Hi Ladies -- I'm hoping to get in some WATP with all of you during December, but I'm not setting any certain goal, because I still don't know what I can handle. I'm still just having a down time and the holidays are a very hard time right now.:( All of you are doing so good -- GREAT JOB!!!;)

Michelle, keep on trying. Never give up and remember the exercising does help with the moods. Also, you might want to try a light therapy during this time of the year since we're having gray, icky days. I'm sure that isn't helping with dealing with your loss. I have an Apollo Go-Lite and I swear by it during the dark months. Between it and exercising, I've totally gotten of all psychiatric drugs.

I did 1 mile walk, 2 miles jogging and the walk and kick before work. I'm going through a "I don't feel like it" period. I still push myself but I wish it would let up. It started at the beginning of the week and is still hard to get up. It might be a side effect of having a 5 day break over Thanksgiving and now I have to get up early again. Oh well, two more weeks and it's Christmas vacation. Then I get 2 weeks off. I am SO looking forward to that!!!!

Good evening, everyone! Today I became the parent of a teenage girl!!! I'm not quite sure where 13 years went, but it sure flew! I CAN'T be old enough to have a child who's 13!!!

Anyway.....This evening I did the 2 mile abs workout. Tomorrow, I will do another 2 or 3 miles AND some shopping. Sunday will probably be more of the same! It's a never-ending cycle with me in December. We live 40 minutes from a major town, so I can't go after work very easily. So I spend every weekend in December shopping!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend! Think kind thoughts for me!

Michele, for me to really find a town for shopping, I have to drive 77 miles (over a snowy mountain pass) so I do it about 2X during the season. Next Saturday is the 2nd trip. I'm mostly done but we changed what we're ging DH so my gift is going to be saved for his birthday or our anniversary (a new wedding band since he lost his about 21 years ago at the laundry mat). We're (myself, both DSs and DGS's mom) going to get him the expensive winch at Costco. But he will really like it. Yesterday DH and I bought a plow for our Durango because DH's heart problem has made snow shoveling too hard as he's gotten older. After Tuesday's shoveling of out hilly driveway, he said enough. It's being shipped on Monday. Eeks $1400 at Christmas time was a bit off the budget but well worth it if it keeps him healthy. Now he'll just have to shovel the front walk and it's short.

Okay, back to the exercise topic - I jogged 3 miles this morning with Leslie. This afternoon I will take Blizzie out for her walk. In 2.5 hours donkey dog (Kody) and I start school for teaching him how to walk on a leash. It's a doggie day.

Michele, wish your daughter happy birthday from us!!!

Hi Ladies -- I just wanted to say that we're so happy, because my younger DD received her acceptance letter in the mail today for her first choice college that we did the tour at last month. She was accepted in their Nursing program for Fall 2007, and there are only about 100 people that they accept each year for the Nursing program. This college is a private Catholic college, and it's so nice. She has taken all AP and Honors classes throughout high school, and her gpa right now is 3.94, and we're so proud of her. She is also on her fourth year of Spanish in high school, and she's going to keep taking it through college also. I just wanted to share this with everyone!:D

Congratulations to your daughter, Michelle!

I was shopping ALL day today and came home with very little. Then, I changed into my workout clothes and did the 2 mile with the 2 pound soft weights! I'm sitting at almost 14000 steps! Hopefully, tomorrow will be more fruitful as far as the gift shopping is concerned! I'll check the ads in the morning and then head out around lunchtime. Hopefully, I'll be home for supper (we had Subway and Arby's today--uh-oh!)

Have a great remainder of the weekend!

Thank you Marie & Michele for the kind words! We are so happy for her too! Michele, I don't envy you with the Christmas shopping. I went out the two days after Thanksgiving and got all but two gifts bought, and they're all wrapped. Last year I waited to finish until right before Christmas, and it was horrible, so I got an early start this year.:p

Morning chickie walkers. I rode the exercycle 6 miles this morning and will take the doggies walking for a couple miles later this afternoon. Kodiak did great at the private training yesterday. Afterwards we walked the 2 mile block and he didn't pull me at all. Just a couple corrections but that was it. It was SO nice. We're going to have another training on the 18th.

We're taking DGX to see Santa at the base (military) children's Christmas party. Unless of course DS and his GF don't get ready soon. For now I've been doing work from home and watching the Vikings and Packers get demolished by their oppenents.

Good evening, all! After another FULL day of shopping, I should be tired, but I still did the 2 mile Express tonight! Had hoped for a longer workout sometime this weekend, but shopping took more of my time than I had wanted. We made some progress, but I'm still nowhere near done!

Hope everyone has had a great weekend!

Hi guys, Exercise has been sporadic so far this month.
13 minutes at lunch on Friday
35 minutes (2 miles) at the walking track yesterday.

Today was a day off.

Michelle, Congrats to your DD. Yes, you guys certainly need some good news now.

I haven't started my Christmas shopping yet. I have got to get in gear very quickly. I'm going to try to do some online shopping either Monday or Tuesday night. (just 3 weeks til Christmas :o )

Good morning, walkers! I got my rear in gear and did the 3 mile abs workout from the 5 mile DVD this morning! Hoping for another mile or 2, but I have a Spain meeting tonight, so I'm not sure if/when it could happen.

