I'm not pregnant or nursing but I am drawn to this area of the forum because what you all have achieved is MY end goal - pregnancy. I am currently living a whole foods lifestyle in order to lose weight and get healthy for IUI next summer (male factor IF - will be using donor).
I am determined to be the best mom I can possibly be and the first thing that needs to be done is to create a healthy home for my child for the spark of life to begin and grow!
Anyone else with me??

Hi Alison..
That is wonderful what you are doing. A great goal with great rewards. I have 2 wonderful boys and one of the best things that I can do for them is to get in shape and stay healthy. Your goal can and will be achieved. I know you will be a great mom. Congrats to you on your 3lbs loss. Keep up the good work!!! :)

Good luck on getting pregnant! You may also find some great support at babycenter.com because they have a "big, beautiful, and trying to conceive" forum for people in your same situation...and once you conceive they also have a plus sized and pregnant forum. You will be so grateful for all the weight you lose before you get pregnant when you are in your last trimester and aching all over ;)

Good luck! I got pregnant after losing 75 lbs, not intentionally just the way things happened. Now that I'm pregnant, I'm focused on staying healthy and getting back into shape once the baby comes. There's absolutely no better reason!

Same here, wasn't trying to get pregnant, wasn't planning to ever get pregnant, doctors thought hubby couldn't get me pregnant due to his illness. Fat lot they knew. Speaking of fat...I lost over 100 pounds of it and bam! Those doctors had to re-examine their thoughts on hubby. At 51, and me 41, we're doing the parenting thing. Me again, after a 22 year old daughter. Ahh well. I guess that's why they call it practicing medicine. LOL
Wouldn't change it for the world now, but man we sure had a hard time coming to terms with it back then. All I can figure though is that the weight loss must've been the culprit.

Yes yes yes! I am with you! I'm also working on losing weight to better my chances of pregnancy (among other things, of course). I have been through fertility treatments including IUI and injections, but the injectables just wouldn't work and the doctor felt if I lost some weight, they may work better. I'm also using donor sperm and IUI, but there is no male factor - my partner is a woman.
I'm surprised I haven't run across more people here who are in the same infertility situation. Maybe everyone is in the PCOS forum...? I don't have PCOS so I have only lurked there.
Anyway, welcome! I love your positive attitude!

Thanks to all shared good thoughts and positive vibes!
And YAY! I'm so excited to see that there are some other women to share this journey with! Please stick around - post when you can and let's keep each other motivated and positive!
txmel - wow - another IUI/donor chick! I'm thrilled you responded! Hey, male factor, female partner - no difference here, we're in the same boat! I don't have PCOS either, which is why I decided to post here. So glad to hear from you - and I'm sorry that you've had a tough time so far with the injectables. Its amazing what treating our bodies better can accomplish and I'm happy to share the journey with you!
Sassy_Chick - Thanks for the invite to the PCOS TTC & WL thread! I will definitely check that one out too! I'm hoping to keep this thread going too - since I don't have PCOS this was the first place I looked, but its great to know there are more resources for us!
Lifeguard - Hi! Good for you for trying everything possible be healthy! My only word of advice is that although you're on the right road to getting healthy - you should NEVER have to be afraid of seeking the medical advice and assistance you need. I hate that so many in the medical community have made us feel "less than" for being fat. Have you ever looked at this site -http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/ They're a pregnancy based site but they do have sections on infertility, For me, though, the most positive aspect of the site is her insistence that we take control of our health care and INSIST on a size-friendly doctor. We deserve quality treatment, no matter what that darn scale says!
ValRock - Welcome! CONGRATULATIONS on losing the weight and being SO close to TTC! How exciting! Keep us posted on your progress and if you have any words of advice on the losing process (with TTC in mind) please share!
And as for ME, - I just got back from my OB/GYN and have been given a clean bill of health and some wonderful assurance that once I'm ready to try IUI we should have no problems at all getting pregnant! I SO needed to hear that! Of course, she completely agrees that losing weight first is the right thing to do - she quizzed me to make sure that I was doing it the RIGHT way - healthy foods, portion control, exercise, etc. It was just great to hear that everything is under control! I've been taking BCP's to regulate my periods, but will be going off them and charting beginning tomorrow. I really want to be 110% aware of my body and its cycles so that when I go in to that fertility clinic next summer things can go smoothly!

wow - another IUI/donor chick! I'm thrilled you responded!
thanks! (changed the username, but it's me!) We're also probably going to start TTC again in the summer, so your ticker is my countdown also! We may try in the spring if I lose enough by then, but I'll be teaching every day and I'm not sure I could work all the RE (fertility doctor) appointments around that schedule or if I want to subject myself to all the hormones during that time!
I was thrilled to see on Monday that I lost 5 pounds last week! I checked again yesterday and I was down 2 more, but I only change the ticker after the "official" weigh-in on Mondays. I've been making great choices and I'm hopeful!
Lifeguard - At my first visit to the fertility doctor, I was terrified because of my weight. I really just went to find out how much I had to lose before he would consider seeing me, and I was shocked when he was willing to work with me right away. He acknowledged that weight can be an issue, but said it isn't necessarily and was always completely supportive and kind. I hope once you're ready to go, you find a doctor who is as wonderful as mine has been!
everyone else - good luck!

I have actually finally been convinced through this & discussion with others here that I should start the slow moving wheels of the medical system to get my referral as it will likely be at least 6 months before I even get to see a fertility specialist. I'm down another 3.5 pounds this week and thrilled about it. This is usually the point that I start backing off and making poor choices, but I'm aware of that and working hard to avoid that slippery slope. I definitely have the itch to TTC again (I've even been thinking all those injections I had to have before weren't so bad!) so I need to keep it up so we can get there.

