Wow. My first new thread! EVER!

I decided to start a measurement thread as a way to track progress when the scale is getting me down. I thought about just doing "inches lost", but it feels more honest (although embarassing) to put up all the #s. Feel free to join in any way you like!

Bailey - wow, scarey thought (sharing my measurements, that is). Do you check yours every 2 weeks then? I've been trying to do it once a month. I may post them . . .

Rabbit,

I just started keeping track on Sept 1st. I was going to do once a month, but I was "mad at the scale", so I decided to do it after only 2 weeks. Fortunately, the results were good:) I do think that I will go to just doing them on the first of the month though, as I don't think there is generally that much of a change if you do it too often. Better to do it less and when you are done feel :D.

As far as posting the #'s, it is scarry. But the more scarry thing is the size of my butt!!! I was considering just putting Waist = -.5, etc., but thought I may as well "hang it all out there"
May decide to edit this, though...

You know, I've been meaning to take my measurements for a long time...maybe now's a good time to do it?! Have to dig out the measuring tape!

OK, when trying on clothes this week, I must have just been picking "baggy" things, because although the 10's fit, these measurements have me at about a perfect size 12!

It does sound scary to take your mesurements, I don't know the last time I did that. I don't even think I have a tape measure - any idea where I could get one cheap. I do think it's a great way to track progress other than the scale. I think you can tell just by how your clothes fit but I like to see numbers change.

Is there any trick to it. How do you know your measuring in the right spot and that you're not just pulling the tape tighter?? Might seem like dumb questions but that's probably what I'd do.

Hey OntarioAngel thanks for posting! You have done great!

Elisa: I would suggest you go to lands end's website. They have a virtual model program which allows you to build a model and tells you how to measure. I will post my models if I can figure out how!

Hey,

To avoid confusion, the Land's End catalogue uses the same model So use www.mvm.com unless shopping for land's end clothes!

Ontario - a size 8! How awesome.:)

I did my measurements on 10/14 and then again on 11/1 (or 11/2, can't remember) after seeing this thread. I lost 1.25 inches in that time.:smug:

Bailey,
It's too funny that you have this post and brought it forward today. I took my first set of measurements on 1/27 and have been trying not to sneak a peek until 2/28 but I couldn't wait any longer -- I can feel my clothes getting looser.

Last night I did a quick check and found that in two weeks I've lost a total 4 inches in five areas. It's made me so excited today I haven't wanted to eat. I even tried on the black jeans that are for my next major goal and I'm thinking I'll be able to wear them in two weeks. Last time I put them on I got them zipped up but my gut was hanging over so bad I knew I wasn't ready for them. Last night I was able to comfortably zip them with only a small bulge showing. Yippeee!!! This really has me super motivated.

I'll try and remember to get my measurements and post them tomorrow. It'll be great to compare them with you because I'm close to your size -- 5'3" 162.

Lizzard - I would LOVE to have company here! As I have stated in other places, I am a researcher by trade, so I wanted to give you the "stats" before you make comparisons.

1. I have no boobs. Really, once in college (weight 113), I was in a big baggy shirt and told my friend I had no boobs. She was saying that couldn't be true. I said "no look" and pulled my shirt back. She said "OMG, you're right!" They get bigger when I am heavier (I even once bought a B cup!), but they are SMALL - ever seen Will & Grace?

2. I am "bigger boned" from the waist down, "smaller boned" from the waist up and have a VERY big head.

3. I have scoliosis. They estimate that if my back were straight I would be 5'6. I had surgery to help straighten my back, so I also have a metal rod in my back. This doesn't make a big difference, but probably makes me look slightly smaller than my weight indicates (5 lbs or less).

4. I am not really 5'3", I AM 5'4 AND A QUARTER!

Wow - Don't that make me sound attractive???:D

Here goes.....

03-01-02
Weight: 150 at WI 2/26, 147 home scale 2/28 & 2/30 (-8?) = -12.?
Height: Haven't measured lately, but guessing 5'3"
Neck:13.25 (-.25) = -.25
Bust: 36 (-1) = -2.5
Ribs: 31 (-.75) = -2
Waist: 31 (-1) = -3.5
Hips: 40 (-1) = -2
Forearm : 10.25 (-.25) = -.5
Upper arm: 12 (-.5) = -1.75
Thigh: 24.5/23.5 (-1/-.5) = -2.25/-2.25
Calf: 15/15 (+.25/+.25) = -.5/-.0
Total lost: 14.75

Really not sure the exact accuracy of this whole thing, but everything seems to be moving along (except I may be turning into no-neck-tree-trunk-calf-girl

Have calculations wrong along the way, but my total losses are now correct.

