I tried to reply yesterday but the little laptop is on its way to laptop heaven.

 Michelle sorry about your dad, I hope things go as well as can be expected.

 Sarah - hope your leaky bits are fixed soon!

I'm doing brillo! I ate really well last week - I'm down a pound and THE DRESS FITS :hyper: YAY ME! I tried it on and flounced around in it and put all my bling on with it, and tried the shoes on and I look fantastic :D ;) So I just have to keep an eye on my food, and exercise lots and all should be well with the world!

Yesterday I ate a little bit too much, a couple of gingerbread men (not too many though) an extra bowl of cereal and a bakewell tart, but I was bored and missing my man :dunno: No excuse! Anyway, back to it today, and it's NEW GYM at lunch :hyper:

Kali - I do love your dress - it's fab! Are you having a big fairy-tale church wedding?

Lynne - sounds like a plan, however it IS slow losing the last few pounds. Very VERY slow! So just keep at it!

Woo Hoooooo! I slept in my own bed last night for the first time in a week! We can't turn the water on, though, so I'll be going back to MIL's later today. :( I had to come back to meet the plumber (whose finally back off his holiday) I'm just waiting for him now. I've also got loads of eBay parcel wrapping to do :( (my least favourite job!)

Nope - its not an expensive problem for us - it will be VERY expensive for the plumber's insurance company though (or the plumber if he doesn't want to make an insurance claim). The shower used to be a large walk in cupboard which we converted in to a sort of wet-room with the walls all double layered and sealed then tiled, with the pipework (where the leak was) all running under the bottom layer. Then, the rest of the bathroom was tiled after the wet-room thing was installed so if he rips out the wet-room walls a load of the main bathroom wall tiles and flooring will also have to be replaced. Then there's the damage to the kitchen ceiling..... and all the electrics..... Its so depressing.

In the meantime I have had a fair amount of walking-type exercise with the dogs but my diet has gone to **** in a handcart. MIL's cooking definitely isn't low-fat or low-GI - and, as far as she is concerned, calories are one of life's big mysteries. I'm not going to complain though, she has put me and the dogs up and completely refuses to let me do any of the cooking or give her any money towards my keep. Every time I try to give her some she has a tearful and says its just wonderful having me/us to stay! I'm going to have to think of some way of dealing with this because she's on a pension and its making me feel VERY guilty - anyone got any suggestions??

Oh Michele - I am so sorry about your Dad  I hope you feel better very soon.

You girls both look stunning in your wedding dresses! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Frus, I love the idea of the single red rose.

Veggie - my family are the same as yours - they'd never mention weight gain either (or loss).

Peacock - your nan sounds like my MIL - not happy to let you leave the table until she can see you are completely stuffed. She's very fond of suet puddings.

Helen - LOL at your Mum! Bless her, she only has your best interests at heart (as she sees it)

You could offer to go grocery shopping for her? Then you can 1) buy healthy food and 2) pay for the stuff you're eating.

Sarah Ann
10-02-2006, 04:38 AM
I suggested something similar to DH who mentioned it to her - my idea was to order stuff from the Sainsbury website today and get it delivered to her house tomorrow - but she got upset. I'm definitely taking back a load of fruit with me, though.

10-02-2006, 04:42 AM
In that case I'd graciously accept her offer of food. I think some people are proud about things like that. Perhaps you can buy her something nice as a thank you when you are all sorted at your place.

10-02-2006, 06:02 AM
Yeah, maybe a nice big bouquet of flowers??

Maybe when things are back to normal you could invite her to stay one wekend and cook for her. Mind you she would probably want to 'help'. Lol!!

Sarah Ann
10-02-2006, 06:16 AM
Well - thats sorted! He (the plumber) is starting work tomorrow to fix our house. Yayyy! He's a nice man and a well respected local plumber so we didn't think there would be a problem. He agrees that he's got to rip out all the walls of the shower/wet room and pretty much start again AND he pointed out that the water had seeped through in to the landing carpet next door to the bathroom - so he's going to replace that as well. The dogs and me should be able to move back in by the end of the week but DH has said he wants to sleep here ASAP from when the water gets put back on (at the moment he's staying with a colleague from work.)

Good idea about getting MIL over here for a visit. I did wonder about getting her some Daniel O'Donnell stuff but she's got LOADS of it - she seems to have hundreds of his videos - which she plays pretty much all day/every day. I wonder if he's doing any concerts any time soon - maybe I could get her a couple of tickets. :?: She's also mad keen on Beatrix Potter but she's got loads of that kind of thing as well - its a problem to get her something she hasn't already got.

Sarah Ann
10-02-2006, 06:31 AM
Sorted! Just got a couple of tickets from Ticketmaster for Daniel O'Donnell on the 10th December in Manchester (she lives in Wigan - so not too far away!) All I've got to do now is persuade her to take her groupie friend along with her and not me.

I'll have to arrange transport for them. I wonder how much one of those stretch limo's cost to rent for the evening... I wouldn't know where to even start looking for one of those! :) :)

Good morning everyone

Your all set now for the big day Frus dress fits your looking good all is well. Lovely to see you again Sarah I think I must have missed the post about the leak. Glad your ok though and what a treasure your mother-in-law is.

I am about to go out to lunch with some friends for her birthday I intend having something really nice. My weight is still steady fluctuating betweene nine stone nine and a bit and nine stone 10 I am thrilled. My exercise hasn't been that good and now my chest is so bad I think I will leave the gym until it feels less tight. I go back to work on Wednesday so I can get the doctor to listen to it and she can tell me if I need to get antibiotics.

Have a lovely day everyone

Take good care

I'm feeling determinded and inspired today with my food, I've been eating well the last few weeks, although I haven't exercised much.

It was my God-sons Christiening yesterday, he's such a cutey, hehe. The parents bought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers which was a lovely surprise.

How's everyone else doing?

Yes indeed, it is October, I'm off to curves in a mo, but tought I'd pop in quickly before I go. Bo**ocks, I just dribbled coffee in the keyboard...do you suppose it will be all right?

I've had a piggy weekend and it's showing on the scales...we went to a suedo British pub on Saturday, it was a lovely place, and our table was by the window looking out on to the sound of Nantucket, so we ate and chatted while watching sail boats out and about, it was a lovely sunny day too, so made it more enjoyable. I had a turkey and leek pastie (although they spelt it pasty) wigh chips, it was very delish but of course huge and I brought it home and ate it at dinner time too...so we won't be going there very often I can say that for sure.

Sarah, glad to hear that the plumbing should be sorted by the end of the week, your MIL sounds lovely, and your gift to thank her is a wonderful idea, just google limo's and I'm sure you'll find something to hire in there.

Michelle, keep your chin up, we're all thinking about your Dad, wish him well please.

Frus, where's your man then? Glad to hear the dress is fitting nice and you're happy with it...I love the sound of the single stem rose, we had single stem something or other in a wedding I was in last year and it was very sophiticated and looked very nice in all the photo's.

Ok, must get dressed and go to curves, the only things working out are my fingers here, although, saying that, my rings are all getting lose

Michele - my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

Frus - Thank you. You are right, I am getting down to the last few lbs. I hadn't even realised it, I'm only 18lbs away from goal. Ohmygod. You put it into perspective for me this morning .

Sarah - sorry about your leak. Are you sure you haven't pissed off a bunch of gypsies of late?. Things will get better, all the bad stuff always seems to happen at once then the good stuff starts again. Chin up!

It's Monday. I hate Monday's and this morning in my 4.30am, got to get to the gym, not woken up yet haze, I picked up the remains of DH protein pancake that he had for brekky yesterday, instead of my pristine pancake I made last night. :barf:. Oh well!

There I was typing away, and when I sent, there was loads of posts, took me a mo to figure out that they were from Sept link, I thought everyone was racing to get a post in :)

Curves was good, I was a bit earlier this morning, so saw some new faces, I guess I'll have to be there a while for them to talk to me though, they do the cursory nod and some say hello, but I'm def. feeling like a newbie, which I am, at this one. I need a friend :(

Well done for getting into your dress, mine still doesnt fit, although its better than it was 3 weeks ago, I can almost do it up, if it wasnt for my boobs - anyone know of any exercise I can make them a couple of inches smaller lol!
We're having a registry office do, also a pagan handfasting. Not having a big reception - cant really afford one - so a local pub is doing quite a reasonable deal :)

I'm back from Kent with a sore hip. I run a marathon and my legs are fine, I spend 2 nights on a camp bed curled around like a contortionist to accommodate 2 cats who are confused as to why I've stolen their bed, and I stiffen up! Still, I managed a 5 mile run this morning, so it can't be too bad.

I'm planning to go back to the gym tomorrow for the first time in weeks. The scales are at the gym. Eek!

still, at least I have tree swinging to look forward to :D

Smart thinking Sarah Ann- I hope you don't have to go to see the man with your MIL (my idea of **** - no! not your MIL but the DD man). I remember on Father Ted either himself or someone like one was guest starring. It was a great episode - all those women after him. He he.

