Default November Exercise Challenge?

Any one interested in doing an exercise challenge for November? I know there are a couple of Thanksgiving challenges going on (I am involved in one), but I think exercise challenges are great. I can control how many minutes of intentional exercise I do but I can't control how fast my body releases the pounds.

I was just wondering who was going to start the one for November! Yeah glad it's you otherwise I'd miss ya! I was thinking the same thing too. Sometimes I get so hung up on the scale! Then I had to remind myself I started the month at 229!!! SO I did lose 10 pounds but this last week was slooooowww. I am going to try to be good and not wigh every day but just on sunday! Unless I find that I am not staying in check. I want to concentrate on exercise and keeping my cals at an average of 1700 a day.

In October I had a blast with the walking challenge. The first week after bragging about how I could do it and all that, I hit a mental stumbling block and wondered if I actually could! Or if I would fall short by 100-200 minutes. I really kicked my butt and now I have too keep adding minutes! I hit my 1800 walking mark and am now over.

So I do want to make my marker 1800 minutes of intentional exercise. I am also going to start the pilates for dummies! Maybe today even. I am kind of nervous of starting anything new but I know I need to. Have you tried that one?

I do winsor pilates for beginners. I love it when I do it! I try for everyday but it usually turns into 4-5 times per week. I'm trying to get my husband to do them with me! (I told him Hulk Hogan does them!) It willl be amusing.

How about miles? I so need to kick my butt into to gear. Exercise is My down fall......I'm going to start with 25 Miles ..Mentally I want to add a bigger number but I actually want to reach a goal this time Plus 10 minutes of weights after each walk. I will not add a goal for that ...I will keep track though

Okay I am in 1300 minutes of intention exercise for the month of November. This might be stretch for me since I am going on vacation for a week, but I will try and get some workouts in. The Walktober Challenge reallly kept me motivated because I couldn't get be hind. Thanks for starting this up jcatron!

jasmine: I have Pilates for Dummies at home. I like to pull it out on a lazy day when I don't want to get out of the house. It is a good workout, but you don't feel it until the next day when you are sore. While doing the workout you don't feel like you are working out but you really are. Don't get discouraged it took me a few times to get the hang of the moves. It goes pretty slow and gives a good explanantion.

Thumbs up

Oh, I LOVE to exercise... but I need a little butt-kicking to challenge myself, so this is a great idea!

I'm not sure what "intentional exercise" is. Is it just cardio, or is it inclusive of weight training, as well?

I guess since we all do so many different things to get our butts in gear and really challenge ourselves, our goals will all be as unique as we are - miles walked versus minutes of intentional exercise, etc.

I think that I'm going to set a November goal for myself of getting to the gym five days a week. I already get to the gym four days a week now, and once I get to the gym, exercising is the easy part because I honestly have learned to love it. The challenge lies with actually getting myself up and out of bed and into the car (especially since the mornings are getting colder and colder!). I'd exercise at night, but that's time with DH that I don't want to miss out on, so it looks like I'm going to be an early-bird exerciser. And I am NOT a morning person.

So - I'm on board!!

I can't believe tomorrow's November 1 already...

November 30 -

I like the idea of posting miles as well as minutes, I guess I'll count my time at the gym (usually around 90 minutes, 3-4 times a week) and my miles by the numbers on the elliptical and the cross trainer. Then each day we can go back and just edit our original posts, so the thread doesnt get too big. So my goal looks like this:

Goal 1100 minutes (seems low but that is rounded up from 90min X 3 days X 4 weeks so at least it is attainable for me, I REALLY hope to pass that)

Goal 50 miles ( I can usually get in 2.5 on elliptical + 1.5 on cross trainer so 4 miles X 3 days X 4 weeks.....I CAN DO IT!)

Also, it has not escaped me that so far most of the responders have been dear friends of mine from the Thanksgiving challenge! HI GUYS! I haven't forgotten ya'll, I've been reading the chat threads but haven't had time to post....I'll pop over there next. Plus I really like that I already plan to go to the gym on the FIRST of the month, kinda makes you feel like you're on top of it to start right away, eh?!

I like the idea of the exercise challenge, like jcatron said, you might not always move the scale but you CAN physically move the minutes ticker. Lots of love, lots of luck!

I am very excited for this challenge. I have done really well with the Walktober challenge! I will track miles too. I have a pedometer, so when I go for my walks I can count those. My stationary bike I generally do 10-15 miles per day according to the bikes computer, but I don't think I will count those. Okay my new goal: 1500 minutes of intentional exercise and 35 walking miles!

BTW Rowdybliss: Intentional exercise to me is the time I set aside doing exercise, not the time I spend moving around at work or walking at the grocery store.

Default My Accountability Post

This will be my accountability post!

GOALS:
My original goals will not be met. However, my goal by the end of the month will still be that I want to be able to increase my endurance training enough to do 45 minutes of cardio each time I go to the gym.

November 1 - 60 mins intentional exercise (30 cardio/30 upper-body strength training)
2 - day of rest
3 - 60 mins intentional exercise (45 cardio, 15 lower-body strength training)
4 - 60 mins intentional exercise (50 cardio, 10 core strength training)
5 - day of rest - still can't find Pilates discs! grrr...
6 - 50 mins intentional exercise (30 cardio, 20 upper-body strength training)
7 - day of rest - where are those flippin' Pilates vids!?!
8 - 60 mins intentional exercise (30 cardio, 30 upper-body/core strength)
9 - day of rest
10 - 60 mins intentional exercise (40 mins cardio, 20 mins lower-body strength training/free weights)
11 - day of rest
12 - 60 mins intentional exercise (40 mins cardio, 20 mins upper-body strength training)
13 - day of rest
14 - 35 mins cardio (15 on crosstrainer, 20 on recumbent bike. Ouch!). Low number due to Neanderthals hogging machines at the gym.
15 - 50 mins cardio (20 crosstrainer, 20 recumbent, 10 elliptical)
16 - 50 mins intentional exercise (35 cardio, 15 core/upper-body S.T.)
17 - 50 mins intentional exercise (I know I went to the gym, but I can't remember what I did!)
18 - 45 mins intentional exercise (30 mins cardio, 15 lower body S.T.)
19 - day of rest
20 - day of rest
21 - 45 mins cardio! Whew!
22 - 50 mins intentional exercise (40 mins cardio, 10 mins upper-body S.T.)
23 - Thanksgiving! Gym closed!
24 - day of rest (traveling!)
25 - 70 mins intentional exercise (55 mins cardio, 15 mins lower-body S.T.)
26 - day of rest
27 - had to work late (grrrrr...)
28 - 60 mins intentional exercise (45 mins cardio, 15 mins upper-body/core S.T.)
29 - 45 mins intentional exercise (30 cardio, 15 lower-body/core)
November 30 - 20 mins intentional exercise - PILATES!

Total November Minutes: 930 - not too shabby!!!

GO TEAM!!!!!

And YES, I am very glad to see familiar folks here..!!! It's nice to take this challenge with the same folks (and some new ones!)... really makes me feel like I've got some good pals who are sticking together for the long-haul. This is so much easier to do knowing I'm not alone!

Okay... I thought it was something like that, but I wasn't sure! I guess I could probably find little ways to sneak in some little bits of intentional exercise outside the gym, too, like taking the dog for a walk (or a dog-jog!), or doing crunches/squats during commercials while DH and I watch t.v...

I like the idea of that - racking up the minutes!