Hi everyone. I am also trying to lose weight to be healthy but also to work on baby #2. I had my first son on 12/01/01 and had a difficult pregnancy due to my weight. I started my pregnancy at 220 (I am 5'1"). Everything was fine until the last two months. Then, my blood pressure started going up and I gained a lot of fluid weight...about 30-40 pounds within weeks. I was right at 300 pounds the day before delivery. It was awful...my legs were so heavy with fluid that I had to have help getting them up into the bed and the only shoes I could wear were my husband's shoes. I ended up having an emergency c-section and it tooks week for the fluid to start going away. After the fluid was gone, I was still at 260+ which is a tremendous amount of weight when you are short like me. Anyway, I stayed at around 260 for a couple of years, but this year I have committed myself to losing weight. I started in Jan at 266 and now I am at 228. I had a few setbacks over the summer because I was very stressed while we were building a new house, but about 8 weeks ago I joined Weight Watchers and that has helped a lot.
Anyway, my goal is to lose about 2 pounds per week and that will put me at my goal by September and start TTC right away. I am a teacher so I would like to try to plan the baby to come during the summer so I can have more time home before going back to work. I will be 32 next year so I don't want to wait too long, but I do know I have a few more years to work on it. My oldest sister just had a baby at 38 and I have a 44 year old cousin expected her 9th baby. I just want one more...two kids is perfect for me.
Anyway, it's nice to see that others are here trying to lose weight to have babies. I hope to get to know some of you all.

Please, may I join? We lost our son to stillbirth at the end of June at 36w4d when I developed pre-eclampsia. I have been trying to lose weight since then so that we can TTC again. It has been so much harder than I remember it being when I was younger. Part of it is the grieving, part of it is the hormones-- I still leak breast milk, for example. I want to lose weight to honor my son and so that we can get started making another baby.

Amaara,
I am so sorry about your loss. I can't imagine how hard that would be. I don't know if I could ever recover from that. I don't know if I had full-blown pre-eclamsia during my pregnancy with my son who is now almost 5, but I had the symptoms...really high blood pressure and extreme swelling to the pount that I couldn't lift my swollen legs in bed alone. I was induced for two days, but nothing happened so then I had an emergency c-section when R.J.'s heart rate dropped. I was on a fetal monitor for several days prior to delivery. It tooks several weeks for the swelling to go down after delivery. I don't want to go through that again so I am determined to get down to a healthy weight before TTC again. I am going to Weight Watchers. What plan are you using?

Melody, I'm doing WW also. I have a horrible cold/sinus infection this week and have completely fallen off the wagon (too sick/tired to plan, so I've been grabbing anything) but I'm not stressed about it like I would have been in the past. I'll just get back up and keep going.

Peaceful,
I am sorry you have been so sick. I haven't done so well the past couple of days. Weekends are hardest for me. Yesterday I took my son to a birthday party and it was also my husband's birthday so there was cake every where and I gave into temptation. In the past, I would have binged after a slip up, but I am not going to do that. I hope to get right back on track and put these slipups behind me.

Thank you for the very kind welcomes, Melody and Peaceful!
I use FitDay (the software) and I do step aerobics and weight training. This past week I have not been exercising since I have had the flu-- and still have it! My lungs feel too tight to exercise right now. When I first started, I pushed myself too hard and fell off the step. It was kind of funny (and I wasn't hurt), but I did get some lovely bruises. So, I don't want to exercise until I feel better.
I have been doing this since mid-August, but haven't seen any pounds lost on the scale. I have lost inches, as evidence by my clothes and husband. Until I started doing FitDay, I really under-estimated the number of calories I was consuming. Yikes! I have kept a journal of the 3 E's-- eating, exercise, and emotion for the past 3 months. That is one habit I believe is pretty solid by now.
I want to get my calories down to 1500/day and increase my exercise to 6 times a week. I don't want to even consider TTCing until I have lost at least 30 pounds, which is approx. 10% of my body weight.
Melody-- it is wonderful that you have stayed on track, even after eating a peice of cake!
How do you ladies like WW?

Today was my weigh-in day and I lost a half pound! I'm surprised, as I have not journalled anything for almost 2 weeks.
Melody, weekends are hardest for me too. I chose Monday as my weigh-in day because when I did WW before, my meetings were on Saturday mornings and I would often go overboard on the weekends because I figured I had the rest of the week to make up for it. Weighing on Monday keeps me accountable on the weekends.
I understand how you feel, Amaara. I haven't been exercising since I've been sick. I've hardly been able to muster the energy to shower, so exercise has been pretty low on my list of priorities. I hope you feel better soon! I'm feeling better and back on track today.
I like WW. I lost 30 pounds a few years ago with WW, then gained them all back plus 20 friends. My biggest problem is portion control, so WW has really helped me learn how to portion more correctly. I don't go to meetings, just do it at home. It works great when I stick to it!

I had weigh in today and amazingly I was down 1 pound for a total of 18.5 since joining weight watchers 8 weeks ago. I need to lose 6 more to get to my 10% goal.
Amaara and Peaceful, I am sorry you both are sick. I wouldn't wish the flu or a bad sinus infection on anyone.
Amaara, I really like Weight Watchers. This is my 3rd time to join, but both time before I dropped out within the first month. The first time I left because I didn't have the extra money when I was in college and the second time I dropped out because my son was 2 at the time and he couldn't be quiet at the meetings. Now, he's fine and he sits quietly and colors while we have the meetings. I like going to the meetings because it keeps me motivated...I like getting the reward stickers, ribbons, etc. I look forward to my meetings every week. My leader is a girl I went to graduate school with and she is a teacher, too, so that's cool. Also, my next door neighbor who is a friend of mine goes, too. I am going to keep going to weight watchers this time until I am a lifetime member...I am determined because I know if I quit going and quit being accountable I will either not lose much more or gain back some weight and I do not want to do that. I just got back into my size 20 Lane Bryant jeans that I haven't been able to wear for years and I do not want to outgrow them again...I want them to be too lose soon!
Anyway, I hope you all had a good Monday. I am looking forward to next week because there is no school for the whole week. I am happy to have a break and get to keep my son home for a week. The only problem is that it will be harder to watch what I eat when I am home all day. I have to keep myself really busy and make sure not to have any junk in the house or it could be a disaster...

I will look into WW if I can't get my eating under control by myself. Right now, I am just counting calories. I eat way too much! I know my appetite will drop off once I get back to exercising.
Peaceful, congrats on your weight loss! Good for you!

Funny I have been sick the last little bit too. Totally put a crimp in my exercising. blah!
I like that 3 E's - eating, exercise, emotion. That's a terrific way to look at it.
I have been doing herbal magic (only available in Canada). I get to check in with them daily for weigh-ins & to review my food journal (where I also record workouts but I think I might start adding emotion!). Once a week they measure.
On my own I am trying to exercise 6 days a week in the gym or the pool & walk the dog daily (this I struggle the most with).
Anyway, this menstrual cycle I have felt sure I conceived. Totally tired & nauseated but the tests are coming up negative so either it is too soon or the symptoms are all from my mind wanting a baby so badly!
Anyway, today is my birthday so I'm doing nothing productive! Tomorrow, back on track!