Hello everyone.

Michelle - I am so sorry about your Dad, my thoughts are with you

Sarah - 4 days of suet pudding type things! I hope your house looks good as new again. The tickets are a lovely idea for thanking your MIL

Frus - Well done on getting into the dress, that is fantastic. I knew you could do it. I just got into a previously too tight pair of jeans for the first time this weekend, not remotely the same, but still a great feeling!

I ran my 10K this weekend. I did it in 1hr and 5mins, which I'm very pleased with. The weather wasn't as bad as predicted, only a couple of showers which were actually quite nice and cooling, and I managed to get up all the hills while still running.

I'm getting pretty excited and nervous about South America now. I've had the occasional bad night's sleep but I'm happier now that I'm getting my stuff together. I haven't got trousers yet though, that is this weekend's depressing job. I've managed to squeeze myself into a 10 on the top half (YAY! :carrot: ), but just over a week ago the size 14s were too tight on the bottom half :( . I hope all my crazy running in the last couple of weeks has helped.

YP1
10-03-2006, 07:29 AM
Well done on the 10k, that's a really good time for your first 10k, particularly one with hills! Faster than my first attempt anyway!

Sarah, I'll leave the suet pudding to you. I'm trying to educate my mother a bit more at the moment (dropping gentle hints, like when she was going to cook blue cheese and walnut pasta suggesting that I might prefer something which had at least seen a vegetable at some point), and I'm getting there slowly.

I'm worried about myself. I have just found myself writing a list of races that I might want to do next year, to work out when another marathon would fit in best :dizzy:

I weighed this morning, I seem to be sitting nicely at 11 stone, no real change from last time I weighed myself weeks ago.

Still no photos from Berlin for my race number. I thought I was going slowly enough that they'd have managed to catch me at some point! :(

Morning :).

Spinning for me this morning which went very well. Our regular Tuesday Sadist, er I mean Instructor, was out today so we had a new gal teaching us. I loved her class, she really emphasised getting the movement right rather than pedelling flat out. It's a shame she doesn't teach regularly anywhere near me though :( .

Good job on that 10k Pachyderm! My running has fallen by the wayside now that I've taken up spinning.

Suet pudding Sarah Ann mmmm! I used to love steak and kidney suet pudding pie! Yes, that pie is cooked in cheesecloth btw, helps keep it moist if I remember correctly. You can make it through the next 4 days I know you can.

It was customer appreciation day at the gym this morning and they had free muffins and juice in the lobby so of course I helped myself to a blueberry muffin and o.j. Oh well, I am trying to eat more these days after all  and yes I realise that a muffin probably isn't the best padding to use! I might just eat half of it ;).

Sorry for drive-by non-finished post yesterday! I can't even remember Monday now! Yesterday was gym before work - a crackin' leg workout gromit, then food tasting at the Barbican :T Ooooooooooooooooooh it was sooooooooooo good! I had two puddings! Then I went kickboxing and tried not to get hit in the stomach and tried not to look too tipsy!

I'm still full - I've just had my breakfast of a bit of pineapple!!! I think it might've been that I ate cereal before bed last night! Oh and gingerbread men... And I seem to remember I bought some Reeses peanut butter cups for on the bus!   That dress will be bursting if I carry on! Needless to say - lots of gym today!

The parental unit is coming on Thursday until Saturday. I have Friday off work for shopping, but MUST NOT EAT LIKE A PIG. Last time they stayed for the weekend I put on half a stone and am still trying to take it off!!!! :tantrum:

I had a bit of a shock yesterday, there's a group of us (3 couples) that hang out on the weekends alot, the guys were originally my husbands friends, and then the wives kind of became part of the group. Well, one of the couples has been together for maybe 10-12 years, and yesterday she left him. It was a real shock as they seemed so close and like they had it together so much, they were trying for a baby too.

I guess I'm just shocked, I'm meeting with the girl today, and my husband is going to see her husband tomorrow to support them a bit, but I really can't believe it.

I had my first weigh-in at Rosemary Conley last night, I lost 3lb.

I stuck to the plan to the letter, I was hungry at first but I got used to it by the end of the week, feel I'm eating healthy, for the first time in ages.

I've had a good think about where I've been going wrong in the past.

1, I say I'm on a diet, but carry on eating normally after the first couple of weeks.
2,When I read the amount of calories in the recipes given I always think,I can't live on that and don't give them a try.
3, I never do any exercise as well, as the diet.
4, This is obvious, I don't give my full commitment.

I think going to a meeting will spur me on and I really going to give it a go this time.

As I'm feeling so positive, did anyone see on diet doctors last night the woman who had been taking xenical?
She said, taking diet pills ruined her life, but she did,nt seem to change her eating habits as well, and wondered why she put all the weight back on when she stopped taking them.
If it was as easy as that we could all just take a pill, and eat what we liked?

I'm also thinking about going to curves as we have a couple locally. can anybody give me some info on it?

Carole

Carole, well done on your weight loss.
Im taking Xenical, but also eating low fat and not eating refined carbs and sugar. Im having about 1400 cals a day (I dont count them as such, but Ive been using fitday and thats what its been coming up to). Also doing some exercise, but nothing too strenuous because of my size lol. Some people just take the Xenical as an excuse to carry on eating as normal but thats not how it works, and besides if you eat a lot of fat you get nasty side effects!
BTW, what is curves?

Snap Chunky Carole

I had my first Rosemary conley class today , it went really well , my start weight is 19st 12lbs //278lbs//126.1kg which is 1lb off from last weeks dr's weight in , i loved it , i was unsure if i could do the aerobics today as i had an HSG yesterday and i was in a lot of pain yesterday and in the night but this morning i felt much better just a little crampy i took 2 co-dyromol and got right on that horse and i loved every secound of it the aerobics/salsacise class afterwards was excelent and a brilliant workout i cant wait to go again. I am not worrying too much about the 2 week thing as im already on 1200 calorie intake per day i may just have to amend a few things here and there.

Carole : I have searched the leaflet and cant find out how much fruit a day your alowed , do you have any idea , cos all it says its 100cals for 2 extra portions ???I love fruit but i dont wanna eat if it its cutting into my dinner lol.

Bigbird : you go girl , dont let know one run you down , people that do that normally dont have an ounce of decency anyway. Just do it to show off.

Neleh : I hope the meetings with the other halfs goes ok :)

Kalijack : I was thinking the same thing lol , What are Curves ?

2frustrated : It sounds like you have had an eventfull week hunni , im sure you will lose that half a stone in no time especially if your running around like a blue arse fly doing this and that it will drop off.

Well done Carole and Treezuk, seems like RC will be the plan for you.

Carole, I am a curves member, I love it! It's so easy, only takes thirty minutes of your day, I have never had a day when I've gone, that I felt I was making myself go, as I used to with the gym (mind you, that was being surrounded by fit GI's and I hated being the fat woman who I thought everyone felt sorry for, puffing away on the weights and treadmill).

Curves is for women only and even though I am still battling with weight loss, or lack of it, because all the machines are resitance, not weighted, you can definitely feel and see the inches come off and your body change shape.

Everyone there is in the same boat, they're all very friendly and the staff are incredibly helpful in all sorts of matters, I've made some very good friends over the years, I'm on my third different curves due to moves in the past couple of years, but they all welcome you like one big happy family.

You get measured and weight along with your fat count once a month, and they print out your results for you, it's very satisfying to see all the numbers, especially on a down slope :) You can go for a free trial before signing up... ask when you phone or go in, they'll give you all the details. Hope this has answered some of your queestions.

On another subject, I'm having a 'quart' of wood delivered shortly, have no clue how much it is but I shall be a busy beaver putting it in the shed, ready for our lovely fireplace evenings as the cooler weather draws in.. it's supposed to be 80 here today, and down to 59 on Friday, time to pull out the lovely big chucnky jumpers :)

Have a good one all...

Morning :).

Well done Carole and Treezuk.

I am feeling very sexah today. I am wearing this gorgeous little eggshell blue cashmere sweater that I bought THREE years ago because it was on sale for $15 (!! CASHMERE !! FIFTEEN !!). Of course, when I bought it back then I was 40lbs heavier than I am now so I looked like the Incredible Hulk bursting out of it. It was my "reward" item of clothing for when I lost weight.

It fits lovely today though. It is also a size Medium :D. I'm also wearing my new size 12 pinstriped pants and sexy little pointy toed shoes with the kitten heel. I might just go for a stroll around the mall for nothing in particular today!

I'm not familiar with Curves so can't comment on how it works but I would have thought there wouldn't be much different between resistance and weights on machines, no?

BritinNJ Thanks for the Curves info.
My friend has just told me about a new gymphobic, which is opening near us, it sounds the same women only etc. She promises to come with me when she gets paid at the end of the month, because she's broke already. Been paid 5 days ago!!!

