although, he had chips in the kitchen the other day and I was not even tempted.

good luck and check in often because support is a huge piece of the success puzzle.
  • Good luck with Atkins. When I am able to lose weight, it's always with Atkins/Low Carb.
  • welcome and good luck everdeen..

I have to agree with ghost on planning and having a plan..it is the key to my success and also having a support system like this forum
  • Welcome and good luck to you everdeen, this is an awesome place for all kinds of support!
  • Thank you!

Great quote on planning. Cereal became a snack food for me -- I'd take a little snack sized bowl of Golden Grahams and just nosh on that (sugar much? LOL) I looked in the cupboard and realized that almost everything in it (save for some cans of tuna) are packed with sugar. Rice, noodles, crackers etc. I'm cleaning it out today. Same with the fridge -- I am taking out the sodas and sweetened teas I would drink like crazy and replacing that with water.

We bought a food scale yesterday which is something I've wanted for a while. It's fun to use and hopefully I can get a better sense of portion size.
