Carb Counters - Weekly Chat- September 25-October 1st

Well, another week is beginning. I can't wait for the weekend. Going on the marriage "refresher"/retreat w/ DH and some couples from our church. Well, it's mainly just couples from our church. But it should be a blast! Eating won't be OP due to lack of options--but I'll worry about that again next week. Just doing my best this week. Did make mistakes yesterday. Mainly because I mixed m&m's, peanuts and raisins. Did I mention I LOVE that mixture? Anyway, had a bowl full of it. At least I didn't grab the WHOLE bag I had mixed up. So that's a good thing. And I also know now that I don't even need THAT much to fill the sweet tooth. I'm thinking a handful would do if I TRULY needed something sweet. TOM has been messed up so it's messing with everything---including my appetite. I'm now hungry a lot more. Liked it better when I was hardly hungry;) Anyway, already have a glass (16 OZ) of water in and should be able to make the daily requirement. So that's a success.

Well, this seems to happen to me every time I get into this woe. After about 3 weeks, I do something that depletes my energy completely, and I feel like crap for a few days. I really dont know who to fix this. But I truly think it has to be a change in my diet. Because I just dont feel good kwim? Im still thinking on it.

The sun is shining today, and I think I'll get out into the back garden and get that mess cleaned up. Im still picking tomatoes :lol: I dont want any more tomatoes :eek: I think Im going to have to make soup or something to use up the 30some tomatoes I have in the fridge :lol3:

Starting over again guys. I could just kick myself. I have gained 5 pounds in 4 days of being off program. I hate TOM. The cravings are unbearable!!! My stomach hurts and part of me feel like what is the POINT!!! With that out of my system, I am off to start 4 days of induction as per the manual for when one cheats. Why can't I do this woe?

I did the same darn thing again. Was having massive chocolate craving and made the no-bake cookies. I had several yesterday and finished the last 3 this morning for breakfast with my coffee. I'll be back on 20 carbs a day now for the week to offset any gain. I will never learn my lesson. When it comes to chocolate, I have no control. My other eating is totally on-program and I am improving my water intake. I need a kick in the butt.
MsChris, I'll be right there with you on that induction plan for a while.
Brenda, I hope the marriage retreat was fun, it sounds like it would be.
Robin, sorry to hear you are having a rough time, it happens to the best of us. I feel like it would be hipocritical of me to hand out advice at this point as I can't even control myself.
Lets all make a pact to see how many no-cheat days we can do.

Totally off-topic but at 5AM this morning my DH got up to let my labrador out to the bathroom. DH came back to bed, and I was thinking , OMG did he forget to wipe his butt, he stinks. It took a couple minutes to realize that it was the smell of a skunk. I heard the dog barking like crazy. It was totally hilarious. Apparently the skunk was on the deck and sprayed when DH opened the door and it got the scent on him. He went and bathed with tomato juice prior to going to work. I told him what my original thought was and he laughed hysterically. ROFL.

Good Morning Ladies

Over the weekend winds have died down,and it quite on the western front. Leo & I are going down to the beach to get our walking done.

Have to go out and buy my grandkids their Birthday cards. We already sent my DD a check to buy the toys they want. As were not going down to celebrate their birthdays this year.Halloween is another matter that I shop for in two weeks.

Well as of yesterday I down another pound,so that makes 2 for Sept Goal 2 more to go.

Blew it last night. Had a couple stuffed peppers...then ended up feeling sick to my stomach. Jeesh, you'd think I'd learn by now!! Well, back at it today!
DH shot a deer last night and couldn't find it in the dark. He's taken the day off today to look for it. If he doesn't find it ina little while he's going to call me....and I'll have to tromp around and help look for it. Luckily it hasn't rained so the trail should be somewhat easy to follow. We'll see :)

Sorry that I post a chat for the week of 9/25-10/1 I didn't see that we had one,when I got on the thread early yesterday morning. I should have waited. Please disregard mine and use this one.

We are going to have another beautiful sunny day,going to take advantage and walk along the beach.We getting excepted about our cruise its only 2 months as of today we leaving on 11/26. They say that you can carry small travel size liquids on board,but they must be in a zip loc bag,in your carry ons..I'm sure the rules will change by the time we're scheduled to go.