Exercise is one of my biggest problems also. I have to confess I haven't really been doing much of it. I do WATP videos sometimes but not for the past couple of weeks. I'm working on eating well now but once I'm feeling better I really need to re-commit to that. I also joined a gym that is opening next month less than a mile from my house, and I am looking forward to having some variety there!
I really should get out and walk my dog more. She is only 8 months old and is already getting pudgy. The weather has been nice lately so I just need to do it!

My cycles have never been regular UNLESS I'm on the pill! So frustrating. They are really, really long. Still, it only took 4 months to get pregnant with my first child. But then it took 12 with the second. Which surprised us, but in those 12 months I only had like 5 periods (which meant a lot of wasted $ on HPTs...). Hope your cycles even out soon.

So I will throw out a question for all of us pregnant wannabies. How much exercise do you do on a regular basis. And do you reduce the about of exercise during the time of the month when you are TTC?
sept15lija
12-05-2006, 01:39 PM
I try to exercise at least 4-5 days per week. I try to do 3 days of cardio (usually 60 minutes on treadmill) and 2 days where I do 30-45 mins of cardio and 45 min of weights. No I haven't been reducing it, I think I will continue if/when I get pregnant - just maybe tone down the intensity a bit. What are your thoughts on it?
dollypie
12-05-2006, 03:36 PM
I exercise 5 days a week w/ 30 minutes of cardio each day and 4 days of weights (20 minutes). Same with you not going to reduce the amount of exercise I am doing and will continue if/when I get pregnant until the doctor would advise to cut down. I think be healthy and fit is one of the best things to do while TTC.

12-06-2006, 04:11 PM
ITA! (obviously, from my earlier post...haha). Being as healthy as possible and as fit as possible is just going to make things so much easier. Plus, can you imagine taking 9 months off of exercise and then trying to get back into it after the baby's born? I think about years and years ago...women never stopped working, they went on as usual for as long as they could.

Exercise? What is this "exercise" you speak about? I have been working hard to finish the semester and all the good habits I had for a while have fallen away since the big Thanksgiving/birthday extravaganza when we had relatives in town for a week. I only regained 2 of the 13 I lost, but the scale definitely moved the wrong way and I need to fix that. I'm not sure what my problem is but I feel so much better about myself when I am making good choices, so I am going to work on that! I did better than usual today with calories, though my meals were weird (most of the calories were in one meal and I was very hungry part of the day when I was away from home because I planned poorly) so I definitely have a long way to go.
Because this is the TTC thread, I'll add that part of my motivation is that a friend is planning to start TTC in January, and I'm completely upset with myself that I'm not ready to do that again. Logistically, the timing would be bad anyway (student teaching and heavy doses of injectable fertility drugs probably would not mix well) but it still makes me sad.
Liz, I hope you had a great birthday!

Thanks for the birthday wishes!! I did have a really good birthday, weight loss goal aside.
peaceful - LOL I know what you mean "What is exercise??" Some days I am not acquanted with the concept either! Hey, what am I saying, days?? I mean weeks! I do that sometimes too and have a really big meal that uses up most of my calories...I try not to do it too often because generally when I do that it means I'm eating junk food...but some days you just need to indulge a bit (especially if you can stick to your calories doing it!)
dollypie - Sorry to hear you had a bad food day - don't think of it as the beginning of a big set back, just forgive yourself and move on! Today (and actually, this minute) is new and a chance for you to make the right choices. You can do it! :carrot:
sar - I know what you mean about accountability. I've never done this on other w/l attempts, but this time I am telling EVERYONE how much weight I've lost (OK, not everyone, but DH, my mom & my sisters) and that way I feel sort of accountable to them. They ask me all the time how I'm doing. To be honest, though, the person I feel most accountable to this time around is myself. This is definitely a change from other weight loss attempts...where I needed outside accountability to keep me focused.

Hi. Can I jump in here? DH and I have been trying, at least sort of, since Aug. 1999. I don't have my period w/o medicinal intervention and I don't ovulate, even on Clomid. I just started Glucophage 3 days ago... it's been a fun couple of days lol. Well, I don't want to write too much here since I'm not sure anyone will check back, but just want to say hi!

Welcome Sbrown! I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing. Do the docs feel if you lose you may ovulate on your own (or with the glucophage? I have to admit I don't know a lot about that drug)? I usually check this everyday....I need all the support I can get! :)

Hi. He said he doesn't think my weight is an issue with the whole TTC struggle, but said, which I agree, it wouldn't hurt and it could be a possibility. We were having trouble ttc even when I was thin... the same troubles to be precise. The only thing that has changed over time, is the hair loss & the odd growths other places, also huge fluctuations in my hormone lab tests every time they're done.
He said there's a chance I will O on the Glucophage, but he said not to get my hopes up. I took Clomid awhile back and didn't even O on that. He's hoping after being on this for awhile, we can try the Clomid again and see if it works this time. Neither of us are 100% it's actually PCOS yet. I have an ultrasound Tuesday and had blood work done this past Monday. So, he's hoping it'll show something. But he is fairly certain it is PCOS... due to a lot of the symptoms. So, I guess it's just a waiting game. This may sound odd, but I am really hoping it is PCOS. At least then there's "something" they can try to treat. Plus, everything I have read about the Glucophage seems very promising.
Sorry about the long post... it's late here & when I get tired, I get typative. :)
Thanks!!

