Speaking of which - anyones butt in need of some kicking?

Sunday - 45 min on elliptical DESPITE being on a mini-vacation and in a hotel. That hotel had a GYM, and I was THERE. Go me.

Yesterday I ran 2.5 miles/walked .5 miles.

Today I walked 3.2 miles.

10-03-2006, 12:48 AM
Hi everyone! My first time posting in one of these.

Today I rode my bike outside for about 8 miles. I usually ride to a place that's 3.5 miles from where I start then turn around, but today I felt like going a little further and up a huge hill. I figure I went about half a mile further, so 8 miles in total. Then I did a 30 minute upper body strength session in Yourself!Fitness, a video game for the XBox and PS2. Pretty much just like a work-out video, but it changes the exercises every time you start a new session.

Tomorrow, I wanna walk on my treadmill for an hour at 2.5mph, maybe 3. I spent money on the thing like in January and I've used it maybe.. 20 - 30 times. I vow to start using it this month. And probably a 15 - 30 minute session in Y!F after that.

10-03-2006, 01:02 PM
Welcome Rockergirl and Diem.

Got in another w/t routine last night - on my fourth consecutive week! I'm actually beginning to enjoy it, and the results. By next week I'll be able to add another set.

10-03-2006, 01:26 PM
:wel3fc: Diem

Today I did 40 mins shoulder workout
Later 5k run

10-03-2006, 03:26 PM
Thanks everyone for welcoming me!

40 minutes strength training over my lunch hour.
This workout included lunges and mountain climbers. I can honestly say I don't know which of these 2 exercise I hate the most! It wouldn't surprise me if the  was some how involved in their creation.

If my legs hold out I will do an hour of cardio after work ;)

edited to say my legs didn't hold out and I skipped this evenings cardio :(

10-03-2006, 08:16 PM
I hopped on my stationary bike last night and biked 2.6 miles, so over 10 miles cycled yesterday.

I've only walked on my treadmill for about 17 - 20 minutes, but I was going 3.5 - 3.8mph, kept changing. I've walked over a mile, maybe a mile and a half. Then I went to Wal-Mart and walked ton, so I may or may not get back onto the treadmill later.

15 minute core body strength session in Yourself!Fitness a bit earlier, feeling good.

10-03-2006, 08:32 PM
Welcome RockerGirl and Diem

Cardio, walked 1.5 miles, weights for arms and legs.

10-04-2006, 07:37 AM
Hi all! Did I hear someone offering butt kicking?? My butt is definitely in need of some serious kicking!! I haven't done ANYTHING in over 2 months! :yikes: I started "fresh" this week. So far I had two days of healthy eating and I am getting my water in. Today is the day I start to get active. I am getting a group together - a bunch of us will start walking at lunch. :running: I have Curves membership, so I will start going there again. I am determined to get back on track! And, by golly, I will get there!!!

10-04-2006, 09:29 AM
Ran 2.5miles and then tanked. Must not eat salads for lunch on run days! - Need my carbs.

10-04-2006, 09:42 AM

10-04-2006, 05:58 PM
7 miles on my bike outdoors. I'm going to do 3 more miles on my stationary later tonight. I want to do a 30 minute work-out with Yourself!Fitness in an hour or so. I love that game, it's so perfect.

10-04-2006, 06:56 PM
:wel3fc: Anais  Good for you for starting to exercise...

This morning 45 mins dreadmill :tread:, did HIIT and hills, I don't know why but it was tough, I felt almost sick after the workout, barely had energy do do a back workout. I usually always do weights first then cardio, but I knew I would skip cardio, my least favourite, if I didn't do it first...

10-04-2006, 07:23 PM
Ilene - today was hard for me too. I think its the first rain and the weather changing...your body needs some time to make the transition.

I -always- do my cardio first when I am feeling sluggish. Yes, its better to lift first, but i'll skip it much more easily than I'll skip my WT.

55 min elliptical, high intensity,

10-04-2006, 08:27 PM
Ilene - today was hard for me too. I think its the first rain and the weather changing...your body needs some time to make the transition.
The weather changing must be the problem because a few other gals in the change room were feeling sluggish today to... Hopefully tomorrow will be better...

10-04-2006, 08:33 PM
I did a 30 minute lower body strength workout just now and my goodness, I feel horrible too. My legs're killing me and I was sweating a storm during the workout and I still am now. I don't want to think about doing another squat or lunge with my weights ever again or I think I'll scream.

