Default Does this sound right to you???

Good afternoon everyone! I was reading an article on the Prevention website regarding weight loss tips from people who have been on the TV show The Biggest Loser. It stated the way to calculate you daily caloric intake is your weight X 7. For me it would be 140(lbs) X 7= 980 calories for the day. Does this sound right to you all? It seems quite low. I try to stay between 1100-1200 on days that I don't workout, and 1300-1500 on the days that I do go to the gym. Thoughts???

Hi,

Something similar was asked at the chatter forum. A general rule is that the minimum calorie intake for a woman is 1200 calories. Is not healthy eat less because your body can enter in "starvation mode". I think your calories are right now ( I'm also at the 1300-1500 calorie range). Hope it helps, anyway I'm sure other people are going to explain it better than I.

I know that when you are on The Biggest Loser what you eat is given to you. They may have very low calories but because of the selection, it may be right. Personally, I feel that anyone who eats below 1200 calories per day is asking for a body shut down. That is just too much stress on your organs! Plus, I read that you need 950 calories a day just to run your vital organs!

Def does not sound right! Hopefully someone else that has seen the show knows more about what exactly they were talking about...........but really sounds OFF

hmmm well the last couple days I have have below 1200, but I only plan on doing that this week because I ate at least 6000 calories this weekend. I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as u dont do it very long and not very often. (my average calories is at 1700 right now... nothing wrong with that) Saturday I plan to up back up to 1300-1600. I worry more about my average then my daily intake. As long as my average is above 1300 and below 1700 I am happy.

I also don't see how this could be right. My calories per day would only be 980too and I would feel starved. I get 1400-1500 a day (when I check mine) and this seems like a decent amt. to me.

Holy crow I would starve to death!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe it is for really obese.only way it makes sense to me.

It might just be an estimate of BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) -- what your body needs just to stay alive. It's much too low to be for caloric intake

No matter what it is, it;s at best an estimate of something and may not be accurate for any particular person.

dude, mine would be around 770 calories. That's way less than HALF of what i eat!! At that rate, I'd probably die.