Hello again!
Here's hoping the glucophage works for you! How high a dose did you go to on Clomid? I understand wanting a diagnosis...at least you know what's wrong and you can begin to treat it. Did your ultrasound show any cysts on your ovaries? My doc says I don't have PCOS...but I don't quite believe it...I too have the hair growth (although so do my sisters and my mom, my mom had no problems and neither did my sister). I O'd on clomid (did it two rounds) but no pregnancy. After that is when I decided I needed to go off the clomid, and get this frigging weight off!! I'm SO hoping I O on my own this cycle...I temp everyday to chart my cycle.
Hey and don't worry about the long post, I always seem to go on and on too! lol

I did 50mg for 3 months. My dr wanted to up it to 100mg for another 3 months, but since I didn't O at all, he figured it would be a waste until we did some more tests, plus our insurance wouldn't cover Clomid. I have my ultrasound next week, so I don't know what, if anything they'll find. I haven't had an ultrasound done in almost 4 years... so it could be interesting. I know in the past, nothing was ever found... if they were paying attention at least. I'm still not convinced after doing some more reading that I do have PCOS though... or that the Glucophage will work. But I should have the lab work back in a little over a week and right around there, my dr should know the results of my ultrasound. I'll let you know what I find out on both. Everyone on my mother's side is hairy. I didn't have trouble with it until about 1, maybe 2 years ago. I do understand any frustration you have on all this though. I've been trying to find out what's wrong for over 7 years. All of the hormones that I had had checked were always normal until sometime between June 2005 and January 2006. In January, my prolactin was slightly elevated 18, and then in August 2006, my progesterone was 58... very high, but my prolactin was back down to normal. But when I went to a new doctor earlier this week, he said they weren't testing some of my hormones. He seems like a really good doctor, so hopefully he can get somewhere. Too bad he's leaving in a couple of months though. Hopefully whoever takes over his spot is as good as him.
You have done very well with the weight loss! Congrats! Here's hoping for a big O this month!! I just started charting again. It had always been worthless. I charted for about 2 years then through the Clomid, and then for about 6 months after that, about 3 years total... never once Oing... so I quit. I'm surprised I'm doing so good getting back in the swing of it.
Wow... look at me going on and on. You wanted my life story, right? :) lol

Welcome, SBrown! Don't worry about the long posts. I'm guilty of the same crime! Apparently the weight hasn't affected my self esteem too much, as sometimes I post like everyone wants to hear every little detail about me me me!
I can identify so strongly with your feelings regarding PCOS and the frustration of not ovulating. I only ovulated once during fertility treatment despite taking 100mg of Clomid, mixing Clomid with injectables or going to injectables only. I know it is hard to see negative pregnancy tests every month but I think it's even harder to find yourself unable to ovulate, because you know you never even have a chance. This is truly the hardest thing I have ever faced (even harder than weight issues) and I'm sorry to hear it has affected you. Have you thought about moving to more aggressive fertility drugs?
Regarding PCOS - all my blood work has been perfect and I've had many sonograms and have only had cysts after a Clomid cycle, so it looks like I don't have it. I have a few friends who started taking Metformin for PCOS and started dropping weight so quickly and ovulating regularly, and it just made me wish my issues could be treated as well.
See, there I go again with the long post!

Just checking in today. Thanks for the words of encouragement sept15lija. I guess I was just having a rough few days, my plan is to be back on track starting today. I have continued to exercise though so that is a plus.
Welcome SBrown, don't worry about long posts, we all get a little winded sometimes. DH and I have only been TTC for three months really. We were finally at a time in our lives were we thought it would be right. We both changed careers to slow down and moved to a smaller city and bought a house. We are just hoping for some good news on day. Actually TOM is suppose to start anyday now so just playing the waiting game. What a great Christmas present it would be if I were actually pregnant, but I am not getting my hopes up. If AF doesn't come in the next three I will take a test...we'll see!

Sbrown - You talk as much as you want girlie! :) It seems like we're all a little long-winded! Hey that's OK the more we can share the better, right?? Let us know the results of your ultrasound - I hope the new doc is as good as the old one...sucks when you find one you really like and then they leave.
peaceful - Have you asked your doc about Metformin? My doc says I don't have PCOS but he still mentioned putting me on it to make my cycles more regular and also to help me lose weight. I think you can go on it even if you don't have PCOS...but I don't have all the info. I just know my doc said we could try metformin and clomid - although I chose just to do clomid. Not ovulating is a major struggle. I guess I can feel lucky that I can ovulate on clomid - although that hasn't gotten me pregnant either.
dollypie - Glad you're back on track. Good luck with testing - let us know what happens!

Ive been taking a break from the whole dieting thing cause of the hollidays but after Christmas I want to get a whole lot healthier. Dh and I have agreed to start trying for a baby in June so I hope to be at my goal weight by then. Ive been trying to lose weight on and off for 2 years. Its crazy if I would have stuck to it I could have done it in about 4 months. But hopefully I can get healthier and not look like a marshmellow this next pregnancy.

That's right dollypie!!!
Does anyone else go back & forth on the issue in their head? I want a baby so bad it hurts sometimes - most of dreams even involve me being a mother. But then sometimes (usually when I see a weight drop or I'm working out) I think about how hard it will be to see my body expand.
Anyway, I just finished another period - wasn't a chance of conceiving this cycle with dh in Costa Rica for work. Maybe we'll be able to start the new year off with a bang!

Lifeguard, I get those feelings as well all the time. I want a baby so bad and I think about it all the time. When it happens I want to have a healthy pregnancy and to prevent alot of "unnecessary excess weight gain", as my doctor call it, plan to continue to exercise. I biggest concern it how much exercise would be too much exercise and at what intensity to work out at? Anyway I don't need to worry about that right now. Maybe we will start the New Year with a bang!

Hey ladies!
Sarah - Welcome!! Sounds like you have a great plan in place.
Lifeguard - I totally understand...my sister was saying the other day that the only reason I want to lose weight is to have a baby (whatever!!) and I surprised her by telling her that sometimes I think about how I will gain weight after getting pregnant and i really don't want to! But on the other hand, i want a baby so bad and I will definitely deal with it at the time. I am planning on continuing to work out too the same as I do now. The only thing is, what about my calories? Would they need to be increased? I guess so - have to get a professional opinion when the time comes maybe. Love your new avatar pic by the way!
dollypie - Sorry about the BFN. You're right though, another month to lose now. I am 8DPO right now, so I'm telling myself if AF comes that I will be able to maybe get to 210 before the end of next cycle. The more weight off the better, right? And you are so close to goal - maybe you'll get to goal and then get your BFP!
Anyhow just sort of going crazy here waiting for AF or a test date...still have at least another 6 days or so. Hope everybody has very Happy Holidays - I'll check back in before then though.

And I know the weight gain thing is a concern for most women regardless of their start weight - but I do find the idea of losing again daunting! And whenever I hear of someone gaining 70lbs for a pregnancy it scares the *&^# out of me! But like Liz says - deal with it when you come to it.

