Are we ready for this week's challenge? :carrot:

Challenge starts each Monday and ends on Sunday. And ANYONE is welcome to join.

Each week you choose something health-relatedthat you really have a hard time doing, and you do it for the week. Say for instance, you really want to cut down on sugar and you know you can do that for at least a few days a week. You can choose how many days such as 3 or 4, up to all 7 ....(but no less than 3, please) and then commit yourself to it.

AND....it doesn't have to be all in a row, either! You may decide to not eat sugar for 4 days. So on Monday you have no sugar, but on Tuesday you can have some, on Wednesday none, then Thurdsday...(you get the idea) Just try to complete the amount of days you committed yourself to.

You may choose limiting calories, getting in more exercise, drinking more water, eating less processed foods, taking a vitamin, journaling, counting carbs... whatever your need is - go for it! The choices are limitless!

So what do you think? Think we can commit to doing this? Let's give it a try!

I was off the feed yesterday at DH's party. Back on track ASAP, and my challenge for this week is going to be to make sure I get veggies and fruit. I seem to get lax on that as the weeks go on. I will continue to exercise at least 4 days a week too. (extra exercise)

I'm going to try to get in 80 ounces of water. This is harder for me than watching my calories. I guess I can't mentally find drinking lots of water as important as watching what I eat. I will try very, very hard to drink 80 oz for the next 6 days.

Is it too late to change my mind? Since there are still 6 days left, I want to change my challenge to taking a vitamin daily. I'm not in a good place at all with food, and don't want to go there. I keep forgetting my vitamin, and my nails are splitting, I have little energy even when I'm eating right, and feel like that a vitamin would help.

I'm working on the food again this week-aiming for 5 days OP. Did great yesterday but today, not so good. I had a darn donut...but...if I stay OP the rest of the day I should be fine and that donut won't hurt me.

I did get my walk at the park in and went to IF. Man I was dragging...hated missing three days of exercise. Back on track with it though.

Jane: I have a question for you. I have never been able to grow nails. We only have 5 acres, but between hauling logs, clearing brush, weeding, putting up fences, I can't keep nails. They split or fold. Is there a particular vitamin I can take? I take a multi-vitamin, Vit D & Calcium. Apparently, these aren't the right ones, or I'm not getting enough of a particular one. Do you have any input?

Cristi: We both posted at the same time. You know if I was going to cheat I'd eat a scrumpious donut and not a darn donut.LOL. I'm glad you got your workout in. Just think how beautiful those legs are going to be when you can do the same and not hurt!

My goal is to stay OP this weekend. Considering I will be having a 3-day weekend, this is a challenge to me, especially while I'm at the horse show I'm doing on Sunday. :crossed:

It HAS to be exercise for me. I just need to burn some calories.

Challenge 4 days of excercise
(2 days down)

At least one serving of veggies or fruit everyday.
had broccli with dinner monday, grapes and a salad yesterday.

Norma, I think any good multi-vitamin would benefit your nails. Add some protien to your diet, and that will help, too. Some say dairy protein, but others say any type of protein is ok.

Okay, I won't count yesterday since I ate the donut and, I ate too much for dinner. That's what happens when I don't get my 4:00 snack, lol. So today is day 2 and so far so good.

Norma...not meaning to butt in but...I read years ago that gelatin is good for the nails. Not sure how you would take it, or fix it as I've not ever bought any but you can find it in the baking aisle at the grocery store. Maybe google it and see what people say :dunno:

Had another walk tonight...and did eat fruit (white peaches are the BEST) and veggies (carrots, celery, onions,) cooked in with a beef roast. I had one small piece of beef and half of a small potato. The beef was the hardest since I love red meat.
I am not completely back on track, but slowly getting there. Like Marti...I am hoping for results by Christmas. :)

Cristina: Thanks for the gelatin comment. I have gelatin and it's very versatile. I use it in puddings when I want to cut down on cream and eggs to get the pudding to set up and it's very low calorie. You can also make
gelatin out of your favorite beverages.
I love your signature. That is cool. I am pretty lame when it comes to inserting fancy stuff on my signature or ticker.

Jane:I have cut my dairy way down due to dieting, so I need to check how I can put some back into my diet and still watch the calories.

Obs: You sound like a woman on a mission. Good Job!

Marti: Good luck with the exercise. I also wanted to let you know that I have been educated and I should have noted that you are a scrapbooking guru. I'm a newbie on both fronts. I hate to admit it but I'll be learning a thing or three just by seeing the pages that arrive. I'm so excited.

Ah, I'm getting confused...okay, Mon-op, Tues-x, Wed-op, Thurs-so far, so good. So, it's two days and today will be three. Didn't do any exercise today...had a busy schedule.

Norma...YW. My signature isn't anything fancy...just like to do different colors once in a while. For a while I was changing it once a week I swear, or so it seemed, lol.

Sue...I've never seen white peaches, didn't even know there was such a thing. WTG on eating good and getting some exercise.

How is everyone else doing? Hope you are having a good day!

Hi Guys: I'm still having trouble with the water. I dolled it up today and put it in a goblet with a twist of lemon. I got 4 glasses down, but I petered out later in the day. Tiffany told me about the association of water and headaches. I do have allot of headaches, so I'm going to make a concerted effort to do better. I decided to make me a chart with ten squares with Sun - Sat listed. I am going to put it on the frig and each time I get 8 oz down I get a happy face. I know, it sounds childish but it's like a little reward system in my old school days. If it helps, great. It will remind me everytime I go into the kitchen.

