Question understanding grams/cups

Thanks! I'm sure that I will...I am in the process of reading my material and I do have a question that I am sure someone here can answer....under vegetables they state 1/2 a cup or 1 cup unless otherwise listed. For example: 88g of broccoli/78g cooked broccoli...all vegetables are listed as something other than 1 cup or 1/2 cup so do I ever eat 1/2 cup or 1 cup...or do I just always measure in grams? Hope you understand what I am trying to say here...thanks for listening...

I only measure in cups (well, I used to--now I just eyeball but don't recommend it just yet). 1 cup raw vs. half cup of cooked. You'll get used to it and it will be second nature. I figure if I am over in veggies it's not the end of the world!

With most veggies-1 c raw or 1/2 c cooked. The major exception is tomatoes I think-1small or 4 cherry. And carrots- 6 baby, 1/2 carrot.

Honestly-I never really measure my veggies-I probably go over mayb1 1/2 -2 servings every day. It's really neglible. Although-since they finally increased the lettuce to 3 cups per serving-I'm probably right on track.

from another Canuck! My COD told me that it was a cup of raw vegetables or 1/2 cup of cooked unless otherwise indicated.

Thanks to all...still confused though...what would 88g or the 78g of broccoli be equal to in cups/1/2 cups...as all vegetables have grams listed by them...none are in cups or 1/2 servings...
Thanks for the quick responses...

You may have a brand new book that is with metric, because if your book says 88g. raw or 78 gr. cooked that doesn't equal 1 c. raw or 1/2 c. cooked. I got out my new digital scale and put 1/2 c. measuring cup on and used baby carrots. 88 g. was probably close to 3/4 c. where the 78 g. was a heaping 1/2 c.

Like everybody else said, veggies are so low in calories, that if you are going to go over on anything, veggies are the best.

Hope that helps and doesn't just confuse you more.

Hi PureCanadian - I just joined too (actually re-started after a 1yr layoff). I am also reading all of my new info and getting used to the program again. I will say that if you follow it,it does work, and it is something that you can get used to doing so that it becomes your new lifestyle. Good luck to us all!

Well, best of luck to BOTH of you!
PureCanadian - don't know if your book has the updates in it already or if you got them separately but some other exceptions on veggies 1/2 and 1cup are:
Cabbage - 1 cup cooked 2 cups raw
Carrot, medium - 1 each
Celery - 3 ribs
Cucumber - 1/2
Lettuce -all types fresh, 3 cups
Tomato sauce or marinara - 1/4 c
Spinach - 1 cup cooked, 2 cups raw
NO Salt added tomato puree - 1/4 cup.

Hope that helps!
Blessings,

Welcome! Where are you in Canada? I am in Vancouver

I always measured in grams except for the things that says cups. When I first stared one of the counselors told me that one serving of broccoli was 1/2 cup.. so I did that .. it was soooooo little.. I was so hungry after dinner.. So I measured out my veggies and it was soooo much more! I am no longer hungry after dinner.

Hi Candiflip....I'm from Nova Scotia...I see you joined in August...do you like the diet so far? I'm hoping that this diet will do the trick and it seems pretty do-able...