I'm not sure if you mean continue WHILE pregnant, but of course people continue after pregnancies. This forum is full of them! One of my best friends lost 10 pounds during her pregnancy (not trying, just started eating more nutritious food and all was doctor supervised and supported) and 30 more within a few weeks of the birth. I had a little pity party over that - she used to be my TTC and weight loss buddy, and now I have serious infertility problems and she has a baby AND almost effortlessly lost a lot of weight!
I know a lot of people who have children choose to lose weight, among other reasons, to be more present and available for their children when playing, etc. I plan to continue after a pregnancy.

Hi! I am glad to see a thread for us hopefuls!
I hope to be joining you all soon too.
We just had a miscarriage in the middle of December. It would have been our second child. Our son is 2 1/2. It was very difficult, but I survived better than I hoped. God has been amazing in making everything go as easy and perfect as possible in such a situation. It has really been a wake-up call on mine and my husband's lifestyles. I was low-carbing for 3 months before getting pregnant this time and 1 year before getting pregnant last time. Our midwives actually called it the fertility diet, it helps with infertility due to insulin resistance. Now I am low carb dieting and exercising, which for me is always a hard component to add. I have eliminated all my caffiene and added lots of water in my diet and continue to take my prenatal vitamins. This all seems to have helped eliminate my migranes. All around I feel healthier. When I got pregnant (Nov) I weighed 270 and I have lost since then.
Best of Luck to Everyone TTC. My hubby and I were married 9 years before getting pregnant our first time. Patience is a virtue.

I'm glad I found this group. I weigh 289 and my dh and I are planning to conceive in the next few months. My doctor is very supportive. Though I am dieting and losing pre-conception, once I get pregnant, eating will be healthy to grow a healthy baby, not to lose weight.

Yes things have definitely been quiet...guess everyone's getting back into the swing of things now that the holidays are over.
dollypie - Way to go on the 5 am workout! There's no way I could keep that up, but I am SO not a morning person! I'd rather be at the gym at like 10 pm than 5 am. :)
peacfeul - I really think planning is key. I try to get my DH to help me plan for the week but he is not very into it! Oh well I can plan anyways!
Martha - I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad you're feeling healthier with low carbing, that's great! It's so nice to find what works for each of us.
lessofme821 - Same here, once I get pregnant, I will not be trying to lose weight. My GP is very supportive too which is nice, but my fertility specialist is not quite as good! He is very focused on my weight, which is sort of why I took time off the fertility meds to lose weight, but I'm going to be starting back on them next cycle.
Anyhow ladies sorry I've been MIA and I will be even more so now, I'm going away for work for a week and I'm not sure if I will be able to check in. Anyways talk to you when I get back!

Hello!
I'd like to join this thread as well. I'm 31, was just diagnosed with possibly having PCOS and my OB told me that I either need to go on birth control again or lose 40 pounds before TTC. It wasn't until this past year that the fertility clock really kicked in for me, and I hope i can get pregs without complications. I really had no idea that weight gain could hinder that - so it's a reality check.
mtnheart - I'm so sorry to hear about your loss but I think that you have a fantastic and inspiring attitude! I'd like to try that fertility diet too - I've read a lot of articles that said reducing sugars and caffeine can help with pcos.

I usually am out of bed and at the gym w/n 15 minutes. I cannot eat before I work out because it makes me sick and gives me stomach cramps. When I get home I do have breakfast though. On the weekends if I exercise during the day though I usually have a snack about an hour before.

Hi Ladies!
I would like to join you all in your efforts to lose weight before ttc. I have PCOS. I have had it for about 13 years. I tried to get pg for 12 years with fertility drugs... but no success. My dh and I got divorced and a year or so later I met my current dh. We were married for 3 months when I got pg! Talk about surprised. lol. I had pretty much given up on having children. The only thing I did different was I lost 45 lbs. I wasn't on any meds. I had never been told by my doctor that weight loss was crucial in controlling PCOS symptoms. Anyway... dh and I are gearing up to ttc again. I need to lose 30 lbs to get back to the weight I was when my cycles started again. It is like 180 is my "magic number". In reality... I would like to lose down to 150. But, we will see.
Anyway...I gained with my son. I developed pre-eclampsia and had to be induced 3 weeks early. I don't want to put myself and another child at risk again. I didn't eat healthy during the pregnancy. I have definitely learned my lesson. Oh.. and exercise was non-existant. I just laid around and ate. UGH!! The pregnancy was good up until the end.
Sorry to ramble on and on....
I am glad that there is a place like this to talk to others who are going through the same things.

Well like I said I finally took the step to start looking at why we're not conceiving & had bloodwork & ultrasounds done to see if I have PCOS.
Today (yes, Sunday oddly enough) the dr. office called to tell me about my referral appointment with the ob/gyn. We had decided to try this first 'cause it would be faster than the fertility specialist. Well maybe not so much - my appointment is October 15th. I was so disappointed I started crying on the phone - the poor receptionist - she wasn't bargaining for that.
Anyway - it's made for a not so happy day. I didn't think it would solve anything necessarily but at least I felt like I was taking control. I feel like everyone else is having babies. I know a least a few who have just been married & are just starting to try & it's always so heartbreaking when someone else gets pregnant before me.
Sorry to be so down - I'm just so discouraged.

oh Lifeguard, I'm so sorry. October seems completely outrageous to me - that is 8 months away and you need medical care! When I made an appointment with my RE, I only had to wait a few weeks and I don't think my OB-GYN appointments were ever more than a week or two. Is there any option to use another doctor?
I definitely understand the down feelings and being discouraged. There are babies all around me and it just seems so unfair and frustrating sometimes.
I haven't been posting much but I'm hanging in there. The weight loss is a little slow but I confess I haven't been completely strict about calorie counting. I've been working 70-80 hours a week and I'm completely exhausted, but I have been planning meals, eating well at least 90% of the time and making time for the gym.

I am going to try calling around this afternoon to see if there are better options. I see my regular doc on Wednesday so I want to go prepared with other options.
I am constantly surrounded by babies/children/pregnant women. The most frustrating is when someone starts trying, conceives & has the baby & I'm still here trying. This has happened more than once.
And why is it that women talk about nothing else? My husband wants children as badly as I do but when he's out with friends with kids they mention it occassionally but spend most of the time talking about other things. LOL - this isn't the first time I've been jealous of the man's life!

