2 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled.
1 Tbsp. olive oil
¼ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. freshly ground pepper

1. Preheat oven to 450F. Halve potatoes and cut into ½ inch wedge. Toss with the oil, salt and pepper in medium bowl.
2. Arrange the potatoes in a single layer on a nonstick baking sheet. Bake, turning once until browned and crip. About 35-40 minutes. Serves 4.

** This tastes great with plain yogurt mixed with a squirt of lime juice for a dip.

i just got a thicker potato (more like an idaho potato shape) - peeled it, cut it width-wise (about 1/4 inch) and then cut those "medallions" into strips.

definitely needs a sharp knife are much CARE.

These are fabulous! I can't say enough good things about them. I, too, sliced them into matchsticks and served the yogurt-lime sauce (with a few dashes of hot sauce because I can't help myself). I had a hard time not sneaking them out of the oven! Served them as a side with a veggie burger patty and oven-roasted asparagus and my sweetie said, "Well, if we eat like THIS every night I'm not going to have any problems!" Thanks so much, Jenn!

These fries are awesome. I put a little garlic salt on them before I cooked them and they turned out great. We thought we weren't going to like them but they are great. Thanks for the recipe.

This was awesome! I sprayed it with Pam instead of the EVOO and only put Garlic Salt rather than what the receipe stated though!

This was sooooo good and too me was just like eating chips! I encourage everyone to try this it really is worth it!:carrot:

True yams are found mainly in South America or somewhere like that. What you saw in the store are probably sweet potatoes (usually have an orange colored flesh).

Yes they are basically the same thing. We call them YAMS down her in South Louisiana (some people even call them sweet potatos).

I purchased both of them and they are the same thing just grown in different parts of the coutry (I beleive):)

Loved the sweet potato fries...I sprinkled mine with chili powder and they were awesome, kinda sweet and hot.
Thanks

I made these last night. I sprinkled matchstick sized strips with allspice, nutmeg, and a little salt since I like my yams more as a "dessert". I also turned on the broiler for the last 5 minutes, flipping them every minute, and they came out crispy and delicious!

These sounds so good...how do you make the yogurt dip?

Traditional Greek Yogurt dip is:
*Plain Yogurt, strained - put in a cheese cloth lined strainer that is laying atop a bowl, leave in fridge until excess liquid has passed through into the bowl. You are aiming for the consistantcy of sour cream.
*Garlic, minced - fresh is better
*Cucumber, peeled, seeded, and diced
*Lemon Juice - just enough to zing it up

Mix and enjoy. Use amounts you are comfortable with - I personally like a lot of garlic - you may not. You may add addtional seasonings to the dip - whatever sounds good to you.

the broiler idea sounds good. I just made them and some were nice and crunchy, but the ones that were stuck together weren't. I'd either put less sweet potato or use the broiler next time. I cut them about as thin as fast food fries. I put Valentina hot sauce in the yogurt/lime dip, tasted good. Thanks for the recipe.

Tried these again the other night, but I switched to wedges (like the recipe says). They were much better than the thin fries.

i know in Phase 1 u cant have dried fruits. i was thinking about throwing some potato chip sliced sweet potatos on the dehydrator. is this allowed?

I don't think there would be anything wrong with that - it sounds rather yummy. The only reason I can think of not being allowed to have dried fruits in phase 1 is because of the increased sugar content. I say go for it!

Hi... I am considering the Fat Smash diet.

I have not purchased the book.. will do so as soon as I can get some extra money. I saw some frozen sweet potatoe fries in the frozen food section. You can just pop them in the oven. Is this safe for phase one. Or should I get the fresh sweet potatoes.

desperate2feelgood

I don't see why not. The frozen one's should be fne. I think the diet is fairly easy. Especially if you like beans and brown rice. I really like it. I'm on a fast right now, but as soon as it's over I'm back to the Extreme Fat Smashers.

I'm really looking forward to making these ^^ I love a good sweet potato in general, and have been to a restaurant that makes them into homemade sweet potato chips, but have never done this myself.

I do, however, make green been fries! DH and I love them as the side for almost any dinner. More or less the same way - fresh green beans, cut off the ends, toss with a small amount of EVOO and cracked salt and pepper. Lay them flat in the oven, stick in at 350 until they start to brown.

Would anyone who tried this recipe recommend sprinkling some splenda on the fries, or are they sweet enough???

I use the orange sweet potatoes, which are usually plenty sweet all by themselves.

You can use this same technique with Butternut Squash and it's super yummy! I got that idea from Hungry Girl, and it's definitely a fave of mine. I am starting EFS tomorrow and will definitely be doing this with both the sweet potato and butternut squash.