Treezuk I think you can have as much fruit as you want, as long as you stay in your calorie allowance. You can also swop your extra salad, for a fruit as well if you like. I'm not a big fruit lover, (a big bread lover maybe) but I do like bananas which is shame because you can only have one instead of the 2 extra.

Still doing well.

Oh dear Sarah Ann - you MIL is saboutaging your diet, isn't she? Look on it as a reward though for all the crap that has happend to you. That is probably how she looks on it too! I used to get a veggie suet pudding thing from Holland & Barrett. I was in a big tin and probably enough for a family of 4 or at least 2 very greedy people. I did make it last 2 days though (under Mum's watchful eyes). I am not sure if they make it now and I doubt it would be any less calorific than your MIL's, darn it! When the westher gets colder we shall be thinking of warming puds (sweet and savoury!).

The Frnchman at work has been shopping, bought the Evening Primrose oil liquid I asked for and given me a present of Oral B Brush aways. I suppose I could feel offended!!! However, these are great. You put one on your finger and brush your teeth with it if you have no toothbrush handy - like at work. They are disposable and although cannot clean as well as a brush and floss they do make your mouth feel good!

Good evening to you all

I am full up just ate two mushroom burgers and a massive plate of broccoli annnnnnnnnnnnnd before that i had a slice of toast with lurpak on ooh how lovely was that.

You know bigbird I get exactly the same thing. Oh you dont' need to lose anymore your slim now. You will be look skinny etc etc. I had originally wanted to get to nine stone 7lbs but I am now nine stone 10lbs so have decided to go for a nine stone target. Which is reasonable I am a little thing not blessed with height unfortunately. Just carry on you do your twenty and I will do my ten. Mind you I could be at it for another two years to get that off!!

Well done to you all I got very lazy this week I've hardly moved although this morning was my first day back at work since last Friday and I walk a good bit of the way and it was lovely to walk. I went to the GP last night and he said my chest is clear and it is my throat and ears. So tomorrow I shall head back to the gym.

Lynn you foxy chick. I was looking at shoes myself this evening but I had to stop myself I have so many and my Conor is going to Barcelona with the school in February and its a bit pricey.

Enjoy the rest of your evening everyone

What's the difference? :dunno:

LOL! I didnt explain that very well did I/ Becasue it's not weighted, as in weights attacched to machine,s your muscles are unlickely to bulk, just sort of tone and stretch out, and the resistance you use, is based on your weight, and how much you work it, not the weight of actual weights...does this make it a bit clearer? Probably not, but that's how I understood it...and any exercise you do will make your body shape change, I realise this, so in effect, any movement we do, anytime anywhere will help us in the long run....ok, now I can see all my spelling mistakes, but I need to go and start humping wood into the shed, as I had a delivery this morning and the men told me to let it sit in the sun all day to dry out, I would have had it done by now....but I follow orders for the most part :)

I had a surprisingly good run today, about 5.5 miles (the longest since Berlin) on a slightly hillier route than normal. I felt far more comfortable than I have done since the cold hit before Berlin so I might finally have shaken it off in time for Amsterdam. I can hope! I don't like this running in the dark thing though, the pavements round here aren't particularly even and I nearly tripped a couple of times. And as for running in the park, I tried that yesterday and then realised there aren't any lights. Not fun when 2 dogs started chasing me!

Also bought another size 10 top yesterday, I could get used to this :D

Work do last night, I had a bit of wine and some sandwiches, but nothing too nasty. Nothing that stopped me getting out of bed for my run anyway.

Hello all!

I'm feeling a little below-par and not particularly positive about my healthy eating scheme for the next few days.

Yesterday I think I was fighting off DF's cold. Today I am feeling a little bit better and I'm going to the gym and kickboxing.

The 'rents are coming tonight :yikes: and we are shopping on Friday and Saturday and on Sunday I have a 10K run in Hyde Park, it's that Nike run London one. I'm in a green Norf t-shirt!!

Mum is hoping to get her MOTB outfit at the weekend and Dad wants to buy his suit, so it sounds like a day in M&S!!! I also want to buy DF a Thomas Pink shirt, but I don't know quite how expensive they are :dunno:

Helen your post reminded me of my running the dark issues.

I decided to run Thursday after my class (I'm in grad school) and my school is right on the ocean. I wore my running stuff to school and we got out about 6 so off I went. I had done about 4 miles and it was starting to get dark....then I saw rats. Like not one rat, multiple rats frolicking in the bushes.

I almost had a STROKE, and I wasn't that close to a path back to my car. I ended up running on something like a highway back to my car. Annoying because I felt like I could have run at least 2 more miles but I was way too panicked. No more running after school for this chick.

My 10k is Monday and I have one concern. I need new sneakers, I'm wondering if I should wait until after the race or get them this weekend. I'm thinking I should wait, probably not too bright to run in brand new ones???

YP1
10-05-2006, 07:28 AM
It depends - if they're a style you've used before it can be done (I ran a 10k in brand new trainers once without any problems), but if they're a new style it's best leaving them until after the race. Some people say that even ones you've tried before aren't best for racing in, but I guess it all depends what you're trying to achieve in the race. For me, the race I wore the new shoes in was one I wasn't intending to run fast because of the weather anyway, so I was happy that they'd be good enough to get me round. And they were better than the alternative which was my old ones which had died midway round a half marathon the weekend before. I knew that the old ones would rub, at least the new ones had a chance of not rubbing, and even if they did rub they wouldn't have been worse than the old ones if you see what I mean.

I discovered something quite ground breaking about my mother when she came for her visit last month, the woman actually likes shopping and can put up with me looking round every shop and taking forever. Typical of me to discover this asset of hers AFTER I leave home and the UK.

It's raining here too, rained all day yesterday too, though we do need it. It's been a very dry summer over here, our vegetable garden didn't product much at all.

Kylie - I hope everything works out okay for you.

Well.... I'm back home - I slept for 10 hours last night! Its a bit like a building site here but almost everything is working now except for the shower and fixing that looks like its going to be an even longer job than it was installing it. :( It was lovely to get back to my normal morning walk routine - me and the furry boys walked for 2 and a half hours this morning - but, what with MIL's suet puddings AND my holiday Cornish cream teas, I know I've gained back quite a bit of weight. Nevermind, there's noone to blame but myself.

I've decided to ditch the strange eating plans and go back to what I was doing this time last year when I was regularly losing weight - which was long brisk walks, low GI food and strict PORTION CONTROL. It worked for me then so hopefully it should work for me again. :crossed: I must have a look at the Rosemary Conley GI Jeans diet - it sounds very similar and I could do with some new recipes.

I spent yesterday planning my food for this week - porridge topped with blueberries for brekkie, fruit for snacks, roasted med veg with crumbled feta or falafel with hummous salads for lunch and some ultra healthy, low GI dinners with lots of beans/lentils, a little low fat protein and LOADS and LOADS of fresh veg! DH took one look at it and commented that its going to be very windy around here. :dizzy:

OMG, I am SO glad to be home!

Sarah I havent even had my brekkie yet I've been to the gym but your food for the weeks sounds wonderful and my mouth is watering. I am always a bag of wind!!!

Hope all is well with you all. Not much happening here. A quiet weekend planned every Saturday for a good few weeks I have been out. Completely missed X Factor oh what a big saddo I am sometimes. The boys are out
eldest fella is at footie youngest fella is at his friend's house. Had a letter from his school this morning saying he had been rude to his maths teacher.
Eldest fella constantly spoke and distracted the others from the first year of seniors to the the third year. Now he works like a trojan but the stress of that school constantly phoning me was awful. Now it seems as If I shall be going through it all over again with the little fella oh what joy!!!

Little fella doesn't know about the letter he stayed at a friends house last night and the letter arrived this morning!!!

Have a lovely Saturday everyone.

Hope the sun is shining on you all

Sarah Ann : Good to hear your house is all sorted now hun.Planning your food sounds like a great idea im not sure if id 1) have the patience to do that and 2) if when it came to it something would go wrong lol.

Michele : sounds like your little ones in for a bit of a shock when he get in to find the letter there.Good luck for this week with your weightloss.

Moo : What a bargin hun , i could never get something that cheap , only thing i ever brought was a jacket that was suppose to be £54.99 in new look and i got it for £3 in new look which i guess is good too only thing was it didnt fit when i brought it but for £3 i wernt going to grumble so i said mum could have it and shes never warn it but i think i only got one more dress size and ill proberly fit into it lol.Good luck with your weight loss this week.

Homersmummy: its so great to finally put a face to a name , maybe we should all post pics so we know what each other looks like.Im glad your noticing the difference in your face now , i am too my double chin is starting to go which for me is great evidence im going the right way. Good luck with your losses.

Me: I spent all day yesterday shopping for food and i had a really bad sore throat , well this morning i have woke up with a full cold , nose is blocked and cant breathe through it , cant stop sneezing which feels like my nose is gonna explode, and throats dry and sore and going croaky, so seems like ill be taking it easy this week , i think aerobics is out of the question cos i will get short of breath (asthmatic but it only affects me if i got a cold) where im bunged up so i think ill go get weighted and come home again :(

Good luck to you all this week and i hope you all have great losses.