Hi! Anybody still around on this thread? I've been TTC for three years and recently saw an RE. My progesterone on CD21 was really low, so even though I am ovulating, there is something going on. My doc wants to put me on Clomid next cycle. In the meantime, I've been trying to lose weight seriously since the new year. I've seen lots of health improvements so I can only hope that the weight loss and exercising helps in some way, even if it has no effect on my progesterone level. I certainly hope to keep things up if I do get PG, and would love to have support from others going through the same things!

Hi Lauren!
If your progesterone is low, how do you know you are ovulating? Did the RE confirm using ultrasound monitoring?
I'm still around. Losing slowly, but at least the scale is going in the right direction!

Well, I'm back again. Took a short break while I obsessed over my high temps after ovulation and thought by some small miracle we have conceived right before Clomid - I thought for sure karma was smiling on us. But alas, severe PMS and general depression set in when it was not to be. And now, I'm having to wait another cycle before the doc prescribes the Clomid while my husband gets an infection cleared up (just in case it is affecting his fertility). So, more thumb twiddling for another cycle til he gets an all clear on his semen analysis.
Peaceful - my RE did not use ultrasound monitoring. Just a 7DPO progesterone draw, which was 6.6. He said that indicated a "weak" ovulation and that the Clomid would boost it. I asked about progesterone supplementation and he said no, just the Clomid  So how's it going with you?

HOLY COW! I started this thread in October and its still a living, breathing entity! I'm so impressed! I was gone for several months - my husband and I moved to TN in January and it really threw me for a loop - took me a long time to adjust and feel normal again! But now I am approaching TTC again - we plan to start in August (we're doing artificial insemination). During my rough patch, at least I kept my weight stable. But I would REALLY like to lose at least 30 lbs by the end of the summer, so...I'm back!
Hello to all those who have joined in on this thread since I started it! Hopefully, we can still continue to chat!

Hi everyone. I'm also trying to lose weight to get pregnant. I have pcos. I had my son with the help of clomid and a no sugar diet. I want to lose about 50 lbs before I go back on the clomid. I'm glad I stumbled on this thread...

I set myself an official weight loss goal today - 44 more pounds by the end of the summer and to get ready for TTC. Its a pretty aggresive goal, but I've been maintaining at my current weight for over a year eating lots of junk and being completely sedentary (43 pounds is also just a small dent, but at least its more than 10% - I'll end up at 310 if I can do it))- so with some positive healthy changes and a light cardio and strength training routine should help me make a big difference.
:carrot:
Holdensmom - welcome! I intend to banish the sugar from my diet too - I feel SO much better without it. Glad you're joining us!

Hello! Just wanted to say hello! I also posted in the nursing thread - I am still nursing my daughter about 50% of the time - she is 9 1/2 months old. We want to conceive this summer - probably going to start trying in July. I want to lose some weight before I get pregnant - I don't even care how much - just want to start the next pregnancy on a slightly healthier note than the last... Looking forward to getting to know everyone here!

Hi, Sarah! To some degree I don't think it matters how MUCH you lose - sometimes its just the process of eating healthier and moving more that makes things better for you and your baby! I certainly won't be on the same planet as thin when I conceive, but I will definitely be healthier!
I'm on my 4th day salt and sugar free and the pounds are sliding off :) I'm also in the process of interviewing for an awesome job that I need desperately, so I'm extra tense. Its a weird feeling to be so stressed and not have my standard crutches to rely on - most of the day I feel like my body has decided that since there is no "yummy" food in my stomach it's decided to just eat my internal organs instead - but that's the stress talking. I should know soon if I'll get an offer, so hopefully I can move past that feeling.

Alison - good luck on the interview! That can be so nerve-wracking - I commend you for not turning to food - I don't know if I could be that strong!
I'm already probably 8 or 9 pounds under where I started my last pregnancy - so that is a great start. Of course, the weight is all redistributed, and I actually feel fatter because it's all around the tummy, and my boobs are shot from nursing... Ah - the joys of motherhood...

I was told by my doctor to get to 10 stone (140 lb) if I wanted to get pregnant. I am a Type 2 diabetic too just to add to the mix! I'm trying not to think of the huge goal but to try and think of it 1 stone at a time!
I've never been pregnant and to add to the fun I will be 39 next month, so time is starting to run out for me. I would really appreciate some support. :D

Welcome, Joolie!
Wow - that's a huge weight loss your doctor is asking for (no offense - I'm in the 300's myself). Are you having fertility problems now? I'll be 35 in October and I've never been pregnant (never tried) either - so I understand the pressure you're under, age-wise.
Not to poo-poo your efforts to lose weight (and granted I'm not sure how your diabetes will affect your pegnancy) but you CAN have a healthy pregnancy at higher weights than 140 lbs! Millions of women can attest to that.
Do you plan on waiting until you've reached that goal before you TTC?

Welcome, Joolie!
Do you plan on waiting until you've reached that goal before you TTC?
Not a chance! My mum fell pregnant with me and my twin sister at 14 stone (196lb) so thats the magic number I'm aiming for, just don't tell my husband! :D
I have lost 5 stone before on Slimming World so I know that I can do it, its just that it does seem a lot when you write it down.

Hi ladies!
I have PCOS as many others here do it seems. I've had two healthy pregnancies at a much higher weight than I am now, but I'd love to be in onederland when I start the next pregnancy. We have a 9.5 month old DD right now, and we're not actively ttc, but we aren't preventing either. I'm BFing her. I got pregnant both times with the help of clomid. We'd like to start actively ttc in August, after DD turns a year, but I can't go on clomid until she is 100% weaned. I'd like to take the weaning process slowly, so I don't think we'll be resorting to clomid until sometime in early 2008. We'll start temping and timing in August though. :)
I'm a good portion of the way to my goal of onederland, thankfully. I want to wear all of the cute maternity clothes and not be limited - I found things, but I had to really search!
I'm cycling now, getting my period every 5-6 weeks, but have no idea if I'm actually ovulating or not. It's actually surprising that I'm getting my period at all - I've had to use provera to get it for years! It started well before I started my weight loss efforts, so I can't say that the weight loss has helped in my fertility.

