I remember one year I was able to run the whole mile for the Presidential Fitness Challenge without any walking breaks. I made it in about 8 min 30 sec! That is my one and only successful memory involving running, and that was about 10 years ago. I don’t run because I hate it, I much prefer to get my cardio by swimming, rollerblading, elliptical machine, spinning, walking/hiking, pretty much anything other than running.
Good luck with your running. I think it’s most important to strive to be the best you can be and to compete with yourself, I wouldn’t worry too terribly much about averages of other runners. As long as you’re progressing, you’re winning.
