GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM, actually, I'm posting three of them today:

http://members.aol.com/debelli/monday_morning_thought.jpg

RISE ABOVE IT

When some particular difficulty has you feeling like you're surrounded, which way do you go? The best way to go is up. A powerful strategy for overcoming the challenges is to get yourself on top of them rather than in the midst of them.

So how do you do that? You have a powerful tool available to you. It's something you use all the time without even realizing it, something you've been using since you are a child. It's known as visualization. It can positively and definitively change your mind, your attitude, and your energy level. And by so doing it can change the reality of your life.

When you're deep within a difficult challenge, visualize yourself rising above it. Close your eyes, and see the challenge surrounding you. Imagine that it has color and texture. In your mind, give it a size and shape. Then, using the same power of imagination, see yourself rising above it, like a hot air balloon lifting off the ground and into the air.

Get high enough above it and you'll see a way out. Get high enough above it and you'll see what's beyond it. Imagine yourself high enough above that challenge and you'll know, with absolute certainty, that you have what it takes to emerge victorious.

Whatever challenge confronts you, give yourself some valuable perspective. In your mind, rise above it. And in your actions you'll find a way to make it through.

-- Ralph Marston

***************

IN FOCUS

It seems obvious and yet it's a powerful truth that's all too often overlooked. To stay focused you need something on which to focus -- something specific, something clear and well defined.

Are you having trouble staying focused? Then perhaps you need to more clearly define the object of your focus. As an example, let's say you're attempting to focus on making more money. The vague goal of "making more money" is not clear enough nor definitive enough. Exactly how much more money do you intend to earn? Precisely how do you intend to earn it? What will you do with it when you get it, and why is that important to you? Questions such as these will provide you with a clear and specific object on which to focus.

Focus is impossible without a focal point. Just the act itself of clearly and specifically defining that focal point will serve to lock your mind and your energy into focus. And when the object of your focus is well defined, you can quickly get back on track if your focus should happen to stray.

Know, understand, and appreciate precisely where you desire to be focused. The more clearly you can define the object of your focus, the more intently and effectively you can focus upon it. Decide exactly what you intend to do, and almost as if by magic you'll find yourself actually getting it done.

-- Ralph Marston

***************

WHAT MATTERS

It doesn't matter how many opportunities come your way. What matters is the way in which you respond to them. It doesn't matter how many obstacles block your path. What matters is the way you decide to face those challenges and get through them.

It doesn't matter how much money you have or what kind of resources are available to you. What matters is how you make use of them. It doesn't matter what has happened in your past. What matters is what you do with right now.

It doesn't matter what others think of you. What matters is what you truly expect of yourself. It doesn't matter what circumstances you may find yourself in. What matters is how you respond to those circumstances and make the most of them.

What life hands you is not nearly so important as what you do with it. The details of your life are not nearly so important as life itself, and the precious, irreplaceable opportunity to live it.

Master those details, but don't get caught up in them or held back by them. What matters is the life you decide to live.

-- Ralph Marston

Good Monday Morning

Gatorgal
I have used SF Jello and you can't even tell the difference! BOB posted a Triple Layer SF Jello Recipe I think arounf April/May and it was real yummy. Idblond told me that Cool Whip is legal with the sugar grams, so you could really knock yourself out!

THUNDER
If I didn't say it before.....WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!!! Do you get your name from all the rain you get in your neck of the woods???

Debbie
Glad you had a nice day with Eli. Have you been having gobs of rain too? Any word from BOB yet? Hope her and Skeeter aren't floating downstream in a canoe!

Sparkle
Glad to see you post...let me know how that class goes! Sounds like fun. How many pounds until goal?

Fly
Miss you!!! Are those kids wearing you out at school or what? Long time no post!!!!

Frog
Thanks for the special note :)....Dan the Man went to a meeting on Saturday and doesn't sound like there will be any immediate action, and if so, it would ben here in the USA, which is a relief.
What about your DH?

Yikes!!!! Time to get to work! Sorry I didn't touchbase will all of you, I think of everyone, and hope everyone is doing well! Have a great day! Hugs, Nancy:wave:

Hello!

First--good news! I heard from Narda this morning (Big Orange Babe). She and Skeeter are fine--just displaced. There is no electricity at their house, powerlines are down all around, so they have evacuated to a motel until the power is back on. She sends her love and says she'll be back on the board as soon as she can!

Narda--out thoughts and prayers are with you!

I've been so dadgum good and the scale is so dadgum stuck! On the other hand--my tape measure has gone down another 1/2 inch around the hips. So there is progress, but the weight has got to move sometime. The only thing I can think of is that I've been working out and for the moment the lean muscle mass added may be cancelling out the fat lost--but its gotta move sometime!

Motivational Monday--I like Deb's article on focus. I'm bad about losing focus! Of course the hard part is to identify the actual goal. I know I'm guilty of the vague goal. I've got a weight loss goal, but everything elese surrounding it is sort of vague. I'm going to work on becoming more focuses--that is if I don't get distracted by something...

I hope everyone has a good day--it is important that we try to recover something of normal life--even amid all the uncertainty!

Love you all,
Susan

Good Monday Morning!

I don't have anything motivational to post, but will see what I can do for later today.

We went to a wedding on Saturday for one of Vince's co-workers. It was beautifully personal and the minister spent a few minutes discussing the strengths that each one of them brings to the marriage. The mother and father of the bride thanked everyone for coming and that they hoped it would be a pleasant diversion from the horrible tragedy that we're all in the midst of. It was really very sweet and everyone did seem glad to have an opportunity to rejoice and have a good time. We got to meet a friend of the groom's who was a body guard for the prince of Saudi Arabia for about 2 years a year ago. He was VERY interesting to talk with. His wife was glad we met him because she hadn't been ready to leave the reception when he was (then he and Vince talked for another hour or so.)

FROG and NANCEMEISTER - I will be praying for you and your men. Vince would become a mercenary (sp?), hit man, assassin or whatever tomorrow if he could. He tried several times to get into the armed forces....his mind was firmly set on being a pilot and it didn't work out. He'd be glad to go tomorrow if they called. We all want to do whatever we can.

DEBBIE - We went to The Clay Oven, an Indian restaurant here, for our anniversary. They use basmati rice, right? It was SOOOOOOOOOO good!! I wish I had a grip on the glycemic index. I have a copy of one, but there are so many foods NOT listed on it and the g.i. changes based on what you put with the individual food and it just gets to be a hassle sometimes. I look first at the sugar grams, then the ingredients for any illegal ones that wouldn't register on the sugar line, then the fat grams and then the calories when looking at foods. I hate to say that since starting SB and trying to figure life out I have tended to stay with the few things I KNOW without a doubt are legal and haven't ventured too far from that.

Not many jobs in the paper from yesterday. I'm hoping to hear from my one real good job lead. I hope they are getting back to normal this week and call me in for an interview. I have another place I'm going to check out tomorrow morning.

I've got to go get busy. Sorry I didn't get to everyone. I'll try to get back on later, but Vince is off today and tomorrow and I don't get to get on too much when he's around. :s:

 Have a great day everyone!

Good morning all. Its so beautiful here today the weather is very nice and the sky is so blue it hurts to look at it.;) Hope everyone is doing well this morning. Nancemeister I did get my name from the weather we have here sometimes to much lately:smug: . Thanks for the welcome from everyone. I am thinking of posting here exclusively. To much bickering is going on on the SB message board site. There is still a lot of help going on there tho so I will keep reading the posts just not posting there anymore. There is to much trouble in our world today and days past we have to help each other. Again thanks everyone for the welcome.

I just found them today in my onion bin:dizzy: Talk about forgetful:dizzy: . I even called my hubby at his work in South Louisiana and asked him did he remember me buying them:?: . HI ladies -
Myusual quickie. Just wanted to let you know that my mother is flying home as we speak and I can't wait till she gets there. It's been really hard on her but she has been a trooper as always.

My DH is in NYC as we speak - his tv station sent him down there yesterday and he has called from Ground Zero telling me some of the things he's seen. Needless to say, coming from NYC, he is quite emotional. Sometimes I feel like a cop's wife - I really don't want him there but understand he has to do his job.

We went to a BarMItzvah in Westchester this weekend. I was terrified we would hear stories of losses - miraculously, all we heard were stories of coincidental survival - someone getting to work late, having an out of town appt, etc. It was amzing. The moments of silence we had to remember the fallen and the Rabbi's acknowledgement were very healing. It was the purity of the reason we were there - to celebrate JUST this 13 year old boy's achievements - really helped.

Hope everyone is well and we can go on...

On another note, Ebay is doing an Auction for America thing where the $ made on the sales of specified items will go to a disaster fund. I am going to list some things under that banner soon, just have to reread the mechanics. On a more mundane note, I had put up all my old Weight Watchers materials a while ago and am amazed at how much interest - and bidding - they are getting. Who knew?

Hugs to all....

Hi everyone :)

I went out for a game of badminton this afternoon. The first time for a couple of weeks. I'm still stuffed up with a cold I have had for about 4 weeks and still coughing and wheezing but I am sick and tired of sitting around feeling sorry for myself so I decided to get out there and get moving.

Catlover - Both basmati and parboiled rice is o.k. Basmati has a g.i. of 58, brown rice 55(av), Uncle Ben's Converted 44 and parboiled 48. I've seen basmati rice discussed several times on Sweetalk. There was a post by Max sometime ago giving it the thumbs up. Here's an article explaining how parboiled rice is produced and why it is more nutritious than regular white rice. http://www.taunton.com/fc/features/ingredients/35rice.htm . When cooking it absorbs less water than regular rice and this is probably why the gi is lower as the grain stays more intact. JMHO

Thunder - Welcome to the board. Sounds like you have done really well on SB so far - 34 pounds in less than three months is fantastic. Just be careful if you wear a skirt with that baggy underwear, you could have an embarrassing moment

BOB - Glad to hear that you are O.K. and I hope things return to normal for you soon.

Viv - I hope your Mom got home safely.

Deb - What the heck are DINOSAUR PLUMS? Sounds like you are really improving with the jogging. Who knows before long you will be jogging more than walking. :D

Sorry I haven't responded to everyone but you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Bye for now.

Marie.

Hello all! I wish I had something motivating for Monday, but my general inspiration seems to be lacking. On a personal motivation note, my indoor tennis season started today with a group of women I never see during the summer. I got loads of complements from everyone about how great I look since last June. That will keep me staying OP and exercising!

Viv- Glad you mother is going home and held up so well. Mine is trying to leave, and flew to Germany today to get to France tomorrow. Hope you husband is safe, it must be terribly emotional to be at ground zero, no matter what you've seen before.

Solshine- There sure aren't many jobs! Have you tried monster.com or hotjobs.com? I sent my resume to 2 on monster last week, but haven't heard anything. Hopefully this week will pick up, I don't think too many companies were running at full speed last week. My dh is also job hunting and August was COMPLETELY dead in the technical market here. It was just flickering to life, according to the headhunters, then last week happened.

Frog and Nancemeister- Also thinking about you and your men- my brother is an Air Force pilot stationed in Corpus Christi on highest alert. Very nerve racking. His commitment is up next year and we were hoping he'd get out and into a safe commercial airline job. HA!

Deb- How's the running? I think we should all have a mini-marathon somewhere flat and cool! I ran and lifted too much last week and week-end and now am really sore and tired feeling. I tend to use exercise as a stress relief ( now that I've given up stuffing my face) and there sure has been a lot of stress, between horrific events and joblessness. Plus, I have fibromyalgia, which tends to flare during stress also. I'm afraid I've just substituted a new set of compulsive behaviors for the previous ones. At least these are healthier than eating bread and butter.

Sparkle- Glad to see you back on the board.

Susan - It's definitely more lean muscle mass!!! I tell myself that every day. But really, if you are losing inches and working out, it has to be that. Congratulations!

Well, time to go stare at the same old stuff in the fridge- chicken and vegies- and try to think up something new to do with it that my son will swallow.

bye for now, Mel:)

Hello All!

Well, I just wanted to touch base and let you all know that tomorrow is my thyroid surgery. We don't have to be at the hospital until noon and the surgery is scheduled for 1:30. I'll say that I am pretty nervous but just ready to have it over with. This is my first "knock-you-out" type thing so I'll just be happy after the fact. I'll have Paul email Deb to let her know how it went. I'm taking the rest of the week off, so I'm hoping to be back on the board with lots to say by Thursday. Yeehaw!!!! What happened to the good old Quilter who used to have oodles and oodles to say?????

I will check out what all has been written so far to keep up. Take care, my friends. Maybe with half a thyroid leaving, I'll lose a pound or two! Wonder how much one of those things weighs????? HA! I'll take any and all prayers in case you feel like sending up a few on my behalf!
Keep smiling!
Kim

Kim: I did a search on your posts to try to figure out what your thyroid surgery is all about but couldn't find anything, running short on time right now. Anyway I had my entire thyroid removed about 2 years ago for a 2 1/2 cm tumor and have had two subsequent radioiodine treatments. So if you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. If not, I would like to wish you luck.

Love,

Chris

Well, gals. How about some advice. I have just finished dinner and have added my food onto the data on Fitday. I have eaten 971 calories (so I guess I’ll need to eat some more food but am not hungry right now), and the breakdown is 26% fat, 23% protein, and 51% carbs. I would like to hit the SB recommendations of 30% fat, 30% protein and 40% carbs. But if I eat any more veggies, I’ll just be adding carbs.
Here’s what I had today:
B--1/8 wedge of a large honeydew melon
55 grams of Shredded wheat ‘n Bran
with 1/3 C raspberries and 1/2 C skim milk

L--1/2 loaf pita bread
1/3 C hummus
1 C cooked cabbage with tomato juice
about 1/4 C raspberries

D--One large salad with lettuce, tomato, onion,
1/3 C cottage cheese
1 chicken breast and Italian dressing, lo cal
1/8 wedge of honeydew melon

I guess I should have added some more meat here, but then it ups the fat grams, which, by the way, was 26 grams today.

I ran into SolShine today at the workout place we both go to. She looked great. She is a real trooper because she works out on all those machines all by herself. I’ve never LOVED (!!!) lifting those weights, so I pay a little extra to make an appointment and get someone to help me. Without that appointment, I don’t think I’d show up! I am not an exercise lover.

Well, I’m gonna surf the web a little tonight, so I’ll say goodbye for now. May check in later.

Evening Everyone:wave:

Didn't think it would be so late when I was finally able to get on the board. Had to go sit in for Mom for a few hours while she ran a couple of errands, then left her office and went and did a few errands of my own before I went to get Michael, then Lauren. Just finally getting on here, my turn on the computer.

Got in my 4.5 miles this morning, no great times, legs felt so heavy and I felt like I had weights attached to my thighs. I pushed myself to jog the usual 17 sprints that I do, but I barely made them. My back is bothering me a lot this evening, took some 222's a bit ago and they seem to not be kicking in all that quickly. I think tomorrow I'm just going to walk!

I can see more of what BEACHFAN was referring to about reaching goal. Here I am still being 100% legal, and exercising, and the scale remains on the upswing, not really going here or there. This month I've basically stayed the same-I like seeing the scale go down, down, down and now that I'm at goal, it's not happening anymore. I may have to hide that scale before the New Year if my psychie doesn't shape up!

I FINALLY got in touch with BOB! As FILLISE said in her post, she's fine, basically what she told FILLISE is what she told me. A tree fell on their electricty line, so that's why there is no power. Before work she went to see what was going on, they thought she'd have power back today, but not sure. She said she'd hop in the board as soon as the power was restored. Just happy to hear her voice and to know she was okay. Thought her cell phone was out of order as well-she never had it on! Geez, like doesn't she think we'd be trying to get her one way or another!

VIV & MELIRIS-wanted to with you both L' SHANAH TOVAH! For rest of you, that's HAPPY NEW YEAR for us that are Jewish. Hopefully, this tragic scene we experienced last week will be a thing of the past and we'll have a good year ahead of us-okay, I have to be a bit optimistic about it, can't start a New Year without some good thoughts.

NANCE, not as much rain here as they had up in Northern Fla. We've been lucky this hurricane season, actually, all summer, not much rain. Usually, I have to work my walks around rain, not this year, maybe missed going out a couple days. Eli and I never really do anything special, I enjoy going out with him anywhere we go-just being together, I don't care where. Wed. the kids Dad is off, and so is Eli, so I'm going to have him pick them up from school so we can spend the whole day out and maybe go to the flea market (indoor) up in Broward, lunch, Carbolite, HFS, etc. etc. I contacted FEARN about the Bran Muffin Mix I bought at the HFS near you, for some unknown reason they don't sell it out here-so, if I get desperate, I may send you some $$$ and ask you to get me a few boxes one day! How did Faris' therapy session go???

FILLISE, I'm right there with you on the scale issue-maybe both our scales have defects that just showed up this past week! I too have a hard time staying focused on most things, that's why it amazes me to think I've been following SB so well for 1 1/2 years (almost).

SOL, glad you had a nice time at that wedding:) Don't worry so much about the GI, as long as you have the basics down, that's what's important, don't get anal like me-it drives Eli bonkers. I'm not sure which I look at more, the ingredients or the sugar grams. I put ingredients on the poll, but I think I probably should of put the sugars instead, then ingredients would be next. Even if it say 0 grams of sugar and I see sugar listed in any form, I usually don't buy it.

THUNDER, glad you agree that we have a great bunch here on this board. It's very different than the ST board, we truly care about each other, and I must say, at least from my own experience, I have never met a finer bunch of women in my entire life-and I say that literally for 7of them! I've been lucky enough to meet QUILTER, NANCE, LDBLOND, BOB, GATOR, VIV and AMSER in person! I'm hoping to get to me SOL & FROG in January as well:) Oh yes, and we don't bicker on this board! Oh boy, can I relate to forgetting about things! I do that too often, use to blame it on the aspertame, but I haven't hardly any in over a year, so now I may have to blame it on my age! Actually, to be more honest, I buy stuff and don't make it, so by the time I look at it again, it's rotted!

VIV, glad to hear your Mom is due back shortly-let us know when she gets in. What is DH exactly doing down in NYC? Not a place I'd want to go right now, but I guess duty is calling him there.

ROSALIE, sorry to hear you're struggling with not feeling well for so long-hope you can shake it off really soon. Hope the game did you some good! LOL! DINOSAUR EGGS (sorry, I thought they were called DINOSAUR PLUMS) are a plum that just looks a bit different, but VERY juicy and sweet. I had seen them in the store, but had never tried them, being they were $4.99lb:eek: Went to Walmart last week and they had them marked down to $1.48 a pound. The produce guy let me try a piece and I was hooked. Went back yesterday and they had just a few left. I read about them first when I was looking at this site called MELISSA'S. Anyhow, here's the link so you can take a look at what they are: http://www.melissas.com/catalog/index.cfm?info=Yes&Cat_ID=50&Sub_Cat_ID=54&Cat_Name=Fruits&Sub_Cat_Name=Fresh%20Fruits&product_ID=438

MEL, isn't that nice when people who haven't seen you in a while notice what you've accomplished?!? It's harder for us, and those who see us each day to see the difference, but those who we don't see for a while see it easier. People I haven't seen in months can't believe it's me when they see me. I have to admit, I like it! Like you said, your new compulisions are better than the old, at least they are healthier, just don't get too obsessed and go overboard with the exercise. I had to get on SPARKLES case about that a few months ago!

QUILTER, glad I got to chat with you before tomorrow. Once again, GOOD LUCK! I'll be saying a special prayer for you. Tell Paul NOT TO FORGET to e-mail me and let me know how everything went!!!! {{{HUGS}}}

SPARKLE, what have you been up to lately???

GATOR, definitely need to get those calories up a bit. How about something like cottage cheese? It's good that you are keeping track, helps you to see what's going on with your eating. I rarely go below my calories. I usually keep my low at 1200, but keep a 1200-1400 range and usually I'm at the 1400-though on some days I can pack away 2000! Thank goodness those days only come once or twice a month!

Well gals, I'm hoping to go find something worth watching on the boob tube tonight. Eli should be home in an hour or so, guess I'll whip him up some hummus and gosh knows what else for dinner.

I hope you all have a wonderful evening. Tomorrow is chat night, but since I haven't a clue what time BIG BROTHER is on tonight, or even IF it's on tomorrow night. If it's on at 9pm est, I won't be on chat, but if it's on earlier, I will be-so since not everyone likes BB, I hope that at least a few of you/us will show up for the CHAT AT 9:15PM EST! Let me know if anyone plans on showing up!!! I miss chatting with you all!!

Have a good evening!

Quick post from the missing!!!! LOL Have not had much time to post. Still getting used to having time to myself in the A.M while my little one is in Kindergartern. So I try to smush all my mommy things in then so she dosn't have to deal with them later. Still excersising as much as usual. The scale went back down to 138.5 last Wends. I was happy but i don't think its going down to far this week. I am trying though. My fridge is boken :( so having a hard tome getting the stuff we need. The repair dude is comming tomorrow.