Keep walking!

Marie

Hi everyone, I jogged 3 miles and walked 2 before work. BTW, I was up to 127 miles of walk/jog in November. Not bad for a month with foot surgery. There were 10 miles of cycling too. Too bad I didn't lose any weight with it. I'm definitely at a plateau. But as long as I'm not gaining, I'm a happy camper.

Michele - Wonderful news :carrot: :carrot: - that's an awesome loss. Especially during the holidays. :)

I did 3 jogging, 2 walking this morning. Not much variety for me at this point. I really preferred sleeping but still did it. I did do a 1.5 mile walk after work yesterday so it was a 6.5 mile day yesterday. Perhaps that's why I wasn't too interested this morning. :?: :?: :?:

Hi Ladies...Today my baby turned 18 so we all went with her and she got her first tattoo, and then we went out for dinner at Red Robin. On Thursday, I have an appointment with the doctor that did my hysterectomy last year. Starting at the beginning of this year, I would have pain every now and then where my right ovary is, the only thing she left in. This summer it has gotten very painful a few times, but has gone away until yesterday. I was in so much pain yesterday that a couple of times I even doubled over and just moaned. She has also ordered an ultra sound, and I'm dreading that for sure! I've been putting this off, because if I have to have my other ovary removed, I will then have to be on hormone pills, and that's something that I don't want. We shall see what shows up on the test and what she has to say, but I'm a little nervous about it. I have really put this off for awhile now, but my daughter got very upset with me yesterday, because she said what if I might have ovary cancer, or something else, and she started crying, so I immediately got on the phone for an appointment.:(

Michele L
12-06-2006, 08:56 AM
Michelle, sweetie, you're in my thoughts and prayers! I went through a nervous time just before Thanksgiving when they called me in for a follow-up mammorgram on BOTH breasts. In the end, it was OK and I'm sure it will be for you with your situation! Just keep thinking good thoughts and we will do the same! Hang in there!

This morning I did the 30 Minute Walk! I forget how powerful "The Nancy" is until I do it again! My legs sure are feeling that workout!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Michelle, my thouhts are with you. Waitining until tomorrow has to be so hard. I'm proud of you for calling the dr. so quick yesterday.

Michele, can you describe the Nancy? I have about 5 or 6 of the DVDs and it's not any of them and none of the moves on all of them is very hard.

I did 6 miles on the exercycle and today is my leave early and take the doggies on a walk day so there will be another 2 miles of walking. I loved the bike this morning because it's by the Christmas tree. So I turned the tree on and that was the only light in the room as I pedalled and listened to an audio book. I might do that a bit more often. Maybe that will ge me out of the dread of exercising I've felt the last 10 days. I never give into the dread but it's still there.

TTYL.

Marie, "The Nancy" is a quadruple knee-lift from a wide stance. She sometimes does "bring your knees toward your middle while standing with feet apart" and even does doubles, but this is the only one where she does 4 per side at a time. Nancy is in this video and Leslie jokes that this one is for Nancy who loves a challenge!

I rode the exercycle for 10 miles this morning. I love being by the Christmas tree. So that's my exercise for December. Listening to an audiobook while enjoying the tree in the peaceful early am hours. I didn't dread it this morning so I think that will be a good break from walking. I'm going to have to do a couple miles jogging every other day or so to keep that stamina up. I'll mix the two together.

Good morning! I needed a short workout, so I did the 1 mile Express this morning. I don't know if I'll get more in tonight, but I'll try. DD has an away basketball game, so we have to be ready to go get her when she calls. DS wants to attend his first school dance (he's in 5th grade!) and we have to work out the logistics, since his school is in another town.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Wow Michele, 5th grade dance??? I must be getting old - I didn't know they started that young. I hope he has a great time.

I did 3 miles jogging and 2 miles walking this morning. I really wanted to do 10 miles on the exercycle so I could listen to my audiobook (I'm listening to Dear John by Nicholas Sparks) and to gaze at the Christmas tree, but I knew I needed to keep jogging every few days.

Tammy -- I just had to say that I noticed you lost quite a bit more weight --CONGRATULATIONS and GREAT job!!! You're such an inspiration!!!;) :carrot:

I copied this from my email, but wanted to let all of you know what I found out from my doctor appointment. Thank you everyone for your concerns and prayers! My doctor said that the ultrasound showed my ovary looked really good and nothing wrong with it then. She said the horrible pain I've had off and on could have been cysts that I've had, but when they rupture, then the pain goes away. She said that the horrible pain I had on Monday, and then that it just all the sudden went away, could have been a cyst that had burst, and it wouldn't show up in the ultrasound unless it hadn't burst yet. She said she will still do surgery on me to remove the ovary if I want to, it's my choice. She said cysts can keep coming and going. She's so booked up that she cannot even do surgery until Feb or March, so I can always change my mind if I decide to, but I would have to be on hormone pills after surgery. Also, she said the surgery isn't done vaginally, but she first tries to go through where she inserts the camera lapriscopically?? and if that won't work, she would then have to make an incision through my abdomen, which is still a very long healing process of atleast 4-6 weeks. I've got times to think about it, but when the pain does come, it's absolutely horrible!