Robin-Oh :sorry: thats ashame, that your changing your diet.Do you have any idea what causing you to feel less energized . Maybe you're not eatting enough?
We just picked our last croup of green tomatoes from the vine. We're going to try to brown bag them,for ripening,and if that doesn't work we have a recipe for green fried tomatoes.

Ms Chris-Don't:no: have the answer to TOM as I don't have him visting anymore. Did you ever think of having more protein or fat to your diet. That usually stops :rollpin: the craving for me. Last week I was craving some sweets that was on a commerical and I took a tbs of Peanutbutter and with in minutes the craving was gone.

Lilybelle-Thats so funny:rofl: about your hubby. We had a dead skunk in our basement window well and did he stink. It tooks days to find & depose of him.

Have a question for all: :?: :?: When you eat something off-program,how many days does it take you to get back into ketos?????????? I'm on the owl of the program, do you go back to the induction of 20 gr carbs ??????????

Well, I think I have discovered why I have no energy! Im sick! I seem to have caught what my dh has...only worse. I have the sore throat to go with it. :p

Brenda~ I hope he finds it.....remember if your freezer gets too full this season, Id be more than happy to take some of that meat off your hands ;)

BB~ Im going to wait until this "whatever it is" clears up, and I'll give it another go. If it is truly my diet, I'll switch to lowercarb weight watchers. (But I'll still stick around here ;)

Lily~ too funny .....did he ever get all the smell off of him?

Thats it for me, Im off to figure out how to set up our table for the trade show. (Oct 11th....we will be in our first trade show) Im amazed at the amount of work! I'll post pics in my blog after can take a look if care to.

Good morning everyone. I can still smell the skunk smell in the first half of my house. At least it missed the dog, so she smells fine. I hate to bathe her because she loves the water so much that I can't get her out.
My DH came home sick from work yesterday. Very swollen lymph glands and fever. I tried to take him to the doctor, but he refused. I think he'll regret this and eventually go. He absolutely hates going to doctors. I know he needs antibiotics, but he won't listen.
Brenda, hope you find the deer. I'm probably the only female here that loves to deer hunt. I use a crossbow or a rifle. Season opens here the end of October. I have my own tree stand and everything. I haven't ever got one yet, I have missed two of them. My DH always gets one.
BB, I have a 20yr. old son that loves fried green tomatoes. I make them for him sometimes. Here you can't buy the tomatoes green unless you get them at a Farmers Market. I also find that 1 Tablespoon of Peanut Butter will satisfy the sweets craving at times and tide me over when I need a boost of energy.

Robin, we were trying to post at the same time. Hope you feel better soon. My DH has a very sore throat too. He did get the skunk smell off of him.
I get my new brace for my leg tomorrow at 2PM, I hope it helps my mobility.

BB, when I eat off program it takes me generally 48 hrs. to get back in ketosis.

Good Morning Ladies:)

Well another day,won't be able to get my walking in this morning as we are waiting for the gas man to replace the corroded pipes in the back of our house. One of the owner painted the pipes several years ago with regular paint. Now the gas pipes are peeling and rusty.The STUPID person was TOLD not to paint them,but did he listen,no.If we have a leak GA-BOM!! We'd be gone,all of us in this building.This man is a total idiot,didn't he think that he putting us all in this bldg in danger.Other than that everything is OK.

I think I'm in ketosis,as I have a horrable breath this morning Yuke!! I need some mints.

Lilybelle-Sorry about your hubby coming down with swollen lump glands.It one thing when the kids get it,but when adults get it its worse. Hope hes feeling better soon. Boy this thread is slow this morning.

BB, hope those gas pipes get fixed quickly. Sometimes men do some really dumb things. I had an XH that replaced the shower tiles in my upstairs shower with tiles that weren't water proof.(They were lg. ceramic tiles that were made for a floor). This caused a huge leak when shower was used a few times and I thought the tub was going to fall through the ceiling and into my kitchen floor that was directly beneath it. I had to have a handyman service come and redo it all. Costed a bundle to repair.

Glad to hear you are back in ketosis.

I have great news about my left foot, last night for the first time in 2 months, I can wiggle my toes just a little. This means there is nerve regeneration starting to occur. I can't wait to have improved mobility again.Yeah, I get my new foot brace today.