Quilter-good luck tomorrow i will be thinking of you.

nance-glad hubby will stay in the states. Its a scarey thing this world! glad we have people like him to protect us though

Deb-hey!!!!! thanks for the motivation this a.m

Viv-Man your to close to all of this. I had to get out of the house this week end to get away from the t.v. I was getting depressing. It was really sad last night when i was putting my little one to bed and she heard a plane going over the house she stuck her head under the pillow. I really hate this world sometimes. How are your kids handling this? My older ones are more mad about the silly t.v than anything else. So selfish but thats the age.

Thunder-Welcome!!!!!

Rosalie-Badmitton sounded fun. That cold season is comming here too. we all are stuffed and sneezing. I hate germs!!! LOL

Gator-have fun with the weights!!!!! they have helped me alot. I definatly have definition!

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!! :D

OH.....,MY.........GAWD.........!!!!!!! WHAT A WEEKEND!!!!

NO POWER FROM FRIDAY 6:30 A.M. ~~~ HAD TO GO TO A MOTEL SO WE WOULD HAVE AIR CONDITIONER....KINDA LIKE A MINI VACATION WAITING ON THE FOOD TO ROT IN THE FRIDGE AND THE FREEZER!!!
Skeeter was definately on VACATION...looked so cute in his little trunks and sun glasses....that boy is a diver....he is konked out and in the bed already...
POWER BACK ON TODAY AROUND 4PM....BACK OFF AGAIN AT 8:15 p.m.!!!!! and yes, I call Fla Power & Light and showed my arse!!!! BACK ON AROUND 9:30 p.m.

No structure damage, but WATER WATER WATER everywhere...the storm blew at my front...rain came in under my front door and has probably ruined the carpet just inside the door. I lost everything in my fridge freezer and my chest freezer..
Have a huge Australian Pine in the back yard that will definately go in the next big blow...Going to call the insurance man tomorrow and check on getting that out ahead of time...
BUT everyone is ok...we got much more than Laurie got in her town. It came earlier than expected but left a "WALLOP" and a lot of rain...ELECTRIC WORKERS have come from far and wide to help FPL get the job done...fifty rooms where I was...ALABAMA workers....that means ALABAMA FANS....and don't think they didn't see my TENNESSEE stuff on my car!!!

Gals....I'm pooped....this mini vacation wore me out!! I'll get with everyone later

ONE QUICK ONE.......GATOR You've made my jello before...It's a good one, but I suggest using whipping cream instead of cool whip...it's yummy...in fact, I might make one myself!

Everyone have a safe evening and sleep tight....

BIG BROTHER at 8pm TOMORROW (tuesday) TWO HOUR SHOW!!!!

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR WONDERING WHERE I WAS....

I posted a recipe for Crustless Crabmeat Quiche on the September recipe board. I made it tonight and it was yummy!

I finally went over the fitday and entered in all my eating and exercise for today. According to that I burned 3131 calories today, and took in 1387! Today was pretty typical for both activity (on a workout day) and food. In fact I ate all day long! So what's up with this stupid scale--I'm coming very close to pitching it!

Motivational Monday--this is especially for all you maintenance gals(Deb, Beach. . . others). This is from Susan Powter's Book "stop the insanity"--ok how many of you have this on your shelf from bygone diet days????? Deb triggered a memory of something I read there--

She has a chapter on enjoying the process--it's not so much the goal as the process of achieving the goal. It's all the little victories--every time you go down another size--the compliments from your friends--being able to wlak farther and faster, etc. In fact most successful people from all walks of life beleive that "getting there" was more fun and fulfilling than "being there." So when one goal is achieved, we need to find another one. For those of us whp aren't there yet--the words of wisdom are to ENJOY THE PROCESS!

Deb and Viv--OK, you chickies need to go shopping. Maybe it's just what you had on that day (although Deb, I think every picture I've seen of you is in that blue blouse)--but your clothes are too big! You are both beautiful, normal sized women--buy some clothes that show off those fabulous bods! One thingI've learned--whether the scale is moving up or down--we always look better in clothes that fit! How difficult is it to get out of the midset that things have to be big and blousy? You girls can actually tuck stuff in--and will look fabulous!

Kim--Good Luck on the surgery tomorrow. If you read this before you go--one thing I discovered--if anesthesia makes you nauseous--drink the Sprite they give you in the recovery room. I tried and tried to hold out and only drink water--when I finally reached a deep shade of green the nurse practically force fed me a couple of swallows of Sprite (this was the same nurse who had been grilled pre-op about the content of the IV solutions). The nausea subsided instantly. I truly think that was one extreme situation where my BS was was way too low. Don't fight it while you are in recovery. As soon as you are able let us know how it goes--I'll be thinking about you tomorrow!

Rhoo--congrats on upcoming SB anniversary. You've done great! Your weightloss is awesome--but not as awesome and you are on this board. I love that I've met you and everyone else here!

Gator--I too was surprised by my caloric intake. 971 is way too low--but your menu looked good to me! Maybe you could add some additional protein at lunch!

Viv, Merlis, and Deb--L' SHANAH TOVAH!

Just wanted to check in. I've not been able to post, partly because I have been sooo busy and partly because I've been so sad. I've finally begun to put my feelings down on paper. I just couldn't make myself type anything. I'll share my poem with you when I finish it.

Congratulations on those of you who've lost pounds and inches. It does feel good. The scales gave up two more pounds this week. And a pair of pants felt like they were going to fall off today.

Thunder: Welcome to the board. Know something funny? I have relatives in OLLA!!! I grew up in Monroe, so we have a little bit in common.

Viv: Hope your mom is back safe and sound now. I know you are relieved.

Deb: Wish I had the motivation that you do about jogging. I can't seem to get my rear on the bike this week. I need a swift kick.

Marie: Hope your cold gets better soon. Nothing worse than coughing and sneezing!

Kim: I'll keep you in my thoughts tomorrow.

BOB: So glad you are okay.

RHOO: Congrats on your SB anniversary. I hope I'm that successful in a year's time.

I'm headed for bed now, been watching Dan Rather and Dave Letterman. Can't believe how emotional Dan is. He's apologizing, but shouldn't. I'm glad to see someone who is willing to show just how affected we all are.

Hi eveyone - Still in a daze about the happenings in New York. Can't image what our fellow Americans are going through.

The following article came in an e-mail newsletter today and I thought it might be of interest. I've noticed a marked decrease in stomach problems while on SB and thought it was mostly due to the increase in fiber. Maybe the leveling out of my blood sugar is a part of the improvement.

Effects of Poor Blood Sugar

Sept. 17, 2001 (Ivanhoe Newswire) — Diabetics with poor blood sugar control appear to suffer more frequently from gastrointestinal symptoms such as heartburn, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and nausea, say Australian researchers who conducted a random survey of more than 15,000 adults. They found no link, however, between gastrointestinal symptoms and how long the subjects had had diabetes or what kind of medications they took for the disease.

According to the researchers, who published their findings in this month's Archives of Internal Medicine, gastrointestinal problems are commonly reported by people with diabetes. But doctors have been unsure whether there is really a link between the disease and these symptoms or whether they occur independently. Large studies comparing gastrointestinal problems in diabetics with those in the general population have been lacking.

In this study, researchers mailed a questionnaire on the frequency of 16 troublesome gastrointestinal symptoms, diabetic status, and blood sugar control to 15,000 adults. Of the more than 8,600 who responded, 423 had diabetes. After adjusting for other factors that could influence the prevalence of gastrointestinal symptoms, the investigators found significantly more incidence of all of the 16 gastrointestinal symptoms in those with diabetes, with those reporting poor blood sugar control having more severe symptoms than those with good blood sugar control.

Hi Gals! Just a quickie before we head out later this morning. Boy, am I thirsty! Don't really feel like eating, but could down a big glass of water in a heartbeat.

BOB---Thank God you are okay! Sorry to hear that the water did some dirty work and that you lost everything in your freezer. But it could have been way worse. I'll bet you are thanking your lucky starts that the tree out back decided to hang on a bit longer.

FILLISE---Thanks for the tip on the Sprite. Hopefully, I'll be "with it" enough to remember your advice. I'll probably be ready to drink whatever they give me.

DEB---I enjoyed our chat last night. You are too funny. I will have to try your egg salad idea with the egg beaters. Sounds like a winner. Paul has a list of calls and emails to make. I'm not sure if he's taking his laptop with him to the hospital. If he does, then he can contact you. If he doesn't and spends the night with me there, you may not hear anything until tomorrow.

JRED & RHROO---Thanks for the good thoughts you are sending my way. I'll take all I can get!!!!!

CHRIS---I'm having a hemithyroidectomy because I have two cysts on my thyroid. One is fairly large and has been biopsied twice. Both came back negative, but I'm ready to be rid of them. Tired of waiting around to have them turn into something bad. That's what the surgery is all about. Thanks for asking. I have been really surprised at how common thyroid surgery is. Everywhere you turn, somebody is telling you about their thyroid problems. That makes me feel a little better since I'm having the pre-op jitters.

Take care you all. I will try to be back on the board in a couple of days. Of course, you realize you'll all have to listen to my hospital stories. HAHAHA!!! What are friends for, right??? Hope tomorrow brings lots of pounds lost and high spirits!

Still stuck---arrrggghhh! I'm gonna give Fitday a week. I don't like counting calories--but I do want to get a handle on my food consumption to see what percentages of fats, carbs, and proteins I am consuming. I did something similar when I first started SB because I had no idea what proper portions were. I kept track for about two weeks until I got a good idea of what I should be doing. I'll see if this helps now.

Kim--thoughts are prayers are with you today--good luck! Thyroid problems run in my family (mother, grandmother, aunts, etc) but so far I seem to have escaped. My Dr. tests me regularly because of the family history. You are right Thyroid problems are fairly common.

Karen--Thanks for the article on blook sugar. I know that since beginning SB over a year ago I have gone from daily heartburn to none. I haven't eaten a pepcid or Tums in well over a year--before they were one of my major food groups! If for no other reason--this would keep me following a low gylcemic lifestyle. If I do slip and eat a high glycemic meal--the first sign is heartburn--it's the only time I get it now!

jred--This has been an awful week for us all. I will look forward to reading your poem. I tear up at all those stupid commercials on TV that convey sympathy to the victims.

I hope everyone has a good day!

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone:wave:

Didn't really feel like walking today, but went the 4.5 miles, thought I better since we have our pending WIW tomorrow. With there not being any school today, I slept an extra hour and went out later than normal, aout 8:45am, so it was hotter than it usually is when I walk. Didn't do any jogs, took it easy today.

Hope you enjoyed seeing the pictures I posted. I'll have some new ones with NANCE & LDBLOND soon, probably next week. When I look at the one of VIV & I, I realized that I've only lost 11-13 pounds since that picture, and that was 6 months ago!

Thinking about QUILTER this morning-lets all say a prayer for her that all goes smoothley with her surgery today. I'll let you know as soon as I get an e-mail from Paul!!!

Today is TUESDAY TIPS. I found this while doing one of my many web searches and thought it was too good not to post:

BROWN BREAD

Brown bread is not always more nutritious than white. In fact, the brown color is often just a marketing gimmick, just white bread with coloring added (like a fake tan). To tell if a brown bread is really more nutritious, read the label. If the first ingredient is "whole wheat," this is a healthy food. If it says "bleached" or "enriched" flour, or just wheat flour, it is just colored white bread. Some labels will say only "wheat flour," which is 75 percent white and 25 percent whole wheat. Always check the label rather than going by color.

Can't believe it, was walking and realized that this Saturday will be
1 1/2 years following SB!!!! Just doesn't seem like it's been that long.

RHROO, good luck on WIW tomorrow!!!

BOB, glad to see you back where you belong! We were all wondering if you'd been swimming with the gators after all the rains up there. I hope you took pictures of Skeeter in his skivies with his Ray Ban's sunning himself out near the pool at the hotel. Will the insurance company reimburse you for all the food that spoiled? Make a big stink about the stinking food if they don't!

FILLISE, that recipe sounds yummy! I posted a crab recipe a while back as well, will have to compare the two. Okay, what the heck did you do to burn over 3000 calories???? My walk/jogs only burn around 300 or so, can't imagine what you did, and that it didn't kill you! Thanks for the excerpt from Powters book, it's true-I need to find a new goal-like getting my house clean! But alas, it doesn't have the same high as when you see the scale move downwards into new territory. Yes, I do admit, that blue blouse has surfaced in too many pictures, but the funny thing is, I haven't worn that once in well over a month! I don't know why I was wearing it every time the camera was on me. True, it is big, but wasn't when I bought it, though I never buy ANYTHING fitted, can't have something hugging my fat roles, drives me bonkers! You'll see when I get the pics developed from my trip when we went to see NANCE & LDBLOND that not once did that blue blouse materalize, didn't even take it with me!:D But, tuck something in-NEVER!!!!! Thanks for the New Year wishes!!!

JRED, CONGRATS on another 2lbs down the drain!!! You're doing so well!!! It's good to be able to put pen to pad when you aren't able to express yourself in words to others-very theraputic, I think. Look forward to reading your poem.

KAREN, thanks for posting that article. QUILTER has mentioned in the past that she seems to be having less stomach trouble since increasing fruit intake.

QUILTER, thoughts, prayers and a load of {{{{HUGS}}} are with you today!!!! Just remember to keep that hospital gown tied tight-those things have a way of exposing areas we'd rather keep hidden! That would sure give you an interesting hospital story to tell, for sure! I'll await Pauls e-mail!!!!

Gals, 2 hour BIG BROTHER is on tonight, so for me, I won't be at chat, sorry-but hopefully, others will show up. Maybe we can schedule it for another evening-any thoughts????

Well, tomorrow is WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY! and I hope and pray we all have good results with the scales tomorrow!:)

I'll try to check in sometime later today, until then, have a good one!

Hi all. I'm still kicking. Just real busy. I haven't had time to read. Gosh, I so dislike getting behind on posts. Will catch up today.

Still op. A fellow driver asked me what I'm doing today. I guess it's really starting to show. Watching for overconfidence/slip to happen. Thinking maybe it won't though since it's more of a woe.

Anyway, there goes the disjointed thoughts. Real sad they haven't found anyone in New York yet. Had real high hopes.

Good afternoon everyone. I got my exercise in this morning, I push mowed my yard:cry: not that I get to do it any other way:lol: . We have a huge lot and its hard work but good exercise for me. Glad to see things going back to normal (almost). I can't help but wonder everytime I hear a airplane going over if its safe at all. I'll be glad when my hubby gets home Thursday morning. Hes been gone since the first of the month. It wouldn't have been so bad except with everything going on I would have like to have him at home to hold on to. Kinda makes a person want to look over their shoulders all the time now. Glad to see everyone in Florida weathered the storm without any life loses. j red glad to know someone has relative so close to here. I was born and raised here and love being in this area during the spring its so pretty and green. Except for the mosqitos:eek: . Fillise--I agree with you 100% re. Deb’s and Viv’s clothes. Might as well be fat if you’re gonna wear fat clothes. After all that work, I’d be wearing something that showed everyone that I was no longer a size 16 or whatever. Deb and Viv, we are not being mean, we just are encouraging you to move to a new mind set about how you look. You look great! And you don’t have to hide behind baggy clothes any more!!!

To all of you “Chosen People” --- L' SHANAH TOVAH! May the holidays be blessed. And may your new year be sweet. Since we SBers don’t eat honey, a big gift of agave nectar to you all!

How do you gals get in enough protein without going high on the fat grams? Getting carbs is easy--Veggies give carbs. But protein always seems to have plenty of fat. Any hints.

Hey All:wave:

House is mine, all mine!!!!:s: Kids Dad took them to Temple (I'm not a religious Jew and I don't go, not that I'm proud of this, just honest). Eli's at work to gawd knows when, stayed up til midnight waiting for him to go home and finally gave up and went to bed. He's short 2 people for tonight, so most likely, he'll be staying there til more wee hours of the night!:(

Got a little done in the house. I think this is going to be my new goal for myself, get my house in order. It's going to take a longgggg time though, but I HAVE to do this! Actually, it's hereditary to be this messy, I truly believe I got this from my Mother-my sister is the same:rolleyes: Let's see how long this goal lasts (I can tell you, feels like about 2 seconds right now!).

Eli's off from work tomorrow, or at least he's suppose to be, lets see if he comes home with some news that he has to work-I won't be happy. Otherwise, we'll head up to Broward-want to go to the indoor flea market up there, they have some great slouch socks that I like to wear when I walk, not to mention cheap veggies and fruits. Eli told me that Starbucks cancelled their convention that was suppose to take place in Colorado next month-can't blame them and I'm a bit relieved. My parents cancelled their trip to Chicago as well, they were suppose to leave next week. They still plan to go to Vegas in Nov. though.

FLY, that's great that others are noticing your new bod! WOW, just 18 more to go, you're almost there!!!!!

THUNDER, I don't remember if you said what your DH does or not-if so, sorry, please remind me:) I'm sure it will be a relief for you to have him home again.

GATOR, 1/4 of my protein seems to come from the chicken salad sandwich I have daily-2 1/2 ounces chicken is 22 grams, some other ideas: 1/2 cup egg beaters has 12 grams, skim milk has 9 grams a cup, 1oz lf cheese has 9 grams, yogurt has 8 grams, can of tuna 30 grams- all low in fat! If I added up all the fat grams of all the above you'd have only 7 grams of fat, but 90 grams of protein-so really, it's not so hard:) I shoot for 82 grams of protein a day and rarely do I ever have trouble meeting those numbers. Thanks for such a nice New Year thought:) I do have clothes, honestly, I do-but once I bought a few things, they all got a bit big-PLUS the shirts I am wearing now, for instance, I bought 3 in different colors, camp shirts, their size small, I can't take anything smaller, but they may look a little big, but they aren't. I can't wear anything fitted, if you saw my earlier post, I won't wear anything that's slinky material that lies on my fat rolls, it has to have some stiffness to the material for me to wear it. I need to get these areas sucked out, then I'll wear something fitted!

Guess I'll go back to clearing off the dining room table. I have bag o MC receipts I should go through, throw away what I've already gotten a bill for-there are hundreds. I have a tendency to shy away from paperwork, amongst other things.

Have a good evening, don't know if I'll get back on later or not!!!

Toodles

Hey Ladies - Thanks for all the good wishes about my Mom. She got home safe and sound late last nite....now I can breathe easy.

Gator and Fillise - I am sure your comments were well intentioned, but I didn't realize my size small Fresh Produce dress was considered "Fat clothes". If I ever decide to post another picture, I'll be sure to wear my bikini. Then you would really have something to critique!

GatorGal

Hi Viv--We were not criticizing. I promise!! You look like a babe. Nice thin arms, face, legs, chin, etc. One problem with a forum on the net is that we miss the facial expressions or voices as we "talk" to one another. So I regret that I did not take that into consideration when "talking." We all have had our bout with clothes designed to hide the maximum, and so when we see some of our own look so great, we just want to celebrate how good you look with some clothes that don't hide your success. That's all. For us who have struggled with weight for years, and are used to the mind set that "clothes that hide" are best, it is sometimes hard to change. So we just wanted to make sure you were not in that mind set, that's all. OK?

Debbie--Thanks for info on protein. I'll have to add more tuna fish and low fat cheese. I often have one of the Chicken by George chicken breasts. It is 4 oz. and has 21 grams of protein. Maybe I should up it to 2 a day. Haven't gotten used to egg beaters yet. I had a whole scrambled egg plus one egg white today. It was just OK. I usually have a soft boiled egg for breakfast. Those whole eggs have plenty of fat grams for such a small thing.

Fillise
09-18-2001, 10:49 PM
Viv and Deb--I meant my comments about your clothes as a compliment! You both look fabulous! I have a bunch of those shift-dresses (they are the most comfortable things in the world). But they do tend to hide one's assets (in fact, that's why I love 'em!). As my body shrinks I have to make myself think a bit differently about clothes. I'm a long way from where the two of you are--but already I can wear clothes I wouldn't dream of wearing before (thought the bikni will have to wait a while longer--maybe next summer).

Gator--I know what you mean about the protein/fat combo. I had a steak tonight (lean, top sirloin) and a handful of pistachio nuts as a snack--and oh my gosh the fat grams went through the roof. At least the nuts are the "good" fat. Maybe this is why they tell you not to count fat grams in the book! I don't even want to know what happens when I have my artichoke dipped in lemon butter :^: .

Fly--isn't it great when people start to notice the weight loss? Keep up the good work!

Thunder--gosh that push mower sounds like great exercise!

BOB--glad to hear you are back at home. Take this opportunity to restock the freezor and fridge with good OP staples! Congrats on the little one--Fortunatly people in Auburn are breeding rapidly. That should save me from having to spawn (and at my age--it really would be swimming upstream!) 1n order not to let thos UT folks get the upper hand:s: .