Well, as it turned out, the dance is NEXT Friday! It's more of a holiday party than a true dance, but that's what they call it. They'll have a DJ, but they will do four corners, limbo and other games. It's for the entire elementary (preschool thru 5th grade), so it's got to have LOTS of activities.

Today, I was shopping ALL day with my daughter. We found a few things, so I'm closer to being done. This evening, my son is having a sleepover and I spent part of the evening on my treadmill. I did 30 minutes at a rather slow pace, but bumping up the incline every minute til I reached 8%. Then I started back down. All in all I did 1.5 miles.

Tomorrow is my daughter's holiday recital at 2 and 7pm. My parents are coming up for the 2pm show. In between things I have to make treats for my advisor group at school AND fit in a walk!

Hope your weekend is going well!

Hi ladies,

I did the 5 mile DVD this morning (70 minutes). I'm playing catch up, as I took the day off yesterday to get some Christmas shopping done.

Marie, Can you describe the one mile jog DVD to me? I've tried the Walk and Jog dvd, so I'm guessing it is somewhat similar. I found then that doing the leg swing out thing (name?) while jogging was difficult. Is that a major movement in the one mile jog? If so, did it get easier for you as you continued? I'm considering getting it but wanted an opinion on it. Also, what software do you use to edit your dvds?

Michele, Good luck staying away from the baked goodies.

Michelle, Thanks for noticing the few more pounds gone. :) I'm so glad you went to the doctor to find out what's going on.

Hi Curlygrrl  You're doing great as always!

I'm new to the board. . . I am currently using WATP Super Fat Burning 3 mile Walk . . . I do it on Mon, Wed, Fri . . . I would like to eventually move to the 5 mile dvd and also the jogging . . . does anyone have any info about the 1 mile jog dvd. . . I'd love to hear what you think of it!

Marie
12-11-2006, 01:18 PM
sistahmaryisis, I posted a little on the other thread on the jogging but to answer Tammy's and your questions about the jogging DVD, it's too short as it is. It was good for the first few times but then my body got used to the jogging continually and 1 miles was too short, so I started video editing.

The DVD as it is is about 3-4 minutes of a warm up walk, then 9 minutes of jogging then about 1-2 minutes of cool down. The leg swings aren't great. I do them for the variety and it doesn't hurt in the leat, just awkward. You can choose to jog instead (as Leslie suggests if you don't find them comfy). The leg lifts and the kicks are kick and pretty easy. Not a lot of arm work (okay very little) but I hold 1 pound weights to help and I use the arm/jogging position.

I use Magic DVD Ripper and Video Redo (both shareware - downloadable with a free trial version) to edit my DVDs. I made the 1st mile the warmup and jogging, then the 2nd mile just the jogging and then the last mile the jogging and cool down. That way I wasn't walking in the middle and I didn't have to push the remote to get to where I wanted to be.

Then after all that... I exercycled 10 miles this morning. I did jog yesterday morning before walking with the doggies.

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've been around. A bit over a month to be exact. My last workout was on November 6th which was the day my bil passed away. I was swamped after he died, but then even when things settled down I just couldn't get myself back into working out. Finally figured out I think I was associating working out with his death :( I hadn't been able to workout much the two weeks prior to his death because of farming. November 6th was the first day I was able to work out again and then he died that night. It was just hard to not associate a workout with thinking about the day he died. I know that won't go away for a while...if ever really. But I told myself if I could just make it through last week when I had tons of appointments to make I would start working out again this week. So....here I am :) I'll start out slow because I'm still busy with Christmas looming but I'm going to work out as much as possible and then kick things up come January.

Today I did the 1 mile evening walk.

Michelle

KAREN...I'm so happy to see you back. My mom's death was in October, and I still haven't been able to get back into the routine fully yet. Just don't rush yourself, or listen to any comments you may get from people that think there should be a time limit on grieving. You will get back on track again when you're fully ready, and that's perfectly fine. I'm having a very hard time getting into the holidays this year. I hope you have a wonderful day.

hoosiermomto3
12-11-2006, 06:51 PM
Thank you Michelle. The holidays are very hard. I think what's kept me going is the kids. And my bil loved his nieces and nephews so much. He didn't have kids of his own so he'd want things to go on as normally as possible. I hope you can find some warm memories of your mom to help ease things just a tiny, tiny bit. The first couple of years of anniversaries and holidays are really difficult after a loss.

Marie
12-11-2006, 09:44 PM
Welcome back Karen. I definitely agree with Michelle - don't let anyone tell you a timeline or how you feel. How you feel is how you feel - not how they feel. I'm betting you BIL is so proud of the changes you made with the weightloss so far and wants you to continue. But do it in your own sweet time because the last thing you need is to hate working out. You'd never make it all the way back.

I'm wishing you both (Karen and Michelle) a peaceful holiday season during your mourning.

Welcome sistahmaryisis from a fellow Mississippian!

Karen, welcome back. I'm glad you're feeling up to joining us again. I agree with everyone, just do what you feel ready to do. We'll be here as you feel ready.

Michelle  It's good to see you around sweetie. How's it going with you?