Hello! Can I join in? I just found this thread & read the whole thing. It looks like it used to be fairly active, so hopefully it will pick up again.
I am 28 y/o, DH & I are starting to think more seriously about trying for our first child (been married almost 5 years). I have struggled lots over the years with my weight: I lost about 60 pounds back in high school, only to eventually put it all back on plus quite a bit more; struggled throughout college, trying to lose here & there but never sticking with it for very long. 3 years ago I had an awesome span, lost about 70 lbs or so on my own (healthy eating/portion control, plus lots of exercise). Sadly, within a year after reaching my lowest, I had gained all or nearly all of it back.
Now I know that I am even higher than I was before starting back in 2003. I have reached my breaking point (it's been two weeks now) where I simply said, "I'm not going to live this way any longer. I am so tired of it & can't do it anymore." I don't have the courage to weigh yet, and I'm ok with that for now. I can tell I've probably lost at least a few pounds and that I'm now headed in the right direction again. I think I will judge my progress by the fit of clothing for now; after awhile, I might get brave & decide to weight myself again. I just know I have a long, long way to go (literally about 90-100 pounds is my guess). So, I thought I'd join on here, for community & for inspiration as I work toward my goals for a healthier life & for becoming a mom!
Sorry so lengthy - I hope to get acquainted with you all soon!
Thanks,
Jen

I'm also new to this board, usually I hang out in the 20's support forum. Hi Jenn, I can really relate to your story. I gained the freshman 25 in my first year of college and now 7 years later its still hanging around along with some more extra pounds. My DH and I would like to start trying for a baby in Sept or Oct, but I need to find a good full time job first. I would also like to lose 30lbs before, so I get a good start and not put on even more weight when I'm pregnant. We've been married for 3 years in September, but we have been together for coming up on 8 years.
The thing that scares me is that we have never even had a pregnancy scare in the 8 years we've been together, and we have not always been careful. It scares me to think we might have trouble conceiving, but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Good Luck on your Journey Jenn!

My hubby and I are thinking about ttc around July or August. I have weight to get off, but I'm not getting any younger. He is 33 and I'm 32....I'm 5'9" and we have never tried to have a baby. Been married 12 years. It's about time to do this! I do have a fear of gaining weight. When I got married 12 years ago I weighed 175....I'm a big girl. I just wanna look pregnant when I am pregnant. I love this thread!

Thanks for the welcome! I've never had a pregnancy scare, either, in almost 5 years of marriage, but I did take the pill religiously for the first four. I'm off it now, so things aren't quite as prevented as they once would've been...
I have a feeling that I might have a LOT easier time conceiving once I'm at a more healthy, moderate weight. I remember my mom telling me that even back in the day (early 70's) when she was trying to get pregnant with their first child (my brother, the oldest), it wasn't happening until she lost about 40 lbs and got down to a healthier weight. That is major motivation for me!
I want to see how far I can get toward my goal size, and roughly depending on that, start actively TTC in the spring or early summer of 2008. I'll still be 29 then, though just barely. But I know we still have some time!
Anyone else who is working to lose weight in order to get ready to be pregnant (especially for the first time ever)....how is it going? I am almost through week 3 of my new healthy change and it amazes me how much better I feel....how much better I sleep....I could go on! ;)

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I posted in this thread. It's good to see some new faces - it is amazing how this thread doesn't die!
I was pretty down about not being pregnant for a while, but I've just started my first cycle on Clomid. Just finished up five days worth of 50 mg each and should hopefully be ovulating this weekend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but trying not to get my hopes up too high. It just feels good to be doing SOMETHING that will hopefully get us closer to getting PG!

I am new to this thread. I am getting married in 9 months and I am trying to get healthy so I can have a baby. I am currently on Metformin 1500mg a day. We plan on starting to try in the summer of next year. In december they are going to start putting me on Clomid. The metformin has really helped with the weightloss. I am trying to get rid of my belly fat, this is my goal.

Hi ladies, sorry I haven't been back in a while, but I've been overwhelmed with nausea and fatigue .... because I'm pregnant! :carrot:
I'm 8 1/2 weeks and have already had an ultrasound where I could see the little baby and its heartbeat - then I got to actually listen to it. My doctor says that the chance of miscarriage really decreases once you've gotten to see the baby and hear the heartbeat, so hopefully things will continue to go well.
Right now I'm so sick I'm afraid my good eating habits are a bit out the window, but a lot of my friends say that things get a lot better after the end of the first trimester.
Just wanted to share my good news, and let you all know that I have my fingers crossed for you all to get your BFPs!

Hey gals I have a question.
My goal weight is 145. If I get to this weight before I get pregnant, and aim to gain 30 pounds, that puts me at 175 before I deliver. I'm hesitant to go far above that. Do you think I should wait a little, and try to get down to 140 or 135 before getting pregnant, putting me at 165-170 if I gain 30 pounds during pregnancy, or should I just not be worried about this?!
littlebits
08-30-2007, 10:36 AM
modkittn- if you want to get preg. do so. by while you are waiting to get preg. continue on your exercise regimine. so that way you can lose wait before the baby. then once you are preg. don't gain 30 lbs. exercise through pregnancy and try gaining 20-25. but by exericing through pregnancy you will be able to slim down easier. keep up the good work

I remember posting on a this forum and couldnt even remember the name of the website 3 fat chicks. I posted on this thread in October last year when I was waiting till June to try and conceive. Since January Ive gained 15 pounds. Im at my highest yet. My cycles have gotten longer and longer and I am not ovulating. Im off to the doctor this week to get some clomid. Im going back on my diet tommorow. Im a little afraid to diet because sometimes it stops my period completely. But Im gonna try and do this gradually while ttc baby number 3.

we tried starting last month. though we encountered a huge obstacle.last year a developed a contant period. I couldn't afford a doctor so off to a clinic i went, after different medicines. i changed doctors and now i went off all medicine. All blood test are good. but all of a sudden i started to bleed constantly again. so now i have to stop trying to concieve and return all the little baby things i've bought.
I wanted to hope everything was good. But now back to the doctors. so i know how hard baby making is. i wish everyone well

I haven't started trying yet! I have to wait a couple of months. I need to see my specialist (for the cancer) and have him give the "final" go-ahead. He already said he thinks I'll be just fine, etc but we need to have all the "what if" discussions, like "what if" I come out of remission when pregnant, etc. But he thinks there is a low risk of that and that I will go through the whole pregnancy well. I will keep you gals updated.
littlebits - Good luck to you! Are you seeing a regular GYN now?
Sarah - You say you are the highest weight you have ever been. Have you thought of trying to lose some weight before TTC? I don't know how much you weigh, but I know with obese women, it really helps to lose some weight first. I was in the obese category when I started back on WW and losing weight, but we were thinking about having kids "in a year or so" so I knew I had a lot of time to lose the weight. Good luck to you!

