Default constant junk at work

Time once again for ANOTHER work party. Hahaha
Not only is there fudge up there on the counter, but there's a pizza party and people bringing in tons of junk. And once again, my problem isn't with wanting the stuff, it's with having to constantly say no thank you without feeling funny. If I could only find a way to get rid of that feeling-the one that everyone's watching to see what I'll do. Why eat the stuff if I don't even really want it? argh! Yes, I'll have a piece of pizza. That's enough.

I'm so paranoid!

Ohh ... I have this problem at work all the time. Workplaces are so unhealthy, even though most of them promote health! One strategy I've used is to show up late or leave early so I'm only there for half of the time. You could always say you have an upset stomach, or you already ate, or you had a big breakfast. Too bad you can't say, "Oh, doctor's orders ... can't eat that." LOL

I have no problem with eating sweets now and then, but the rate at which they supply it here, I'm surprised we're not a bunch of blimps walking around. I don't know how much people are attending this little birthday party, but from the amount of junk there apparently is, we better have a crowd. I am going to have a piece of the greasy pizza, instead of my usual lunch and snack, because that's just life. But do I also have to have cake and cookies and all the other junk? Gosh, why do I feel like I stick out like a sore thumb if I say no?
Are other people this paranoid????

well it must just be in the air today. I am tempted with pizza and a cookie cake. A coworkers birthday party. Like you all, i am going to have a piece or two of the pizza and that is it. I am not a big fan of cookie cake really...but it is akward to say no. People look at your like you are a selfish witch for not "joining in". Oh, i would rather have a lean cuisine and be done with it.

But the crazy thing is (and I swear it) that I'm not even tempted (I eat some form of ice cream like treat just about every day, so I don't feel deprived) and I really WOULD rather just have my usual pb and j sandwich or turkey and cheese or something. I like to save such treats as greasy pizza for the weekends. Can't be eating junk constantly; it's what made me fat in the first place!
It's the awkwardness of saying no thank you that I'm dreading.
And risking being the object of stupid comments.

The parent club brings in treats once a month to show their appreciation.

(I started to type the list, but by the time I got to the three kinds of cake, I realized it was sort of like food porn... it's that bad.)

I feel so loved, I think I may throw up.

I happen to be SORELY tempted by it all. I brought extra apples today, but they're mealy.

Let's all practice some sort of internet group hug!

I DEFFINATELY know what you're talking about. Every thursday at work we have meetings, and the presenters ALWAYS bring food. It's tough, because they come right inbetween breakfast and lunch... so you're like... we'll I COULD eat this banana I brought for a snack, or I could have one of those....

I usually try to resist temptation, I Just remind myself that I eat lunch at 11 and, if I'm still hungry I can eat some of what they brought after lunch (if there's any left - which there usually isn't so it works out nice )

Whenever they have food around.. and you start to get hungry, just whip out your snack and if they ask you if you want any of their food, just say "No thanks, I've already got something to eat and I don't want to waste it."

Also, while you eat your snack still talk and socialize with them... that way they don't look at you and think "well, I guess she thinks that she's too good to come and talk with us."

Ohh the joys of office food parties.

I always just came to the realization that I would feel better having eaten something healthy, and that the other people's satisfaction in seeing me eat pizza would be much less significant than the good feelings that I would have for myself because I stayed on my plan.

After all, I don't think the people at work go home and spend time thinking about how wonderful it was that I ate a piece of greasy pizza that day. On the other hand, I might feel that I had forced myself to eat something that really wasn't good for my body (and that I really didn't want), and I might have negative feelings at home that evening. I think it's a matter of what is really important to you.

My office is obsessed with ice cream. Sometime they make two Dairy Queen runs a week. And then even worse they buy 3 tubs of ice cream and leave it in the freezer. After 8 months of working here, I have finally gotten to the point I can say no most of the time. But I just want to shake them! Don't they know how bad for them it is!!! I mean we all need a treat every once in a while but ice cream all the time is awful!!!

I also know what you mean.
For me, it is not saying no that is the problem. It is the looks from the people who are offering the food... I can hear them thinking 'She didn't get that way from saying no'.
Even when I go out to eat, I feel like people are looking at me saying 'she really shouldn't be eating that... even if it is something healthy(er)'. As if bigger people should just STOP eating all together. grrrrr.

AND... I also belong to a student society.... which needless to say, involves alot of beer. So when we go out for a beer or something, i'll get one... maybe two... but compared to everyone else (who are drinking like 5 or 6) I feel weird about it sometimes. I don't want to drink all of my calories for the day in beer.... agh.

Actually, I'm fine w/eating a piece of pizza. I'm maintaining and want to be like most people (yeah right LOL) so I will have a piece of pizza w/no guilt or anything. It's all a matter of the overall picture. It's all the other cr@p that I don't want.
The cake w/the lard frosting (eeeew) and the junky junk food (not something good like a piece of good dark chocolate or fresh berries....)
It's not worth it to me. I'm just paranoid. Can ya tell? Everything went fine. I've recovered now.