I was a little lazy today. I did a mile from the 5 mile dvd and some resistance training this morning (20 minutes), then did a Cathe Friedrich stretching video that I recorded from fittv (22 minutes). I've recorded some of her weight training episodes and the one this morning just happened to be a stretching one, and it's okay. Not a great fat-burning session, but something to help with flexibility instead.

Have a great night.

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome back  Did another short workout today. The muscle mile one. Didn't use any weights. I can't believe how much I can feel just yesterday's workout in my hips!! Not bad or uncomfortable, just can feel the muscles got worked yesterday as I'm doing the workout today. Don't ever let anyone tell you WATP isn't a good workout! LOL

Marie

Karen, occasionally I've thought that the workouts weren't "work-outs" but then I do something else for a while and I realize that they are. Your body just gets used to them. Glad to see you went for a nother workout (and that your 5 miler works). :)

I did another 10 miles on the exercycle. I think that I'll burn out on that eventually, but it's so peaceful pedalling in the dark next to the twinkling lights on the Christmas tree. Doesn't hurt that i'm almost done listening to Dear John (Nicholas Sparks) and I want to hear the rest. I should actually be done this evening.

hi JTammy . . . good to see another Mississippian on board for weightloss I get tired of hearing how we are the "fat" state! I did my WATP Super Fat Burning 3 mile yesterday without the weights (I use 3lb handhelds sometimes). I have a question for those who use weights on WATP . . . do you use them on your rest days after strenght training or do you just go through the motions on days like that. I was wondering if it were too much of a strain to do weightraining one day then do WATP with light weights the next. What do you guys think?

Well, my energy is getting sapped by DH, who is snoring worse than ever before due to a cold! I nudge and push at him off and on all night, which disrupts MY sleep. Then in the morning, I just DON'T want to get up. That means my workout is at the end of the day, which generally means it is shorter!

Last night I only managed to do the 1 mile with 2 pound weights. This morning, I just couldn't get up, so I'll have to make the time for something later.

Sorry to vent!

Hi ladies,

After taking off from exercise for two days, I'm back on board. I just really felt like I needed to catch up on sleep and I'm better for it now. I did the two fast miles from the 5 mile DVD, and some stretching afterwards - 25 minutes.

Sistah - At least you and I are doing our part to remove MS from the "fattest state" designation. I usually continue to use the weights when walking, although if UB is particularly sore, I may back down to the 2 lb weights.

Edited to add: ten minutes on the power rider tonight.

Good morning! This morning I did the 3 mile Abs workout! It's been awhile since I did more than 1 or 2 miles, so it was harder, but felt GREAT!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Yesterday I did Walk Away The Pounds Super Fat Burning 3 miles starting at the weights . . .going to the end . . . the reason I only did some of it was because my TurboJam set was delivered yesterday and I did the Learn and Burn Portion of it which was 25 minutes. . .also the 20 minute workout and 10 minutes of the standing ab work . . . Who knew I'd ever WANT to do this much exercising . . .

I did 3 miles jogging and 2 miles walking this morning before work. Tonight is wrap the out of town gifts and get them packaged to mail.

Yesterday's rain walk with the dogs was okay. I stayed warm and dry but the moisture in the cold (about 43 degree) air made my teeth cold for most of the night. Too bad my doggies don't want to join me with WATP. Maybet hat should be Leslie's next project - WATP with your dog...

This morning I only had time for the Booster Mile with 2 pound weights. Tonight is DD's slumber party for her 13th birthday. We are staying at a nearby hotel with a pool and there are 6 teenage girls! Hubby, son and I will be in the adjoining room. Think good thoughts!

Oh Michele, that doesn't sound fun. Nope, no way. So my thoughts are sent your way.

Wow Tammy, you have lost so much weight. How absolutely fantastic!!! Are you losing during the holiday season? I'm at my obnoxious plateau (for 6 weeks straight but it's getting hard with the parties and such. Now I'm thankful for maintaining but Jan. 2, the plateau will break. I do consider not gaining a big success. But I am a tad envious of your amazing losing streak.

BTW, I did the 3 miles jogging and 2 miles walking again today. Tomorrow will be a 6 mile exercycle ride and a walk with the doggies.

But even better will be on Sunday, DH and a couple friends and I are going to Crater Lake to go snowshoeing. My endurance should be much better than last year. :D :carrot: By the my avatar is a picture of Crater Lake last June.

Yesterday was a day off. Today I didn't feel like exercising at all, but I did. Did the 2 mile express and used the stretchie band. I did it, which I'm happy about, but it was tough getting through. I have been having troubles sleeping the last couple of nights. I had a really weird, disturbing dream about my BIL so last night no matter how exhausted I was I couldn't force myself to go to bed and close my eyes. Finally took some tylenol simply sleep. Had to take those 2 nights right after he died. They helped me sleep w/o having a dream again, but I think it was too late when I took them since I couldn't sleep in this morning, now I'm kind of dragging. DH has to work tonight so I may just try taking them a bit before I put the kids to bed tonight rather than struggle with not being able to sleep again.