My eating is on program again and I am feeling pretty good.

DH is still sick. He had a fever all night last night and very clammy skin. He hasn't went to the doctor, he went to work instead.

Having computer issues so won't make it online long. We didn't find the deer. Spent hours (and I mean HOURS) looking for it and lost all trail of it. We're thinking it hit the river and got swept away. No sight or sign of it. DANG! Eating was OP and I even got in TONS of exercise (amazing how tiring searching for deer sign is!!) yesterday. As I was trailing for 3-4 hours my legs are trashed today!! Ok. Going to figure out what's wrong w/the computer. :wave: if I'm MIA for a few days you'll all know why!!

Hi everyone
I havent been posting, just reading other people's posts. I'm still frustrated, but I guess not enough to start excercising, becasue I still havent done that.
As it is I do Aikido three times a week and go for an occasional walk but obviously that is not enough.
Tommorrow is the end of my third week on induction and I still havent lost a pound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have completely stayed on plan but to no avail. I think perhaps the issue here is that Ive already hit a plateau. I dont have a lot of weight to lose and Ive already lost about 10 pounds since my last high weight in January (not on Atkins). I had been stuck at this same weight for a couple f months and thought I would try atkins to see if that would help me get off the last 10 lbs or so.
I guess that extra weight is just being stubborn!! According to Atkins plan I since I didnt lose weight I shold cut my carbs even more to about 10g per day.. but I really cant do that right now. Maybe in a few months I would have the will power to go that extreme.
so I decided instead that I will go off the plan and although I will avoid some simple carbs, I am going to add other whole grain carbs and fruit to my diet and really try to excercise.
I hope that makes me feel better and healthier... I just hope I can find the willpower to excercise! :carrot:
Anyway, I probably wont be on here very often..maybe I'll pop in to say hi sometimes.. all you chicks have been a great inspiration to me and have truly helped me to keep going the short time Ive been here.

I have to make this fast as Leo and I have lots to do this morning.Just wanted to let you know that I'm here and didn't get lost in the shuffle. I had a bad night sleeping with Leo snoring all night long and I findly get to sleep around 6 in the morning until now[10 A.M.]

Our gas compnay came and he scraped the pipes and painted them with rustolium.Now I now afraid of going ka-boom.

Will post later when things are not so hectic.

Ok so I think I have finally hit rock bottom with the whole "weight loss" ordeal. I think I am severely depressed about it. I have to do something. So this is my last try and then I dont know what. I am going to restart atkins tomorrow cause I have to go grocery shopping tonight to get the right kind of food. I dont know where else to turn except to you guys for support. So tomorrow will be induction day 1. I know that i can do this, i just have to stick with it long enough to get through the 1st 2 weeks. I am back up to a size 16. My goal is 10. I have to do this guys. I know i can. Please help me.

Im on the mend...feeling so much better than a couple days ago. My lung capacity isnt quite what it should be, so I'll get back to my walking slowly. I'll start back on induction tomorrow morning, and see how it goes. I dont want to start today because I still want my soup and toast (my magic cure :lol: ) .....hey did you know if you add curry to your soup it clears out everything :lol3:

ilovemike, it's good to see you . You are inspiration for me, that is for sure. You kick my booty every time with the exercise. You can do this, I know you can. Glad to see you are getting started again.
Myself, I have days that I try real hard, other days that aren't so good. I kicked butt last week and dropped 5 lbs. that I had gained, this week, I'm back up 3 lbs. after having cookies. Guess I'll be losing this again now. Every time I get down to 140 lbs., I give myself permission to cheat, and of course, gain weight. I should learn better, but I'm a slow learner I guess. I definitely push my 5 lb. range limit and test myself . Maintenance is just as difficult as losing, since I'm constantly trying to re-lose the same few lbs.

Thanks guys for the info on the Peanut Butter - is it like Jiff or is it sugar free? I think I will try it. I am still not back in Ketosis and I have been doing the eggs, chicken and chicken broth. I made sure that the broth had 0 carbs. Oh well it will come. I am back down to 179, so I think even with my going off program it was mostly water weight gain.

