I love fall and that means to me some soups. Usually that means canned soup. However my favorite progresso soups are not on plan according to the center or the online dietican. :(
I didn't see too many soups listed in the recipe category.

Are you allowed any 'free' vegetables? If so, make a soup of them and enjoy! Puree some of the soup for a richer texture and if you are allowed to eat tofu, puree that as well to make 'cream' soups. Use a lot of spice to liven it up without too many extra calories.

Tree - as you know, you don't get "free" veggies, but there are a bunch of soup recipes in the LA cookbook. Also, check out our recipe thread.

Sorry to *intrude* into your area Bizlawchick...just trying to be supportive!
I guess with a little creativity one could certainly apply my suggestions to fit any diet plan (even one that "as you know" and I now know too, is without 'free' vegetables) and by looking at the one soup recipe I easily found in the LAWL section, it would be possible to make an all vegetable soup that would count as only vegetable exchanges when using non-starchy vegetables and spices only.

Yogini - Didn't mean for it to come out like that. Sorry to offend.
The LAWL program is kinda strange sometimes. There are no "free" veggies, and then they don't want you "splitting" them either. Like, no 1/2v for some onion, and 1/2 veggie for some tomato. However, if you use their cookbook, there are some recipes that "split" the veggies.

No worries! Internet communication and forums in particular can be strange sometimes, with people responding to a post (but not addressing the person who posted), or reposting the *exact same* thing that someone else said earlier etc.
I am really ignorant about the speciics of the LAWL program though, so I didn't mean what I said about 'your' area in a sarcastic sense (it isn't my area at all but I am interested in how it works and have read a lot of the posts in this forum).

Tree - If you'll give me a list of your favorite Progresso soups and I'll see if I can find some recipes that are LAWL friendly. :D

Has anyone got an explanation of why things can't be split? It sounds senseless to me. How you suppose to have a salad with just 1 veggie?Or if you use 2, then a meal doesn't get one, what's the sense of it??

Hereicome - No explanation. Just what COD said. I know - weird. I would do what feels comfy to you. If your COD says something, but it doesn't slow your weight loss, just write in one of the veggies you are really putting in your salad.

That is weird. Mine has never said anything about veggies and I mix mine all the time--salads, omelets, mushroom/onions --then again--I'm not losing!

I know I got "counseled" when I did it, so now I just don't bother. If I do "mix", I just list the one or two on my diary. Again... I didn't get fat eating vegetables!

I have split veggies since I've been doing this - but Cassi pointed out that in the LA Cookbook, when they use a variety of veggies - they count them individually. For instance - if I use 1 T of sweet peppers and 1 T of onions in an omelet - I used to count them as 1/2V, but in the cookbook, they would be counted as 2V, but the portion is not limited because of it.
DH's counselor said to list them for instance, a salad is 3c lettuce 1V, 1/2c green peppers 1V and 1/2c Cauliflower 1V. I'm still getting 2 veggie portions, but I'm letting them know what all the veggies were. That's what they do in the cookbook and his counselor approves of it as well.
Did I just muddy up the waters or did I help?!? :dizzy:

Cassi--I'm with you--I didn't get fat eating veggies either--heck I don't even like them! Going over in them is not my biggest concern.

Pearl - That sounds yummy! I'm guessing 1P, 1S, 1 1/2V???
Anyhoo... I will have to make that for DH. (That is once we stop hitting 90 here every day!)

I don't know how many servings this makes, but it was in hungry-girl last week... I think it's a WW recipe....
0 Point Garden Vegetable Soup
Ingredients:
2/3 cup sliced carrots
1/2 cup diced onions
2 garlic cloves, minced
3 cups fat-free broth (beef, chicken, or vegetable)
1 1/2 cups diced green cabbage
1/2 cup green beans
1 tbsp. tomato paste
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/4 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup diced zucchini
Directions:
In a large saucepan sprayed with nonstick cooking spray, saute carrots, onions and garlic over low heat for about 5 minutes. Add broth, cabbage, green beans, tomato paste, basil, oregano and salt, and bring to a boil. Lower the heat, cover, and simmer for around 15 minutes or until beans are tender. Lastly, stir in the zucchini and continue to heat soup for 3-4 minutes. Enjoy!!

WW has another "free" soup that my mom makes a lot. No clue how to count for LAWL but I know we will have it this winter.
1 can chicken broth
1 can FF refried beans
1 can Rotel green chiles and tomato
I think as long as you use low sodium it shouldn't be too bad. Pre-LAWL we liked to add ground beef and make it a heartier soup--maybe we can try it with turkey.