KAREN...I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Sometimes I have some very realy dreams about my mom, and some of them are crazy and make no sense to me.:(

I haven't been here, because I just feel very bad since I still haven't been exercising. This holiday season is so hard for me right now, and tomorrow we still need to get out and finish the shopping for the last couple of gifts. I started not feeling very well early last night, and I was up most of the night sick, I guess with a flu bug. When I weighed myself, I have lost four pounds, but I'm not changing my ticker, because I know it's from being sick and isn't my true weight. My hubby is on his way to Kaiser, because he thinks he broke his left middle finger. Tonight we have his department's Christmas dinner to go to so I will be making my homemade chocolate chip cookies and cheese augratin potatoes today. I hope all of you have a wonderful day!

After a rather short night and a day full of Christmas shopping, I still managed to do 25 minutes on the treadmill this evening!

The party was very nice and my daughter and her friends had a good time! They swam and ate pizza early in the evening. Later on, after cake and gifts, they watched movies ALL night! She finally admitted that they DID fall asleep at about 5am, but only for about 2 hours, cause we heard them around 7 again! All in all, a successful party! I'm glad it's over!!!!

Have a great weekend!

Hugs to both of you, Karen and Michelle. Definitely don't feel like you have to exercise to visit. You are are friends and we care about you.

Michele, I'm impressed that you had that party for your daughter. Eeks, I couldn't have done it.

I did 6 miles on the exercycle this morning then walked about 3 miles later on (2 with the doggies and 1 going to the Winter Lights display at our town's lakeside park - it was awesome).

Michelle  I agree, don't feel like you can't or shouldn't post because you aren't exercising regularly. That will come back in time. But you do need any and all support that you can get and an ear to listen sometimes. Let the ladies here be that for you if you need them.

I did the 2 fastest miles from the 5 mile DVD this morning. Whewee that was tough! I had hoped to do the 3 mile with hand weights, but I was shot after the 2 fastest miles so decided to just call that my workout. I know I'll get back to being able to do all 5 miles soon enough. Don't want to push myself so hard that I'm exhausted and find excuses not to exercise! I've exercised 6 out of the last 7 days so I'm pretty happy with that re-start. Now to just keep it going.

Off to bake cinnamon rolls. That's always been a bit of a tradition. I make cinnamon rolls and put them in the freezer and that's our Christmas morning breakfast. I haven't felt like doing much of anything so there's been no baking or anything like normal at this time of year. But my boys (13 and 8) have asked when I was going to make cinnamon rolls. So the dough is rising and I'll get them made so at least that part of Christmas can remain the same for them.
Michele], glad you survived the party. Sounds like a blast!!

Hi ladies,

Michelle, Karen and Marie are so right. Please drop in whether you are exercising or not. We care about you, and want to support you whether you're ready to start exercising again or not.

The last few week have been crazy/hectic at work and at home. I have finally been able to hire a full-time computer technician, so in the long run, I know that will help my work load, but in the short-term, there is a lot of training that has to go on. Plus I have about 6 big projects in the works all at the same time. But the good news, is that I have been trying to get caught up so that I can take a 2 week vacation and not have to worry about work. It started yesterday. (YAY!) My first day of vacation, I decided to reformat the hard drive of the main family computer (not the best decision for the first day of vacation). THe kids have installed some junk, and it's been in use for a couple of years now, and has really slowed down lately. It went okay, but I also decided to tighten up security on my wireless network, and in the process, I've screwed it up. So until I feel like working on it again, my laptop isn't getting to the internet. I've really gotten spoiled to using it, and don't like having to use the family computer.

Marie, It just seems like other people are having a losing streak. ;) I did finally lose a few pounds, but only after staying at 221 for all of November. Like you, I'm hoping to maintain during the next week. How did the snowshoeing go today. Fitday shows that it burns tons of calories!

Karen, I love homemade cinnamon rolls. I may make a batch for Christmas morning too. The kids used to love my cinnamon rolls, but I haven't made them it at least 2 years. I mentioned it to my daughter as i was reading about it, and she said, please make it. Either cinnamon rolls or "monkey bread". It's a pinch me type cake with cinnamon, sugar and a sweetened condensed milk icing. Not for the faint of heart or those trying to keep calories low. :)

Michelle, I hope you don't have the flu! How are you feeling by now? I like the new picture of you. You always seem to take such good photos. How was DH's Christmas party?

I walked to the park yesterday, walked 2 and 1/4 miles, then walked home. About 4 1/2 miles altogether (75 minutes). I am so far behind on my goal, but I hope tol have time to catch up between now and the end of the month.

Things have been so hectic here I haven't been having much luck with anything health wise. My right knee started playing up again so I took a break from aerobics and just did gentle yoga and walking, plus I picked up some Cod Liver Oil tablets. Happy to say the knee is feeling much better, though I'll be keeping things gentle for the next few days, and wearing my knee support just in case.

I've also found my calorie count creeping up now there is so much yummy food in the house. I've raised my allowance a little by dropping my weekly goal which has helped me relax a little, and I think I'll just switch to maintenance calories over the holidays.