I hope WIW is good to everyone tomorrow.

Hello

Glad to see more posts here now. It has been a rough week, but
we still need each other.

BOB so glad you have been found. Sorry to hear the problems you have had from the storm. I did have it much easier than you.
We even did elective surgery on Friday. Tells you it wasn't that bad. Or maybe we were just that stupid.

Deb, I agree with the others,,,,keep your eyes open for a bargain here and there, and show off what you have been working so hard for.

Quilter...by now your surgery is behind you. I hope that it went well, and all is ok. Atleast this is one surgery that usually has a quick recovery. I had my thyroid out three years ago and only missed one week of work. You are in my thoughts.

I wish eveyone well for WIW tomorrow. I have set another goal of losing 12 pounds by Oct 27th. that way I can half way to me goal on my one year anniv. ANd I know I can do this, I just have to stay focused.

Well, wishing each and everyone a great day and will keep you all in my prayers.

A good WIW morning to you all. I managed to drop 2 lbs this week. 190/175/173. I am going to try and lose those 3 lbs by the end of the month.

Welcome Shannon.

Rosalie - thanks for the info on the white rice.

Bob - glad you are safe and sound. Sorry to hear about water damage and loss of food. But at least your safe.

For you golfers out there. I made my 2nd birdie on a Par 3 hole. What a glorius feeling. Its times like that I like the game of golf. I even had a 115 after 18 holes. Not bad for a beginner!!!!! Not ready for the LPGA yet though.:D

Looks like we might be getting some new members. Alot of people are really dissatified with the Sugar Buster board. Thats good though. The more the merrier.

Well gotta go- have a nail appointment.

Have a wonderful day.

Bee-Your kind words were a soothing balm to our wounds. God Bless you. Did your country lose anyone?

Melf-Thank you for thinking of me. Just 3 lbs. from goal. So great!!! Your words of wisdom were so uplifting!

Karen-loved your chocolate & addiction report. I must stay away from it. It is total "red flag" for me. I could never stop at just one.

Deb-I love that I'm not alone in suffering from "missing item syndrome" when I comes to child's rooms. Think they are cleptomaniacs? The articles were touching. Eli's story was so sad. So glad he's happy now. Lauren is so beautiful. You go on that walking and find a bargain for me!

Bob-So glad you are safe if a little soggy. Happy to hear Skeeters not wasting away without his Dog Chow. Now you must rub his tummy for me. I knew Mommy wouldn't let him starve. Happy for Cathy! Are the games back on yet?

Rosalie-Lifting weights didn't have any effect on my underarms. The new muscle tone just distracted from the sags. So glad you're not giving into sickness and I know you'll be wise in not overdoing it.

Thunder-33 lbs! You go girl! So glad you are seeing such postive changes. Baggy drawers lol. I think Victoria Secrets is having a sale. Go for it.

Fillese-loved your article. So glad you found that hip bone. It's fun isn't it. Your soothing words were so welcome too.

Sol-:) I remember COBRA. It totally sucks. Happy anniversary and good luck in the job searcch. Tell Vince we pray we won't need him. I've heard word about restarting the draft. I pray that won't be necessary either.

Mel, Deb, & viv-When I first started reading the Bible I was soooooo jealous of you Chosen Ones. That's what I wanted to be. Now I'm happy with who I am and realize we are brothers. so L'Shanah Tovah!

Mel-good luck job hunting too.

Nancy-So sad Dan. Couldn't find a flag either. Pics were awesome. You have such a handsome family. My prayers are with you and Dan too.

Frog-I also hope Dh not called. It sucked to be on medication this week for a bladder infection and not able to give blood. At least they take money.

Gator-Glad you had fun. You and Sol are lucky to have workout pals.

Viv-So glad mom is safe. Loved that pose in the pics. If we must pose in bikinis I'm going to have to find a new board. I can't even put on a dress. Hate to have the hips show.

Quilter-How was the surgery? How much did you lose?

Rhoo-broken fridge. How did you survive? That's awful.

Amser-You and dh make a beautiful couple.

jred-happy to hear from you.

Ok..here's my thoughts. I loved seeing the prayer service on tv complete with Billy Graham urging us to return to God. I guess I had become somewhat cynical but I wasn't able to predict the support from all the other countries in the world. All the people who were in prayer vigils and giving blood and money. All the business leaders pledging to not allow economy to fall. All the Congress showing total support in bills and putting aside their differences to be leaders! These all gave me hope and faith.

What puzzles me is why all these military people are being called up and deployed and yet we're told that we are in for a different kind of war. Any thoughts?

Lastly, I am saddened by the crimes committed on innocent people and the suspicion of totally innocent citizens. My dear friend's husband is Colombian and he's having problems. Staring, nasty comments. For Goodness Sakes.

Catlover-A birdie! Way to go. LPGA here you come!
Well, Love to you.

OK - I'm back - been lurking, just not in the mood to post.

Last week was just too depressing and this week isn't much better. I just wish they could find the people or be able to confirm the deaths so that the families wouldn't have to live in the unknown. It must be horrible for them.:(

My new dosage of tyroid meds is working I think - WIW is down for me for the first time in FOREVER! :o It is even that TOM for me and I've cheated just a little - WOW!

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone!

Woke up this morning to hop on the scale and got mad. Mad? Mad at who, made at what? The scale didn't show any loss for me, stayed the same as last week, and still up 2lbs. from my low, so I was mad, but mad at the scale, an inanimate object? A lot of good being mad at a scale is gonna do me, like the scale really cares! Mad at myself, again I asked myself, why, for what? I haven't done anything wrong. I've been OP since day 1, so nothing has changed there, I've been walking 5-6 days a week-how can I be mad at myself? I've made my goal weight, I've been here for 3 months below my goal weight, I should be happy. So I pondered as I tried to decide if I should take today off from walking as I intended to do, I was mad, the scale didn't show a loss, why bother killing myself to go out walking. Then my conscience kicked in, saying I was up, it was a nice morning, get your *** out there and go. So go, I did. I figured I'd get in 2 miles, just to say I was out there, then decided on 3.5-ended up going the full 4.5 miles I usually do, but just walking. Had time to think, one thing I really like about going out there alone, gives you time to reflect and think about stuff.

As I was thinking, I realized that I need to find out what's really bothering me about the whole scenario I described above. I realized that of all the hundreds of times I've started a diet in the past, only 3 times, including now, have I ever reached my intended goal weight. Why wasn't I able to stay at the number that was so important for me to attain at that time? I know the last time I lost the weight I had to find out the hard way that I truly had an emotional eating problem and dealt with everything with food, probably the other time before that one as well. Now, I know I'm a recovering emotional eater and that's no longer the case now, but here's another problem-what mindset do I need to make sure I stay where I am now?? Why has anyone in the past that's reached their intended goal weight gained the weight back, whether it be some or all of it? I think this is the $64,000 question that needs answering.

I do know one thing that's bothering me. Here I am, at my goal weight, below my goal weight-a weight I never thought I'd ever see, a weight I can't ever remember being and yet, the body, the way I see myself in the mirror doesn't match what I feel I should look like being this weight. I think it bothers me that I can't wear sleeveless clothes, I can't wear anything above my calves, I can't wear anything fitted. I would love to, but when you have arms that sag and hang like flags in the wind, with a big hump on your arm, you have thighs that look like elephant skin and you have rolls of fat that just hang off your back, it's hard to even think about wearing stuff like I mentioned. I could never do it, knowing what I look like and thinking stuff like that would look good on me. So, I stick with pants to my ankles, I wear long sleeved shirt and I wear shirts that have some sort of a stiffer material so it doesn't lie on my fat. THANK GOODNESS FOR BRAS!! I wish it was only one problem, because I'd have it fixed surgically, but the way I look, I need a full body make-over! I think this may have answered my own question, but still, I need to find a solution to this problem.

During my walk, it also made me think of a polling question for this coming week. I never let you all know the question ahead of time, (usually I don't know until I make one up myself), but this week, I will, because I want you to think about it and have time to count and get as accurate an answer as you can. So here it is, you have til Monday to come up with the answer:

IN PAST YEARS, HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU REACHED YOUR INTENDED GOAL WEIGHT AFTER GOING ON A DIET?

Anyhow, I also realized it was mid-cycle for me, so I am usually up during this time, so as I always have been, and claim for everyone else to be, I'm being patient and hoping the scale will take a downward turn in the next few days.

Any thoughts, ideas, kicking my butt? Enough of my pitty party!!!!

Eli is off today like I mentioned. I'm going to get in the shower and get ready, but we won't leave til after John Edwards show-I'm so hooked!

I still have not heard from Paul, so awaiting to hear how QUILTER did with her surgery.

BOB, LOL, when you first said MY BABY IS PREGNANT I thought you meant Skeeter, but then said, he's a boy! That's exciting to have another family, or should I say TENN. FAN on the way! Ummm, don't blame me for your messy house-blame Mom!!!! What did you think about BB? I wonder what Monica's reaction was when she saw what really had happened while she was behind closed doors.

GATOR, I'm sure the fat from the egg doesn't make a whole lot of difference, if you enjoy it, eat it. The 4.5 grams of fat in an egg is really not much when you think about it. I've just gotten use to the Egg Beaters, with some cheese when I make an omelette, it tastes better, but plain, I couldn't eat it like that. Just started using it to make egg salad and I REALLY like it a lot-why I didn't think about it before this, I don't know.

FILLISE, I realized what you said was the way you intended it, no need to apologize to me-trust me, I know when something looks like drek on me, no one is more critical than I am about myself. I have a little chart from a mag about nuts, will try to get that posted in the upcoming days, it may help when you want a nut snack:) Please, let us know what the latest word is for your Dad!

CAT, CONGRATS on this weeks loss! Congrats on the golf too, though I surely don't understand anything about that game!!

LAMAP, good luck to you today on WIW. And good luck on your next mini goal-definitely attainable!!!

FLY, here's another thing to ponder, where do the socks go, you put two in the wash, only 1 comes out!!!!:?:

TV, CONGRATS on the loss-how much? Glad to hear the meds are working for you!!!

Well gals, time for me to hit the shower and get ready to go out with my MAN for the day. BTW, he made the most delicious chicken last night-it was awesome!!! I love a man that can cook, esp since I hate doing so!!!!

Please remember, TOMORROW IS RECIPE DAY so if you have any SB LEGAL RECIPES you'd like to share with the board, please, try to post them tomorrow.

And I do wish you all good luck for today's WIW!!!

Hi gals, I didn't weigh today. I think I will go for about a month without weighing and just focusing on staying faithfully OP. Then I'll weigh and be happy with a loss. I hope that I'll lose about 5 pounds this month. I could handle that just fine!

Debbie. Have you ever considered working out with weights. It really tones up those sagging areas and you'll see amazing results. All that "flab" will look taut and you won't feel like you'll need to still wear clothes that totally cover up. And at your age, you'll see better results than I would.

Gotta go. Have a meeting in 20 minutes 20 minutes from here.

Hi Ladies -
Another quickie from Viv...

I am getting overwhelmed with all the ways there are to contribute to help with this disaster. Finally DH told me his station is matching contributions, so that makes the most sense to us - plus, he wants to donate his overtime money that he made in NYC covering the disaster, so another no brainer there. I think, tho, there should be one central agency collecting and distributing - it's getting a little confusing, I think.

On to a more mundane subject, I had put all my old WW materials up on Ebay - my goodness, you'd think the stuff was gold! Bidding's not even over and my opening bid has tripled. I know I will never go back to WW - SB is the way to go!

Gator and Fillise - Thanks for your responses. 'nuf said.

BOB - congrats on the pregnancy. I also thought you meant Skeeter and boy, that would have been a miracle. Glad you are home safe and sound.

Fillise - hope your dad is okay - keep us posted.

Kimmi - Hope you did well with the surgery and please let me know if you got my emails - my system has major issues with your address!! :dizzy:

CAT - Congrats on the -2!

Nance - what a beautiful photo. You do have a gorgeous smile, and a lovely family.

VA - Thanks for the New Years wishes. Let's hope for peace during this one.

Deb - I understand your frustrations. As low as I have gotten now, and as happy as I am, I know I have been lower in the past. Do I have to be that low again? No.....but I know as good as I feel now, I've been here before. It can be very defeating, but I look in the mirror now, as a "middle-aged" mother of two, and I look around me, I'm at the low end of things. I need to keep things in perspective. As far as the "flab" issue goes, I have never heard you talk about any kind of weight training - you work so hard aerobically with your walking - can you cut back a mile, get some free weights and do some routines while watching TV? I know when I train I see a difference in very little time. The flab issue is one that many women who have lost so much weight share - my old secretary lost 90 lbs at my urging, on WW, years ago - she became a bit of a gym rat and was soon wearing tankinis....I'm not much of a gym goer but the free weights - even the 3 or 5 pounders, may be helpful. What do you think?

OK, used more than my allotted time...:o Hope everyone has a great OP day!

Hi, just thought I'd let you know not only did I go to the gym and do a full body workout but ran 2 miles to boot. It's all because of all you wonderful ladies doing it too.

Deb-socks....ha,ha,ha. For years I kept a basket of unmatched socks that needed the mate and finally (duh) I got the point they were gone forever. It was fun throwing that huge basket out. I've always fought against being a pack rat. I really like clearing out stuff now.

Regarding your challenge. I am looking forward to experiencing that quandry myself in the near future. The thoughts that ran through my mind is that I think I would feel that I had put in soooo much energy to getting to goal that I would be a little let down. I would be incredibly disappointed that my body didn't reflect the media beauty image. I think I would really feel cheated! I think Viv may have some good advice there with the weights. It is a very empowering experience. Loved my body despite turning the dreaded 4 0.

Well bye guys,

Like the phoenix rising up from the ashes, here I am....

I have not fallen off the face of the earth, maybe just the board for a bit. I have been struggling to stay 100%, and I just didn't want to keep whining about it. Also I have been wrapped up abit still with looking out for my gm. Due to financial matters, we moved her out of the assisted living place, into an apartment. The apartment is fine, but she is shut off from outside human participation and it has been taking a toll on her.. and us:spin:

Then when all this horror took place last week...... I like everyone was a bit consumed with it most of the time. I have been doing alot of praying. Don't think I am cold-hearted, but I haven't been crying. I am sad, but at the same time, I am not so surprised by all this happening. It's like Viv mentioned, Armagaddon????

I would like to share some news that was good for me. Last week I was trying hard to stay as 100% as possible in additon to getting back to the ol TM routine. Well I walked 4 times last week, and on Sat, 9/15, when I got on the scale, it was..DRUM ROLL>>>> 120!!!!!!!!! My lowest weight since being on SB. From what I can remember, it has been 5 years since I weighed in that low. Ok, page two, we had a party we went to Saturday afternoon, and well, uh, let's just say since then I have been up. I take full responsibilty for my actions. I did weigh in this morning, and I am not too discouraged with myself. I am 121. Knowing that I can back to 120 keeps my sprits up. And from there, I will work on 115. I am moved my goal date to maybe Christmas now for 115. I am learning from this journey that goals are good for us, but when there are rough spots along the way, we can still keep focused and move that goal date to keep the situation realistic.

Fly - Thanks for the compliments on dh and I. I am really blessed with a great man for a husband. We have a great time together.

Bob - I am soooo glad to hear you and Skeeter baby are safe.

Deb - I like how you vented to us about your feelings on your WIW. I think it does us all good to share our personale feelings with each other like that.

Mary - Thank you for your friendship and time you share with me with our chats. I also appreciate the emails you send me too. Hope you are hanging in there with that tough work schedule.

Well, I could post lots and lots more, but I just don't have the patience right now. I will work at staying more in touch. Maybe later or tomorrow I will share more.

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!

Feel good about myself better than I have in a long time. Glad to hear everyones doing good. Hubby comes home in the morning:s: . I'm really looking forward to seeing him in the morning;) . Seems like hes been gone more than 3 weeks. I will post a picture of myself as soon as the hubby gets home and shows me how.:) Haven't taken any since I started losing weight. But I'm 5 lbs smaller than when we got married almost 7 yrs ago. My husband wants to go buy me some new cloths when he gets home but I told him to wait until I hit the 50 lb weight lose mark. I will probably have to sew up the seams of the clothes I still have until then:D . Well better go now everyone have a great day.

Well, somehow I managed to legally sabotage myself on Tuesday for wiw and the scale reflected it 175/157/130. Same as last week, despite 6 great days of eating, tons of weight lifted, and miles and miles of jogging/running/walking. What's going wrong here?? How can 5 almond stuffed olives and a handful of triscuits undo a whole week? I don't want to go back to the starvation method cause I know I sure can't live like that anymore!
The worst part is, I had to buy smaller bras, but the weight stayed the same. That must mean my butt is bigger!

Deb-Thanks for the email about the Yarzheit candle- I will definitely do it. I'm not observant at all either, I usually describe myself as a "gastronomic" Jew. Also, at the risk of being repetitive, try some weight training. A pair of 5 and 3 lb free weights are all you need to start. Rent a video on bodyshaping (NOT BUILDING) and you'll see and feel a difference in very little time. It gets really addicting when you can look down and see real defined muscles in your arms, thighs, and someday (I hope to live this long) abs. YOU DON'T NEED TO LIFT HEAVY!

Thunder-YOU'RE DOING GREAT!! Wish I could catch some of that!

Amser- congrats on your low, and forget about the party pound! You need to post a new picture, the only one I've seen is the one Deb posted a few days ago.

Fly- I "solved" the sock problem by buying everybody socks that were exactly the same. That way if/when one dissapears who cares? There are still 9 more white socks with a grey toe!. This technique probably works best with 5-13 year old boys, but also on my workout/running socks and my daughter's hundred pairs of workout socks. Also, I was startled by your saying you at one point wished you were Jewish. I grew up in an area with very few other Jews and spent half my life afraid to tell people!

Kim- I hope the surgery went well. A friend of mine had what sounds like the same last spring. I know the first few days were really hard, but she was playing tennis and beating me again in a week and a half. My thoughts have been with you.

Viv- I loved the dress. I had the opposite reaction because I'm scared that if I wear loose dresses, someone might think "boy that lady is really old to be pregnant!" Wear what feels good, you look great. I'm glad you've found so many ways to contribute. I got turned down for giving blood because of meds I take, and I was in England this year. Because of job situations we can't contribute financially, so I am really at a loss as to what to do.

BOB- Glad you are drying out. Sounds like you had an exciting unplanned holiday. If you can believe it, I've got the sprinkler going here to salvage what little of my front lawn is still green.

Shannon- Welcome. You're right, the SB Board has gotten really nasty! I just glance at it every once in a while, but hardly ever post.

Enough for now- gota head out to soccer practice. Maybe I'll jog around the track while the team scrimmages.

Meliris--That’s good advice you gave Debbie. Debbie, you listenin’ , girl?
Re being Jewish--It’s because the Jews are really and forever God’s chosen people. The ORIGINAL chosen ones, with the potential of a very special relationship with the Lord. The Christian Bible says that Christian gentiles aare “grafted in to the vine” but you guys are the original branch. Any Christian who would be prejudiced against any Jewish person is sinning against God and against His chosen ones, and they definitely don’t know anything about the Bible. The interesting thing for the Jews is to understand what they were chosen for. And that is succinctly explained in Genesis 12:1-3.

And don’t worry about the weight this week, Mel. Maybe you’re at a little plateau. Just give the scale a rest and check in with it in a couple of weeks. Don’t let that little number sabotage you.

Well, I ate a chicken breast for breakfast, and clam sauce on one oz. spaghetti for lunch, trying to get the protein grams up today. I had other things, also, but so far am doing better. I will be having spaghetti sauce with meat over zucchini “spaghetti” for dinner tonight, along with a salad.

Kim--Hope you are feeling better by now and that the surgery was a success for you.

I have French class tonight. It seems like months since I’ve been in class, but it’s just been 2 weeks. Gotta go and grab my dinner before I leave. Take care, all.

Hi Everyone...I have missed you.

Well I have "let myself" go just a little too much so I am back on the straight and narrow. I was doing fine maintaining until the stress the past couple of weeks got to me and I quit walking and started eating like I had before. My lowest weight was 132 and I am at 147 today. So I have hit the trails, cut back on the sugar, reduced my calorie intake to below 1700 and thought I better get back to you guys so you can keep me straigh.

As some of you know I work for the Red Cross and this past Dec. there was a huge tornado in Alabama. Since that time my workload and responsibility has really increased. During the summer I was on the road all of the time and having to eat at meals that were chosen for me. The events of the past week have really affected me. I never had time to be shocked, sad or grieve but immediately had to put the response for our state into action. So I really lost it and even had lots of donuts, chips and dip etc. Well I have started to physically feel bad again and that can't happen. So here I am. No matter how bad it gets I will take time to say hello to ya'll and get my priorities back in order...