Be back on 3/15!

Your starting measurments are almost exact to my starting ones, though my start waist was 30" but the rest are the same as you.

How much weight did you have to loose to get to the new measurments? I'm Most concerned about my bust measurment because my boobs are a huge D cup, I hate them I can't run, I can't jump, I have to wear a size larger dress because of my boobs alone, I can't sleep on my belly, guys stare at me like perves, it's impossible to find a cute bra, I have to wear baggy tops to keep them hidden, I have broken blood vessels because they are so heavy, it's living **** to me. :(

I would do just about anything to loose a size there. What kind of cardio excercise did you do to loose that bra size?

LBH

OK, I got measured last night, so here's my measurements:

Starting 2/7/02
Bust - 49 1/2
Waist - 42 1/2
(at belly button)
Hips - 53
Thighs - 24
Arms - 14 1/2

3/13/02
Bust - 48 1/2 (-1")
Waist - 43 (+1/2")
(at belly button)
Hips - 51 (-2")
Thighs - 23 1/2 (-1/2")
Arms - 14 (-1/2")

She marked down -5 1/2" total, but that's not correct because:
A. They measure "Waist" and "Abdomen". She only took one measurement and marked it for both. To me, waist is where my belly button is. Abdomen...uh...the rolls above and below my belly button?? Whatever...the correct measurement was for my waist.
B. She only measured one arm and one thigh. Assuming I lost equally on each arm and thigh, the number should be doubled.

So, if added correctly, total inches lost soo far is: 4 1/2"

I did add the increase in the waist, but you know, for a 1/2 inch, that could be lunch yesterday. And she also weighed me...2.5 up from the last time. But I don't go by that, because I use my home scale, at the same time of day, wearing the same thing, and I've been maintaining...not something to be proud of, but better than a gain!!

Anyway, it's nice to see the numbers, and that they moved...it's motivating. :D

Wow, Congrats way to Go! :jig:
You should be very proud of all your hard work! :)

I think as long as your measured in the same spot everytime where ever you measure is just fine. I measure my waist an inch above the belly button. I have a short torso, so It could be a different spot on you. I do take a gut measurment too at my belly button because that's were most of my belly fat is. My belly swells more when I'm holding in water, so I wouldn't stress about the 1/2 inch. Just eating a more salty meal can do that alone, it happens to me when ever I eat lunch meat. I don't always loose equally in my thighs. One is a 1/2 inch bigger than the other. I guess I'm lop-sided.

Lauren: Congratulations!! Well done - an aside, I do my own measurements. I try to always pull the tape measure firmly, but not tight. I figure this is a good way to strive for consistency. Also, I always measure the largest part of my bust, hips, arms and legs, I measure each one several times at various locations and take the largest #. Again trying for consistency. For my waist, however, I try for the smallest #. I realize this might not be what an "accurate" waist measurement should be, but if I try for the largest, I will be back to the hip or bust area. I do not want to be wondering each time if I measured the same spot, so the smallest works for me for consistency. Again, congrats. You must be so excited!

Another thing, I think that the gain in your waist measurement was probably random. However, I do know that your butt and legs generally show more of a result from cardio than your waist. I think the waist is more controlled by weight loss. Not sure about this, however. Keep up the good work!

Hi All,

Thanks for the comments!!

Bailey- I didn't expect much from my waistline, because the machine that supposedly works that area doesn't seem to do much for me. I think it's a range of motion thing...I think the shorter women probably get more out of it. It's like, you sit and with your arms locked, you pull up and down on the bars, like you're leaning forward to tie your shoes and back again...KWIM? I think because I'm tall and my arms are longer, I don't get the range of motion...whatever. I've been meaning to work with my abroller at home, but haven't managed to yet!!

Liz- You're doing good...at least the numbers are going down!! So what if it's not in leaps and bounds!!

Bad month for me between the vacation and the 4 lb gain it took me all month to get back on track. I took my measurements and everything was exactly the same. I tried to make it less but I knew I was pulling too tight and cheating so I stayed honest.

Nothing lost here...weight or inches. :(
I'll try harder for next month.

Oh well, at least it wasn't a gain. :D