And to catch up- on Wednesday I did Power Yoga and the Power Mile with weights, on Thursday some outdoor walking since I was up in London all day, on Friday I did a short seated yoga practice, on Saturday half an hour of yoga and an hour of walking. Tonight I did a short power yoga practice :)

Happy Sunday Everyone!!! The snowshoeing was great. So are you ready for this??? Last year we went once and I was miserable - I could hardly make it to my tree (I have a tree there even though noody but my family and now my co-worker know it). Anyway, I made it to the tree last year but had to climb back up. It was horrible. I'd say it's what started my new year's resolution and the walking since then. So fast forward to today and zoom. I had to wait for my co-worker and his wife. I knew the points that I would ahve been ready to pass out so DH and I stopped and waited. I did great. I hardly breathed ard although I did sweat (even though it was 20 degrees out - sunny and no wind). It was a great workout but it wasn't hard. I CAN NOT wait to go back. Last year I didn't want to go back ever. To be honest, that was better than the losing weight happiness all year. This was so significant. By the way, I checked my whole spreadsheet and have less than 30 miles to go on the walking/jogging to hit 1000 miles for 2006. I am going to make it even though I'm enjoying the cycling so much. Pretty amazing.

Well, more personals tomorrow as it is time for dinner.

Hi all,

Curlygrrl, I think maintenance mode is a good idea for the holidays. Hopefully, it will make holiday meals a little more enjoyable, and we can dig right in after the holidays. It’s so fun to think of you spending the day in London Thursday. I’ve never been to Great Britain, and my experience is pretty much limited to old episodes of Are You Being Served?, other British comedies and Agatha Christie mysteries, but the idea of London near Christmas time seems so exotic. I hope your knee continues to improve and things slow down for you.

Marie! Fantastic news. That is the whole point of trying to get healthier, so that the quality of our lives improve. You have done that by becoming more fit than you were last year. :cheer:

Well, I bit the bullet this afternoon, and got my wireless network rebuilt, so I’m happily typing away on my laptop again. What a pain in the rear computers can be sometimes.

I did three miles from the 3 mile WATP (35 minutes) plus a DVD called On the Ball for Abs, using a stability ball (30 minutes). I’m trying to play catch up for the month, and leave myself a little breathing room, so I can have a day off later in the month.

Take care,

Hi all, I did a 3 mile jog this morning and will walk the doggies later today to make the 5 miles. It's in the single digits so I'm waiting for it to warm up.

Kodiak and I have another private doggie training lesson. I'm pretty sure he hates school. :) But I really want to work on the outdoor walking so hopefully the trainer will be receptive to that. He was a prince on the indoor training, but take him on a walk and he's a donkey.

Wow! It sounds like everyone is doing GREAT! I did another 25 minutes on the treadmill last night and did .05 mile further in the same time! This morning, I did the 3 mile stretchie workout from the 5 mile DVD! I love when I can get a longer workout done in about the same time! Only 35 minutes, but a whole extra mile!

I finished my shopping this weekend, so now it's time to dig into the wrapping and the baking! We don't have much going on this week at night, so that's my plan! I finished the cards last night and they went to the post office already, too!

Have a great week before Christmas!

I walked 3 miles this morning and will walk 2 more with the doggies a little later. I don't feel great - perhaps a touch of a cold. I've lost my voice two mornings in a row but so far it seems to be coming back. Just a little sore throat. So I decided not to jog. Oh and I started using my almost DIL's ab lounger today. I don't hold high hopes for my flabby mid section after years of being overweight and having 2 kids, but I can try - right???

Michele, we're on the same track - I finished my shopping and decided to try something novel - wrap a little bit every day instead of cramming on Christmas Eve. So far the packages look so much prettier than in years past. :) And I also did my Christmas letter and cards last night. DH is dropping them at the post office on his way to work.

And while I was sleeping, my family started doing demolition work on my DH's gingerbread house (I'm thinking he's the one that took the wrecker ball to the roof). There's now a gaping hole in the roof and much of the candy is missing. And it was so pretty... :(

Good morning all! I baked Toffee Crisps and Butter Balls last night, so my baking is on its way. I even managed to (mostly) stay out of them! Tonight hubby has to bake cookies for the Scouts' cookie exchange tomorrow night. After that, I will step in and do one more recipe, whichever is the least time-consuming after hubby's foray into the kitchen.

This morning I did the 2 mile Express workout. I probably SHOULD have done 3, but I just wanted a slightly lighter day. It's been SO hectic at school AND home, that I just needed to give myself a bit of a break!

Hope everyone else is getting done what they need to--WITHOUT too much stress!

I did a 2 mile walk today by doing the 1st mile of the 5 mile DVD two times in a row using 2 lb weights. I like that walk :)

I've decided to set a mini-goal of getting back to 3 miles each workout consistently by the 8th of January. I could have probably hung in for 3 miles, but I'm so pressed for time and have so many things to do I decided to stick with 2. If I can just make it through Christmas getting 2 miles in a day and then get all the decorations down and stored away I think things will hopefully calm down enough again once the kids are back in school on January 2nd for me to ramp things up a bit again.

Marie

Karen, that sounds like a good plan. I like Mile 2 from the 5 miler - the "fastest walk". I did it 3 times today. It's the one I edit in with my jogging mile. For some reason, some of the other miles in the video bug me. I don't know why.