I may not have a lot of time to personally respond but I will try. I did scan most of the post and glad to see my friends are still here.

Hey y'all. Spirits are lifting and I am feeling slightly more optimistic. DH says that he will not volunteer to return to the army, they will have to call him up. With that announcement, the constant diarrhea ceased. As far as the nation is concerned, I am still concerned.

I have peeked at page 1, which is all I had time for tonight. It may be Friday before I have time to read and respond to all. WIW - I think I am down a pound from last week, back to 152. Went to the doc yesterday and we discussed my meds. Said that he had never heard of anyone gaining on this medication. I had gained 8 pounds since my visit 7 weeks ago. Hmmm. Y'all tell me! He did lower the dosage and I hope that will help. I have been trying to decrease my fat intake and up my fruits and veggies. I'll keep you posted. Doc did say that he had had other patients say that they had more vivid dreams; something that I've experienced.

QUILTER - My thoughts and prayers are with you. Hope you never miss that ol' thyroid!

NANCE - Keeping positive thoughts for you and Dan. LOVED the pictures of you and your beautiful family.

DEB - Loved the pics that you posted. More on that later.

BOB - So glad that you are with power again. Hope it stays on. I was watching BB2 last night and wondered if you were watching it too.

To all of you that I did not say hello too, please forgive me and understand that DH is calling me to come spend some time with him, so I must say adios for now.

Please continue to pray for peace.

Hi Girls!!!

I survived! Got home this morning about 10:30. Doing pretty good. But my neck is a bit stiff. Looks kind of gross, because they have a clear handiwrap style dressing on it. Yuck! Anyways, thanks for all the kind thoughts. I'll write more later. Sitting at the computer doesn't feel all that great.

Thanks for the prayers. Everything went smoothly and everything tested was benign. You all are wonderful in support, that's for sure.

Evening All!

Taken me all night to get on the computer-Michael has a lot of homework, which of course, comes first-can't say that I don't have withdrawls during these long periods of time that he is on though.

Had a nice day out with Eli, went to Ole Ole for lunch then to the indoor flea mkt., wanted more of these really thick socks they have and luckily found them. Bought some fruits and veggies there as well. Hit Carbolite on the way home, yummy coffee and vanilla! A medium at that!:^:

I told Eli what I had posted on the board, about the scale, etc. etc. He said "you can't lose skin and bones" what he says I now look like-a big exaggeration, to say the least! I think he'd rather have me a little heavier, but too bad, so sad!!!

I heard from Paul and QUILTER is just fine, which is good news. Here's his e-mail:

Kim had her surgery yesterday afternoon. She stayed overnight at the hospital for precautionary reasons. She came home this morning and is taking it easy. Everything that DID get removed has been tested and is benign, so there is no need to worry. The doctor did leave part of her thyroid in so the body can continue to produce the iodine needed for operation, which means she will NOT need medication to suppliment the
function of the thyroid.

I am sure she will be back on email very soon.

Paul

GATOR, if you can do what I wish I could do and keep the scale hidden for a month, I give you a lot of credit-not ready to do it yet, but I'm getting there! I do wish weight training would take care of these trouble areas, but unfortunately, it won't, my skin has lost it's elasticity and surgery is the only help for me.

VIV, I have some old WW stuff too, another reason to start back on Ebay I guess! Read my post to GATOR above yours, will explain about the WT issue. That's nice what your DH has decided to do. I do agree with you about too many organizations now collecting funds, not sure who's legit and who's not sometimes-too many of them sprouting up since this tragedy happened.

FLY, you go girl, and I mean that literally, you were doing it all today it seems-kudos to you! Ummm, I've had a basket of socks for years too-thank goodness I now know I am not alone in doing this. I don't want to look anything like a media image, but it sure would be nice not to see a puddle of skin next to me when I lie down in bed!!!! No weight training will ever help that!!!

AMSER, of course, you know we've missed you on the board, glad to see you back and posting again!:) Again, I congratulate you on your new low, you'll get back there again, just as I plan to get back to my low-it will happen for us both, but it's harder as we go down on the scale. Don't worry about whinning, as you read, I did my share this morning!;) That's what we're here for!!!!

THUNDER, congrats on your loss this week! Spiral perm, I bet your DH isn't going to recognize you upon his return!!!! He sounds like a dear, wanting to buy you some new clothes! I agree, wait til you hit a big milestone, I tried to not buy anything as I was losing, did have to buy a couple things, they got big real fast!!!

MEL, one day of eating like that won't make a difference on the scale, esp. overnight. It can be for many reasons-I saw the same exact thing this week as you did, stayed the same despite being OP 100%-it happens. Long ago, in the past, before SB, I would get so discouraged by this happening, I'd give up-not til SB did I learn that there are many reasons besides going off plan that will make you gain for no apparent reason-esp. hormones! I'm mid cycle and I definitely see the scale go up during this time-I just wait patiently, and it goes back down:)

BEACH, what a joy to see you on the board!!! I know the stress of what's going on must of gotten to you and I knew you were having a hard time of it before all this happened last week, but I'm glad you are back, back with us, back OP and more than likely, feeling better. I know work is hard for you right now, but just a quick hello once in a while and feeling somewhat connected back to the board, should help you get rid of those pounds you temporarily found.

FROG, glad to hear you're doing better. Did you tell the Dr. you found info on the web about weight gain and the meds?? Let's hope this dosage decrease helps you lose what you gained, but in the meantime, is still effective for you. Vivid dreams, huh-that could be interesting;)

QUILTER, I left the above, started this post longggg ago, but wasn't able to get it posted until now-just wanted everyone to hear what a doll Paul was and how he let us all know you were doing well! {{{HUGS}}}

SHANNON, WELCOME TO THE BOARD!:D We're glad you've decided to join us. Please don't hesitate to ask us any questions, we're all happy and eager to help out in any way!!

NEWBIES Just a reminder, if you'd like to have your message for the board appear on this board, make sure you hit NEW REPLY and not new thread:) For those of you who are lurking and reading our boards, jump on in, the water is fine!!!!!!!!

Well, I guess that's it for me for tonight. Again, a reminder that TOMORROW IS RECIPE DAY!!! I'll get a few recipes on here sometime tomorrow.

See you all in the morning!

WOW! I got on the board this morning and there had been no new posts lince I logged off last night--but tonight--everyone has been here! Well, everyone except BOB--and I say if Kim can drag herself off her sick bed to pos, you've got no excuse gal! :D

WIW---Dadgummit--exactly the same! AARRGGHH! I'm with Gator--I want to get rid of the stupid thing. I like my tape measure so much better--it's down another 1/4 inch in the hips! If I were really really strong I wouldn't weigh again until next Wed. Guess what. I'm not that strong. I'll be screaming at it in the morning--despite have read Deb's wonderful post. According the fitday in the last three days I've burned some 3700 more calories than I've eaten---that should show up as a pound lost tomorrow. I guess this is why the SB authors recommend NOT counting calories. I think the calorie theory has a SERIOUS flaw! Everything I've eaten over the last week has been OP and in appropriate proportions.

Kim--so glad to hear that you are safely through the surgery and that everything was benign! Take it easy as you recover and remember we are still holding you in our thought and prayers!

Frog--good news about DH. Also good news about the meds. I sure hope reducing them helps with the weight loss. When it comes down to it you've just gotta have faith that you are doing everything right and know it will eventually pay off!

Beach--Welcome back! I guess you have been busy! I'm going to try to give blood in the next week or so. I thought I'd wait until the crush subsided because it will still be needed. My first job out of college was with the American Red Cross--I was director of Blood services for our chapter. They just called me vampira!:s:

Congrats to the losers this week! I'm looking to you for inspiration!

Good Thursday Morning Everyone:wave:

Just got in from my walk/jog-felt like going a bit more than I did yesterday-got in my 4.5 miles with 17 jogs, no pushing me today, did it in 54 minutes.

If I was mad yesterday, I must be fuming today, or at least you would think! The scale is up 2lbs from yesterday!  That's 4lbs from my low-and here I thought I had something to b*tch about yesterday! But, thinking in prespective here, this is day 14 of my cycle and again, I know I am doing everything just the way I have been, and I am confident the scale will show a loss in the next few days-if not, you KNOW I will be on the warpath!!!!!

SUZANNE & JENNIFER have posted an announcement. If you haven't seen it, I've copied it below. PLEASE, if you want an update on what's happening, please make sure I have your e-mail address. If you are listed on our BIO BOARD, then I have it-but if you are a newbie and haven't posted your BIO on the BIO BOARD yet, please do, that or e-mail me directly and give it to me. Here you go:

Moving servers, will have brief outage (09-19-2001 until 10-20-2001)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We're preparing to move to a new hosting company. The move is necessary as the new host is less expensive, but we will actually receive more ram and processor speed, so this will benefit everyone

The server should be ready by Friday, and then we will begin installing our software and transferring our files. Once this is ready, we will have to close the forum and transfer the domain to the new server. Domain transfer can take from 1 to 3 days due to dns propagation around the globe. Some of you may be able to access the new server before others, so don't panic if your friends say they can see it but you can't.

We don't know the exact date of the closure yet, and due to the speed at which we will have to move, we may not be able to give warning other than this notice. We hope to begin the transfer this weekend, especially since the forum is not as active on weekends.

If you visit the forum or the main site and receive a 'website not found' error, please don't be concerned, it will only mean that things are moving along and you'll be able to reach us within a couple of days after that.

Thank you all for your support, understanding, and patience

Suzanne and Jennifer

********

Let's just hope and pray we have ALL of our boards from the past on the new site-I haven't had any time to archive anything and I'd hate to lose all this info. I know our archived boards are safe, at least they're suppose to be!

QUILTER, how are you feeling this morning???? {{{HUGS}}} for a speedy recovery!!

FILLISE, I tend to disagree about the calorie issue, from what I've read, the calories definitely count. But I think it's how ones metabolism deals with those calories that makes how each of us individually burns them. If someone were to follow the suggested SB MENU in the book, and they were, say, use to eating 3000 calories a day, they'd lose (at least fora while), without counting, because it's such a reduction of what they were eating previously. Anyhow, that's one of the big controversies I see over on the ST board that many people seem to "fight" over-here, at least we discuss it civily! I always say, whatever works!!!! Hey, I propose we send all our single socks to a hand puppet maker! Actually, when I come to think about it, couldn't some one use good clean one-of-a-kind socks???? I hate throwing anything away!!!

Well gals, I've got to get ready to take Lauren to school in a few. I'll be back on later, after CROSSING OVER is done.

Have a good day!

Hallo everyone

My name is Hensa van Niekerk, I am 32 year old, living in the sunny South Africa, married to a wonderful man for 11 years (my school sweetheart). Unfortunately we don’t have any children (I had a hysterectomy a few years ago because of PCOS) I have a problem with my weight since I can remember.

Since the 16th of August I have been on the Atkins diet. I had good results up to now.

Starting weight 216 came down to 205 it this 5 weeks.

BUT I went to my gynecologist on Tuesday for a checkup. (I have PCOS) I told him about the diet I am on and that at last I am seeing results. He is worried about my cholesterol since I fall I the high-risk area. He want me to have some blood test done and suggested that I follow a diet for diabetics. I miss the fibers that used to keep me regular……. But regardless of that little problem I cannot complain about the Atkins diet, I love the fact that I don’t have any cravings for sweet stuff, and I am not hungry all the time. The diet is easy to follow…..some times a bit difficult not allowing any bread, and limited amounts of fruits.

This is the first time that I hear of Sugar Busters

You see I am kind of an impulsive dieter, so many times I have started with a certain diet then, when I hear a success story I run of buy the book or make a copy and try that one…...

I am currently posting on the Low Carb thread. Could you please tell me more about Sugar busters, what is the difference between the two diets….

The results that you girls have is great!!

Greating

Hi Hensa, and WELCOME TO OUR SB BOARD I am glad you are looking into an alternative to the Atkins diet, and I'll leave it at that as I don't want to bash a diet that so many people believe it, but my personal opinion, well, I think I made my point, subtely.

With SB, or any low glycemic diet is that NO FOOD GROUPS are off limits, which is nice-we can eat fruit, though there are a few that are high on the GI that we aren't allowed to eat, there are a few veggies (mostly root vegetables), that are off limits, no white or refined flours, but whole grain flours are acceptable, etc. I would say, to get a good idea what this WOE (we hate calling it a diet) is to check the link below, which was done by someone who is following SB and she gives a good overview on it:

http://www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/sugarbusters

I want to say, you are the FIRST person I have ever come across who has been so honest about admitting being a "impulsive dieter". I think we've all been guilty of that at least once in our lives. This WOE is a way you can follow for LIFE-I don't think you can say the same about many other diets out there these days. Another thing I like about SB, no special foods you have to buy to follow this plan!!!!

Please, don't hesitate to ask questiosn, we'll be happy to answer them as best we can.

GOOD LUCK!

Hallo Debbie

Thanks for the quick responds.

It is also not my intention to put a diet down, (as I said I had very good result with the current WOE, but what work for the one person doesn’t mean it will work for the next. I need something that I can follow for the rest of my life and don’t feel deprived every single day. And I believe in keeping a balance between the food groups.

I looked into the website you advised.

Is there a program that you follow on SB, like an induction for 2 weeks, or do you just eating the foods that are allowed?

How quick do you see results?

Will I gain weight if I ad whole grains, and fruit to my eating plan?

Thanks.

DEBBIE, VIV, MELIRIS – L' SHANAH TOVAH

NANCEMEISTER – You are absolutely adorable!! I love your hair! Beautiful family!! So glad Dan the Man doesn’t have to leave. How’s the job going? Are you looking for another job? Ya know there TONS of nursing jobs here in Orlando!! They all appear to pay pretty darn well also….and we alternate between desert situations and tropical forrest siutations. AND one of my hottest job leads is at a hospital right now…..If I get the job I could certainly start the NANCEMEISTER CAMPAIGN to get you hired. :D

BOB – I was relieved to hear that you are okay. Glad you were only minorly inconvenienced. I also immediately thought of Skeeter when you said your baby was preggers. Since it’s NOT Skeeter will he be helping you knit some booties?

FILLISE – Congrats on the tape measure going down. The scale will surely follow. That working out is paying off!! I hate counting calories, sugar grams, etc. too! I did use Fitday religiously for a while, but then things got weird at work so I quit going on even at lunch. When I get home the last thing I want to do (or have time to do) is log my food. Thankfully I did it long enough to learn a lot about my ratios and total intake values. It really does help, doesn’t it?

TW (That’s Thunderwoman shorthand) My name is Sonya also! Don’t know if I welcomed you to the board, but I’ve been reading your posts. ;) WELCOME!! I’m originally from Mississippi with lots of relatives in Winnfield, LA and Baton Rouge. We have killer thunderstorms in MS also. Here in FL we have lots of lightning, but not always the thunder that goes with it. I used to love sitting on the porch with my daddy watching the storms blow through. The rain is very comforting to me.

VIV – Your pictures are great! You look like as much fun as you sound on this board. Glad your family is safe. We’ve heard lots of stories of people in our ministry and their families surviving the tragedy because they were late for a meeting, had sales calls in the morning, etc. One man had an office on the 84th floor of the 2nd tower and his boss had sent him out to buy a tv so they could watch the coverage on the first tower in their office. While he was out getting the tv the 2nd tower was hit. Just amazing. I wonder if the towers weren’t abnormally more empty than usual on Tuesday. Hearing so many wonderful stories of people esacping the tragedy it certainly seems like it. Praise God! Is Hubby home now? Would we see him on TV or is it local news only?

MARIE Way to go getting out there still feeling yucky….when I don’t feel good I don’t do ANYTHING!! (Vince will agree! :s: ) I sure hope you are feeling better soon! I hope WIW was better for you than me – I’ll have to catch up with you!!

MELIRIS Those wonderful compliments from people are enough to keep someone on plan, aren’t they? I LIVE for people to notice sometimes, but my losses have been every so slow and, therefore, very difficult for even me to see. Maybe when I break 190 it’ll be more noticeable. My resume is posted on monster.com and brainbuzz.com. I also check some of the local job boards daily and buy the Sunday paper. I’ve contacted a few friends to see what they know of the market. I actually got a call from a head hunter who’s working on getting me an interview with a company around the corner. They are re-organizing their upper level structure as their head guy just moved to the HQ further away. Filling his position is a little more important than the one I’m applying for at the moment. I hope things look better for you up there! Gotta be rough having both of you looking. Has your brother been called out? They just showed a bunch of Marines being shipped out this morning.

KIM I hope you’re relaxing and enjoying the healing process!! Looking feaverishly for news from Paul to Deb. (Okay, got it! Glad you’re doing well!!!)

GATORGAL You are TOO NICE!! Thank you! Maybe you could add boiled eggs to your salad for the extra protein? You could take the yolks out and just eat the whites. We buy protein powder (KITT can recommend some of the best and probably get you a good deal on some if you’re interested). I mix a scoop of the protein powder with an 8oz. container of nonfat plain yogurt for a mid-morning snack. It’s very low fat and good source of protein that keeps me filled to lunch time.

RHOO Glad to hear from you! It’s nice to have that private time, isn’t it? I don’t want to share it with ANYONE when I finally get it – being a mom it’s probably way more rare than it is for me. I understand having to get away from the tv. We rented 2 movies recently and we hardly ever rent movies. We watch them in 30 minute increments so it takes so long to watch them.

FLY So glad to hear from you and that things are going well!! Isn’t it nice to have people notice and not thinking well it’s my “DIET”, but rather “how I’ve changed my eating habits…..permanently.” :) Congratulations!! If they start the draft again Vince may try to get a fake id that says he’s young enough to be drafted  If he had connections he’d probably already be over there doing covert operations to take out those cowards. (Part of me wishes we did have connections and part of me is so glad we don’t!) I am looking forward to the INFINITE JUSTICE being meted out!

CATLOVER – Way to kick butt on the golf course! I know that must be an elated feeling that lasts for days.

DEBBIE – My heart goes out to you! You have come A LOOOONNNNNGGGG WAY!!! You’ve been “fixing” areas of your life – your woe, your emotional eating, your physical fitness and more than we probably know about here. Remember how the smallest change can make a BIG DIFFERENCE in how we feel about ourselves? I know you feel like there is so much to change/improve/tuck that it isn’t worth looking into, but I disagree! Really you won’t know unless you talk to a PROFESSIONAL who knows what’s available and what a realistic goal is. Plastic surgery and the like are much more affordable than they were say, 10 years ago. I had suction lipectomy in my thighs and hips when I was in college. I weighed 186 lbs. – had a size 6 waist and size 18 hips. It looked like some cruel person had fused 2 totally different bodies together. EVERYTHING I owned was taken up 8-10 inches in the waist. It was very expensive and inconvenient to buy clothes. I would have guys come up and flirt and talk with me when I was sitting down or standing behind something, but when I moved out the change in their facial expressions was obvious – not just a paranoid observance. I worked out 6 days a week – HARD and got down to 155 lbs. to be able to have the surgery. I didn’t lose but 5 lbs. in the surgery (back then they couldn’t take out as much as they can now, but I became proportionate! I could buy size 8 and size 10 clothes and not have to have them adjusted too much. It made a HUGE difference in my self-esteem. It was not an alternative to losing weight, it was an enhancement after losing the weight. I’d do it tomorrow if I thought it would help my self-esteem. I say make an appointment with an approved Dr. – check their credentials very thoroughly – and tell him/her what your concerns are – the areas you want to improve – and see what they say and recommend. Worse case scenario? You decide that you don’t want to do it. Maybe just taking care of one of the things you mentioned would be enough to make you happier – maybe he’ll tell you something you can do that none of us knows about to get the results without surgery. I’m all for it!!

AMSERAPHIM – So glad to hear from you!! Sorry to hear about your gm. Are there others in her apt. complex her age or also lonely that they could get together? We had some who played cards and just stood on the sidwalk talking to each other in our old complex. They also had continental breakfasts once a month in the office and all the retired and elderly people would come there to hang out and see each other. Also, there may be non-profit organizations who specialize in visiting the homebound people. CONGRATS on reaching 120!! You’ll reach your goal, I Just know it!! Thought about you yesterday as I was planting blue plumbon (some bush with blue flowers – I spelled it wrong, I know.) Vince said I planted them too close to the house so I get to move them out today! Planted some marigolds and basil and parsley around the mailbox. The mailman got a kick out of the herbs being used as decorator plants. Really that’s the best place for them to get the sun they need and the marigolds are supposed to keep the bugs away from them. We’ll see – our yard is mostly sand and I don’t know if I mixed enough potting soil with the sand.

ANNA Thanks for checking in with us! You’ll get back down to your 132 – I have no doubt about that! You and DEBBIE are 2 of the most determined women I know! Look at how far you’ve come – you won’t ever go back there.