Well done on the coat, Moo - I never find bargains like that!

Michele - woops! What happened when your son found out about the letter?

Helen - hope you enjoyed your lunch after your run.

I'm just back from the most amazing Farmers' Market. There were some girls there who had a stunning display of organic veg they'd completely grown themselves - really imaginative stuff like purple kale, lots of different kinds of tomatoes, fabulous lettuce and yummy kohlrabi - we bought LOADS (a good kick start to my new healthy living regime). We also bought a freezer full of organic / freerange meat straight from the individual growers (including our Christmas dinner) - they did a deal because we bought in bulk and so it worked out cheaper than buying the ordinary non-organic stuff from Sainsburys. I also went a bit mad and got some rather expensive pickles, chutneys and preserves - which I'm putting away for Christmas. Its not often that DH has a Sunday off so we're making the most of it - we're having an early dinner and then we're going to just veg out watching some of the second series of 24.

Did anyone else watch Robin Hood on BBC1 last night? I was a bit disappointed after all the hype about it.

Woo hoo, lovely lunch, and we walked there and back (about 3 miles in total), so added to my run I think lunch was well and truly deserved. I'm trying to help mum along at the moment, she quite likes walking and likes using her pedometer but has problems with her feet. For years I've been persuading her that her shoes aren't helping, I just about managed to get her into supportive sandals rather than flip flops, then yesterday in York I FINALLY managed to get her some proper walking trainers from the running shop (not that I was looking for an excuse to go in...) She's actually admitted that they're a lot better, so hopefully Amsterdam will be the first time I take her anywhere and she doesn't start complaining about blisters after about half a day. Now I just need to see whether she actually wears them in Spain...

Anyway, exercise for the day is well and truly done for the day, and I've got some red wine waiting to watch the rugby with.

Sarah - that farmer's market sounds fantastic, I'm hoping to get to one sometime soon (although not too soon as I seem to be really busy at the moment!)

:censored: I just put a huge amount of washing out to dry and its suddenly started tiddling down!

Never mind.... at least I had a lovely 3 hour walk in the dawn sunshine this morning.

Well, this is day one of my re-start and its going fine so far. I had porridge with cinnamon in it for brekkie BEFORE my walk - which meant I had far more energy and walked much further than I have been able to since, for some reason (probably to do with Body for Life) I started exercising before brekkie.

Yum - I'm eating my mid-morning fruit snack - I've got a small dish of frozen blueberries which I'm eating one at a time - they are like little blueberry icepoles - the only problem is my fingers and the keyboard have gone all purple. :) :)

I was reading the Sin and Slim diet website. www dot followed by slimandsin dot com There was a little article about it in a magazine and it basically sounds like a good idea. Has anyone else heard of this or tried it out? They've got some nice (and easy) recipes there.

Tapering question for Helen....

Should I? And how much? Or do I just lay off the running? (which is easy since I only run on Sundays anyway! ) I've been to the gym today, and planning to go Tues, Weds and Thurs just weight training, and I'm teaching tonight, then training Tues and possibly Thurs. It's this Thursday session I'm more worried about since it's 2 hours long and 3 days before the half. How much did you taper for your first half? I'm inclined to think that activities the day before will be more important to performance as I think there is enough time to recover from Thursday (especially if I take it easy). What do you think?

Sarah Ann
10-09-2006, 09:06 AM
I don't trust diets promoted by celebs they are normally (always) being paid. :p

Are you signing up to S&S Sarah?

Probably not although its not too bad a price compared to some. I was just hoping someone might have tried it and could let us know ;) what makes it different from the average low fat / low cal / low GI diet. Probably nothing because, TBH, after 31 years of yoyo dieting  I really do finally believe that there really is no magic lotion, potion or formula thats going to make me a size 10 any time soon without me half killing myself. :(

I thin S&S is just low fat / low cal - I read the sample plan (which is at the very bottom of the blurb on the Health or Fitness Professionals tab) - looks to me that the major difference is that they say that three days a week you have a fruit brekkie and three other days a week you eat a fruit lunch - which probably releases up the calories necessary for the chosen sin items. Its nice to be told that its not my fault that I'm fat, though!

Send round the doughnuts.

:D I just did the S&S questionnaire sin choice thingy (didn't pay at the end though) - it told me that I don't want to sin enough and kept trying to push me in to eating/drinking more 'sinful' stuff. My daily sins were fairly okay but apparently I don't sin enough on a weekly basis. Hmmmm!

Frus, I would definitely taper at least a bit, you want to make sure that you're full of energy on Sunday and not still recovering from a hard effort too close to the day. You should aim to be fresher than you usually are for Sunday runs, not just because you'll be running further than before (I assume you haven't done 13.1 before - I didn't before my first half) but because you'll also probably find yourself running a bit faster than normal on the day.

You need to look at intensity as much as quantity - marathon programmes often recommend a 2 mile jog the day before the race, but not a 2 mile flat out session. It's OK to keep active, but don't do any hard sessions too close to the day. You don't want to push yourself too hard, but you also want to do enough to keep yourself moving. I tend to do my running towards the beginning of the week and then wind down with lower intensity stuff like swimming towards the weekend, with a complete rest (other than sightseeing!) on Saturday.

I taper at least a bit for pretty much everything, but for the shorter races that really just means taking a couple of days off close to the day rather than a full on three week marathon taper.

What you do on Thursday really depends how tired it usually makes you. I'd be wary of doing weights AND kickboxing on Thursday, but you'll probably have enough time to recover from one or the other if you don't do anything much on Friday or Saturday. Maybe see if you can make Thursday a slightly less hard session than usual.

Weight training isn't such an issue, it's cardio you need to be more careful with, although I tend to avoid any weight training that will make my muscles hurt for too long afterwards. Not because it drains too much energy, just because I find it more painful to run if my muscles are still recovering. Maybe do something each day you have weights planned, but don't push it too much and save the really hard sessions for next week.

Eating is important too. You don't need to do anything too special food wise until Friday, and probably don't need any more calories, but try to get more of your calories from good carbs and protein and try to eat slightly less fat. (As an aside, when I say no more calories I mean no more than maintenance level, I wouldn't be trying to lose this week. I've only really done halves/marathons since I stopped losing weight properly, so for me it's not much of an increase. For someone eating at a calorie deficit level, maybe you would need more.) On Friday and Saturday, eating a bit more can be a good idea to make sure that your energy reserves are nicely topped up, but don't force yourself to eat too much as feeling bloated and carrying extra weight (particularly water!) won't help either.

To be honest, it depends what your aims and priorities are. You will run better if you taper, but you'll probably still be able to run adequately if you don't. You'll get round either way, but the fresher you are the more comfortable it is likely to be. If kickboxing is the priority and Amsterdam is just something you want to say you've done, no matter how slow then by all means do as much kickboxing as you want. If this is the priority for the week then maybe some other things have to give. Running is almost always my priority, so I taper, but I appreciate that might not be the same for everyone!

An essay on tapering, apologies to anyone not running a half this weekend!

Thanks that's great!

I think I might just do all stuff but at a lighter intensity. I am usually pretty well rested by Sunday and raring to go again, so as long as I get some decent carbs in this week (I bought cereal specially!!!) then I shall be ok I think!

I'm back from the 10K.....it was blazing hot. My pace was 2 seconds slower than last year. I wanted to beat last year but there were probably 2000 more people and I stopped at every water station.

It was hard...but now I'm happy I did it, I have my feet up on the coffee table and I'm completely lounging.

Welcome back Cat, we missed you :)

WEll done RedSOx on your run...all these runners out here on this forum, it's getting very racy around here :)

Sarah, glad you're back in the house, I thought of you on your scramble run walk climb the other day, we took the dogs on a trail near the house and although it wasn't like the moors, it was a nice walk with a bit of scrambling on my part, as Pen decided to run down the only bit of downslide, and I was attempting not to trip on roots of trees, and a magnificent view of the bay as we rounded a corner, someone even built a bench there, to sit and look, although we didn't....

Eating has been good today, loads of veg for me...no curves as it was a holiday, but I'll be there tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a lovely week.

Anyway, I got home and finished watching March of the Wengpins - bless! I think the extra documentary about them filming them was a lot better. I think they touched the actual film up, since some of the exact shots showed lots grubbier penguins than were in the actual film... :chin:

Sarah Ann - glad that you are back home.

Frus - congrats on the 10k and GL with the half this weekend.

Cat - well done on leaving an unhappy marriage, too many of us put up and shut up. Did he really run over your computer? What a twit.

redsoxgirl - congrats on your 10k too!

Veggie - I know who nancy sorrell is, isn't she now married to vic reeves? and here I was thinking he might have decent taste in women.