Michele, when's your winter break? My vacation started on Monday and I don't go back till the 2nd. Of course after the stress is done, the cold virus that's been sidelined for weeks hit full force. It's sort of an annual thing now. :)

Hi everyone...

Tammy- thanks for the well wishes! My knee is still doing pretty well so I'm very happy. And I think you are right on the maintenance calories- I don't want to get all miserable over the holidays and deny myself all the nice things to eat, and personally I'm looking forward to kick starting everything again in the new year! And I hope you do get over here one day, I'm sure you will find lots of things you will enjoy, and yes, London at Christmas time is pretty magical I have to admit! Although not so much right now, we seem to be getting a lot of fog at the moment so you can't see much at all at some times of the day!

And catching up again- on Monday I did the WATP mile with weights, followed by 45 minutes of yoga, on Tuesday I did a couple of hours of outdoor walking, and today I did 45 minutes of yoga again :D

Hi ladies, I walked in the park for 35 minutes this morning.

Karen, Your plan sounds good, and most importantly it sounds do-able. I think I overestimated how much time I would have in December, and I may not make my goal.

Marie, I hope you enjoy your time off. I'm enjoying mine so much.

Michele, You must have more willpower than I do right now to resist homemade cookies.

Curlygrrl, I sure hope to get over there some day. DH promised me that when I get to goal, my reward would be a trip to Europe, but I know that he hasn't saved any money for that purpose, so I'm not holding my breath. :)

Marie, our break starts at 1:15 tomorrow and we go back on the 3rd. I wish we had a bit more before the holiday, but what can you do?

I didn't do any baking last night, and I managed to stay out of what I made on Tuesday. We went out for Mexican last night and then hubby came home and made the cookies he needed for Scouts. I'll do more while the guys are caroling tonight. Maybe I can talk DD into wrapping while I bake.......

Tammy, get your hubby on the ball. My goodness, you've lost 131 pounds!!! At least he can start saving. BTW, other than getting another cold, I am enjoying my vacation. Someday I need to learn how to get sick during work so that I don't have to use vacation time when I'm sick. I never seem to grasp that. :)

Michele, I'll be thinking of you at 1:15 (11:15 my time). I know you're going to be one happy chickie.

I did 3 miles walking again this am. I did jog when the segment was jog, but I'm not ready to get back to a full jog mile. Maybe tomorrow. I've had sporatic fevers the last few days and so far today, none. So I have hope. :)

Merry Christmas everyone!

:hohoho: :hohoho: :hohoho:

I have to tell you that you guys are so inspirational. I love how you've been exercising even with all the holiday "busy-ness" that goes on. I have taken the easy way out and haven't done any intentional exercise since the 20th. :o Today, DH said he would go to the park and walk with me, to help me get back on track. So, I'm taking him up on his offer. There is no chance I'll make my goal this month, but I'll do what I can to get closer to it.

Marie and CurlyGrrl, I love the suggestion of getting a piggy bank for DH. Getting better control over our finances is one of my goals for 2007, so maybe we can start saving for it together. Marie, I hope you're feeling better by now. You're right, it's too bad that you're having to be sick during vacation time.

Merry Christmas to everyone (or happy holidays for those that don't celebrate Christmas)!!!!!

It was a wonderful day. I'd rank it as one of my happiest Christmases yet. We took the doggies out to the mountain to run their behinds off this morning so they'd be exhausted the rest of the day. It was raining and I got cold and wet (great for the cold, I know) but now later in the day, the doggies are passed out by my feet. :) Mission accomplished. I also got 2 more miles in walking. DH and I got DS a treadmil so I might have to try that out but I'm thinking I'm a WATPer through and through.

Michele, great job on the IFIT completion. Great fo hubby to get you a healthy gift. Permanent changes only occur when those around us support us so I'm way proud of your hubby!!!

Tammy, definitely take DH up on the walk and make him go way more often. It's great alone time for spouses.

CurlyGrrl, you are just cruisin' on your exercise and weight loss.

Karen and Michelle, I'm thinking of you both and hope that there were bright spots in your holiday.

Hello, everyone. I've been w/o a phone or internet from the 22nd until yesterday. Grrrr. Hope no one here works for Verizon, I have serious issues with those folks! Our phone service is awful and internet...ugh. It's so bad that even DH---who can be rather, um, frugal, yea that's the word LOL---is telling me to look into satellite internet since that is our only other option. We're in the country so we can't get cable or DSL. Not sure if we want to make the kind of $ commitment it'll take though. Still researching :)

I've not done with with exercise for way too many days now :( But, tomorrow I hope to get back on track and try to meet my goal of upping my workouts to 3 miles within the next 2-3 weeks. Christmas was hard. It was so quiet at MILs house. We all knew that David was the life and the energy, it was just so palpable. I don't think I expected that. I took every single Christmas related item down inside the house yesterday and packed them all away. I just needed to get past the holiday and get things back to "normal" in the house. I hated to do that to the kids, but I needed it for me.

Everyone is doing so well!!! WTG!! I hope to be back tomorrow posting exercise :)

Okay - I changed my mind - I ended up doing the Get Up and Get Started - 1 mile before I lifted weights.