Lilly - how funny about the skunk. Glad it didn't get the dog. Hope your hub is better. Yay! Lilly - I see exercise in your horizon.

BB - glad you are back in ketosis. I drink peppermint tea when my breath gets that way. I can normally drink a weak tea unsweetened, or I will put a couple of drops of peppermint essential oil in my large water bottle. It really masks the smell and you emanate peppermint which is great for kissing hub.

I'm back again, got everything done what we had to do. Have to get some walking done this afternoon,as I didn't have time for that this morning.

Going to have to sing at the seniors ice cream social tomorrow. We're a group of 20 singers that sing for the senor center socials & our local nursing homes.Have to wear long black skirt and white blouse for the events.

Sandra-Like Robins says we're:hug: here for you. Don't:nono: quit,we all have the same problem,no matter what program we're on. Thats Life and you must not let it get you down. Start with the induction as walla you'll be :goodscale:lossing again.

I need a good swift kick, so everybody give me one. We ate out tonite and I was again really bad. Shared a dessert with DH. I don't know what has gotten into me. Why now, I have worked so hard and must get back with the program. Tomorrow is a new day and I will go back to 20 carbs again for the zillionth time.

The cookies were bad enough, but at least I made them semi-LC with splenda and cocoa, Oats and butter and nuts. Better than last time when I made them with chocolate chips which have a lot more carbs. Plus, I made a lot fewer of them so there was not some hanging around for days to snack on. Still not the best when trying to keep the weight off , but less damaging than what I ate tonite, that is for sure.

We're having crazy weather up here today. Suppose to have terrible thunder storms that blewn out to sea,& now it back again.YIKE!!!I'm going out to our senor center for our monthy ice cream social. Of course I can't have any,being on Atkins. Can't believe I'm up on the scale this morning and I have no idea:idea: where is coming from. I returned back on my food journal and I don't see anything wrong.I'm not involved with TOM anymore so that out.The only thing I see is I'm up to 30 grams of carbs. Maybe I should lower them for the next several days as I W-I on Sunday. What do you think??????

I am starting to think that every time I eat a big TBSP of Peanut Butter, that I start craving sweets really bad. Not sure if this makes sense or not, but I am seeing a trend with it. I will do a great job with LC all day, have some PB and go crazy for chocolate. I am going to try to just not buy PB for a while and see if this helps.
BB, thanks for the kicks and the smack on the head, I need them. Personally, I think part of my problem is that every time I hit 140 on the scale, I think "I'm 5 lbs. below my goal and it won't hurt anything" then I eat off program (always sweets, not regular foods) and gain back up to my goal. I kick my butt in gear, lose it again and then do it again. It's like I give myself permission to cheat as long as I stay in that 5lb. range, but being out of that range would be unforgiveable for me.

My meals for the day are now done. I stayed perfectly on program today. I am now on my 3rd large glass of water. Soon to see if my ankle can withstand 5 min's walking on the treadmill .

Hi all.
I've been away for a while again and I'll tell ya, I really should try to post everyday here. It makes a big difference for me. It's kind of like out of sight out of mind. This site is the only thing keeping me going at this point! I'm stil lso frustrated.
I think I'm going to take the weekend to re-read the book and restart induction. My body just seems to have gotten really comfortable where it's at. I, on the other hand, am not. I don't want to give up yet. I really, really, really, want to lose about 15 more pounds.

Lillybelle - I knowwhat you mean about feeling like you can splurge whenyour under goal. (even though I"m not under goal) I sometimes think, hey, I'm doing pretty good, this won't hurt. Then this turns into this, that and the other thing!
I hope your ankle is well soon so that you can exercise with me again! I've even stopped posting that! PS I'll have to owe you that kick in the butt. I amposting only a quick reply and can't access the butt kicker! Don't worry, I'm good for it!

Mealybug - I know just what you mean. Sometimes it just seems pointless to go on since nothing is happening. I haven't lost in 2 months! I feel like I"m in a battle with myself and I'm gonna win!!!

Beach bum - yep, you should probably lower those carbs. At least that would be my guess! I would go back to induction levels and then s-l-o-w-l-y increase until you you either see a gain or plateau.

