Two Questions
Hey everyone...I have a couple questions. The first one is about something that baffles me. Why is it that it takes a couple weeks to lose 7lbs, but if you drink a bottle of Bacardi and diet Coke and eat a bunch of carbs within a 24 hour period you can gain 7lbs back? OK, this one was kind of poking fun at myself and offering a confession for misbehaving this past weekend.
The question I have is regarding a veggie that I've started eating. I forget its name (i'll check for it later), but it's a type of bean/pea. In a 1/2 cup serving it contains 3g of carbs and 6g of fiber. So, this gives me -3g of net carbs, right? Can you take these negative carbs and use them towards your daily count?
Thanks!

For the love of lard, PLEASE tell me what that bean is! LOL But seriously, I would say yes. If you were adding it to say, a soup, it's fiber would be taken off, so it should tally in at negative the same way anything other fiber would. However, I wouldn't abuse it! And you didn't really 'gain' 7lbs. It's water. You see, alcohol may 'slow you down' but you won't gain as long as you keep hydrated (unless you drank a LOT). However, the carbs you ate are now sitting in your gut and have absorbed an INSANE amount of water. Think of putting a piece of bread in water. Yeah.... same as in your gut. But you can put a piece of steak and some veggies in that water and nada. So, until your system gets that out, you're going to appear to have gained weight when in reality, it's just bloated yuckiness. Just get back on the wagon, and it will be gone before you know it! However, you may go through withdrawal again!

About the weight gain, I kinda knew that...I just find it strange to be able to gain so fast.
The veggie is called "edamame". I never heard of it before, but they are sold in the frozen veggie section here. 110cal, 9g fat, 0 chol, 0 sod, 3G carbs, 9g fibre, 2g sugar, 10g protein in an 85g serving.

Ha! Imagine that...goes to show I don't know my veggies as well as I should. Just carrots, potatoes and lettuce...lol. Thanks for the clarification!

LOL That's ok! I had NO idea what they were at first either! I don't eat much soy other than soy sauce -- soy tends to give my hubby a headache so we don't use it much. Although, I do make bread in my breadmachine that requires it. So, when I move up to maintenance, I'll be able to have bread. Not sure if I will eat the beans or not, but I may once in a while for a treat.

SaskNewfie - I'm just in awe that you can drink while low carbing! Awhile back I had a wee glass of Absolute on the rocks and staggered around like a sailor on leave. I've never been a huge drinker (discounting college, of course) but I used to be able to put away a couple drinks on occasion. Not anymore - I think my body screams, "some form of potato has entered" and sends the whole lot straight to my head!

HA! Me too! My BF likes to comment on what a "cheap date" I am now.

Well, my tolerance isn't as it was a year ago, that's for sure. The problem is, in my head I'm still able to drink as I could a year ago...lol...that's where I fail. I can't handle a full bottle of Bacardi like I used to! The fact that I normally drink beer doesn't help either.
Anyway, it took 5 days but I finally lost what took me 24 hours to gain. As for the soy beans, I have grown to enjoy them and their acquired taste...lol.

I love Edamame, but are you all eating this on Atkins? I haven't, but would love to.

I assume it's ok...at least according the nutritional info on the package it looks ok.

Depends on what stage you are at in Atkins... if you're following to the letter. Edamame is a legume and is not an Induction food. It can be added back in to your diet as you progress.
Also, there is no such thing as a negative carb food... Not sure how your package is stating that. It's impossible. Are Canadian food labeling laws like European ones (and not like American ones)? In the U.S., we have total carbs and total fiber listed separately, and we have to subtract fiber from carbs to get net carbs. In Europe (and maybe Canada?), what is listed as carbs is already NET carbs, with the fiber subtracted.

Here's the product that I've been eating:
http://www.superstore.ca/LCLOnline/p...Id=prod1140001
It's strange, I've read and re-read the info on the packaging that is in my fridge...all 4 bags...and they all say 3g of carbs and 6g of fibre. I guess I now have to 2nd guess nutritional labels...lol.
