The Dr says that the surgery went "FANTASTIC" and he is very confident that this procedure was done at the right time and will get us on the "upswing". Ok so enough positive thinking, here's some reality, Shar feels like she has been run over with a MAC truck. The revision went well, and all the staples appeared to be holding well. He placed a drain as a precaution in the same neighborhood as the last one. He placed a feeding tube for nutritional purposes, she kept her hicman and due to the expected pain, he confinced her to let them put an epidural in. She wasn't big on the idea, but after seeing her last night, i don't want to imagine how she would be without it. He said that her gall bladder was inflamed and there was a 20-25% chance that it would fail in the near future, since his goal is to never have to cut into her again for any reason, he took the gall bladder out. Sounds like a precautionary step and if it prevents another surgery, be as precautionary as you want. He put her in CCU for the night due to the late hour, procedure took just under 4 hours, and wanted her monitored due to unconventional pain control. CCU can push alot better drugs than the normal surgical floor. I came home to situate the dogs, catch a nap and get a shower. His goal for today is to have her pain under control enough to get her upstairs and lets all pray we have a good week and she is home by the weekend. He will take it very slow with her, no swallows for a minimum of 2 weeks, unless he suspects problems and lets hope that # 11 was the magic number.

Take care and THANK YOU!

oh my. oh dear. so much stress here! but i gotta tell you - for the first time, i'm getting the sense that the doc is actually in control of what's happening, instead of taking a 'let's try this and see' approach.

please give darlin Shar some gentle hugs from us all. prayers, warm wishes, happy thoughts, healing vibes all going her way!

Oh you sound so relieved. I'm relieved to hear it went so well too! Up here, they always take the gall bladder anyway and if there was inflammation he for sure made the right choice.

Well, I understand the MAC truck thing. Its a whole different level of pain when the make that large cut. Makes me cringe remembering... but its something she can manage and God willing she only has to do this once.

Give her a hug for me and one for yourself too.

What a wonderful way to start my morning!

Thanks for the update, I know many of us were thinking about both of you today and bending God's ear some. My surgeon said he was taking out the gall bladder, then after surgery he told me he left it in, because it was one of the healthiest ones he's seen and didn't see any need to remove it.

Hugs to you both & let Shar know we are thinking of her still.
