Question about meals

  • I usually eat 3 meals and a snack. However, today I've only needed breakfast and dinner. Do you eat a meal even if not hungry? I don't like eating when I'm not hungry so thought I would as you guys. Thanks in advance for your advice.
  • One of the Atkins books, I think it's a 2002 edition, advises that we not go longer than six hours without eating - except for when we're sleeping, of course. I usually have a small protein/fat snack even if I'm not particularly hungry. This is probably best answered by Jersey Gyrl.
  • Sandy You are right. I remember reading that just last week now that you mentioned it. I don't like eating when I'm not hungry, but I can see why it would be important to eat. Thanks
  • I usually am not hungry in the evening. However, I try to eat something small just to say I have eaten. I found a really great recipe here for crustless quiche. I modified with my own ingredients (celery, jalepeno peppers, ect). These are made as individual servings in a muffin pan. They are PERFECT for that little something in the evening for ME. They are 1 carb and taste really awesome.
  • Crustless quiche? MMMM!

You guys are going to have me cooking more!
  • Trish,
The most important thing is to keep your blood sugar stable. Skipping meals can be bad news for anyone with blood sugar issues.
  • Thanks you JerseyGyrl and everyone else for the advice. I remember reading these things... some in the books and other places, but had forgotten. Guess that is why we need the group. I realize the necessity of diabetics eating regularly and often to keep blood sugar stable. After all these years of hearing people saying not to eat is so stuck in my mind and now I'm having to learn to eat and to eat more often, it is such a turn around.

I changed the scheduling of my meals and making them mini-meals approx 4 hours apart. I think that was what I was doing when the blood sugar was coming down to normal. It suddenly dawned on me this morning that eating 3 meals and a snack and eating only when hungry is probably why I'm not getting the blood sugar back down and keeping it there since I came back to Atkins. I knew it worked for me for 3 months and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. This is why we need each other and why I appreciate having the threads at 3fc.

I appreciate each and everyone of you and your help.
  • If you dont eat you will know
When your blood sugar drops on this diet you FEEL it. I pack food to work and eat befour I leave for work, but sometimes I need to run errans befour I make it home, and its not a good thing. I feel light headed and tired, my husband can look at me and say do you need to eat? Usually I do but if you can have a second snack, you dont want to feel that way.