MsChris - funny, peanutbutter is usually my saving grace.(or at least I used to think so!) when ever I needed a snack 1 tsp would give me a good fix. but then again, I haven't lost any weight in 2 months so I guess I better rethink that logic!
Well, see I feel so much better when I post! I feel like I'm back in the game again!
Have a great weekend all. I'm busy with soccer games and birthday parties for my kids friends. I think I'm going to go to the game dressed to run so that I can do a few laps around the track while they are playing. It's funny how guilty I feel when I just sit aroung now. Last week Isat there looking at that big empty ftrack and thought I could be running that right nowinstead of sitting here with my coffee! So that's my goal for tomorrow!

The new brace was causing some swelling in my foot tonite, so I didn't try to get on the treadmill. I will try tomorrow. My body needs some exercise, I feel like a slug.

Ok guys so I made it through day one of induction. My plan is to stay on induction till I hit 200lbs. I know someone had the idea before and i think it will work for me. Then once i get to 200 then i will reintroduce fruit, but slowly. I contacted my recruiter today and we had a long talk and he sort of picked me up and i dusted myself off and then he gave me a good swift kick in the a$$ (not literally of course) I think it was exactly what I needed. So I made it and I am just going to take it a day at a time. Starting Monday I am going to have to hit the gym again. I have been good about sodas and havent one in 2 days, so maybe things are starting to look up for me. I am just not going to jump the gun. I even had a salad for lunch today which is rare for me. I usually skip on veggies. So here we go! Oh and i dont think I said it, but my goal right now is 170lbs cause that is what i have to get to to be able to join the air force. I know this is the weekend and this is the hardest time for me, so I will stay strong and keep on track.

Ok guys so last night I took some medicine that caused my blood sugar to drop way low and i had to have a very small glass (less than 8oz.) to pull my levels up quick. I was pretty mad about it cause i did so well yesterday, but it wasnt my fault so i am not coming down on myself for it. I picked up right where i left off and I am still OP.

ilovemike, I used to have problems with my blood sugar bottoming out quite often and would have drink a sugary drink or something quick. I take glucophage now and this doesn't happen to me anymore. I am glad that you got your levels back up and are still on program.
My weight gain these last few days had to be water weight. I drank lots of water yesterday and flushed my system out. Today the scale is back down 4 lbs. from the 3 lb. gain that I had. I am happy with this. I am going to try to drink a lot of water today too and stay on program with my eating. I had 16 carbs yesterday and no salt and it helped so much. I am back in my comfort zone, so I will try my best to maintain and not screw up again.

Good Afternoon Ladies

It was quite COLD this morning but I did manage to walk along the beach. We were kept busy this morning, having a handyman come to fix our woodrot on our sliding door window frame and several other spots. Than hes going to paint the frames after there fixed. We get very bad no'easters that hit our side of our townhouse and the wood is badly weather beaten.

Tonight I cooking light just roasted turkey with veggies.Don't have an appetite,hope I'm not coming down with something. Sometime with the weather changing could cause the blahz also.

Lillybelle!- Oh Happy day, you're losing 4 lbs today maybe I'll lose the 2 I gained today by Mondays W-I. Big congrat :cheer: on your 4 lbs down.

Ilovemike-Great goals,I sure you'll make it this time around.My doctor told me he stay on the induction for 3 months,theres when he lost the most weight.We'll always be here for you. I just started the Atkins diet 1 1/2 months ago,and I have found this WOE real easy. I up to 25-30 carbs and loving it. Don't crave anymore like I used to.i'm still afraid to add fruit as it made me gain in the last diet I was on. My doc told me I'm very carb senstive.So I'll stay away from fruituntil later in the diet.

Thanks BB, while I was still trying to lose weight , I weighed only once or twice a week. Now that I am on maintenance I weigh every day or every other day. This way, any gain can be quickly dealt with. Part of my problem is that I have slight Congestive Heart Failure and am very prone to fluid retention. If I have a big gain, it is usually water weight and comes off the next day. A slow gain of a lb. here or there is what worries me most as it isn't usually water and requires some time to get it back off. I had asked the others in maintenance about their goal weights before. My range that I chose is 5 lbs. below my goal and many of theirs is 5 lbs. above their goal. So, ultimately I'm trying to stay closer to 140 than 145. Oh well, as long as I'm below goal, I'm happy.