Has anyone ever been afraid to take a day off because they are afraid of not starting again? I know it sounds stupid - but I am......... Oh well.....

Have a great evening everyone!!!

Penney, I totally know what you mean. Take a day off??? No, I rarely do that. I know that I'm a slug by nature so I exercise every day. I think I've taken about 10 days off in the last year. But I'm on track and stay that way because of your exact thought process. So do what works for you.

Karen, word of warning on DirecWay (DW) - one of the satellite internet. It's slow and unreliable. I had it for 2 years and when QWest put DSL in my remote rural neighborhood (thanks to a neighbor who works for them) I was eternally happy. DW dish would get snow on it and then the internet wouldn't work. It would be raining/cloudy and you couldn't get satellite signal. I have DirecTV and that isn't nearly as touchy. There was also a 2 year contract and it was so spendy. The only thing that was truly faster than dial up was downloads. Because once the satellite knew what you wanted, it would download it fast (such as a song or program).

Now my sister has Starband and is relatively happy with it (she lives in rural Iowa). She's had a fee issues, but nothing to what I felt with DirecWay.

Today is an off exercise morning. Almost DIL and I are going to go skiing/snowboarding this afternoon. Since the last time I skied my quads nearly died, I thought I shouldn't jog/walk beforehand. But if she bails on me, then I'll jog/walk this afternoon. And if she does, tomorrow DH has the day off and we'll go skiing.

Penney, I completely understand not wanting to take a day off. I was very much like that before my BIL passed away. I'm actually hoping to get back that drive. It helps me to stay focused because it seems like if I take one day off it's too easy to take another..and then another....and then it gets baaaad LOL

Marie, thanks for the DW info. I hadn't heard good things about Hughes/DW so I did some checking. We ended up going with WildBlue. We had received some mailers over the past year from our rural electric coop about WildBlue, but there were never any providers in our area. There are finally several not too far away so I contacted one of them and we sent the papers in today. It's not as much of a layout for equipment and the install is free with a special they are running right now and the monthly charge is less. Under $50 a month vs $60 so we'll give them a try. I figure it can't be worse than what we have. I don't think anything can! We have the same problems with DirecTV when it snows and rains. If we had another option other than them we'd go with it, but there aren't any other providers out here. I think DTV customer service is horrible. WildBlue should be installed Jan 11th, so it'll be a nice b-day present since my bday is the 13th :D

I did the 2 mile Walk away the Stress dvd today. Whew. It is hard getting back into this! I've been so off and on....hopefully I can get it turned more on quick!

Hi Penney and 100Percent. I'm so glad you've joined us. I love WATP and I'm always glad to meet others who do too.

I did 20 minutes on the PowerRider yesterday, 20 minutes today, and the fast 2 miles from the 5 mile DVD (22 minutes).

Did 2 miles today from the 5 mile DVD. The first mile with 2 lb weights and then the 3rd mile. I was thinking about pushing through for 3 miles, but I have to get a shower and run a bunch of errands so I thought I'd save that for tomorrow :)

Hi all, I went skiing yesterday for the first time in years. It was the funnest day I've had in years. Because of WATP for over 1000 miles in 2006 (yeah!!!) I wasn't sore and was in good shape. I really enjoyed it. The last time (about 3-4 years ago) I was scared because my legs (quards) hurt so much and I was so out of shape. What a difference wATP has made in my life. Tomorrow we're going snowshoeing and DH agreed to go skiing every other week. Life is so much more fun now that I'm fit again!!!!

This morning we took the doggies on the long, 3 miles, hilly walk. It was cold and sunny. It felt great!!!

Have a great Saturday everyone!!!!

I just got the 1,2 and 3 mile with the band on vhs for Christmas. I have only fast foward the 1 mile to see what it is like, it seemed easy enough, I will be startign them January 1st, 2007, (new years resolitions). I would like to join your group come then, is that ok cause I need the support. My goal is to alternate between the 2 and 3 mile, starting off with the 1 mile for 2 weeks then alternating between the 1 and 2 then on to my goal. I know I can do it no excuses now except for power outage LOL.

Hiya Ice Princess- great to have you on board :D

Wow, I can't believe it is nearly the new year! I haven't really had a lot of time for exercise this past week but I've managed to get some in thankfully. Wednesday I had the day off as we were visiting family. Thursday, Friday and Saturday I did some walking outdoors. Today I did the Power Mile with weights and power Yoga. I guess that finishes me up for the month and the year.

Thanks everyone for being so inspiring and motivating, you have all been awesome, and I look forward to walking with you all in 2007!!

Hi Ladies -- Well I've been MIA for awhile now, but I'm happy to say that I am SO READY for a new year!! This has been a horrible year, and I pray for good things to come for 2007, including me staying on track!;) My grandma was put into the hospital with pnemonia, so I'm worried about her with her age. She's supposed to have a major surgery on 1-11-07, but I'm afraid this is going to put a hault on those plans. This is already the second time of the surgery having to be scheduled. I guess I'll go ahead and start a new thread for January if nobody else has. I wish all of you a Happy New Years, and hoping that 2007 brings everything filled with happiness, good health, and many blessings!!!