Slow week for me so far. I'm feeling very run down and exhausted so I'm taking the week off from the gym. I'm feeling a bit disappointed because I'll be missing two spinning classes which I really have started to enjoy. My body is telling me it needs a rest though and I don't want to push on through like I have before and make myself more sick. I went to bed at 8.00 am last night and slept for 9 hours and still feel tired :( . Don't like this feeling much. This week is TOM week though so I'm thinking that is not helping. I took a multi vit this morning for a vit c boost.

Hubbie is gone for the week again so I'm "on me tod". On the good news front, my size 14 work trousers passed the "time to get smaller pants" test this morning: I can pull them down over my hips and bum all the way to my ankles with them still buttoned and zipped up. So I'm off to the mall to try on some size 12's at lunchtime. I tried them last month and they were way too tight so I'm not expecting much tbh but the 14's are looking ridiculous. I look like a 32 year old woman trying to dress like MC Hammer ffs. This particular brand of trouser does run small though, cause I'm already in size 12 dress trousers that I bought from Dillards (M&S type store) last month.

I'm going to Barnes and Noble at lunch too to see if the latest OK and Hello mags are out, sorry but I can't help myself, although OK has been crap lately, all it's had in it is Kerry fkin Katona moaning on about how bad Brian treated her etc. etc. Reading trash mags always cheers me up.

Hello Cat, well done for leaving him!

I've had a productive day of Amsterdam shopping today, I've stocked up on Lucozade stuff so I don't need to rely on Gatorade (which I've never tried), and I bought a new t-shirt to run in (exactly the same as my favourite one, but with shorter sleeves as I won't be running at 6am and don't need the warmth).

I had chocolate this afternoon, but I'm unrepentant...

Lynne, if you need sleep then sleep! I have those days too.

10-11-2006, 03:50 AM
Ah Amsterdam shopping! I must get myself up to Sweatshop! I think it'll have to wait till Friday morning though!

So I need carbo gel type thingies and some new socks. I also want some new leggings, since the ones I ran in on Sunday are slightly baggy at the crotch :o and I don't want to wear pedal pushers. I think I can live with my many current T-shirts ;)

I'm feeling exhausted today  I have my diet coke here pepping me up. No gym for me at all today, early home and we may or may not have visitors  I don't really want visitors today, but what's a girl to do!? We don't even know if they're coming today or next Wednesday! If they don't come I'm going to snuggle under a blanket and watch Girlfight.

I had chocolate yesterday too! Maltesers, and then DF had bought white chocolate chip cookies - I had about a third of one, which is very restrained, especially since I'd been wanting to binge all day  It's one of the side-effects of having the parents stay the weekend. They lull me into a false sense of security and I eat a lot, then I find it hard to stop eating refined carbs. I'm feeling ok today though, no buffet lunches at work, no chocolate in my possession and it may or may not be pizza for dinner, but I might make myself something healthy with the "I'm carbo-loading for a half-marathon" excuse... :D

YP1
10-11-2006, 03:57 AM
I've run 1000 miles this year! (Well, I've not run them all, there have been walk breaks, but I've covered 1000 miles on my runs).

I think I'm having pizza for lunch tomorrow (client lunch) so I'll save my "carb loading" for then. I have fruit today, which is an improvement. With mum being here she does the shopping and while her efforts at main meals aren't too bad, she doesn't appreciate the number of snacks I need.

I tried out the new t-shirt this morning, so it's vaguely run in (4.5 miles) before Amsterdam. Not that I thought I'd have problems with it, but I just wanted to check. Actually, I'm taking loads of different options for things to wear once I see what the weather's like, but that's the favourite at the moment.

You lot! Whether you run in new t shirts, new/old trainers or flip flops - you still put me to shame!

Off to the parents this weekend. Maybe if it is nice Dad and I might go for a walk - but I bet it'll be miserable (the weather not the walk). Will have to tell them that the Boss objects to me taking the odd Friday off now (all of a sudden). Funny he does not object to the 'Golden Girl' of the Dept who is NEVER here. I think she has been in about 3 times this year. 'Working from home' - yeah right. That is why he annoyed me so much I ate chocolate yesterday. Funnily enough he used to have a weight problem - I should have force fed him the chocolate. Ha ha!

I think the weather's supposed to pick up at the weekend, at least down here. Amsterdam is forcast a sunny 19 degrees for Saturday!

Sarah Ann
10-11-2006, 05:29 AM
Morning, everyone!

Peacock - I agree - they put me to shame as well. :dizzy:

I've got fruit as well - I just had a fresh fig and a small bunch of grapes. I'm being so organised today - I've got a spinach salad with one of our huge tomatoes, some l/f fetta and some olives planned for lunch. More fruit for afternoon snack and then a fennel, sweet potato, mixed bean and red wine casserole with kale and crusty bread for dinner and a baked apple with l/f Greek Yoghurt for supper.

We popped in to Lidl yesterday - and they were selling a lot of their fruit & veg at 'half price'. We got three big fresh pineapples for 64p each and their figs were only 19p each - I love figs. We've even got a fig tree in the garden but, for some reason, the baby fruits just fall off the tree before they ripen.

I'm the lucky one! I've got a bunch of skimpily clad men here demolishing my bathroom. Not sure why they're all wearing shorts and tank tops (its not hot here) but I'm not complaining. :p I've been promised it'll all be fixed by the weekend but I can't see that happening somehow. The plumber has told me to arrange to have the replacement carpet he's paying for laid one day next week but I think I'll put it off until I know for sure that they've finished walking dust and grit through the house. At least they've finished fixing the kitchen ceiling so I'm not worried that part of the bathroom will end up in the kitchen any more.

DH cooked last night (he loves cooking) and - bless him - really tried hard with the calories! I told him that he could cook me a max of 600 low GI calories and he spent most of the afternoon with a calculator and a variety of recipe books trying to figure out how he can cook the curries he loves but keep in the calorie limit. (Now he knows how it feels!!!) We had a chicken tikka on lettuce & tomato salad starter, followed by three different veg curries (one spinach, one aubergine and one lentil) served with a small amount of brown basmati rice - he even managed to produce a grilled fruit salad with Greek yoghurt for pud - all in the required calories. I could easily get used to having someone cook for me every day. :D

Lovely walk this morning, even though it was drizzling - 2 and a half hours. Not doing the constant climbing and scrambling any more means that my hip isn't playing up quite so much, so I'm enjoying the walks a lot more and can put in more distance than I have been recently. Its also helping that its so much cooler because I hate wearing waterproofs when its warm.

DH has been trying to persuade me in to going back to the blummin dentist for the next phase in my torture - I keep putting it off but I suppose I'll have to go back soon. :(

WOW! I'm well impressed with your DH Sarah! The nearest mine gets is buying me stuff to make him a stir-fry with! Actually he did buy it with the intent of me eating it, but he bought tomatoes which I don't like, peppers which make me smell  and a courgette. :chin: At least he tried! Peppers make you SMELL????????????????? I've never heard of that before. Green ones make me burp but red, yellow and orange are okay and a lot easier to eat.

Sarah Ann

It depends on how you plan being weighed in the future. It will be interesting to find out the difference a day's food and drink makes, though.

If you're going to regularly go to the evening weigh in class you need to show the alteration in your diet diary for what it is - the change over from being weighed empty to being weighed full (so it doesn't look like you pigged out this week). But if you are just going to the class on a one-off basis then I'd stick with your normal weigh in.

Have a nice time! :)

Sarah Ann

Yes, I've tried the ready-prepared stir fry veggies (expensive!) but I still don't much like it - DH loves massive veggie stir fries with noodles so I do have to eat them occasionally but no matter what I put in they always seem to taste the same. If I'm cooking for me on my own (for lunch) and I want something hot I do occasionally stir fry broccoli with orange and black beans or mushrooms with garlic and butterbeans - so I can taste the individual flavours.

Well in that case I think that (if I were you) I'd weigh myself this morning so I could see if I've lost anything in direct comparison to last week.... then again this evening so you get a comparison when you go back to get weighed next week - but make a note against it in your diet diary so you can see what happened in a few weeks time. Theres nothing worse than being good for a week and not being able to see a loss in your diet diary. (JMHO)

Morning :).

I'm feeling a bit better today, certainly not as exhausted as I was Monday and yesterday. I could get used to this sleeping in until 6am stuff too . Oh well, it'll be back to normal next week so I better not get too used to it.

Sarah Ann sounds like your DH really tries. Mine used to pitch in and help with the cooking every now and again but he's seemingly forgotten about those days.

Frus and YP are you both excited? Silly question I bet you are. What's the shopping like in Amsterdam? Be careful about buying special brownies though ;).

The new season of Lost started over here last week so I'll be watching that tonight. I think Sawyer got cuter since the last season or maybe I'm just concentrating too hard on his dimples . No OK or Hello mags yesterday so I was deprived of my home grown trash, I did however manage to pick up a US Weekly (US trash mag) so will read that over dinner tonight.