HENSA – WELCOME!!! You’ve picked a good one coming on here! When my endocrinologist diagnosed me with PCOS she immediately put me on the SB diet. I feel this is the most realistic diet I’ve seen so far and it’s completely “doable” and, more important to me, doable for my husband also – I don’t have to fix “special” meals for myself – everything we can eat is good and good for all of us and tastes good! You’ll be glad you’re here!

Well, I’ve been on too long and must run. WIW wasn’t too good for me – up 1.5 to 198.5 lbs. yesterday. I haven’t been drinking my water like normal and my eating schedule is way off whack since being out of work. I’ve been indulging in too much SF ice cream too. I know what I need to do – just need to do it! I don’t want MARIE to get too far ahead (below) me and not be able to cross that 190 line with her!

 have a great day everyone!!!

I'm late for work but wanted to get in a quit general post. The latest is Dan the Man hasn't been called in....still on a 2 hour notice to get to the base at even given time, but so far he's been in bed with me everynight. I have a "test" to take for a new position I'm applying for over at the local school district for an Adminstrative Assistant position. I take the test at 2:00pm tomorrow and if all goes well, maybe I'll get an interview and then can really razzle dazzle them! Having been doing great on plan...stomach and dokie problems...I think from nerves, hopefully that will all settle down SOON!

Thank you all for the nice complements on the fam mug shot. Thank goodness you all got to see a DECENT picture of me before Debbie posts the one she took here while in Ca.

Gotta scoot. Touchbase soon!!!! XOXOXO to all!!!

Scale still stuck! It's like the needle is glued to the 237 mark. I doule checked it against the balance scale at the gym yesterday--which says the same. Sigh, so I know the scale isn't broken.

The more I think about it the more I think Gator has the right idea--Deb, Frog, we know that we are doing what we are supposed to--why not try to weigh only once a week and see if it helps to put our attention on letting being OP be it's own reward?

Hensa--Welcome! SB has changed my life! After years of yo yo dieting and then years and years of having given up completely, SB is a WOE (way of eating) that I can live with forever. I've been following this WOE for 14 months now and I've lost 63 lbs. As you can see frommy earlier post--I'm in something of a stall now, but I'm working out regularly and my tape measure is showing progress--even if the scale isn't! Moreover this is a healthy way of eating. There is no food group that you cannot eat--even sugar because you are eating it as it naturally occurs in foods. Your body will get enough of the nutrients it needs. If you haven't done so, I strongly urge you to buy the book (Sugarbusters: Cut Sugar to Trim Fat). Or even the new Sugarbusters! for Kids--because it explains the essentials of this WOE so well.

Sol--Nice to hear from you--I'm starting to hate WIW!

Oh well--lot's of work to do today. I'll try to log back on tonight!

Hi all

I'm sore and happy for it. Plan another 2 mile run today. It's rainy here and now I have to plant some strawberry plants I got from a farmer for .20 each. He says they'll have some next May. I hope so.

Having challenges with all three sons this week and on the bus so I'm looking forward to victory by this time next week!!! Got my battleplans ready. ;)

Lots and lots of people deployed from here this week. Some are my friends. My prayers are with all the deployed and called up.

amser-welcome back girl. I'm praying that gm will get some company soon. Wowie, 120!!!! I want to join you. ON MY WAY!

Thunder-you go with that hairdo! Hope we see some pics soon. Hubby is a keeper if he wants you in new clothes. Usually when my dh says new clothes they are tight and black leather. Hope yours has a better plan.

Mel-I bet your body is spazzing from the extra calories burned. Hopefully it will fall in line soon when it recovers. Isn't this world silly? We are afraid sometime to be who we are. Loved your sock solution!

Gator-You were very serious about protein with that chicken for breakfast. I would recommend wheat germ which is less expensive than protein powder. Also get good protein from no fat plain yogurt too. I hear yogurt makes a good tenderizer for chicken too. Just in case you love it for breakfast. ;)

Beach-Great you have taken aim again. It was totally understandable losing it.

Miss Frog-Missed you. Glad you are back. Good luck with those meds and your running. Say hi to Belinda for me.

Quilter-Glad you are ok. Hope for a quick recovery and am giving thanksgivings for it being benign.

Deb-Isn't Michael great using computer for homework. Ben's on the computer constantly but it's not for homework. I got a funny mental image when you said skin puddles. But I think I may face the same challenge when I get there. I think I might lean towards looking into surgery to remove excess skin. About the socks. Ben wears mismatched socks. Maybe some teens in your area do too. Maybe they'd like that basket.

Fillese-1/4" off hips! Yeah!!!

Hensa-Welcome!! So happy to hear of your success on Atkins. I'm for anything that works except starvation, anorexia, and bulimia. I personally didn't like it because I couldn't have fruit and got sick of all the meat. I read in Prevention magazine this month that high protein diets may lead to kidney stones. Just a thought. So you're entering into spring right? Just in time for lots of good fruits I hope.

Sol-Good luck on job lead. Vince really sounds like a great guy and a future hero. God has given you such a challenge with your body. Your beautiful spirit really shines. I'm looking forward to seeing you at 190!

Well, bye for now. Rains let up so going out to plant quick.

Just getting ready to get out of the house and do a few errands before I have to go p/u Michael at school.

HENSA, in the SB BOOK there's a suggested menu, but many say it's for maintence and it's one I never followed. I learned to read labels very carefully, as well as educate myself about the foods that were low/hi on the glycemic index. If you are able to find a copy of the SB BOOK in your library, get it out, read it and then decide if this is for you. Also, another book I truly suggest is Michael Montignac's book called EAT YOURSELF THIN, he's the one who first wrote a book about this WOE, SB sorta copied his info. There are also good sites on the web-I have a few GI lists links on the informational boards here on our SB THREAD. As there isn't one diet that works for us all, unfortunately, the same goes for seeing results. I can tell you that when you come off a L/C diet like Atkins where you haven't had carbs, fruits, etc. onto SB you may very well see a small gain, but this will definitely be something temporary-I do believe other gals on the board may be able to answer this question a bit better than I-I've done a hundred diets in the past, but Atkins was one I would never try as I knew it was something I couldn't stick with. Keep asking those questions-we don't mind helping to answer them at all!!!

SOL, thanks for the New Years wishes!!:D You make me feel so good, to see what you see that I have accomplished is more than I see that I've accomplished-easier to see when it's staring you in the face, I guess. Thanks for your insight on plastic surgery-I have had my stomach tucked a few years back, but didn't come out the way I think it should. I know in time, I will be seeking out some advice and consultation as I can't see myself ever being happy the way things are hanging now-I guess whatever bday money I may possibly get will have to go in one of those ceramic jars (I've yet to get) that's stamped with PLASTIC SURGERY CASH! I'll just have to find a way to get some $$$ and 'DO IT' as Nike says!!!:D Don't worry about the temporary gain-I'm right there with you!

NANCE, GOOD LUCK ON THE TEST TOMORROW! I know you'll do your best, be confident going in there, you KNOW you can do what ever they give you!!! Dazzle them with that wonderful smile of yours-it's a clincher!! Let us know how it goes when it's over. Glad Dan is still in the sack with you and hopefully, he'll stay there!!!

FILLISE, for me, the scale is important, esp. since I have the WEIGHT COMMANDER PROGRAM. It lets me see what's happened in the past. Without this information I'd surely of given in tons of times due to being upset about a gain, as I had done so many diets in the past. Now, with this information I go back and see where I was, what I was feeling etc. For me, it helps. Not that I like my scale, okay, when it goes down, I like it, or love it-but wish I wasn't attached to it as I am. I vowed my New Years resolution will be to only weigh in on WIW-and I'm going to do my best to gear up for that resolution and make it stick. Don't worry about what your scale says to you today-it's being nicer than mine is to me!

Gotta run, will be back later on today!

I am new here, posted my bio but I am having a hard time adjusting to how this board works. Anyway, I went grocery shopping and found some great sugar free salad dressings and spaghetti sauce. I am now down 13.5 lbs and I could just jump for joy. Nothing has ever worked for me and had the added benefit of making me feel great. Can't wait to meet you all.

Hi all:wave:

Well its been a great day my hubby came home this morning and boy did his jaw almost hit the floor. I was covered up to my neck with my lap cover and when I got up you should have saw his face:eek: . He said wheres the rest of you. All in all I've had a great day;) . Looking forward to the next 10 lbs. as long as I don't lose them to fast. I think I pulled a small muscle in my shoulder last nite doing my weight work out. It has had a throbing pain in it most of the day. I guess I will have to skip the weights for a couple of days. Well better get off I will have to cook supper in a bit. Stir fried chicken with red, orange and yellow pepper strips and onion. I had to throw out my lettece for the first time today. It turned red and brown before I could eat it all, I guess I bought to much at one time:mad: . Everyone have a great day.

Well it's finally raining in Pa.!:) :( I got in my weight workout, but no run or walk. Good thing I got in a few extra miles last night while waiting for soccer practice. I found a lovely FLAT neighborhood and was amazed at my stamina without those ^#&$%$%! hills. Cleo, the marathon poodle, has been antsy all day. She misses the miles more than I do. Luckily today was tennis, so I got in 2 hours of doubles after work. Not the same as a run, but exercise.

Greetings Hensa and Liz . This is a great board. For questions, for support, and a new batch of friends. Welcome.

Kim- So glad all is well. I bet you're happy to have it behind you. I know when I've had surgery the anticipation is usually worse than what actually happens.

Gator- Thanks for the pep talk. I really wish I could throw out the scale for 6 days a week, but it seems like I can only either weigh myself everyday or never. And never helped get me into this mess. I didn't weigh myself for about a year because I knew I was gaining weight and just couldn't face the actual #'s. I should probably chart my weight, then I would see that the trend really is downward and not get so freaked out by daily variations or lack thereof.

Nancy- Glad Dan is still there. Good luck on the test!

Thank for the New Year's wishes, let it be peaceful and fullfilling for all of you!

I sure hope the board isn't down for long this week-end. I'll be in serious withdrawal. This keeps me honest and I will miss everyone.

The kitchen beckons- I'm so sick of cooking!

Hi again!
Just checking in and listening to Bush address.

Deb-A Claudel posted a new thread and I replied encouraging her to come here. I hope she does. I'm not sure I told her how to correctly so could you help too?

Lizery-Whoo Hooooo 13.5. Isn't losing sooooo great after all those frustrating times before? Welcome, welcome, welcome. People from all walks of life (a marathoner, several health care professionals, grandmothers, supermoms, traveling football lovers, & one in the Eden of the U.S. to name a few and one kick butt leader to show us the way! )

Thunder-So happy for you! Try Flexall for your sore shoulder. It helps with the pain and helps you to move it. I love it. I'm coming to your house for dinner. It sounded yummy. I had chicken too but not like that!

Mel-Loved your marathon poodle. Hope the weather is better tomorrow.

Bob-Glad those games are back on. Chin up. We musn't let those evil people win!

Evening All!

Haven't been able to get on the computer, Michael has a ton of homework-got a few minutes before he needs it back to get in a post-besides, BB will be on at 10pm and I'm gonna be glued-hope WILL wins! Not that I like either one of them, but between the two, that's who I choose.

FLY, trust me, Michael uses his computer to talk to friends too-you'd think he could pick up the phone instead of hogging the computer-doesn't care if his Mother goes through withdrawls! I bet if I had just excess skin removed, I'd go down another 3lbs, with fat, probably about 10lbs! Thanks for the heads up about the other post, will go there in a few.

LIZERY WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!! We're glad you joined us:) Thanks for posting your BIO on the BIO BOARD as well as your picture, it was nice to learn more about you-but you failed to remember to tell everyone YOU'RE ANOTHER FLORIDIAN!!!!! ;) Yes, we've got another one gals-we definitely rule the board now with 6 from the Sunshine State (just had to rub that in there!). You are doing very well on SB and as happy as you are about it, we are too! It's a great accomplishment! Thanks for posting the info on the FIB about the sauce and the dressings. Questions about the board-just ask, we're always happy to help!! Again, WELCOME!

THUNDER, glad to hear DH is home, safe, sound and surprised at your transformation! Sorry to hear you pulled something, give it a day and I'm sure you'll feel better, at least I hope so.

MEL, just reading about your activities today made me tired! You sure can go girl!

BOB, that was you snoring-I thought it was thunder! I'll get those pictures done sometime next week-you know the procrastinator I am-at least I admit it!!! You missed some darn good chicken the other night, Eli made it with the lemon and garlic like before, but this time, he added onions-was the best!!!!

KIM, hope you are feeling better today. I'm sure with Paul waiting on you hand and foot, you'll have a speedy recovery!

I'll get those recipes posted tomorrow, my time limit is almost us:rolleyes:

See you all in the morning after my walk!!

Hi all.

I am addcited to frozen yogurt type ice cream. I live in NYC and its called tasti-d-lite. It comes in tons of flavors, etc. The problem is that right now, i can't control it once i start eating it.

I usually am quite disciplined. In the past 18 months, I've lost 25 pounds, gave up alcohol, and have made much needed changes to my eating habits (gave up my 7 a day diet coke habit). Anyway, I really struggling with this one. It really affects my mood and productivity, as well as my weight. Any suggestions or motivation? Thanks for reading this.

I just finished watching the President's speech--you go W!

I made a very big decision tonight.

The first weekend in October I'm going to my 25th HS reunion. Gulp.

I've avoided reunions like the plague. I went to my 10th and haven't been to one since. By 1986 (10 years) I was at least as big as I am now--maybe a little larger. Thinking about this has lead me to a new observation. I'll tell you about it and you can let me know what you think.

I last weighed what I weigh now in 1985. I know this date because it was the year my brother got married. I was on my way up the scale then and was horrified about the size dress I had to wear (mind you--I'm thrilled to be wearing that size today). Anyway to the best of my recollection, I stayed at that weight for a long time--sort of a set point. So what I'm wondering is if my body has reached one of it's former set points--perhaps it thinks it should reset there. Have any of you had this experience--or am I totally off my rocker?????

Claudel--Welcome! Is this treat you are addicted to sugar-free? If it has sugar, the only way I know to get rid of the sweet tooth is to get rid of sweets altogether. On the other hand, if it is SB appropriate, then there is something else going on. It might help to keep track of your emotions when you "need" this fix. You might get a handle on another need that you have to address before this problem is fixed! I see you live in NYC. I hope you and all your loved ones are ok. Your city has been in my thoughts and prayers since the tragedy of the 11th.

BOB--I do need to get a picture up. I'm hoping to get a scanner in the next couple of weeks--I'll work on it. In the meantime--I bet you are tired. Not only have you had to deal with trying to comprehend the events of the 11th--you've had your own emergencies to deal with. Get some sleep--you deserve it!

Lizery--Welcome! You are doing great! I hope you will stay with us for the rest of your weight loss adventure!

Thunder--you go girl! Knock his socks off!

I hope everyone else has a good evening. I'm going to Montgomery tomorrow--so I may not be on till evening.

Hallo everyone!

I phoned my local library, not one of the books you suggested are available. Remember I live in AFRICA. One of our local bookstores is going to try to get hold of one of the books for me.

I f you say you read the labels, are the labels marked with the GI factor? Most of our labels are marked only with the fat, carbohydrate, protein, energy, and fibers content ect. At this stage I am scarred to change the eating plan because I know to little about SB.

Help me if I understand it wrong:

All fruit are allowed except banana, watermelons, and raisins. The fruit should only be consumed on an empty tummy.

All vegetables are allowed except potato, carrots, and beet.

Only whole wheat breads and brown rice are allowed

All meat products are allowed.

Special K, Oats and All bran flakes are allowed for cereals.

I am not sure about the following: Butter, olive oil, mayonnaise, cream, milk, and yogurt, sugar free cold drinks like Tab? Beverages like coffee and tea are they allowed? SB concentrates on low fat, high fiber, high protein with no sugar?

How much of what are allowed?

Fly- yes we are entering spring now and it is a wonderful feeling. I live in the part of South Africa that get rain only in Spring and Summer so we really can t wait for the first rains to start falling.

Sorry for all the questions.

Hi everyone,
Sorry I havnt called in the last few days.
Im afraid its all got a bit much with everything going on in the wrold. ive had trouble dragging myself away from the telly and have been keeping up to datse with whats going on over there with reading newspapers on the web.
It is such a worry I really do feel for you all. It is looking like a really big worldwide picture now that is not going to go away like bad dream/nightmare.

My thinking has not really been on food so much and im afraid I have slipped up in that department on more than one occassion.
I cant help but feel frivalous worring about myself at the moment.

Debbie those are gourgeous photos you posted and it is wonderful to see you all.
If you dont hear from me much its not cos Im not thinking of you, I am I just find it hard and shallow to come here as I said with what your facing and talking food and little ups and downs and this is not the place to talk about the other and you need a safe haven to get away from it I am sure and I understand that.

I am thinking of you and praying for you all.

Hi everyone

Sorry I missed WIW. I was without internet on Wednesday as the guys who are working on the road behind our house cut the cable. So no internet and no TV for a couple of days. Then at work last evening I couldn't even browse as we weren't able to use the net because of the virus.

The weight stayed the same this week at 196 lbs - at least better than a gain.

Kim - Hope you have recovered from your surgery and you are feeling better.

Deb -Thanks for the info on the Dinosaur Eggs. They sound really yummy.

Rhroo - Hope you are enjoying the Mommy Alone time. How's dd settling into kindergarten. Happy SB anniversary.

Nance - That was a fabulous photo of you and the family. How did the test go to-day?

Amser, Viv and Deb - Loved your pictures too.

Jred - Congrats on the 2 lbs lost this week. Doesn't it feel good when the clothes start to get loose?

Beachfan - It's good to see you posting again but sorry to hear about the gain although it is quite understable in this stressful time. I am sure you will be able to get back on track again and lose those pounds. We are all here for you.

Lizery - WELCOME. Sounds like you have made a good start on SB with 13.5 lbs gone.

Fly - Sounds like you are doing really well with exercising and running. You go girl.

Solshine - I'm sure we will be crossing the 190 line together. I didn't lose any this week - just stayed the same although I expected to lose at least a little bit as my appetite wasn't too good last week as I was feeling a bit yucky. But then I haven't been exercising much lately either. It's time I got back into gear again.

Bee - I understand how you feel about posting with the present world situation. It is really depressing and I find it hard to concentrate on other things, but as you say we do all need an outlet to take our minds off of it for a little while.

Hensa - WELCOME. I was looking at Montignacs website and came across the following which might be useful to you:

The English and the Dutch publishers of the books on the Method Montignac are represented in South Africa by Mr. Jef van Heesewijk. He can be reached at:

You won't find the GI on labels but you should check the sugar grams. If it has 3 grams or less of sugar per serving it is acceptable. Hopefully one day the GI will be printed on all packaged foods. I know this is something they are working on in Australia and hopefully for North America too. Carrots are o.k. raw - uncooked carrots have a much lower GI than cooked carrots. Also corn is not allowed. You should look for whole GRAIN breads not just whole wheat. Some breads that are described as whole wheat are really no better than white bread. If you are using wheat bread look for bread made with Stone Ground Whole Wheat flour. Pumpernickle and barley bread is also acceptable. Brown rice is recommended but basmati rice, white or brown, is also acceptable. Also parboiled or converted rice is o.k. - this has the lowest G.I of all the rices.

All meat is allowed but try to restrict intake of red meat as it is high in saturated fat. Chicken is a better choice, also fish is a good protein source. Some fish, like salmon, is high in fat but it is the 'good' fat so is acceptable. Be wary if you are using processed meats as many are processed with honey or sugar. Some of the breakfast cereals that are o.k. are Oatmeal (regular, not instant), Oatbran, Special K, Shredded Wheat with Bran, Allbran. SB is not low fat/high protein. Fat should be consumed in moderation. The ratio of carbs/protein/fat that is recommended is 40/30/30. Olive oil is o.k., but we should keep the saturated fats like butter and cream to a minumum. I use 2% milk but I know lots of SB'ers use 1%. Yogurt is o.k., preferably low fat. Eat lots of vegetables and salads and keep starchy carbs (bread, rice pasta) to a minimum. It is recommended that we have no more than two or three servings of starchy carbs per day for weight loss. A serving being 1 slice of bread, 1/2 cup rice or pasta. Beans and lentils are allowed. Most of them are low gi. Hope this helps. This is just my 2 cents worth. I am sure others will have some more answers for you.

All for now.

Bye.

Marie.

Good Evening to all.

I am not sure if this is the new board or the old, but I am trying it anyway. I am watching the special that is on all the channels tonight and feel like I want to reach out to people that I care about. I hope that everyone had a good day today and that things this week were easier than last week. We need to be strong cause no one knows what is coming in the days, weeks, and months ahead.

