new atkins vs old atkins

  • Does anyone know the difference between the new diet revolution and the original?

    Thanks!
  • Basically, Atkins 72 (original Atkins) Phase 1....is 0 carbs to get your body into quick ketosis. Two small salads a day with oil & vinegar are permitted on phase 1....but....veggies are not, they are not added till phase 2. On Atkins 72, you count ALL carbs...not net carbs. Eat as much as you need of allowed foods to avoid hunger, do not count calories, do not eat when you are not hungry, drink as much water or calorie-free beverages as thirst requires...do not force liquids but, do not restrict them either.
The "new" Atkins....is 20 net carbs per day (total carbs minus dietary fiber). Salads & veggies are strongly encouraged....12-15 of your 20 net carbs should be coming from salads & veggies. Drink at least eight 8 oz. glasses of water per day. Calorie-free diet drinks such as soda's (made with Splenda), as well as decaf coffee are ok...but, should be consumed in addition to the recommended 64 oz of water a day (they do not count as water).
Those are the basic differences in Atkins 72 & the New Atkins. So....its basically 0 carb vs. 20 net carbs per day. No veggies vs. veggies.
My advice would be reading both books....Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution (Atkins 72) & Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolutions (2002 & prior additions) and decide which plan you believe will work for you & your lifestyle.
    All the best to you!!
  • JerseyGrl, does 20 Net vs. 20 Carbs total make a difference in how fast one goes into ketosis? How long does it take one to go into ketosis?
  • Thanks for all of your advice jerseygyrl!