But come next Wednesday, when I do another LBS workout, I'll love them again.

10-05-2006, 12:56 AM
Wow...you guys are really hard-core! I'm in awe. I bow down before the goddesses of exercise!

10-05-2006, 07:21 AM
Morning all! Well, things are looking up! We walked for about 30 minutes yesterday at lunch - and it was GREAT! We are going today too. It's a bit warmer than I would like for it to be, but I'll manage :) Thanks for the support and for the butt kicking! :running:

10-05-2006, 09:48 AM
I can't post from home anymore for some reason (it won't let me log in), so I'm always a day late with this...

Yesterday: 40 min treadmill walk

10-05-2006, 10:58 AM
yay anais for getting that walk in!

:carrot: :balloons: :carrot:

10-05-2006, 12:58 PM
I let dd schedule last night knock my own schedule out of whack. I guess there will be days like that, so I enjoyed reading BfL by Pamela while I waited for her. Tonight will be a run, and we'll be back on track!

10-05-2006, 01:35 PM
I did indeed hop on my stationary bike last night and biked another 3 miles, taking my total to 10.

So far today I've walked 1.5 miles on my treadmill, going 4.4mph, and running for a few minutes at 5.5mph. I finished my 1.5 miles in just under 20 minutes. A 15 minute Yourself!Fitness session is on order today, and I plan on walking another half mile on the treadmill this evening.

10-05-2006, 03:47 PM

Another 30 minutes walk is in! I have no idea about the "mileage", but we will try and figure it out sometime next week. Our lunch-walking group is getting bigger - good deal.
Happy Friday all!!! :balloons:

10-06-2006, 09:40 AM
I had an interesting run last night. My dh went with me and when I had got around 2 laps on the track, he told me he was going home and would be right back. Well, I decided to follow him back home which is 3miles away. My plan was to do 3miles anyway, right? So I took off on a hilly 3mile course, and did it with a good time also! He did catch me about half way and turned around, waiting for me at the start of the neighborhood. It made my run very interesting and enjoyable. I think I may try that again one day soon.

Tonight is w/t. I missed Wednes due to dd's b'ball tryouts, so I'm actually looking forward to it tonight. Go me :carrot:

10-06-2006, 07:59 PM
30 min elliptical; 20 min treadmill

10-06-2006, 08:02 PM
I walked an additional 0.6 miles last night, outside. So far today I've just done a 15 minute core body strength workout and rode my bike outside for 6.6 miles. My legs were hurting pretty badly before I began and I decided to call it quits.

10-07-2006, 11:08 AM
Two seperate body strength workouts, core and upper. 15 minutes on each.

Don't sore musles swell and cause you to weigh more on the scale? Because, after this week of exercise and wonderful eating, I have gained three pounds. I'm kind of disappointed, but I have read before that sore muscles make you weigh more and my leg muscles are hurting.

10-07-2006, 01:12 PM
Didn't work out yesterday morning as I'd planned, but instead I finally kicked myself into gear in the evening and worked out! Yay! 2-mile WATP w/weights. :)

10-07-2006, 02:54 PM
I'm not sure about the sore muscle thing, diem -- I've heard something like that before too. But I just have to say: WOW! You've lost 140 pounds! That's AMAZING! :cp: VERY inspiring!

Today I did an old video I used to use in college -- The Firm total body workout with weights. It's the one with Janet Jones in a white leotard. It's so cheesy but it kicked my butt. It has some outdated moves and they kind of throw weights around a bit too fast, but I modified some stuff and I had sweat dripping off my face by the middle of it. Whew!

10-07-2006, 03:55 PM
Today I did Turbo Jam 20 minute workout. I didn't have time for Turbo Sculpt today :(

10-07-2006, 05:08 PM
Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and I wanna join in on the wonderful support system you have.

I recieved my Turbo Jam workouts yesterday and am starting today. I'm gonna follow the 4-5x a week workout plan suggested by the program.
I wanna lose 8-10lbs a month.
I need to focus from now til mid-Jan because I'm going on a fabulous trip to Hawaii and I AM GOING TO WEAR A BATHING SUIT!!!

Good Luck to all of you :D

10-07-2006, 05:29 PM
45 min elliptical, 45 min UB weight training.