Yikes, I can barely remember to take a vitamin, but have done it by keeping them on the table next to my chair in the living room. I also have been doing my exercises, but just didn't list it as a challenge due to my foot problem. So I do as much as I can, and am happy with that.

Day 3 down and today is day 4 and doing good so far. I did get in some exercise yesterday after all...mowed the front and back yard. Today went for my morning 1.5 mile walk and then workout at IF and...took Ernie to the park by the house for his walk.

NORMA...I was always fighting with the water. I have never cared for water period. I think 4 glasses is better than nothing at all. I used to try to force myself to drink a lot which made me hate it even more and not want to. So, I figured drinking 4 16.9 oz bottles a day is good for me and anything more is a bonus. And that is what I aim for every day...it actually has worked because I have been drinking my water. So 4 glasses is a good start. Maybe if you start with the four and work your way up by adding another glass each week.

WTG everyone for doing an awesome job with your challenge! Keep up the good work! :carrot: :carrot:

Another day down..and I did good. I rode the bike for 20 minutes this morning and did 15 minutes of WATP. Tonight I walked 2+ miles. I was able to eat as I should all day too...so I am feeling very full of myself tonight. :)

Yay!!!!!: My little kindergarten water chart with little gold stars worked. I got 10 stars today! I was actually motivated to finish the row with stars. It's heck being old. We are so easily entertained! LOL. Anyway I got my 80 oz in and I'm ready for tomorrow. I think I'll use silver stars!teehee

Cristina:4 16.9 oz botter is over 8 8oz glasses, so you are doing a super job!

I honestly felt that I was a failure at these challenges, because it was like breaking my word. I'm real happy with my accomplishment. I don't know if it was the extra water or what but I finally got off 262.5 which I lingered at all week. I weighed 260 today! Now if I can just see the 250's!

You are all doing super at your challenges. Have a great weekend.

I don't think your stars are kindergarten-ish...I did that once but used smiley faces. Some magazine kept sending stuff for me to subscribe and would enclose a page of smiley faces, so I put them to good use, lol!

Okay so today is day 5 for me and so far so good! I am keeping my fingers :crossed: for a loss this week because I have done a good job eating and especially with the exercise...been busting my chops! I did go to IF today also. Didn't do a walk but at least got in a good work out there. I'm trying not to over do it. Can you actually do too much exercise? I suppose you can...:dunno: Anyway, yesterday was an OP day so that is 4 down and today to go!

Still feeling good. I ate as I should today. Walked 2+ miles tonight. This morning DH and I went to get the rest of his lumber...two more pick-up loads...and I helped load and un-load both again. It made me feel good that last Sat. and this I did not huff and puff while doing manual labor as I have in the past.
Even if the scales don't move on Mon. I know I am doing well by the way some clothes fit. (baggy butt on slacks...lol) AND..I did weigh mid-week and had lost a pound, so 1 pound to go to get below the 170's. Woohoo.
You are all doing SUPER! Let's all say YAY for us!

I wanted something sweet and cold earlier so I mixed frozen yogurt and a little lowfat chocolate milk...was yummy and it satisfied my crave!

Cristina:Thanks for the harrahs. I was able to get another 10 stars today. The silly little chart is actually working. How funny.
To explain my emotional stress with my scale, I have to tell you a story. I stepped on the scale today and I saw 258 and I immediately screamed for my husband to come running and see. I knew if I got off, I wasn't sure that my evil scale would read the same. He came running, but by the time he arrived, the digital readout had turned off. I said, just a minute and I immediately stepped back onto the scale. The scale said 261. I got so mad I kicked it! The demon seed that lives in my scale did it to me again! I immediately welled up with tears and said, "See, this scale is evil". I got back on again and it read 260. My sweety didn't know how to help but said, "Didn't you order a new one?" I said yes, that it would be arriving Tues. He said, "Why are you letting that thing dictate how you feel?" I couldn't give him an intelligent answer. I knew this dieting was going to be hard. I never envisioned having the scale becoming an issue to deal with. At this point, I have no idea what I weigh and now the thought of being quite a bit heavier on the new doctors scale has really gotten me worried. I don't know if I can lose the same pounds all over again. This has really got me stressed.
I'm sorry for venting here, it just poured out.

Hi, Challenge is doine for the week. Will post new one with the new thread is up.

HarkeyValley-I bought a digital scale around last Xmas (it was the only I could find that read over 350), and i dutifully got on it every week and it was happy to seem some weight loss. Then one day I got on and really didn't see the number so I got back on and it said I had gained more and then I got on and it said I had lost some :dizzy:

So then I tried moving it, recalibrating it and I still tried to use it and was an emotinal wreck everytime I went to use it. Then finally I said it was going to be me or the scale...and I wasn't leaving. Now I use the scale at my gym (which I don't got to anymore except to use the scale, lol) which is like a Drs Scale.

Anyway, use the thing for a paper weight or door stop, but don't let it get to you.

Today was rough...For some reason it was one of those days when I wanted to eat all day. Ugh!
I didn't over do too much, just tried to stick to fruit and had a 100 calorie snack pack. I did have a little bit of candy corn with some dry roasted peanuts. Just needed sweet and salty.
I already doubted I would see a loss tomorrow...oh well.
I did walk tonight over 2 miles.

Let's start again tomorrow!