Hi everyone... I was hoping to join this thread!
I got married 9 months ago, wanting to start TTC in another year or two, but in the meantime, I NEED to lose weight! Once I started gaining weight really fast, my cycle was completely out of whack and I think it was hindering my ovulation. My doc put me on the pill, which is fine because I didn't/don't want to get pregnant right now.
I spoke with my gyn last month when I was there for my yearly check up and I told her I was trying to lose weight so that I could get pregnant. She emphasized being in shape and healthy, rather than trying to lose weight, because the "in shape" part will really pay off when I'm actually pregnant.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi!

I tend to see her about every two weeks.something always seems to

i have been looking into adoption if i am not pregnant by about july 08.

Hope you all don't mind me jumping in here! DH and I want to start to try concieving in June 08. We have 2 babies so far. I weighed 225 when I got pregnant with our first baby.... gained 20 pounds with that pregnancy. Got pregnant 4 months after having our first baby - my weight was 252. Gained only 10 pounds with that pregnancy. When we went in to the hospital to have baby #2, I weighed my highest ever...262. Day after she was born, I was 235. ANYWAY - both of our first babies were complete surprises! (apparently myself and DH are extremely fertile). So, for the 3rd one, we decided we both want to be good and healthy. I was really fortunate that I didn't have any pregnancy complications due to being obese with my first 2 pregnancies... (not even morning sickness - though I know that's not weight related!). But, I don't want to push my luck. SO.... here I am! I'm on WW and have lost 10 pounds on that in the past month alone! DH has lost 71 pounds since January. So, we're making a really big effort.
My reasoning for getting pregnant in June.... some may think it's silly.... Our firstborn was born in January.... second baby in February.... so, we're trying for a March baby. Yes, I know it's crazy  but, that's us. :D And, I know that the chances of it happening are slim.... but we're gonna go for it!
My goal weight is 165. I want to be 165 by the end of March, first of April. That way I can try to maintain it for a good solid couple of months before we start TTC. If I lose more by June - even better. I wanted to be down enough in weight, that I wouldn't go back over 200 pounds while pregnant.

Hey ladies, I hope you are all doing well. I went to my yearly checkup with my hematologist/oncologist and was advised against getting pregnant for at least another year. I was really upset and still am. I've wanted to have kids for 5 years now, waited about 3 for DH to be ready, and now we've been waiting for 2 years since I got sick and was diagnosed. I feel great and am in remission, but the doc wants me to be in remission at least another year before I go off the medication while pregnant. We are considering adoption, as we think it might be best to be in remission for even longer before going off the medication and conceiving. I'm still trying to lose weight, though and I still want to be as healthy as possible. Good luck to you all :)

I know exactly how you feel. I have been trying IUI and retrieval only once when we tried in-vitro. My doctor new my weight, obviously she has eyes, but never made it an issue until now. I was upset that noone just didn't say "hey you, you need to lose all that fat around your ovaries" but i guess my insurance was too pretty to pass up. Now i am trying to lose weight, she said 10% but i have a feeling I will definetly need to lose more. if you ever get discouraged not just about weight but with infertility let me know, you can always ask for my email address.. I feel like my life is about shots and time clocks. Good luck i hope to hear from you or anyone else who knows how hard it can be.

Hi,
I would very much like to join this thread. I'm 34 and was married this past July. DH and I are hoping to begin ttc in the Fall - but a couple of things need to happen first.
We need to move and are hoping to have our own place, we currently rent a smallish one bedroom. Great for savings, but no place for a baby to live. Second little thing, I need to shed about 70 pounds. I'd like to get to 120 which is in the ideal range for my height, but I carry a fair amount of muscle so I'll be comfortable with that number being a bit higher as long as my body fat percentage is in an ok range to ttc.
I've begun working with a coach who puts together a weight training & nutrition profile for me and so far, so good.

My husband and I are TTC, too. We just started last month. I have PCOS and my monthly cycle is way out of whack. It's so frustrating to not work properly. I am hoping to conceive in the next year like many of you, but I also have a substantial amount of weight to lose. Preferrably, I would like to be closer to my goal weight when/if I get pregnant. Plus the weight loss will probably help me to conceive, also.
Good luck to you all!

I'm so glad to see this thread. I'm trying to lose weight before we get pregnant with our second child. My son was born 10 weeks early last year due to some complications and I want to do everything in my control to see that my 2nd is not premature as well! Seems like a long road ahead to lose 50 lbs! I'm already frustrated! I started the healthly eating lifestlye change 2 weeks ago (i.e. more exercise, portion control, more veggies) and I seem to have gained weight - not exactly motivating...

Just recently I got out of de Nile, dried myself off and realized, that I STILL have PCOS, I am STILL OBESE, and it isn't helping anything. So, I have dropped 35 lbs, on my way to under 165. Once I get to 165 buddy watch out.. baby time. Hopefully AF comes back when the weight comes off. I will be able to see a DR and not just be told to lose weight. Hopefully I won't have to see anyone, thats my hope.

I was part of this thread a LONG time ago, I now have a 15 month old, and am TTC'ing again! I want to lose as much weight as possible before getting pregnant (I tend to take a LONG time to get pregnant....hopefully this time it doesn't take as long, it was over 2 years for my son). I did lose weight (got down to 195) which proved to make things work for conceiving my son (along with the help of a fertility doc)...so hopefully it'll work again. I'd love some buddies!

I've taken Clomid before, several times actually and it was in pill form. I didn't know if there is a injection form of Clomid or is there an injection you take with Clomid?
Thanks.

Sassy - I don't know about clomid coming in a shot form, I wonder if perhaps they're giving you something else along with the clomid? I haven't had clomid in over 2 years though, so who knows. Let us know!
LandonsBaby - We can if you want, doesn't matter to me...or we can keep this one going, whatever works best for everyone.
I have an appointment with my fertility doc on Monday. I'm not sure what he'll say because last time I was there I was VERY irregular on my cycles, but right now I am every 30-33 days so pretty regular. I don't know if I'm ovulating on my own because I haven't started temping yet, I keep meaning to...I should start tomorrow I'm still early enough in my cycle to.