Off now to unknown birthday festivities. Will not return with any additional exercise until the birthday is over (I asked if a slot had been planned in my day by the people planning the birthday for me to work out - I was told that no, definitely there was no time, so there you have it).

10-08-2006, 10:47 AM
Don't sore musles swell and cause you to weigh more on the scale?Yes, I find that when I weigh myself the day after a heavy leg workout I weigh more...but don't let the gain deter you from doing weights, weight training benefits far outweigh that 3# weight gain... Anyways, the weight gain won't continually go up, just keep doing what you are doing if the scale stays the same, use the pant-o-meter to measure progress...

Yesterday: 1 hour chest workout
Today: 6k jog, 46 minutes...

10-08-2006, 11:01 AM
Combination walk/jog 35 minutes because I was walking and met my husband on his way to a pre-church meeting without his glasses :)

edited to add: took another 55 min walk with the husband

10-09-2006, 12:12 AM

Is it normal to still be up a few days later? I haven't done anything all weekend and my legs no longer feel sore, but I'm still up.

10-09-2006, 01:26 AM
The day before I weigh in I usually take my off day from exercising.

Today I did Cardio Party for 45 minutes!

10-09-2006, 10:22 AM
Since adding w/t to my weekly exercise, I found that my weight fluctuates 2-4 pounds. I'm still very slowly taking pounds off in very small increments over several weeks timeframe, but whether it be the w/t addition or bc I'm so close to goal, I'm just using this period as a maintenance course. Ilene is correct that the w/t far exceeds the benefits of just losing for the sake of reaching a goal. It has taken me awhile to get this in perspective.

Ran over 5miles Saturday.

10-09-2006, 06:48 PM
Is it normal to still be up a few days later? I haven't done anything all weekend and my legs no longer feel sore, but I'm still up.Do you journal your food intake? Make sure your food is super clean, and if it is, my thought is that suddenly you will drop 3 or more pounds. Make sure you drink all your water too...

I haven't exercised since Friday, October 6th... :(

BUT! Today I went to the mall and wore my pedometer. Logged a bit over 6,900 steps. Says I've walked 2.696 miles, but I'm going to count it as 2.3 miles since pedometers are a bit off, especially this one I bet since I bought it at Wal-Mart for $3.96. May not have been a lot of exercise but it's better than nothing, and I had fun. I don't feel like I exercised at all.

I'm going to return to my 5-times weekly schedule this week.

10-16-2006, 11:00 PM
30 min elliptical; 10 min treadmill walk (ran out of time!)

55 min elliptical.

10-18-2006, 10:16 AM
I'm new and would love to be accountable! :)

A question though...for something to qualify as high intensity, what does your h/r need to be at?

Yesterday - 50 minutes hill interval treadmill (hr 145-155), 45 minutes strength training (UB)

10-18-2006, 10:46 AM
Hi. I just started exercising two days ago so my minutes are low.

treadmill: 1 mile (17 or 18 minutes)
bike: 10 minutes
elliptical: 10 minutes

I also have a couple of questions.

I find it real hard to do the elliptical and have only gone 10 minutes the last two nights. Also I was only going about 3.5 mph. Is this unusually slow for a beginner? It kept saying to warm up at that rate. Also, my heart rate was getting up to 161. What is an unsafe number? The machine showed 141 for a recommended high impact heart rate. I'm 39 and weigh 205.

10-18-2006, 10:51 AM
40 min weight lifting - Triceps, Chest, Shoulder, Abs
15 min stepper
20 min treadclimber
10 min sauna :) (this is my favorite part of the new gym)

10-18-2006, 05:01 PM
Walked 1.5 miles, weights for arms, pilates, and abs workout.

10-18-2006, 08:17 PM
Walked 2 miles out doors. Might use my Gazelle later.

10-18-2006, 09:27 PM
:wel3fc: Maureen.... What ever speed is good for you as a beginner is the speed for you, only YOU can tell... If your heart rate was at 161 and your were feeling ok, not completely breathless, nauseus or dizzy and could still keep up a decent conversation, I think you were ok... The monitors on the machines are inaccurate, I wouldn't rely on them all that much...

Today I did some HIIT on the :tread: and a very quick chest workout...

10-18-2006, 09:33 PM

40 min Treadmill - Lunch Hour
20 min Treadclimber - After work
10 Stairmaster

10-19-2006, 01:54 AM
50 min elliptical (stepped my resistance up today...yay! It didn't kill me!)
40 min UB strength training, plus my ab exercises.

