Question Please help me

Hi everyone. I'm new here and very glad to have found this site. I have a question and I hope that I'm posting in the correct forum. I'm 29 and trying to conceive my first baby. with Clomid; I'm a little concern about my weight. I'm 5'2, okay 5'3 and weighing 167. My OB don't have any concerns about my weight but I do because it's very difficult for me to become pg. He also said that it will be okay but I read somewhere that if you do a crash diet that you can risk the chance of delaying ovulationa and I already have that problem. So all that being said, I would like to try to loose at least 15 pounds even thought I'm currently ttc. Do you think it will be okay for to try to lose some weight now? I know that I should had thought about it sooner but after doing some research on the net, I think if I lost some weight that it might help me conceive a little faster. I was looking into the Fat Smash Diet. I'm not a big fan of eating meat daily and that's why I thought this diet would work for me. Any suggetions will be grealty appreciated . Thank you, Nina

Hi,I had post this question on the 20-something forum without realizing that this forum exists. And, boy am I glad that I found this one. I still need some advice but I'm not clear on what exactly a crash diet is. Someone on the other forum had "beat" me like I said I wanted to drink the devil's water for saying crash diet . I didn't mean to ask if a crash diet was healthy( I do know that any crash diet can be harmful), what I meant was IS dieitng healthy while ttc. I would like to do the Fat smash diet, do you think that it will be okay? Thank you so much in advance for the advice. Nina

There's nothing wrong with dieting while ttc. There's nothing wrong with dieting while pregnant even. But IMHO, ANY diet that requires you to not eat whole food groups, take pills, or promises miracle fast weightloss, is a scam and damaging, and I wouldn't do it. You can lose 15 pounds by just adding daily exercise and cutting your calories to a reasonable level, and eating healthy balanced meals. Your chances of losing, and keeping it off, grow, as well as your chances of getting pregnant.

A low-glycemic diet is great for TTC and even pregnancy. A study today from Australia confirms it's actually good for momma and baby. You may not lose the weight as fast, but you definitely want to avoid going into ketosis, as that can harm a baby. You're right too - any crazy/crash type diets can mess with your ovulation. May I ask why you're on Clomid? PCOS?
PS I went to college in Slippery Rock, so I know Pittsburgh!

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I didn't have access to a computer and mines was being service. I'm taking the Clomid because my ob said I was ovulating. This month was my second round, and I'm praying that it will be my last (baby dust to me).

ygwife - Do you mean your doc said you are NOT ovulating? I was on clomid too because I do not ovulate regularly and it is making it VERY hard to TTC, as anyone can well imagine! I too am trying to lose weight so I will ovulate more regularly (hopefully). I tried clomid for two rounds, I ovulated really well on it but no pregnancy. Not surprising, it can take a while even while on clomid. Really, clomid was just giving me a "normal" chance of becoming pregnant! Anyhow I decided that I needed to get off of it and lose some weight. I am doing it the old-fashioned way, by cutting calories and exercising. The journey is slow but it's working! I think dieting while TTC is just fine, and my infertility specialist is the one telling me to do it...so I trust him. I'm trying to relax about the whole thing, I am going to be 29 next month and my doc just keeps telling me I have A LOT of time left. I know how hard it is though when you wanted to be pregnant, like, RIGHT NOW! Good luck to you!