I have been thinking as much I as would love to go help in New York, that is impossible, so what I can do is win the war that my body is waging with me and win this battle with my weight. This will give me the mind set that I can win other battles and I will be stronger and ready to be emontionally supportive for the future. I suppose that this has a very selffish outlook, but this is a real war I have going with my body. It just does not want to give up control it has on the fat that is attached to me.

Fillise....I have to agree with you about set points. I am at a weight that I was 10 years ago and stayed at this weight for a long time, before gaining at least 75 more pounds. I have been trying for several months to lose the one or two pounds a week like I was and things are so so so slow to move. I am hoping that once things start it will be a progress that gives me the boast like I had when I started. So good luck Fillise...and let me know if you find the key to the set point thing.

I started something new this week. The Y in town opened a new building and I joined and started with water aerobics. Went twice this week, the class is an hour each time. What a work out, and, of course, it is up to me how hard I want to make it, so I go toward the deeper water. And I slipped and almost went under. But it was still fun. Plus I like meeting new people. I have had the tendency to seperate myself from others. I have closed off my life from people because I was so afraid of getting hurt by others again. SO I ate my way to a size that I was sure no one would want to be around. Well, now I have worked so hard on these problems and I am ready to let people in my life, cause I know that not eveyone is gonna hurt me, and now I have lost some weight and I am getting healthy and I want to be around people. But after having a wall around me for 10 years, it is so hard to meet people. So the Y is great for me. But I am still walking on the days that I don't go to the Y.

Well, I guess I have rambled on enough. I wish you all a get day tomorrow. Keep smiling and stay strong.
Laurie

(I started this post in the morning, before the board was off line)

Good Friday Morning Everyone:wave:

Woke up this morning and did my usual "hopping on the scale" routine. Again, I was mad, still up today! I hmmmed & hawed about going out again today-wondering, "why bother?" Part of me wanted to go out, the part that was feeling sorry for myself didn't, but I decided to go anyhow. Figured I'd do 3.5miles, but ended up doing my full 4.5 miles in 53 minutes flat with 17 jogs. I thought to myself, if I hadn't walked, I was spiting no one but myself! Just like in years past when I would get mad I'd eat something very fattening-who was I hurting, only me. I also realized really just how far I have come with my emotional eating. I know I've conquered this demon, esp. after recent events in our country-the old me would of sat down with a 1/2 gallon of ice cream (or a bag of cookies, or bars of candy) and some tissue and eat and cry-now, I just cry-this is what it's like to be normal, I guess (some are going to argue-me normal-lol!).

CLAUDEL, I think you have overcome other "addictions" you've had, ones that are harder to overcome than this ice cream, so I'm sure you can cut back on this dessert as well. I have a feeling this "ice cream" you describe is much like the Carbolite I eat about twice a week. Depending on what it's sweetened with, this could be causing you trouble with the weight dept., if it has Maltodextrin, this can cause you to gain weight. Despite that, knowing you have a problem is part of the solution, it's those who won't admit they have a problem who have the most trouble. I would say you should try to make a pact with yourself and make 2 days a week that you will allow yourself to have a serving of this dessert. Just stay clear of the place and know you will be able to have it in xx days instead of today-give yourself something to look forward to, make it was it should be a "once-in-a-while" treat, not something you expect to have every day. You CAN get this under control easily-anyone who has taken control of other areas within your life surely can do this!! Let us know how things go and what you do decided:) Hey, and CONGRATS on those 25lbs!!!

FILLISE, good for you to attend you HS Reunion! I haven't gone to a single one of mine-was way too fat. Really missed going to the 20th (ugh, I really am getting old!). I tried to lose weight and have the desire to go, but it didn't work out as I had wanted, so I missed out seeing people from my past. I swear, if we're all around for the 25th, I'm sure as heck going! You may be somewhat correct on this "set point" theory, but I think it's more of a plateau. No, you aren't off your rocker to think this, your body can remember that you were at this point for quite a while, but in time, you will start losing again. It's when you get close to your goal weight that you will find a true "set point" and it may be higher than what your actual goal weight is. Just be patient and I'm sure the scale will start going down again. Who know's, maybe this 128 is my set-point! Hope not though!

HENSA, you can try AMAZON.COM to get the SB BOOK, see how the shipping and costs compares to your book store: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0345425588/terrafly/104-7285752-0312705 You have the basic idea of SB from what info you read. We do not have GI listings available on our foods here, not sure if anyone does. You "learn" this from looking at the GI charts, and there are quite a few on the web. One of my favorites is at this site: http://www.nutrinews.com/public/recipesfood/referencedatabases/glycemicindex/index.cfm BUT, you must remember, you also have to look at the sugar and refined ingredients, not just the GI-like a candy bar may seem lower GI than a sweet potato, but we don't eat sugars, or other stuff that's in that candy bar. Reading labels for the ingredients is very important, you don't want to see a food that has sugars, or honey, corn syrup, etc. SB "rules" state you can eat a food that has 3 grams of sugar or less PER SERVING-personally, I won't buy it, expect for SB LEGAL CHOCOLATE that I do now partake in. Pineapple is another fruit we don't eat. Corn and any corn products (corn starch, popcorn, etc) we don't eat. Whole grain breads, sourdough and real pumpernickle breads are acceptable. Sourdough because of the way the fermentation takes place. There's also the fact that when you put a high GI food with a low GI food, it gives you a medium based GI food-it's a lot to comprehend it seems, but it all comes in time. No one has learned this their first day, or even week. Here I am, 1 1/2 years later, and I'm STILL learning! I would suggest you get the little pocket book that's THE SUGAR BUSTERS SHOPPERS GUIDE, that will help a bit. Butter, olive oil, etc are all fine, in moderation. SB is NOT a high protein, low carb, etc. diet, but a healthy balance. It's suggested that 30% of your intake from fat, 40% from carbs and 30% from protein-like the ADA recommends, I believe. Don't say you are sorry for asking questions, that's why we're here!!!:D

BEE, I believe there are very few in this vast world of ours who haven't been affected by our tragedies here in the States-most probably because people realize that if it can happen here, it can happen anywhere. Please, don't NOT post because you are afraid of talking about your ups and downs, and other things you think are frivalous-if I don't come on this board a hundred times a day and say something, anything, I'd go mad. We need to get back to our normal lives here and all over-we all have our problems, individually and collectively-this is a support board, not just of our weight, our accomplishments, but our friendships as well. We all need each other more than ever to get through these tough times-please post, and post, and post-no matter WHAT the context may be :)

BOB, thanks for the heads up-I probably wouldn't of checked the board until tomorrow if it weren't for you and ROSALIE alerting me that it was up-thank goodness, I was ready to go into my second withdrawl symptom!

ROSALIE, thanks to you too for the heads up about the site:) Geez, bad enough not having TV, but no internet connection-that's REALLY bad! Glad to see you back though. I'm so happy for you, really, 196, even though there's no loss, it sure beats the heck out of being at 200! I'm sure you'll have one of those mystery drops on the scale soon:)

LAMAP, yep, you have the right board! Congrats on joining the Y-that's wonderful! You really are moving in the right direction, in more ways than one!!

Well gals, I'm glad to see the board up and running, though not sure if there will be anymore outages this weekend or not-lets just cross the fingers.

I send {{{HUGS}}} to you all, have a wonderful weekend!!! Hey, tomorrow is my 1 1/2 year SB ANNIVERSARY!!! Should I celebrate?? Thought about having a tiny piece of my favorite chocolate, it's been sitting in my cupboard for a year now, actually, expired in May-should I??????:?: Votes please!!!!

Hi, thought I'd do a different size today. It looks really funny compared to the other posts though. I've been up and lazy listening to CNN and checking out internet. Gearing up for the big push to clean my greening pool (we don't close til mid Oct because of warmer weather at time) and going through Ben's closets. They must be done separately from room or I'd be buried alive :dizzy: Then I'm playing with the boys and of course running. Doing 4.5 in honor of Deb, our continual inspiration! If you haven't checked it out on email check out the pictorial. It was very moving. Today is the Autumnal Equinox. Any significance? And Yom Kippur is upcoming. What does that mean? Deb? Viv? Is it another party?

Deb-Does this happen in your house? A child is on keyboard of computer IMing friends with a phone hooked to his ear???? This is a common phenomenon in my home. I remember having a cauliflower ear when I was his age. That was before pc's for the masses. I have a feeling I'd be guilty as well. Congrats on 1 1/2 years anniversary! I vote eat that chocolate during your next walk. I don't know if I could resist all that chocolate if it was around. I'll have to experiment when I'm ready. Had salmon last night. Yum,yum, yum. Can you believe it? I had called Peter and requested a grocery stop on way home and told him my day was stressful. (4 bus loads of children on a Friday) get the picture? Anyway, he shows up with a bouquet of flowers! Those of you who get flowers regularly don't know how floored I was. I've been YEARS without flowers from Peter at times. Begging for him to bring some to me. I've stopped begging. Pitiful wasn't I? So I was deeply touched. I predict tomorrow you'll have a postive scale post to make. Glad you didn't succumb to your feelings before walk. How was the garage sales?

Fillese-Congrats on 25th reunion resolve. Are you wearing red? You may have something there. Remember all that whining I did around 175? :o I remember being there a really long time. Trying to lose weight too. I think I skipped the 160's I seem to be breezing through this 10. Probably get stuck at 159. I remember the 150's. We'll see. I'll be glad to help you test this theory. Had fun in Montgomery?

Hensa-Whew! Glad Rosalie and Deb came to my rescue. When I read your posts I went to find my Sugarbusters book and couldn't. :o I move it around to refer to and well, I'm a bit forgetful. Glad the rains are coming. What is your area like? I'm soooo glad I found this board. I can't wait to hear about your continued success.

Bee-I'm going through conflicting emotions myself. I have steeled myself to continue as normal because I don't want the terrorists to reach their goal of instilling fear in my life.

Bob-Loved your reunion story. I love how you stay so positive. Go big orange! Did you rub Skeeter yet?

Rosalie-I have to admit :o I didn't exercise yesterday. Thank you for the encouragment. I do plan a run today 4.5. You'll know if I'm successful if I post it later. You are an angel to post all that info and links. What would we do without you? I love all the newbie questions because it reminds me all the rules too.

lamap-I find that I have a personal war myself with this weight. I have struggled with it for over 30 years. I find it is a "civil" war mostly too. I am soooo grateful to Debbie, Rosalie, Fillese, and all you others who are so committed to helping others. I can tell you that mentally I was ready to just quit and join the over 200 crowd. I'm being honest. I was so tired of fighting it and not winning. That is why I know that God heard my prayer when I prayed to take this away from me for a final time. I was there. I couldn't go on another moment without a significant win. Maybe that's why I am successful right now. Because it was either win again or utterly fail. There you go girls. Getting a picture of my black and white thinking I tend to do. Thanks for the patience with my droning. I applaud your efforts to overcome your barriers. That is a stuggle for me as well. So we'll do this together ok?

Nance-Patrick (my 6th grader) had a dance last night. He looked so adorable. I had to get prescription pads with amoxicilan (sp?) for his beginning fight with acne. If you all remember my older son just finished his first round with Accutane and with his severe nodular acne. This is unfortunately heriditary on Peters side. I'm hoping my genes may prevail (just a few pimples in puberty) and keep the other two from going through it.

Well-off to clean, run and have fun!

WHOOPS!!! :o

FLY Sorry...I've not been too good at addressing everyone that I should lately...
YES!!! Skeeter really appreciated that little rub...I caught him while he was on his back...those little back legs were just a
kicking!!
I agree with your civil war action...I've been battling this weight thing all my life...well since I was in 1st grade anyway...
Debbie and I think we have it figured out , and it's up to me to take the next step to conquor and divide!
One of my problems is that for so long I have listened to all the wrong people and tried EVERY DIET that hit the shelf! My
body is so screwed up that yes, I can lose a few pounds, but then everything comes to a screeching halt....THEN I pick up another book and start that (not giving the first one time to work)
and dive right in to that one...Honey...I could go on and on...but we all know the end of the storey....we've all been there...some of us are there now...WE JUST HAVE TO GET A GRIP AND DO IT!!!!

I've got to go to the HOME DEPOT and BJ's....perfect time to stock my freezer with correct food ;)

LATER....

Good Saturday Morning All:wave:

Seems the board is working for some, and not for others-hope these little kinks get ironed out, and quickly.

Garage sales sucked again this week, spend $2, definitely spent more in gas-should of walked instead! My one day off this week, guess I deserve it-though from the looks of the scale, I should of walked, then again, I've been walking and it's not done me any good this week-am I rambling enough for everyone?!? The scale is STILL up today-not very encouraging. I think not only has/was it mid-cycle, but I think it's the stress of thinking about what has happened with our country. I am one that will say "don't let things like that bother you, there's nothing you can do about the situation, so try not to think about it", but I think I can't convince myself of this and it may be stressing me out and not really realizing it. I saw the scale go mysteriously up back the end of May/early June when there was a stressful situation-I stuck it out and it came back down, so I am hoping the same will take place, and soon! I had an EOM of goal of 123, I highly doubt that's going to materialize at this point. I'll continue on, be patient and pray for more than the scale to go down.

AND, now how in the world can I justify eating a tiny piece of chocolate? Esp. since the scale is so up? This little bar is like the size of 1 twix bar, but lighter, it's flakey, best I can describe it, and has 4 little sections, like an inch each-I was going to try and eat 1 inch of it-but why? Just because I made it to 1 1/2 years? Because I've never cheated? Definitely an inner struggle-not something I really desire, yet, will I ever give in to anything? Enquiring minds want to know (esp. Eli). I'll let you all know if I do indulge-I think I'll figure out the caloric info before I do-who knows, that 1 inch may prove to be SB LEGAL!!!

Since the site has moved to the new server, all our links to the other boards that I have in the first post are no longer valid, so this Monday I will have all the updated links. Until then, you just have to find the individual boards on your own.

My sister just called to see if I would be willing to rub her butt-meaning SHE'S PREGNANT, AGAIN! I'm the official butt ruber in the delivery room. This will be number 5 for her-better her than me, though I hear my Mother is NOT happy about this at all-oh well, not much she can do about it, so she better get over it. My sister really can't afford another one, and the little one just turned 1 in July, this one will be due around May. I think it bothers my Mother that she doesn't give herself time between the children to spend "quality time" with them before she has another one. My nephew from her first marriage is almost 14 then the other 3 are 5 and under, so this will be 4 at just 6 and under, since my oldest nieces 6th bday will be in May as well.

BOB, however you are getting to the board now, just keep that link and I think that will be permanent.

FLY, thanks again for walking in my honor! Yom Kippor is known as the Day of Atonement-of course, being a non-religious Jew, here's a site that gives a brief explanation: http://www.holidays.net/highholydays/yom.htm Oh yes, I can relate to the children being multi-phonunctional-they can type I/M's, talk on the phone AND watch TV at the same time-multi tasking children at such a young age! Do you mean I should walk and eat the chocolate at the same time-make me work for it?!? LOL! That was nice for hubby to surprise you with flowers. Eli hasn't done that in a long time-use to do it all the time-such is life. Knowing him, I'll probably get some for my birthday.

Well gals, I'm gonna go-the kids are being picked up in about an hour, Eli's working late and I'm going to do NOTHING much today-back in my nightie, probably take a nap, clean up in the house a bit-who knows, it's my day all alone. I'll check in with the board later.

I AM SO MADDD! This is the third post I've tried to get on the board. My laptop is being really ornery. That's such a good Texas word :smug: .

The first post was right after Presidents Bush's speech. It was wonderful and I was so proud he was finally able to show the world just the kind of man he is. Those hugs, handshakes, and words of appreciation on the way to the podium were genuine. He was my govenor for 6 years and I lived in AR for 9 years with another former President as my govenor for 7 of those. I know the difference.

Bee - Thanks for your concern. I understand your feelings about posting at this time. I had a very hard time putting anything down. But this board has helped me put things back to some kind of normalcy. The thought of war is scary. My son will be one of those fighting if this lasts as long as some are saying. He graduates in '04 and will have to go through a year or so of more training. But if this lasts longer than 4 years, he'll be fighting. That's not something we ever thought would be happening. He was supposed to do his time, then apply for a job with NASA. He wants to be an astronaut. I hope, no, I pray now, that he gets to see that dream come true.

BOB - Cleaning!? Wish I could get the gumption. My dh has been working at home and it's so hard to do anything while he's here. I do much better when the house is empty.

Kim- Hope you continue to recover from your surgery. I'm so glad it was successful.

Thunder - Way to go! Does your husband work offshore? I'd definitely take him up on the offer to buy something new. You should reward yourself after so many pounds off. 10's a good number. And facials are a wonderful treat!!!

Hensa and Lizery - Welcome. You will love this board.

Fly- Ditto on the IM/phone phemon. My dd took over our extra phone line when we went DSL and I've seen her with the phone glued to her ear while typing to 5 or 6 different friends at the same time. I'm surprised she hasn't pulled a muscle in her shoulder  .

Marie - What wonderfully shared information. It does us all good to read it put down in such an easily understandable way.

Laurie - Isn't water aerobics wonderful? So soothing as well as a workout. Our Y enclosed the pool a couple of summers ago and now we can exercise year round.

Deb - I'm right there with you on the scales. They took back those two pounds and now I've been stuck for several days. Probably has something to do with not exercising daily. I admire you for sticking to your exercise program. It takes lots of discipline.

Fillise - GO. HAVE FUN. CELEBRATE LIFE.

I finished my poem. Here is it. I needed to yell at someone so I yelled at Satan.

You thought you could destroy us
You only awakened us
Your darkness could not cover us
Your evil will not win.

We are a mighty people
Founded on one God
United we will stand against you
We will not give up hope.

Our God will be exalted
He reigns forever over us
His love will never fail us
His awesome might prevails.

He hears our fears and worries
He knows our heart of hearts
Today we stand and tell the world
Always in God we trust.

Feels like ages since I've had a chance to actually read the board & respond. I'm off today & have the house to myself. DH is on call & had to go in to work. My sister has moved back home after 5 months, & my dd who was here for a few days visiting while I was working has gone back to Texas. So I slept till 10AM & then have been sitting here reading & replying since then.

I got on the scale to find a loss this am, I am down to 141!! I'm so excited. Congratulations to all you losers this week! For those that have gained or maintained, HANG IN THERE!

Debbie That was some talking to you gave yourself about being mad at the scale, etc. I can relate. Sometimes we just have to find something to blame, but truth is that we are the fault & cannot seem to focus in on that. At least that is the way I see it. Thanks for sharing with us what was on your heart & mind, cause we all needed to hear that we are not the only ones that are batling with these kinds of thoughts. I also have flabby arms & bought some 3 lb weights, but they don't work unless I take them out of the box! I could not get to the new board with the link you sent, but went back to the "top of forum" of the that page & it brought me here! Thanks.

AMSERAPHIM, Glad to see you back on the board. Hey, that 120 will be back, just hang in there. Giving yourself till Christmas to loss that extra 5 is probably a good idea. That sounds like an attainable goal. I hope you all find a solution for your gm. I know that is a concern for you.

Bob Congrats on being a new-aunt-to-be!!! Hope you are drying out ok.

VIV, I so enjoyed seeing your pic!! You are so thin & look really young! I try to imagine the faces of those on the board that we have not seen a oic of & somehow never seem to be any where close to the actually look. I pictured you taller & older.

FROG, So sorry to hear that you have gained 8 lbs in the past 7 weeks due to this med. I have been fortunate not to be having a problem with it. My pain has been (for the most part,) under control. A few twinges here & there the last week or so with the added stress, but manageable. Good news that your dh is not enlisting & that the diarrhea has ceased. I'm sure that's a load off your mind!

QUILTER/Kim, So glad to hear that all went well & it was benign!!

BEACHFAN, So glad to see you back on board! So sorry to hear of all the stress you've been under & that you have gotten off plan, but you are right to head back here as quickly as possible! :) You will soon be back on program & those extra lbs should come right off. Hope that you don't work too hard with all that is going on right now. I admire you for the work that you do. The Red Cross is such a valuable agency in times of crisis. I remember when we had help from the Red Cross back in 1980 after having a foot of water inside our house for over a week. Clean up would have been so much harder without their help.

TVthatsME Glad to see you back. Hope this new dose of thyroid medication helps. I agree, if bodies are found, it will be more of a closure for those families of the victims. Even when there is a body, it is hard enough, much less when there is none.

Shannon, I guess I must have missed your post, but I saw from Debbie's post that you are new, so welcome!! Hope you will find lots of encouragement here. You couldn't have found a better home! :)

Hensa, welcome to the board! Sugar Busters! is definitely the better diet, or we say way of eating (woe)! You are not so deprived of fiber & carbs, just have to watch WHAT carbs you eat. And yes, you will find many success stories here. Debbie will steer you in the right direction. :)

CATLOVER, Congrats on the 2 lb loss & the success on your golfing game. Sorry, I know zilts_nada_zero about golfing! :)

Solshine, How's the job hunting going?? Good to hear that you're holding below the 200 mark. Hey, sounds like the yard will good good when you're done planting. The mailbox area sounds really cute. I have herbs growing amongest the flowers & the garden plants, usually, but we have had sooooo much rain lately that the garden is gone. Just okra still making.