Sorry Kylie - you and I must have posted about the same time! I hope everything gets sorted for you - breaking up is always miserable even if you now its the right thing to do. I can't imagine waiting for DH to be aggressive - it must be totally exhausting to be on edge the whole time. I hope you find somewhere a bit more permanent to live soon.

Lynne - hmmmm, not so sure that DH is pitching in to be helpful - I think is more like he REALLY loves cooking, shame he's not so keen on the clearing up afterwards. When DH was in his teens he wanted to be a chef but his dad thought it was a 'nancy' thing to do so he got pushed in to the career he's in now which he doesn't like very much. (Funny, really, cos MY Dad was a chef!)

Crikey, Treezuk, well done on that 5lbs! I wouldn't have thought that a change in weighing times would make any difference to your weight loss - it doesn't really matter what time of the day you weigh yourself so long as you are consistent - its just that you get to see what YOU weigh if you a nekkid after a visit to the loo in the morning rather than fully clothed with a day's food inside you in the evening.

Gotta go look for the new smilies... *2 minutes later* found 'em - nice ones! :book2:

Hello
I finally managed to finish my studies for this year yipppeeee! Did my exam yesterday, think it went ok-ish, but I wont get the results till december.

Also finally got that blasted Mirena coil removed, I am so glad to be rid of it, its been more problem than its worth, also I think its partly responsible for my weight gain - seems to be a very common thing with this. So hopefully my lard will come off quicker now :)

Michelle, all the best to your dad.

Treez, well done on the scales :carrot:

Teresa - Well done on that 5lbs! :carrot:

Kalijack - :crossed: for your exam results. I've only ever had a normal coil and it was pretty awful. It was after having it 'installed' that I seemed to start a whole series of problems in that region but I didn't put two and two together for a number of years, by that time it was too late.

Well.... I'm doing okay so far on my re-start. Three days with 2 to 3 hour walks and I've stuck to my planned meals and snacks. *All* I've got to do is carry on like this....! :dizzy: :dizzy: Tonight I'm making one of DH's favourites - we call it Mexican pie (I haven't got a clue what its really called). Its like a Mexican lasagne but with wholemeal tortillas instead of pasta and I'm making it with minced turkey instead of beef. I'm having loads of green salad with mine but I expect DH will have mounds of grated cheese and sour cream on his.

While I'm still feeling all enthusiastic I'm going to plan out my meals for next week and then do my Sainsbury-online order.

I've decided I'm going to be brave and get on the scales on Saturday morning (my normal weigh in day) to see what damage I did on holiday and while staying with MIL. :fr:

Talking about MIL, I must have worried her because she went and had a cholesterol test - just waiting for the results - but her doctor says he can tell by her eyes that there might be a problem - whatever that means! He also thinks she might have an OVER active thyroid which would account for why she keeps losing weight all the time.

Oh and WHY is it that the moment you make a cup of tea, the phone rings with THE MOST ANNOYING man you've ever spoken to, who takes about 5 hours to explain what he needs and ends every sentence with a ? So you constantly have to keep going, "Uh-huh"??????? GAH!

Yes, we get fed up of that sort of call at work, the "can I speak to the marketing man" or "can you put me through to the person who handles the billing" we usually just tell them we're a charity and they go away.

Sarah Ann

I just want to know how they have this psychic ability to phone just as I'm dishing up dinner or when DH and I are getting up close and personal!

We got most of the phone calls stopped by registering with the Telephone Preference Service (http://www.dma.org.uk/content/Prf-Introduction.asp) it takes about a month to kick in but the only marketing calls we get now are from outside of the UK. You can do it with junk mail as well using the same link and - to a lesser extent - with email.

Now I need to find out how to get religious weirdos or cold callers from knocking at the front door.

I'm on TPS, and only get the occasional religious nutter, so I'm not doing too bad.

I'm pretty much packed now, I've got to get to work a bit early tomorrow and work through lunch so I can get away in time for my flight, but then I'll be on my way

I had a client meeting/lunch in rugby today, but didn't eat too badly. I was impressed that instead of biscuits on the table in their meeting room they had a huge bowl of apples, I wish they did that where I work!

:running: Good luck to everyone running at the weekend! :running:

I thought I ought to stop being a wuss and stop being scared of the scales - so I weighed myself this morning - only a 3lb gain on my pre-holiday / pre-domestic crisis weight! Phew!!!! Nowhere near as bad as I thought. At least I'm back in my size 16 jeans again.
I'm off :swim: swimming today with a friend although I'm not looking forward to cycling there in this thick fog.

It was an interesting walk this morning - I couldn't see beyond 15 feet so I had to keep to one straight raised track which goes straight across the boggiest part of the Moor so I could find my way back (instead of doing a large circuit). At 1hr 15 mins I turned the dogs back to follow our footsteps home and George & Fred started rushing around very excited and when I looked at the floor I saw lots of deer hoof prints criss-crossing where we'd walked just minutes before. It looked like two or three had been quietly following us and had run off when we doubled back.

I missed all the excitement last Sunday (when we went to the farmers' market). I found out today that the Mountain Rescue people (with helicopter and dogs) had to come and search for the slightly daft woman who lives at the other end of my road. She let her little fat Jack Russell dog out in to her garden to 'do its business' at bedtime and the dog dug its way out of her garden and ran off on to the Moor. Like an idiot she followed it, got lost and spent the whole night on the Moor wandering around falling in bogs and pools - apprently she was in a right state when they found her. The silliest thing is that the blummin dog came back on his own and spent the entire night whining loudly in the garden - which was why her neighbours checked up on her then raised the alarm in the early hours of Sunday morning. I miss all the fun! ;)

That story made me laugh, poor little old lady.

My cell phone carrier called me the other day to "offer me better service". Basically they said we will give you fewer minutes for the same money but we will give you another phone to use. I am one person, I don't need another phone. She couldn't quite grasp that.

I politely asked the woman who spoke very little English, why that would be better for me. I was being nice and kind of playing around but she hung up on me, I swear they call me once a week.

Hello everyone

Good luck runners.

Sarah what a result that 3lbs will be off in no time. It could have been a whole lot worse.

I am feeling much better today my period arrived so automatically my urge to eat like there is no tomorrow just goes. I too had the courage to go on the scales this morning they said nine stone 11 pounds and a bit two pounds of that is probably me being swollen she says hoping!!

It is the most glorious day. I have a pile of stuff to do in the house but I shall leave it until just before hubby comes home and do the quick Friday tidy.
I intend laying on my sofa reading my magazine Closer which is full of rubbish but I wanted to read about Michelle McManus remember the Xfactor girl who has lost ten stone she says, but not before I have made a fried egg sarnie with the most wonderful granary loaf.

Have a lovely day everyone

I went swimming - wish I hadn't now - I feel all cold and shivery and can't warm up. I'd go to bed for a nap except the house is full of very noisy workmen - looks like the plumber has got some mates in to help out with the non-bathroom repairs. Somehow I still don't think its going to get done in the time limit he gave me. I'm a bit worried because I know he's got a big job to start on Monday. I think I'm going to be sharing the house with this lot all weekend.

I need a hug.
I have lost 49lb... I have received my 3 and a half stone sticker from Slimming World but I am still absolutely MASSIVE. :( You see others lose that much and you can see a huge difference.
I still get the "If I lose 3 and a half stone, i'd be dead" comment from people. :(
I asked a friend to get me a band tshirt from a concert she's going to tomorrow as I never had a chance to pick one up when I went to see the band recently. She said "shall I get you the biggest they have, oh I feel really bad saying that... or shall I get you a medium as an incentive for it to fit"?
I reminded her I had lost 49lb and dropped 3, going on 4 dress sizes. But I AM still absolutely massive. :( I am now in size 26 clothes but they're getting saggy, so I'd probably get into a 24 with a bit of a breath in job.
When will I start to actually properly show I have lost?

On Radio Devon recently some small minded b*tch phoned in saying in so many words, us fat people don't deserve to live... and we should be exterminated. Smiler53 wrote in and said how we have feelings etc, but the way the DJ read it out made me feel as if he agreed with the caller. I feeling right now as if I don't deserve to take up space. And I do take up a lot of space. :(

You can listen again on the BBC website. The caller is the last one on the Lunch Time phone in on the Radio Devon website, Tuesday... is mostly about us Fat people... the last caller on the show about 1:52 in is the one that upset myself and Smiler53. Her email is read out on Wednesday, about 46 minutes in.

EVIL EVIL people. :(

Morning, everyone.

I spent all last night going from hot to cold and then back again - it was 3am before I thought to take some paracetamol and by the time I woke up at 7 the cold had arrived in full force. Sadly I couldn't stay in bed and feel sorry for myself because the plumbers turned up at 7.30 - so I got up, ate my porridge and took the dogs for a walk which, along with a mega dose of Vit C, has really helped.