I don't know how, but I am down to 176 this morning!! YAY!!! I hope it stays so low. I am not even in Ketosis, so I don't know how I lost, but I sure am glad I did. I don't know why I am not in ketosis. I am eating 2 eggs and 3 slices of bacon for breakfast. I am eating chicken broth for dinner and either a taco salad or an atkins shake for lunch depending on time. Once or twice a week I am having baked chicken and broccoli. I am drinking plenty - plenty - of water. Any ideas guys?

hey there guys. Ok so here is what is going on. Me and my husband have decided to call it quits. I have a lot on my plate right now, but I am not giving up. I am still Op and plan to stay that way. thank god this is not a ugly divorce and we are going to remain friends. Just wanted to get that off my chest. I still have my same goals in mind and nothing has really changed. So just wanted to give you guys a update. i did a lot of crying today, but had no desire to cheat or run to food. That is huge for me. Well I am gonna get some sleep. Catch up with you guys tomorrow.

MsChris, are you using the strips to know that you aren't in ketosis? It sure seems like you would be. Either way the scale is going down, so you know that your way of eating is working. Congratulations.
iloveMike, sorry to hear of what you are going through. HUGS. Take care of yourself and keep us posted. I am happy that you are staying focused on your goal. It must be hard but you can beat this battle . Wishing you the best of success.

I have managed to drink a gallon of water daily for 2 days and can't stay out of the bathroom for more than 10 minutes. I also take diuretics which make it even worse.

ok guys so i was curious this morning so i measured my "inner tube" that wraps around above my waist and i am down 1.5 inches after 2 days. I know that i need to step up my water and i will but i was so excited and i had to share.

yeah you know the timing just isnt right. i know that we will be back together again someday, but right now we just need to take some time off. we are best friends and we still love eachother, we just have to find why we fell in love in the first place. But anyways, we are going to go see our parents today and it is going to be a family day. So i will check in later. By the way, my real name is Sandra.

Sandra - Sorry to hear about whats going on with you, however, you do seem to be handling things well. It takes a lot of guts to realize that a break may be needed and to act on it. Hopefully it will be jsut what you guys needed and will manage to find your way back to each other. For now put all your focus on YOU. It sounds like you are doing really well! 1.5 inches is great! keep it up!

MSChris - You know, those ketosis sticks never worked for me and I have heard that from many other people. If you are following the plan the way you say, then just keep going with it. You're losing the weight and thats the key. I'm sure you ARE in ketosis.

BB - way to go sticking to the plan and exercising! Hope your feeling good!

Lillybelle - Wow. great job with the water! I am so happy thatI have become so dependant on it now. I can't go without it as when before, I had to force it down!

Sandra - sorry to hear about your relationship. Congratulations on the inches lost. I think it is great that you are on a woe you can stick to even through adversity. It is a great motivator to me.

Lily - yes I am using the strips every morning. Seeing the dark red strip was a huge reward to me. It let me know when I am off track, and when I should be losing inches. This morning I was a little darker than trace, so I am getting there. Way to go on your water intake, btw.

Maggie - maybe I shouldn't be putting too much stock in the strips. When you say it didn't work for you, what do you mean? Great reading you btw. Are you sticking to program? Has the scale budged? I know 2 months is a long time. How are your measurements?

Hi Ladies:)

Just got back from our Sunday Brunch,and I looking for food again.We're going to get a storm brewing close to us as it geting very dark up here.Glad I didn't decide go shopping after brunch or I be driving in the middle of the storm.

Maggie-Thanks,but I was feeling ok I just didn't want to eat last night.Had a lite supper of meat & veggies.Today I fell like I eat like a horse. Have to control myself,as W-I is tomorrow and the other day I was up 2 lb.

Lilybelle-Thank for the congrats, hopefully I will earn it.

Hi everyone, I'm back from the day of yard work. I actually push mowed the front lawn for 1 hr. then used a riding mower on the rest of the 5 acres, then mowed my Aunt's yard next door. I like to mow, we used to own our own lawn care business. My DH cut down a large tree and chopped us down lots of fire wood and he did the weed-eating. I am really tired now, so see you all tomorrow.