Nance, Loved the picture Debbie posted of your wedding! Nice to finally put a face to your posts. Sorry to hear that Dan is on alert. Maybe he won't be called out, or at least not to a danger zone. Good luck on your test for the new job!

FILLISE, Sorry to hear that the scale is stuck for you. Just hang in there & it will be moving again. It seems like it takes me forever to loose now to next next lb, but it eventually does! Great for you on your decision to go to your reunion!! I know you will be glad you did once you're there. You've worked hard to get where you are now, don't let anyone or anything make you feel bad about that.

BUTTERFLY, I  at your battle with the missing socks. Made me reminese of when the girls were young & still at home, but now the are fighting that losing battle themselves with their youngens! LOL I always thought that those missing socks were under the beds, but I guess it was the washer that would eat them up. Don't seem to have that problem with dh's socks, or maybe it's because he helps with the wash that I just don't notice as much. Hey, those flowers must have REALLY made your day!! I love getting flowers, but I'm afraid it doesn't happen nearly as often a it use to around here. LOL Oh well, sae la vie! Also, I applaude your honesty in you post to LAMAp regarding this battle with weight. God does hear us & all too often we fail to recognize that the directions & answers we get actually DO come from Him. Thanks for the reminder.

lizery wow! looks like you've got a good headstart on the weight problem. Good going! Welcome to our board. Looking forward to getting to know you. Will go check out your BIO next.

Thunder, sounds like it was a wonderful reunion for you & dh! Keep it up girl.

Meliris Wish I could send you some of our rain. We're just about to float off to the gulf here it's been raining so much. Since we're below sea level here, that would not be hard to do.

Claudel, Welcome to the board! Glad to hear that you have made some necessary eating & life-changing habits. You will certainly benefit from those. Now, you say you just need to get a handle on this frozen yougart habit? First of all, is it SF? If not, lose the directions to that place you buy it. LOL I have learned to allow myself 1 scoup of SF ice cream as dessert each night as my reward for sticking to plan each day. It has not happered me from losing. I enjoy it & only if I have blown it really bad that day do I omit it. This has worked for me. Good luck!

Bee, I was just thinking about you when I came across your post. I had not seen you posting, but then again, I have been MIA for the last week also with my heavy work schedule. Hope all is going ok with you & dd? Bee, we do need to hear about the food worries & all the other worries that we have everyday to get our minds off the BIG worries of the world. Those will not go away in the near future, but we do need to keep our minds & our bodies in shape. Feeling better about ourselves is the only thing we can control right now & we certainly need to feel like we have control over something! Thanks for your thoughts & prayers for our country. You are right in that it is not only our country that is at stake here, it is all of us in general.

ROSALIE, NO INTERNET?? NO TV?? OMG!!! LOL We have been having alot of thunderstorms here the last few days & have had to unplug the puter alot, but also without electricity a couple of times in late afternoon, so I sympathize with you. Glad to hear that you are holding at 196. Better than gaining. I seem to stay at a certain wt for a couple of weeks alot before dropping to the next lb. But at least it's not a gain.

LAMAP, I totally agree with you on the view point of winning our own war against our weight & not letting ourselves be defeated with the worries of our nation's battle right now. I addressed that in my post to Bee above. We have to stay focused. Glad to hear that you have gone out & joined the Y. That sounds like a winning thing to do! Don't work too hard. Take some time for you!

j red, Yes, I agree with you! We have a wonderful president now & I think he will do the right thing for all of us. I agrre that he should not just jump into action, but carefully plan out each & every move, because his decisions will affect the whole world, not just our country. What a well written, beautiful poem!! I agree, this act was not just one of terrorists, it was one of Satan, & God IS victorious! We just have to trust in Him.

SEF, Where are you??? Hope that you are ok. Is Arthur visiting again? I hope not.

RHOO, How are you? are you enjoying your time alone with the little one at school?

Gatorgal Hi there, sounds like you're still hanging in there. Will you be traveling to BR for the big game this year? One of the nurses I work with has been in an uproar cause the first game of the season was canceled & it's all she talked about for days! LOL

KAREN, How is your mom doing? Are you getting some cooler weather your way? We sure could use some here.

WOW, I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS POST TO BE SO LONG, BUT I guess that's because it's been so long since I have had the opportunity to respond! It sure feels good to be able to finally catch up. I don't know if any of you have missed me, but I sure have missed you all. Have a great day everyone!

Back and sweaty and happy. Boy 4.5 takes a loooonnnng time. Took me an hour. Guess I didn't powerwalk. Ok I was going to run but.......

Miss Bob--Hows the game? Never apologize, never explain. I don't know who said it but I thought it when you apologized. I'm just happy to hear from the two of you. And I loved the wagon train. Can I ride shotgun? And I also have dibs on the jacuzzi. But I will share.

Deb-Butt rub.....hmmmmm. I wasn't a believer until had a massage therapist do it. Now I use the massager my dh got me for Christmas. Congratulations to your ds. God bless her. She must have incredible patience and a great family. I know her sis is special. Thanks for Yom Kippur link. I like the idea of feasting then fasting and of course, asking for atonement. I forgot about kids & tv too. Or as Bee says "telly". What cards these kids are. I didn't think about you working for chocolate but I know how you're struggling with scale so I thought you could work it off while you're consuming it. :D Ugh. Just took the 6th message for Ben. Isn't parenthood grand. "Ben's not here, may I have your name and here's the cell phone # he has. " Oh, I bet I can put social secretary on my resume now or at least when all three are getting messages. Found Author's Choice Sugarbusters brand Angel Hair pasta at my grocery store. 16 oz for $3.19. I didn't even think they had a Sugarbuster product anywhere. I'm having spaghetti tonight! They have a terrific receipe for Angel Hair pasta with Sea Scallops that I'm going to try out (on the side of the box). There's another new thread from another newbie. :^: You have a great afternoon. Time for the closets!

Jred-ornery. Loved that. Keep throwing those Texas phrased. I agree with you about George W. If you really want to know a man-watch his actions. I don't think his hoarsness was fake these last couple of weeks. I have the boy challenge too. Next year my dear Ben graduates. I will steel myself to accept whatever he decides or God decides then do a lot of praying. I loved the shoulder muscle. How do they keep that many phone conversations straight? And what will our grandchildren be doing at that age?

See ya later.

Debbie, I'm just popping in to let you know I found the board okay. That was awesome of you to keep in contact while the server move was going on. Some other posts of yours I wanted to respond to hope I can find some time before it's way old news.

To everybody else, your plugging on in the light of recent events is very encouraging.

I've been doing pretty good; under a lot of pressure at work because of the panic and stock market decline. Yesterday I was so wound up that one small kindness from my roommate and I burst into tears and couldn't stop crying for 2 hours. (Fortunately in private) I think I needed to do that; feel much better. I'm going to get my hair cut in a minute and that's always a pick-me-up.

Gotta run!

Love,

Chris

Whoa-Posting has been a trying experience( I've been trying, and trying, and trying...). I've even gone through an identity change. At one point, I could only get on by creating a new username so if you see any posts from melgum , that's me. But I think they all got lost.:(

Haven't done a darn thing today since kid soccer at 8:30 am. Yesterday I raked more dead lawn and shredded my hands, and I guess my muscles were really tight because when I stretched this morning, it seemed like something stabbed me in the back with an ice pick. So much for stregnth training!

So all I want to do is EAT:devil: Dh is out in Columbus visiting dd and wiring up computers for the 5 girls (OK- how bout this- they all live in the same house, and are complaining that they can't IM each other and shouting down the hall is too much effort!) So far I've stayed legal, but ds is lobbying for KFC for dinner. I think part of the problem is I've now reached half my goal and I know it's doable. Some of the challenge is gone. Deb and others at or near goal: How in the world do you do it? Here I am only half way there and I'm loosing it.:( But only mentally. Enough whining!

Jred- The poem was beautiful. I printed out a copy and put it on my night stand.

Melf- CONGRATULATIONS! I hope I can join you down there. Good going. Loved the weights in the box line. GO PICK THEM UP! Then you'll have great muscle tone like me so you can pull your back raking! Just kidding- I'll never stop using the weights. Even if the flab is still there, it just feels so much better!

Frog- I think I missed something probably about 250 posts ago. What meds are bothering you and pain? Don't mean to pry if its not for general consumption. Hope you are feeling better.

Melf (again)- you too?

Sparkle, Bee and everyone else I haven't addressed, welcome back.

Sure hope this post works.

Evening All:wave:

Thought I'd get in a post before Eli comes home in about 45 minutes. Just mixed up some falafel mix for dinner, going to make the taratour (sauce) for it soon-yummy! I swear, sometimes I wonder if I was Middle Eastern in another life!

Well, I made a big deal over this Kinder Bueno candy-just to find out that if I kept it at that small 1/4 of the bar, it falls under the SB guidelines as far as sugar grams, (though none of the other ingredients do!) so, I had a piece-honestly, it wasn't as good as I remembered it-could be my taste buds, could be that it expired back in May:eek: Anyhow, I just took that tiny piece (and I do mean tiny) and put the rest away for another day.

I didn't do a darned thing today-which really is awful-my house could use sprucing up, but I just have no desire to do anything-only took a nap, nothing that requires much on my part. Geez, I couldn't even muster up picking up my water bottle and drinking-I need to get some liquid into this body of mine!!!

I haven't heard from my Mother since my Sister called her-I'm sure I am going to hear an earful from her (my Mom). I think she must still be in a state of shock.

JRED, again, thanks for sharing your poem and thoughts with us. People have found so many ways to express themselves during this unfortunate tragedy - it's good to see all the positive in life.

BOB, **** if I'm going to be drinking anything but bottled water! LOL! Thank goodness, clean bloomers, I was wondering where that funky smell was coming from when the wind blew from the NW!!! What did you think about Will winning BB?

QUILTER, I second what BOB said-where and how in the heck are you feeling and doing? Enquiring minds want to know!!!

MELF, CONGRATS!!! We need to hear wonderful news like that-WOO HOO, 141!!! Hey, you don't have to take those weights out of the box, but it would be easier to get a good grip on them that way. I've been toying with the idea of getting a rebounder (mini-trampoline). I posted on an exercise forum on another site and someone saw my question and ordered one, so far she loves it. I told her when I see how she likes it after the first week, I'd make a decision-maybe treat myself for my bday-the list is getting longer!!!

FLY, 4.5 miles in an hour, that's a good walking pace. The fact is, you got out there today, and I didn't-but my butt WILL be out there tomorrow (unless it's raining, which I don't expect it will be). LOL! My sister really doesn't have the patience, but she'll have to surely find some! Isn't it nice how we take messages so well for our children, yet, when someone calls for us, esp. when it's important, we find out days later, if that! Honestly, I wouldn't bother with buying any SB BRAND item, not worth it at all-it's packaged by one of the larger pasta companies I believe, they just put the SB name on it. Just regular WW pasta is fine to buy. Hope your recipe turns out well:)

SPARKLE, thanks for popping in, we miss hearing from you!! I think we've all had some crying spells this past couple weeks. I know besides the tragedy, watching this John Edwards show, Crossing Over, I cry almost every show!

MEL, I think we can all relate how you feel. I think what my prespective would be is you've won half the battle,(weight) but not the whole war (getting to goal). You have to stay focused, otherwise, the opposing troops (pounds lost) can cross the line and start infeltrating your side (pounds creeping back). I'd say you understand where I am going with this, right? If you start to give in and cheat a little, and you don't see that it changes your weight on the scale, somewhere in the mind, you let it happen more and more often, and before you know it-whoomp, you're gaining, and *****ing and getting really mad! For me personally, I know me-if I cheat, there's no stopping me, I'm like a runaway train headed for a collision, and in knowing this, this keeps me on track-also, hearing the horror stories of people cheating and getting sick has also helped-I get sick enough without cheating, who the heck needs more of that!!!

Guess I should get off of here for now. Will check in before I hit the hay tonight-hope there's some decent TV to watch this evening.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!

Good Afternoon Girls!

I'm being lazy and doing what I call a "general" post! The skinny is......The Nancemeister aced her test. :D YIPEE!!!! I have to go back Monday and take a typing test, and if that goes well, then I will be granted the priviledge of an interview. We had an hour and 45 mins. to take the test, and I got done in one hour. I think I was one of the first five people to finish. Get this...there were 50, yes, you heard me right, 50 people testing for one position! I'm telling you, those state jobs are like gold! Hopefully, I can make it to the point of actually interviewing!

Having a nice relaxing weekend...Dan and I got up early and got all the cleaning done, so we could relax this afternoon. He's got something good going on in the crock pot, and my Mom and brother are coming over for dinner. Kids are busy with friends, dogs are napping, and I'm just kicking back.

South Africa Sugar Buster friend....Welcome!!! Try going to a web site called"Half.com" and you can order a used copy of Sugar Busters from there. I've ordered books from there and they have been in great condition at half the price! Debs told me about it!

Fly-I will have to hear all the details about Patrick "first dance" Faris went to his first concert last night and saw "Blink 182" and then got to saty at the Marriott in San Diego....It's a rought life, but someone's got to live it. Like Dan says....well at least if we can't afford to take him to do such things, at least he has friends that can! We're hoping he'll marry rich!! he he he he! Have your
doctor try Patrick on Tetracycline instead of Amoxicillin. It's better for clearing up cystic acne and better on the system in my opinion, and it's less expensive! I can order it at cost, for like $5.00 a bottle for 100 capsules if you want me to get him some!

I've gotta check something in the oven and then will come back!!

Me again!!!!

Debs- I can't believe your sister is pregnant! HOLY SMOKES!!!!! What's this falafel sauce you are talking about? Recipes....must have recipes!!!! I bet you were a middle eastern person in your past life.....Hello! Your Jewish, it's in your blood! How's Michael doing? I haven't got to bug him on line lately and miss it!

jred-Loved the poem! Good stuff. You may have a new career! You should send it to your local newspaper. Good to hear such kind words about our President. I bet you felt a little prouder than the rest of us having a more intimate introduction. I thought his speech was great!

Melf-141!!!!! You go girl!!!! You are dwindling away to skin and bones! What is your goal? You should treat yourself to something special!!!

Meliris-Is Westchester in the city or country? I would love to visit PA. sometime. It seems like such a beautiful state. Lot of diverse people. Love seeing shows on the amish, etc.

Fillise-You SHOULD go to that High School reunion!!! Bob and I will come on the wagon and pick you up and take you there!!!
Trust me, there are just as many people with all the same hang ups as us girls have, bald, beer belly, divorced, etc. Doesn't matter!!! Go and enjoy. You won't regret it! Do what Fly would do and wear red!!!

Lizery-Welcome! What part of the states are you from? Looking forward to getting to know you better!

Thunder-Has your husband recouped from the shock, or has the reason you haven't posted since that day because you've been in the love shack?

BOB-Let me tell you about those INCRIMINATING pictures....one of them was taken after Debs dragged me around my park for four laps, I had blisters on my feet, was dripping with sweat, but was petting one of the dogs, so she saw that as a "photo oppourtunity". Need I say more! Stop watching so much TV and get some movies....I need some more video recommendations!

Bee-"HI" So neat that your from New Zealand! Wow! I've always wanted to go there. Such a neat culture! Looking forward to getting to know you better.

Rosalie-Glad to hear you are WAY under the 200 mark! Stable is good, over 200 bad! You're doing great! Glad your computer is up and running again! I go nuts when mine isn't!

Frog-Where are you???? Puter probs? How's things with your DH? Mine is still home, thank goodness! How's your training for the marathon going?

Solshine-How's the job searching going? Have you had any interviews yet? Sometimes it's nice to have a little break from it all, but financially, must of us need to work. Hope you find a good stable company that will appreciate you! Prayers are coming your way!

Well....I'm missing people, not intentionally, but I gotta get the rest of dinner going! Glad everyone is doing o.k.!

Hi everybody - Just checking in to say I found the link okay after a couple of bad starts.
Rainy and yucky here today and all I've done is ache all day. The rain really does a number on my old joints.
Husband and I shopped all day - groceries, plants, clothes, etc. One major goal for me today. I purchase a pair of size 20 cotton pants today. First time I've seen size 20 in many years. I was ecstatic. Husband said I'm looking real good. :) He sure knows how to make me smile. And he looks major good also - He's in the 190's. Hasn't seen that in many years either.
Walked two miles today, but had a bad eating day. I ate two slices of pizza. Now I'm doing nothing but drinking water and will continue to do so tomorrow. :o

Thanks Deb for keeping me posted on the new site and all the links that finally got me here.

Hope everyone has a great night. Linda

Had a great dinner tonite: Shrimp Salad and a green salad.

The shrimp salad I made out of shrimp I had leftover from last nite, I boiled about 2 lbs. I put green onions, celery, spiral pasta, a little of Tonys Creole, boiled eggs and a enough mayo to make it moist and boy was it good.:D . Well better get off here I have a show I want to watch. Everyone have a great nite and may tomorrow be a sun shiny day for everyone!:spin:

Just a quick post to say I sure am glad I'm not trying to be Miss America. I'd sure hate to show the world how dumb I was answering those questions!

To any and all interested: you are welcome to print my poem for yourselves. Writing poetry is something I've done since high school. Have always loved it and use it to help, heal, and work through things. I could probably fill up a book, but don't know if anyone'd be interested in publishing it. One thing I can do - make people cry. I even make myself cry sometimes when I reread them. Weird, huh?

Off to bed. Hope everyone has a restful Sunday.

Hi. Mind if I join in? I really like what I've been reading here. I have been on SB for about 2 1/2 months and have lost 14 pounds. :D I've been pretty bad this last week though and need to get back on track. I hope I can learn who everybody is and keep it all straight. Looking forward to getting to know all of you.;)

Hi everyone -

Just a quick check in - still struggling to get back into a routine and get into the mindset of staying OP. I will get there, I will get there. . . .

MELF - thanks for asking about my mom. I've been so busy I haven't gone to visit for two weeks and I don't think I'll get there tomorrow. I wish it was closer! She's showing a little decline now, but that's to be expected. The weather has cooled down considerably and we have had lots of rain. It's hard to get the outside projects accomplished. At least we don't have to have the heat on yet!

I liked all the discussions about socks disappearing. I throw the orphans into a bag and use them for dusting--I stick my hand in one and spray the dusting stuff on the outside and run my hand around whatever is getting dusted. When it gets completely dirty I throw it away.

Another busy week coming up and hopefully the stress level will stay down. We are having a family reunion at my house next Sun. and I have a lot of work ahead of me to clean, etc. Wish it was a more fun project.

Hope you all are having a good weekend. KIM - get better quick and I'm so glad they didn't find anything nasty!

Good Sunday Morning Everyone:wave:

Just got in from my walk/jog-got a very late start considering when I usually hit the pavement, but today, I felt like going, so out I went-was only going to walk, it was sooo hot out there, but got the gumpshun to do the 17 jogs I usually do-not great times, 54:06, but at least I went. Had a total of 27 miles for the week:)

Eli is off today-of course, we will probably end up in Broward as usual-you can see we are definitely creatures of habit! Not sure what else we may end up doing-maybe a movie today, haven't gone to one in a long time.

The scale is down a pound today, yet still up 3. I am hoping it continues on a downward trend, being up like this is NOT good for my mind. I found the following article on the web and thought it was worth sharing-let's just say it's late for FRIDAY FACTS:

That Stupid Bathroom Scale!

"For a man is slave to that which has mastered him!"