Homersmummy - WELL DONE on that 49lbs! You are doing REALLY well!!!! As for when the weight loss starts really making a difference in your appearance.... well, it all depends on how often people see you. DH doesn't really notice my weight loss unless its pointed out to him because he sees me every day but I tend to get 'OMG you've lost a lot of weight' type comments from people I haven't seen since I was a couple of dress sizes larger.

About that obnoxious radio programme - this world is full of all kinds of intollerant :censored: idiots who discriminate against anyone who is different from them - they usually pick on race, sexual orientation, colour or religion but this plank seems to have an irrational problem with people who weigh more than her. IMHO its people like her that have the problem. Don't take what she said personally - just think - you are doing something about your weight and, if you carry on putting in the hard work (as you have been) you WILL achieve your goal. She, on the other hand, is stuck with her unpleasant personality and will always have that bitterness in her soul.

I think I'd have emailed the BBC to register a complaint.

awwwwwwwwwwww HM..... your going great ..... 49lb!... its hard work.. not magic....

do you have some of your clothes your wore @ the start ? maybe put them on to see how far you have come.. not just what the scales say... only compare your self to what you were and not the so called twiglets who havent a clue what its like to only have one shop to find clothes.. and even at that you dont particulalry like but you HAVE to have them as they are the only ones that fit etc...

do u have some pics.. maybe compare them with now too... sometimes its easier to see a diffrence pic to pic... rather than pic to real life...

my shape has changed a bit recently.. & its only been a few pounds lots really... sometimes you are losing but its going from crazy places like your wrists n fingers lol... not helpful when u want smaller trousers haha..!
but it will go..... your doing great ..... dont ruin your hard work....

think of what you want to achieve when you have lost the weight.... able to shop anywhere, be healthier, fitter, feel better about yourself because of the previous.... or even simple smaller goals... like your in the next Xlb down, you can paint you toenails, ect ect!..

you know where we are.... (as the new corsa ad says) C'mon ... (u must see it lol)

that radio guy sound like a jerk... write ad complain if you think its therapeutic!!!.. even if u dont send it.....

HM I was the same when I lost 50 pounds in 2004. I was still the largest person at slimming world and at 16st 12 still felt huge. I wish I was that 'huge' now ;) :dizzy: I did have a passport pic I'd had done a few weeks before I started SW so I could see a difference in my face at least. Hey you! Where you been?

Thanks very much all. I know i've lost, because i've gone from a size 32 to 26, I can probably get in a 24 if I breathed in. I do get the 'Have you lost weight?' questions, but yeah I guess if people see me every day it will be hard to notice... but yes, I am still absolutely massive. :( People I told my starting weight to cannot believe how heavy I am still... neither can I if I'm honest. :( I still have about 8 or 9 stone to lose. (If possible)
I am definitely the biggest in my class by a long long way. I feel so self concious walking in there, I don't stay to class because I feel so out of place, even though we're all there to lose weight. People say i've done really well, but it's taken me 38 weeks to lose 3 and a half stone. That's not really that good, especially when I read how much others manage to lose in a year.
I keep looking in the full length mirror in the ladies at work, thinking so where has that weight gone from?

I was so tempted to complain, I know it's a have your say phone in program, but they were going too far and the DJ was in my opinion egging them on with his comments. It hurt me and Smiler53 and no doubt others too. They seem to think all of us large people choose to be this way.

Oh well, enough of my complaints. I'm just feeling extremely miserable at the moment! :sorry:

Homersmummy you are doing great. Please don't compare yourself to other people. Remember that if you are losing weight slowly it will stay off. I used to feel uncomfortable in certain classes at the gym because I felt out of place, but someone said to me once, nobody is really watching anybody else and I find that to be true. Now I'm one of the "regular" people and I really pay no attention to who is around me (unless they need help or something).

Anyway I know its easier said than done not to be discouraged but you really are doing well, and if you continue at this pace think of where you will be a year from now.

It has taken me (I'm not exaggerating at all) 1.5 years to lose 30 lbs. My friend and I started trying to lose at the same point and she has lost 60. She however is doing it in a very unhealthy way that I won't get into here, but just remember you are doing this for you.

Sorry if that sounded preachy and for rambling :)

Clareh

Homersmummy- that's a massive achievement and you should be really proud of yourself- that's 4 dress sizes down. I've lost 20lbs in a year and a bit so I'm in awe of you. You've got the commitment and willpower to change your lifestyle to lose this weight so if you carry on exactly as you are, in another 4 dress sizes you'll be in a 16/18.

There's a lot of ignorance in this world and the phone in seems to be just another example. I feel sorry for them to be that bitter about life.

HM - about long term weight loss - have you read Diet Girl's blog (http://www.dietgirl.org/dietgirl/index.html)? Its completely inspirational. She's an Aussie living in Scotland and its taken her nearly six years to go from her start weight of 25st 1lb down to 12st 11lbs - and she hasn't finished yet! Take a look at her archives from when she was starting out - she describes very well the highs and lows of long term weight loss and all the struggles in between but in a way which is so funny and readable.

Yayyyy me - I've managed to stay within my 1500 low GI calories even though I'm back on the really long, flat walks - I managed just over 10 miles this morning. I got buzzed by some idiots on microlights who I suppose wanted to look at the Moor from above and chase the deer. I suppose they thought they were being funny but it scared the wits out of the dogs who ran straight in to a bog and I got filthy getting Fred out because he panicked! We often get microlights going over the Moor but they don't usually come down so low. Idiots!

I made some very yummy iced yoghurt stuff yesterday - just mashed bananas, L/F Greek yoghurt, a little honey and cinnamon whizzed up together and frozen. I thought it sounded a bit strange but I had loads of very ripe bananas to use up and banana fritters or banana bread is a bit out of the question at the moment :( so I found this recipe - and it turned out to be totally delicious. :p

DG has faced the same challenges as HM and has suffered similar depression when nobody noticed even after she'd lost a shed load of weight but still carried on. It really helps to read about peoples' experiences especially if, like most of us, it hasn't been easy.

Talking about easy weight loss - does anyone else get annoyed with these magazine articles about dieters' stories - about the way they always seem to imply that losing weight is such a simple thing to do. You know the kind of thing (they run to a set pattern) .... a woman (its invariably a woman) had a Horrific Personal Experience which made her realise she was ruining her life by being overweight - so she 'just' used this or that diet and 'just' did loads of exercise or even 'just' took this type of pill or 'just' had that kind of weight reduction surgery - and look at her now, size 10 without a problem in the world!

It feels like the articles are trivialising what really are incredible achievements. I wish that for once they'd get real and talk about all the blummin hassle that goes along with it and the fact that losing weight doesn't solve all life's problems (and can actually create quite a few of its own!) It would also be nice if they were to have a few more articles about larger women who are happy with their bodies / lives / careers - the only one I can think of is Fern Brittain!

Sorry to rant... just got annoyed at an article I just read!

HM - about long term weight loss - have you read Diet Girl's blog (http://www.dietgirl.org/dietgirl/index.html)? I hadn't no, but thank you for the link. She looks absolutely amazing!:dizzy: I am going right back to January 01 and I'll read her blog, thank you. :)

I've been slacking of late gym wise. I couldn't go for 3 weeks because of other commitments, but these past 2 weeks i've put it off. I can't afford it at the moment but I can't be bothered to go if i'm totally honest. I'm doing well eating wise but exercise wise... I'm sure i'll get back into it again soon though.

I'm back! Frus and Kylie are still in Amsterdam living it up and eating fondue, but I had to fly back tonight to go to work tomorrow :(

We both finished the run in one piece before the sweeper bus came to get us and have shiny medals with a nice orange ribbon. Frus said she ran all the way, so a big well done!

Homersmummy - you're doing really well so don't let comments like that or still feeling big put you off. If you stick at it you'll get there, don't worry.

Anyway, I need to sleep now, so I'll leave the proper Amsterdam update until tomorrow, but I thought I'd better update you!

Wahoo YP, glad you're back safe and sound, we look forward to hearing from all runners, spectators and fondue-er's sometime soon :)

I've been shopping today, winter boot shopping, it's getting a bit nippy here now and Hannah needed some winter weather boots so I thought I'd buy myself some as well...got her a nice dressy pair for this kind of weather, flat scrunched up kind, she's got legs to kill for and they look lovely and she chose a great pair for snow and ice, all chunky and cool looking..I bought a nice pair of brown leather ankle boots, chunky heel...not too high and some new tennies for curves, loads of build up on the bottom as I'm having trouble with my heel...so we'll see how they work out tomorrow.

Eating has been good for me today, penance for breakfast yesterday....had a nice walk with hubs and dogs this morning although it was chilly, I think the warmer weather is all done here now.

Ok have a good week all, keep your chins up and smile at everyone.

