LA Weight Loss - Hi! Just getting started - nice to meet you all!

Hi everyone! It's very nice to meet you all!

I'm just getting started with my program (Gold) right now - in fact, today is my first day of doing the Take it Off juice and the low carb/low sugar/low fat/low everything two days *laughing* (It's not that bad, I'm exaggerating).

I've been dieting (unsuccessfully) for the last 11 years, since my oldest son was born. I never had a weight problem prior to having children (weighed 105 in high school), and bounced around between 130-170 lbs for 10 years. Then last year, inexplicably (okay, yes, I turned 30) I started putting on pounds and no matter what I did it didn't seem to help. Even my old standby, the low carb diet, wasn't working. I started running, got up to 10 miles a week (and hurt my knee, otherwise I'd still be running). Still nary a pound, my clothes still fit the same.

I went to the dr. to see whether maybe I had a thyroid issue - I had made so many lifestyle changes I just refused to believe that just because I turned 30 meant I had to be "overweight". I realized that I was only two chart squares away from obese (I'm 5'8"). I freaked. The doctor told me to "try weight watchers or something". I burst into tears. Here I was, working so hard, and all I was told was that I wasn't trying hard enough - that obviously the answer was something else. While weight watchers, I'm sure, is a worthy program, I have met many people on weight watchers and none of them seemed to really have made a life change.

I drove around town, alternating yelling (at the medical institution for being given the brush off) and crying. Okay yes, I was in my car with the windows up - I'm not that crazy :) I came around the corner and came to an LA Weight loss center. I decided to sign up.

So, that's my "entrance" story. Thanks for reading! I'm here to learn from all of you and be able to keep my motivation high.

Welcome =D
Just because you're 30 doesn't mean you're meant to be overweight.
Thats what LAWL is for. Its a lifestyle change.
Granted, its hard for the first few weeks..
But you'll get used to it and pretty soon you'll be a hot soccer mom!

Welcome Dragonfly! Join us in the Losers and Friends thread where we do most of our daily chatter.

Where in PA are you?

Hey thanks!

I'm in State College, PA - right in the center of the state.

I have to make another comment about the over 30 thing - that was something the doctor said! I was amazed! It was like - because I'm "just" overweight - well, that's to be expected. I'm sorry, don't we believe in being proactive in this country? Shouldn't we fix whatever is going wrong *before* it gets to the point where a person is grossly obese? What's this "yea, you're over 30, suck it up and it's okay to be fat" mentality???

Okay, sorry, a bit of a rant there, but it made me so angry I was almost speechless. I don't want to be 30+ and unable to run/play football with the boys etc. "just because I'm 30 and should expect to be fat".

Welcome Dagonfly

I myself am..gulp 30. My dr told me that if I EVER (yes mom/Dr. they are two different people but both stress EVER) :dizzy: want to have children, it will be better to all involved to lose weight.

This is my second time thru LAWL, the first was successful. I started packing on a couple pounds, and decided to go back in. I also lowered my goal 10 Lb from where I was before.

So the question is are you a Steelers fan or Eagles Fan?

Oh boy, tough question.

I live in a divided household. Two of my sons are Steelers fans, one is a colts fan (we just moved back from Indiana) and my husband is an Eagles fan.

I must say...uhh...I like Penn State football. *laughing* That's as far as I'll go. I have to stay impartial to keep the peace in the house!

Congrats on your initial loss with LAWL! I'm nervous, of course, about the end result - will I keep the weight off? Will I learn how to do it? I think if I can get the exercise thing going again (I'm down for the count with my knee) then maybe...just maybe... :)

Anyway - nice to meet you!

Welcome!! I a newbie to Lawl myself but I do love the program. I for the most part knew how to eat healthy but need the accountability. Lawl gives me the accountability that I want and need.

As for being over 30 and fat, I will 36 in a few weeks. I had sort of given up on being the being the hot chick anymore. My hot chick is coming out again!!

Hi Dragonfly and Miss Ryan (and everyone else too)...

I just signed up today and start TO tomorrow (though I kinda started tonight). I'm excited, but nervous too... I'm glad I found this place though. It'll help! :)

Hi meagain! It's nice to meet you! Plenty of great people around here! I enjoyed TO personally, but I think largely it was because I was so psyched about actually having people to help me lose weight instead of it being all on my own! It's a great motivating factor!:welcome:

This is a totally unrelated and silly question, but how do I make a custom avatar? Thanks!

All I did was go to user cp, then I think the link is avatar, and then I found a picture that I wanted to put up (this is a silly one of me) and browsed to it and then uploaded it.