Now lets just hope that I continue my mindset of "ab exercises after strength training are not optional"...I have been skipping them lately. Bad Amanda. But I DID do them today (all of them, even the awful trainer-prescribed bicycle crunches), so...Baby Steps!

10-19-2006, 09:24 AM
I did 45 minutes on the treadmill last night

10-19-2006, 10:21 AM
Elliptical: 13 minutes
Bike: 10 minutes
Treadmill: 18 minutes (just 1 mile)

I was determined to increase from my 10 minutes on elliptical. However, I couldn't do it all at once. Before I left the gym, I got on for the last 3 minutes :o

10-19-2006, 01:31 PM
10 miles cycled on the stationary bike, it's raining out. Finished in 32:30 minutes, usually takes me that long to go 7 when biking outside.

10-19-2006, 04:59 PM

10-19-2006, 07:45 PM

10-20-2006, 04:57 AM
WTG everyone!!

Last night was my first time at the gym, and needless to say - I LOVED IT!!

I spent like 30 mins doing cardio. I included treadmill and bicycle type thing. I was tooooo short for the ellipticle!!

But then we spent the next 45 mins - 1 hour using all different kinds of machines. I ended up doing a full body work out. Then I ended it again with another 15 mins on the treadmill!

I felt great! About to leave work ( at 3 am!! ) and head back to the gym!!

Thanks for reading girls!!

Erika Leigh

10-20-2006, 09:34 AM

10/19 - 40 min treadmill, 45 min strength training (mostly shoulders and arms, some abs)

10-20-2006, 01:13 PM
30min Gazelle. That can be considered like elliptical work, can't it?

I plan to start 3x a week strength training next week, and I will stick to it.

10-20-2006, 04:30 PM
Treadmill: 22 minutes

Hi, newbie to this area of the forum, but I wanted to jump in here! I was exercising 5 to 6 days a week up until a month ago when I hurt my knee during a FIRM DVD and then a family situation stressed me out and sent me into a deep depression. I am crawling my way out of my hole now and slowly geting back into this. Today was day 1! WoooHooooo! Anyways, starting off with the WATP 2 miles and some crunches and when that get's easier I'll bump it up to 3 and then back to some FIRM, Kathy Smith and TBL Work-out. :D

10-26-2006, 10:32 AM
Got to the gym very late last night....
28 minutes treadmill
15 minutes arctrainer
about 20 crunches on the ab roller thing.

Question: there's an ab machine at the gym, how many should I do to start out with. I never used it before and did only about 20 last night. I felt like I could have done a lot more but wasn't sure if I'd end up with stomach pains today but I feel fine. Are you supposed to do like tons of them? Also, should my head remain flat on the padding while I roll up? I just joined a gym for the first time 10 days ago and haven't had time to go to an orientation class yet.

only 45 min elliptical - my body appears to be having one of those "I'm going to fall apart all at once" weeks - so far my left knee has been hurting (think its just the weather changing thats making it hurt) and my ear has gotten really painful (the eustachian tube is closed, meaning that I have that feeling like you get on an airplane where you REALLY need to pop your ears because they hurt, except I have it continuously and there is no way to get my ears to pop...). For the ear, they put me on Sudafed...not exactly "get up and go" kind of medicine.

So I'm ok with the 45 min, even though i would have preferred it be more. Tomorrow is engagement pics, so I'll be making up for it on Sunday with cardio and UB strength.

10-28-2006, 06:27 PM

20 min of taebo and a 5 min walk to the apt complex gym (before taebo) where we discovered that 1pm on a sun is prime gym time. Therefore, we turned around and I conned my roomie into doing taebo.

Oh. My. Word.

Trainer last night. He upped my arm routine. And by "upped" I mean literally worked my arms so hard that I fell ON MY FACE on the BOSU trying to get out just one...more....rep. Flat on my face. And you know? I didn't even try to stop myself. That is apparently what they mean by failure :0) And afterward he STILL had me do 2 more ab exercises.

Then I got onto the elliptical for 50 min.

11-01-2006, 07:34 PM
:woohoo: way to go Mandallin...

Today I did 30 mins shoulders and 3o mins cardio... That's all I had time to do...

Hey let's close this October thread and open the November one ... see you there