Sarah, I agree with you on the magazine articles, no fat now thin woman ever says how they slipped, felt they weren't getting anywhere, or anything negative, makes me mad too, this isn't easy, we all slip, we all get disheartened and can be bl**dy hard at times. thanks goodness for places like this where you can get great support and a good moan session if need be :) Cheers UKFC :) x

I've created a monster. Not only did my mother spend the flight back from Amsterdam thinking of other places I could combine running and city breaks, she's just sent me this link.

Congrats to YP1, Frus and Kylie!

Sarah Ann - re the Amazing Diet articles - I also get mad at them. Plus also I think a lot of people lose the weight then put it on again because a lot of their problems are insude and they have to deal with that first.

I must admit years ago I went down to about 8 1/2 stone which should have been good for me at 5ft 4 ins. I did not feel any different and there was no red carpet treatment for me so I just thought "sod this" and carried on as before!!!

Homersmummy -You have done really well! If I lost 4 dress sizes I would be in absolute heaven!! It does not matter that you are the heaviest in the class - and do stay - even someone with a couple of stubborn pounds to lose would feel like poo - honestly! They are all there to lose weight.

I think when you go back to the gym you will feel better.

This film is worth taking a look at (http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com/home_films_evolution_v2.swf)- its only 30 seconds long - but it shows what they do to get models to look amazing for adverts, etc. I might as well give up now!! :)

Well done Helen and Jen - mmmmmmm fondue mmmmmmmmm!

Hi Chris  I envy you the cooler temperatures. Its still fairly mild here although they do forecast that it'll get colder soon. I'm quite looking forward to it - I'm still getting bitten by gnats when I'm walking on the Moor. The only thing I've found which helps is Vick Vapour Rub - but who wants to smell of Vick all the time?

I must get out and buy myself some boots - I have bought trainers off eBay but the only time I bought boots proved the point that there are some things its better to buy in a shop!

The bathroom is almost done - just the floor to re-lay and the plumber is paying to have that done by a proper flooring company this time. At least the shower works and we don't have to keep traipsing next door to use theirs!

Homersmummy - I've been slacking off the gym as well. I'd developed a very bad pain in my hip and lower back which seemed to be especially bad on the nights after I'd done aerobics or L/B weights - it was definitely the exercise causing it because it went away entirely when I went to stay with MIL - so I'm restricting exercise to my daily walks with the dogs plus swimming a couple of times each week.

Sarah Ann

Homersmummy - I just thought... perhaps you are the heaviest in the class now - but it might be that some of the other women started off heavier than you - its just that they're well on the way to getting to target. It could be that in a year's time you'll be sitting there all slim and sexy and a larger lady will walk in and feel the same as you do now.

What, Sarah Ann? You mean you do not spend 4 hours in make up and 'photoshop' yourself before you go out???!! You owe it to your public!!

Sarah Ann
10-16-2006, 05:47 AM
Ooohhhhhh I've got Photoshop - can you do that kind of thing with it???? All I use it for is cropping and re-sizing.

DH wants us to have some professional pictures taken in December (I am SO not happy about that idea AT ALL) but perhaps I could do them myself and use Photoshop on 'em so I end up looking like Angelina Jolie - despite the fact that I'm blonde with blue eyes and a small mouth. (Although there are some people who will dispute that last statement!).

Morning :).

Well done Amsterdam runners, pics please when possible! (if there are any)

I'm going through another "lack of motivation" episode. Slept in this morning and missed the gym and didn't really care. Bleah. Spinning tomorrow morning though so that should get me back into it.

I have been summoned to the Immigration Offices in Memphis, they have approved my permanent green card (the 10 year one) and I have to go for 1 more interview then it's all over. I will be a permanent resident and can keep on being one for 10 years, renewing said card, or apply for US citizenship after 3 years. We're going to try get to Memphis next week. I'm excited that it'll finally be bloody well over with. On another note, my UK passport runs out in June next year so I'm panicking already over getting that renewed.

I had a great time in Amsterdam, though due to my illness last month, couldn't run. I supported our resident athletes by eating and drinking alongside them!!! Mmmmmmm fondue!!!!

After my fortnight of drama it was great to have a girly weekend, and it felt very therapeutic. I didn't want to come home.

Now I am packing more stuff and dumping it at my friends place, wish me luck!

The really worrying thing is that having read a bit about it on the website I'm getting strangely tempted. Maybe not next October (I'd rather do a couple more marathons before stepping up to ultras), but possibly the year after. And the cut off is a generous looking 24 hours, unless the hills kill me before I get to that stage...

I'm feeling surprisingly rubbish today, I think I'll have an early night and try to run 2 miles in the morning before making a decision about whether I'm up to going to a running club I'm thinking of joining on Wednesday. I really want to go now, but would rather go once I'm able to move my legs properly...

Kylie, hope the moving is going OK!

Helen and other runners .... Congratulations on your marathon, really is excellent and I'm glad you all had a good time.

I've sent off my form today for the Playtex Moonwalk - I start my training tomorrow with a 1 mile walk. Just wondering if you think it's possible to train for the 26.2 miles in 7 months if you are very overweight as I am - my sister is doing it with me but she is only a stone or so overweight. Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

Ouch, my legs. I think they suffered more than normal because they were still recovering from Berlin. I've taken another day off running today in the hope it will make them a bit fresher for running club tomorrow.

Mum's gone back to Spain now, so tonight I'm going to go to the supermarket and stock up on all sorts of fruit and veg for the rest of the week. I want to have a really good 2 weeks of eating now I've got my races out of the way.

I'm BAAAACK! I'm well up for the moonwalk if you girlies are doing it too!?

I bought lots of lovely clothes in Utrecht, even though I was shuffling round like an old woman! My legs don't feel too bad today, I'm even going kickboxing tonight! I don't know about the gym though, I'll see. I might do some "active recovery!"

I will post some piccies later on. I got Kylie to take one of me in my shirt and medal before I hit the shower! Unfortunately I didn't take the camera to the stadium, but I think I got snapped crossing the finish line by an official photographer, so that should be a good one!

Well apart from the Half Marathon, I've got nothing to report :D I have less than three weeks till the wedding, so I'm eating nothing! ;)

Right, I am off to check out the Moonwalk site and register :D

Jen, well done on your run! Looking forward to the piccies. :)

Helen, fingers crossed your legs recover in time for the running club.

Lou, ouch about your neck, poor you!

Katie, yes, you should be able to do it in 7 months. Just make sure you've got a good bra, good shoes and some good music to listen to. A pedometer is useful but not essential. Start off easy and increase your pace / distance slowly - perhaps make a chart to follow - and try to train on a regular basis. Good luck!!!

I can't believe how much hungrier I am on 1500 calories than I ever was on 1800 to 2000 - I hope I get used to it soon! I think I'm going to have to go to the doctor about my hip problem.

My time was 2:00:29. I'm disappointed with those 29 seconds - I thought it would be around 2 hours, but I'd rather have been under than over!

The orange and yellow combo looks great by the way, better than my orange medal and maroon t-shirt on the way home...

And even better, Up and Running are giving a 10% discount to members of my gym. (I just wish I'd known that before I bought my last pile of stuff from there the other week...)

My weight is up a bit (I thought it was) so I'm trying to have a good 2 weeks to get it back down to 11 stone before the end of the month.

Yay for happy legs!

My legs are happy, I took them kickboxing last night, but the rest of me is SO TIRED :tired: I haven't felt like this in a long time, but I used to feel this tired all the time, so at least I'm sure it will go away! I want an early night tonight but we are entertaining  I need to tidy up when I get home  It looks like a bomb went off in my Amsterdam bag!

I got a stupid e-mail yesterday which has upset me a bit. A friend of mine, who I've known since I was 9, was invited to the wedding, I gave him 8 months notice of the date. He told me he was working on that day. :dz: Well the invites went out about 6 weeks ago, and he didn't reply, then I got an e-mail from him yesterday that says he is working in Liverpool, but will finish at 3.30 and drive down to London to come and "dance till dawn". There's so many things wrong with this!!!! First of all, he'll not only miss the ceremony, but the dinner as well, then there's the whole thing about him probably arriving in the middle of dinner, in the middle of the speeches or some other stupid time. DF is worried he'll come in and start being loud and making a fuss (I'm not so sure that he will). THEN he wants to "dance till dawn" somewhere AFTER the party..... ****-o, if you can't get down here for the WHOLE THING I'm not extending it just for YOU! IT'S MY WEDDING NIGHT, THE ONLY DANCING TILL DAWN I'LL BE DOING WILL BE HORIZONTAL! ;)

It's just the last straw in a long line of stuff, like "Oh I haven't seen you in ages, let's meet up." Then I suggest a date and he can't do it, but he never re-arranges. Or expects me to drop everything because he's "In town". And when I'm in his town he's "ill" or something. I think I only overlooked his stupid flakey-ness for so long because he's got a really whacky personality, he's really arty and fun, but now I just don't care for his pathetic little, "Oh all your work projects are like short stories, are you keeping a diary..." NO I'm not writing about my work in stupid little books just because you think I should. Although I am going to start a scrap-book with my races in.