Imagine. You wake up one morning after getting the best night's sleep you've had in too long of a time. You feel well rested and your face shows it. In fact, you are pretty sure that you have never looked better (at least not as far back as you can rummage to mind at these wee hours). You got a raise the day before, and a promotion to go along with it. As far as you are concerned, if the Grinche stole Christmas this year, you probably wouldn't even blink twice. Your bills are paid - a month in advance, your entire family adores you, and your friends are fighting over your free days, (o.k., I may be pushing it slightly!). You walk into the bathroom to brush your teeth, when your eyes catch a glimpse of the bathroom scale. Everything is going so great; you can not help but wonder if your luck will continue straight down into the depth of those tiny numbers. What the heck! You pounce onto the scale, this in itself being a major step. Usually your one-toe, followed by the next-toe, followed by the whole foot process takes a good ten minutes! You look down. Wait! Screech! Another screech! This cannot, this mustn't! After all, you hardly ate a thing yesterday. You step off the scale and run over to the toilet, empty your bladder, take off all clothing, even your rings and bracelet. You try it again. You hold your breath this time, thinking that the lack of oxygen will tip the scale in your favor, hopefully before you tip yourself onto the floor! But, it is the same! You step off of the scale, look in the mirror and suddenly your heart sinks, straight into the depths of your stomach. Where did those five extra pounds come from? And as you stand gazing at your naked body in the mirror, you wonder why your stomach looks flatter even though the scale says that you are heavier. That just can't be right! There has got to be something wrong with that stupid scale. After showering you begin trying on clothes for the promotional ceremony being held in your honor. You go through about half of the clothes in your closet, feeling certain that nothing fits right, before setting on something that won't draw too much attention to your body. Gone is the feeling that "you've never looked better;" it has been replaced by a feeling of "life can not get any worse than this!' You consider the option of a sick call, but you somehow muster the strength together and head for the car. You skip breakfast, telling yourself you'll starve your body into submission. By the time you get to work, your head hurts (the effects of a painstaking hunger), and you r mood has been set for the forthcoming day. You are bummed out, so to speak, and low and behold, the first person you see is the skinny little receptionist who smiles ever so sweetly to you from behind the desk, and asks, "Did you do something different to your hair?" You smile smugly, and tell her, "No," but you are certain of what she really meant to ask: "Did you gain weight?" Can you relate to this situation? Although it may not be identical in detail, the feelings described in the opening paragraphs are most likely ones that you have experienced. Why? Because they are commonly felt emotions and feelings! It is important to note that there are millions of people addicted to their scales. They can not let a single day pass without finding out what the little flat box has to tell them. You know you are addicted if you are unable to let a day pass without weighing yourself. Or, when visiting a doctor's office, you ask if you may remove your shoes before weighing in. Chances are, after weighing yourself, this little infamous device determines for you not only what you will or will not be eating for the continuation of the day, but also, how you will feel about yourself. Let me ask you a question. After weighing yourself, has the scale altered your mood, diminished your confidence, or affected your self-esteem? If it has, then GET RID OF IT! Would you stay around a person who made you feel this way about yourself? Hopefully, not for a long period of time. If you can not bring yourself to get rid of the scale, maybe you need to re-think its power over you. "For a man (woman) is slave to that which has mastered him." The scale is similar to a hungry piranha in that it is never satisfied. If it shows a "loss," then it is never a big enough loss. "Just one more pound, or ten more pounds!" On the same hand, if it shows a "gain," then it eats away at your self-esteem and confidence. My friend, how will you ever learn to be happy and content with who you are, if someone or something is always shoving you back down, never allowing you the satisfaction of being, well, satisfied! I've got good news! You do not have to be a slave to your scale any longer! If you feel the need to lose weight, or to get in shape, then great, good for you! Those are positive factors in one's life. And in addition, you have come to the right place, because we want to help you reach those goals. But you must first learn one thing. You must use your clothing, not scale, to gauge your losses. It is up to you to make the decision not to permit the scale to sit crowned as the reigning master over your life.

GET RID OF IT! AND GET FREE!
- You, Too, Shall Overcome

************************

NANCE, CONGRATS! I knew you'd do well on your test-good luck with the next part. You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to doing, if you want it bad enough (hint, hint). Yes, Leslie is going to pop out another one-of course we just want it to be healthy, but it would be nice for them to have a boy-he would carry out the name, otherwise, it stops with her husband. If you can find ZIYAD FALAFEL MIX, get it, it's the best-and for the sauce, it's quite simple-tahini-which I KNOW you have, about 1/3 of a cup, some water and the juice of a couple lemons, garlic and salt, just mash garlic and salt in a bowl, then add tahini, then slowly add a little water and stir, a little lemon juice, stir and continue on til it's a smooth paste and to your liking-that's it! It was yummy!!! LOL-I guess I must have some ME ties in my somewhere! Michael's always on the computer-it's YOU who isn't on much anymore-I'll tell him to pop in on you one day:) How're the kids? Dan?? Dogs? Cats? You??

BOB, I'm sure Eli would love to read any articles you find regarding SB - speaking of which-when are you gonna come visit next? Did you ever get to try the Anniversary Blend?

LINMAE, CONGRATS on the new pants-before you know it, you'll be tossing those new pants aside for 18's! I'm sure you and hubby will be hitting the stores more often as the scale goes down. Glad to see you got in your walking-guess it offset the pizza-wouldn't of happen to of been SB LEGAL would it? I told Eli last night I'd like to make a pizza that we use to sell in our pizzeria that I named THE ZORBA, has no sauce, but brushed with olive oil, middle eastern spices (zahtar, a blend of thyme, sumac, sesame seeds) feta cheese, onion, green pepper, black and green olives and mozzareala-delicious!

THUNDER, sounds like you are having a nice weekend with DH being back home. It's nice to hear a women who has a good relationship with her MIL, I never did with my ex's mother. Thank goodness everyone in Eli's family likes me! Your shrimp sounded yummy-I like shrimp, but rarely make it at home.

JRED, do you keep a journal as well as write poems? You should try to see if you can find interest in someone publishing your works. Michael (son) has been writing for years, is actually writing a sci-fi novel, but hasn't worked on it in a long time-would love to publish it. He loves creative writing and is quite good at it - I'd love for him to get published one day.

MUSIC TEACH, WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!! Of course you can join us-we'd love for you to be a part of our group!! Sounds like you've done well in the weight loss area for being on SB for 2 1/2 months-but why the screw up?? BOB can bring the wagon into Texas and pick you up on her whirlwind tour of the US as she picks up others having a hard time-you can all come to DEBBIE'S DETOX DUNGEON as your last stop! Really, don't be afraid to ask us any questions at all, we're more than happy to help out in any way we can. Let us know a little more about you too-where in East Tex are you from? Again, welcome!!!

KAREN, yes, I am SURE you will get back into the right gear! I do the same things with the socks, use them as dust rags, but geeez, not even I dust that much to have the hundred socks or so that I have in that basket-what the heck am I holding on to them for??? I definintely have a problem with throwing things away-another thing to work on!!!

Time for me to hit the shower and get ready to go. I'll check in with you all this evening.

Please remember, TOMORROW IS MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY so if you have any words of wisdom, and great quotes, any good words, that will help us along our weight loss journey, please, try to post them tomorrow.

ALSO, there will definitely be a chat on Tuesday night at 9:15pm EST as long as the chat room is functioning properly-so please, try to be there-it's been weeks since we had a chat session:)

:D I have the best husband in the world. My a/c died last night and dh went first thing this a.m. and found the wire that had corroded from the elements and fixed it. This the same week as flowers. I think I'll keep him.

Chris-So glad to hear from you! Nice to have a good cry every now & then. How's the feeling in Hawaii? I mean. You are a little island in a very big ocean. Feeling vulnerable there? I bet you're being patrolled by military ships/aircraft right? Some folks there probably still remember Pearl Harbor. Love hearing from you.

Bob-I agee with Nance. You must get back to moviethon even if the pickings are slim. It's Presidents orders!!! Do a classicthon like "An Affair to Remember" and "Casablanca".

Mel-So glad you finally got posted and not "postal". Glad the backs better. I remember all the leaves in PA. PA has to be deciduous tree capital of America. Sunday is my pick day too. No formal meals, a little of this and a little of that. All legal though. Your dd's friends are hysterical. Not shouting down the hall. Your dh is a gem too.

Deb-You and Eli are MFEO. Your chocolate bar description was almost enough to put me off chocolate but then I seriously doubted if chocolate every truly goes bad. Just gets flat. Although I do remember milk chocolate bars that actually separated by the time they got to Okinawa when I was there. It didn't stop me from eating them. :o While we discuss our youngsters. I have at least one extra guest every Saturday nights now and the "usual" horde to converge every Sunday afternoon after church. This has been a pattern for the last 5 weeks. I'm truly not whining--I'd rather have him here than anything else. Just don't get a lot of "quiet" time. The rebounder sounds awesome. The spaghetti was great too. I'll post it on Thursday.

Nance-All right!!!!!! You just let your personality shine at the interview and you'll beat out those other 49 applicants. Tell Faris that Patrick is totally jealous. Thanks for the advice on the tetracycline. Pat doesn't have the cysts just closed comedones that occassionally get inflamed. I guess when puberty goes full bore they'll really become nodular and I will take you up on it. OOOOOhhh Noooo petting dogs requires bending over! Deb wouldn't do that. But inquiring minds now want to see pics. I think we need to get handheld pc's for Froggie right now to post while she's running. I bet she has long runs in now.

Linmae-You are the "incredilble shrinking woman". You Go!!! Two miles is awesome. What's that peeking around the corner? Size 18.

Thunder-So glad the pain is better today. The traffic is easier in the a.m. so I know a lot of troops are gone here too.

Jred-You just keep pumping that poetry out. I'll cry with you.

Musicteach-Isn't this way of eating great? 14 lbs. Welcome Welcome Welcome.

Karen-You keep taking the right step and coming back here. Oooooh love the "sock" dusting idea. I bet you're going to have a fabulous family reunion.

Two things though.

One--Remember the shark attack victim in a coma? He now recognizes his family. Praise God!

Two-I saw a special last night on the women of Afghanistan. The Taliban are truly evil hiding behind a religious veil. I'm going to find out how I can help those people when the Taliban are gone. Not to mention the attrocities they have committed to their own people.

Good afternoon new friends. Hope you are all having a restful Sunday afternoon. Thanks for the great welcome.

As for why I've been not so good lately....who knows?? I haven't felt great and I guess I fell back into my bad eating habits for comfort  I will do better this week! Back to tae-bo tomorrow morning before school and back to a way of eating that makes me feel sooo much better. I really do feel much better physically when I stay legal.

More info about me .... I live in Mt. Pleasant, TX, about 100 miles east of Dallas. I teach music in an even smaller town just down I-30, Mt. Vernon (home of Dandy Don Meredith for you old football fans). I've got a great hubby that I'm trying to get to follow this WOE with no success, three kiddos- 7, 5 and 2.

Again, thanks for the welcome. Gotta go and get ready for choir practice at my church. I am the one and only pianist there, so if I don't show, they don't sing.

Have a great day!!

I reach my goal today! 140!! Horrah for me...I am soooooo excited.

I haven't read all the posts today, have been cooking & cleaning & now it's time to head back to evening worship, but here are just a few replies, will get the rest hopefully when I get back tonight.

BUTTERFLY, Congrats on your 4.5 miles! That's great! Hey, social secretary will sound good on your resume, & it'll be true cause that is a requirement for our children, LOL Listen, about the Author's Choice Sugarbusters brand Angel Hair pasta, I find that the Hodgson Mills brand is exactly the same, ingredients, stats, etc & is quiet a bit cheaper than the Arthor's Choice. Check it out. You should find that brand right next to each other.

Meliris Oh dear, sounds like you may have overdone it a bit yesterday to have that type of stabbing pain today. Hope you take it easy for a couple of days to allow healing. LOL, ok, I'll think of you when I do take those weights out of the box..hehehe. I did find a magazine article on using weights, so I made a copy & plan to try it out soon. You asked about the medication/pain entry to Frog...it was before you joined the board I believe, but here is my story. In June of this year, I developed Trigeminal Neuralgia, which involves the 5th cranial nerve which feeds into the face & gums. Sometimes that nerve gets diseased or damaged. This developed suddenly, causing sharp stabbing like pains into my upper & lower gums & teeth, then I also developed TMJ which you are probably familar with. Anyway, I could not take the first medication the doc put me on, but when I saw the Neurologist, he changed it to amitripyline which has totally taken the pain away. Big relief! Frog is also taking the same medication, but I believe a stronger dose of it for something else & it can cause weight gain. I have not had that problem, as I am continuing to lose. So that is the story behind the statement. :)

Debbie Hey, that rebounder sounds like fun. More fun than the weights. Your Birthday is getting closer, so add as much as you can to that list ;) No kidding, let us know what you decide & how well it works.

Nance, As you can see from my intro in this post, I have made goal. Treat myself? Well, I did actually, I bought some new clothes. A little ahead of time, but I bought a size 8 jean which I wore for the first time last night to a 50-60's night at church & a new dress which I wore for the first time to church this am. So I timed it right! LOL

Hi everyone:)

Well, I have just finished eating my perfectly SB legal dinner. I had rotisserie chicken, salad, coleslaw, cauliflower and peas. My ds picked up the chicken and salad at the restaurant and I prepared the veggies (at least I took them out of the freezer and put them in the microwave). Usually this chicken comes with barbecue sauce and a nice crusty roll (white of course). I was sitting there waiting for him debating in my mind whether I would eat the roll or not. And guess what, he comes home with no rolls. He told the server he didn't want them. So after all I didn't have to make that decision. This guy is stricter on this woe than I am and he doesn't even need to lose weight. I think he is afraid he will end up overweight like his Mom.:D

Lamap - Glad you are enjoying the water aerobics. I've been a few times and it is fun. With the determination you have I am sure you will win the battle with the weight.

Deb - A belated HAPPY 1 1/2 YEARS SUGAR BUSTERS ANNIVERSARY. I know I am a bit late with a comment on the chocolate but I think you should ditch that outdated chocolate and have a bite from one of the others that you have stashed away!:smug: Glad to see the scale is down a pound to-day.

Jred - Loved your poem.

Melf - Congrats on getting down to 141!!!!. I can feel your excitement. I seem to stay at the same weight for months before losing, not weeks, but at least it is beginning to move down again. Have you taken those weights out of the box yet? I have a couple sitting on my dresser which I haven't touched since last winter. I think it is time I started using them again. I've just read your last post as I was finishing this so CONGRATULATIONS ON REACHING GOAL. That's wonderful and enjoy wearing those new clothes.

Nancemeister - Congrats on the test results. I'm sure you will do just as well with the test tomorrow then you can WOW them at the interview.

Fillise - Hope you make it to the High School reunion. It should be fun.

Solshine - How are you doing with the job search?

LinMae - Doesn't it feel good when you go down a size. Don't worry about those two pieces of pizza. What is done is done. Just concentrate on getting right back on track and getting in plenty of water.

Music teach - Hi and welcome. 14 pounds in 2 1/2 months is a great start.

Karen 3000 - Thanks for the hint with the socks. Should make dusting much easier. I just have to look for some old ones. Don't usually have strays now the kids are grown and my ds usually buys a dozen the same color.

Deb - I loved the scale article. It really hits the nail on the head for many of us.

Fly - I didn't see that tv special on Afghanistan but I have read a few articles about the way they treat there women and it's really atrocious. Apart from not being able to go to school or work they are not even allowed to be examined by a male doctor and women doctors and nurses aren't allowed to work anymore. Which means absolutely no healthcare. It's hard to believe how such a group can control a country.

BOB - I like the motto at the end of your post. It's exactly what my sister used to say to me when I was a teenager (She eats to live but I live to eat.) The reason I am where I am to-day!

Hi to Meliris, Thunderwoman, Frog, Rhroo, Gator, Chris and anyone else I may have missed.

Have to get in the kitchen and clean up the mess before settling down to watch tv.

Bye for now.

Marie.

Debbie--I was really surprised to see the article on the scale was posted by YOU!! I just had to laugh. It was a great article and hopefully it will help free us up a little bit. Maybe WIW should be the ONLY day some of us weigh, because I agree that the scale can be a controlling monster.

Melf--CONGRATULATIONS!!!! That is wonderful that you reached goal and I know you are very proud of your accomplishment. We are doing the happy dance with you.

Welcome to all the new gals. This is a great board.

Struggled a bit today. We went to Olive Garden where a friend had her birthday party. It was pretty hard finding anything on the menu that was SB legal. I found veal marsala, which turned out to be really good. I had that, the salad and steamed broccoli. However, I also had a bit of cake. They brought the cake from a local store and since there was just a small group, I didn’t want to cause any notice, so took a piece and “nibbled” at it, leaving all the frosting and some of the cake. It was impossible to count calories, as was dinner tonight that we also had out. So, I’m just trying to stick closely to plan, but can say that it definitely is easier when we don’t go out.

BOB--We end up playing you guys Dec. 1. I guess that will be “dessert.” LOL
I am pretty sure we will be cancelling our trip to N.O. for the LSU game. We will lose a little money on our plane tickets, but will end up saving more money by not going. With the market the way it is, and so many people we know who will be losing their jobs, we are thinking we should put our money to better use. We still plan to go to the Auburn game, but we will drive up to Calloway instead of flying. We figured it would take us just as long to fly when you count the airport waiting, etc. etc. than it would for us to drive. That trip won’t cost anywhere near as much.

SolShine--We watched part of the MSU game. My condolences. We were surprised. The bulldogs come to the Swamp next weekend. And we really enjoyed watching the action up at UNC. Any Tarheels on this board. Great game!!!

BTW. I am still having trouble with this new setup with the board. When I click on reply, instead of it taking me to the "reply page" I get a page that tells me that I am not logged in, which is not true. I then have to log in for the second time with password and all. Do you know anything about this,Debbie? Also, what is the difference between "subscribing" and "registering" on 3FC?

Well, I’m gonna go study some French. We have our third test this Wed. and each lesson gets a little harder.

Hi Gals!

Here's a quickie, because for some odd reason, it kills my neck and incision to sit at the computer. I must be stretching something that doesn't want to be stretched right now. Anyways, I'm scanned the posts and wanted to assure you all that I am coming along nicely. Feeling much better today. No pain medicine at all today. Yippee!!! SEeing the doctor on Tuesday. Hope I get the go ahead from him to resume normal lifestyle.

Hey, MELF . . . WAY TO GO!!!! I'm so excited for you!!!!!!!!! What a great way to celebrate the weekend at your goal. What's the first thing you are going to reward yourself with . . . new pair of pants??? Jewelry???? Just don't let it be a hot fudge sundae!

Better go. I'll be home most of the week and hopefully will have a more cooperative neck. Take care. Thanks again foir all your thoughts and prayers.

Evening All:wave:

Thought I'd try and get in as much of a post as I can before my parents come for a visit, then whatever I don't finish now, will hopefully finish later.

Went for lunch at Ole Ole, delicious, as always. Eli pissed me off at the mall though, told him I was going to the bathroom, he disappears, after going through Spiegel 3 times, I finally found him-he does this a LOT and knows it drives me crazy, yet continues to do it-men, they're cracked up to be more than they are:rolleyes: Didn't feel like staying there after this episode, so we left. So, he's on the doo-doo list for the rest of the day! Went for a Carbolite afterwards, one of my fav. flavors-mint-it was delicious! Didn't take him off the doo-doo list though:s:

Lauren came home excited today. They went to Gameworks and Michael was playing a game and got caught his shirt on the handle and was pulling at it and sorta came off a little hard and knocked into a guy sitting and playing a game close by, thank goodness the guy was able to catch himself before he fell. Michael looks at him and realizes it's JOEY from NSYNC-he ran to tell Lauren, who of course went gaga! She got his autograph on a napkin and couldn't of been happier.

FLY, at least your hubby is on the good list! Good that he knows how to fix the a/c-a true handyman I guess:) MFEO, you had me for a minute on that one, today though, I'm not quite sure (can you tell I'm on the warpath??). Okay, so you knew I'd be down today-care to give me tomorrow's prediction so I can either be in a good/bad mood before I even step on the scale?? Just cross those little fingers, toes, eyes, and anything else that can be cross for me!!

BOB, how'd the chicken come out? Did your BJ'S carry the 75% reduced fat cheese? Sounds like you had a good time spending some dough today:) Don't worry, your stuff is safe here-it's all nicely put in a Starbucks bag, away from the garage sale stuff. Which brand of falafel mix did you buy? I made some more tonight-delicious!!!!

MUSIC, whatever may of been bothering you to eat off plan, put it behind you and start anew tomorrow-no matter what we have bothering us, we THINK food will make us feel better, but that euphoric state we get when we eat something that does make us feel good is just like a junkie getting his fix and as soon as the "drug" wears off, we feel like dookie again! Maybe DH will join you later on, once he sees you doing a disappearing act. Eli has no desire to do SB with me, but would love it if he would.

MELF!!!! CONGRATS!!!! WOO HOO!!! http://members.aol.com/debelli/woo_hoo.jpg I'm so thrilled and delighted to hear such wonderful news!!!! So, what's next????

ROSALIE, dinner sounds yummy-actually, every time you post a meal you've had-they all sound yummy. You must be one helluva cook! I know, you didn't cook this one up, but it still sounded yummy! Oops, too late on ditching that outdated chocolate, already had a piece yesterday, and one this evening-I can't ditch anything-waste not want not!!

GATOR, glad you got a laugh about me posting the scale article-oh, I did see myself in there a time or two. After the New Year, I will only weigh in on WIW!! Not sure on the subscribing and registering, never paid attention to that, but you may want to see if your profile needs to have you being automatically logged in, it may of changed when the board changed.

QUILTER, {{{HUGS}}} Thanks for letting us know you're doing better!!!!

Gotta go to bed, Eli has work at 5am, have to take the kids to school and get in my walk, then will post on the new weekly board.

Oh yes, he's only half on the doo-doo list now! LOL!

NITE!
